A Lovely Morning

Oh, love! I love love.  Head over to Nicole’s blog to wish her and Isaac a very Happy Engagement!  He surprised her by proposing this morning.  They stopped by my house afterwards to show off the ring.  I took a few ‘just engaged’ shots and posed them like Wills and Kate.  Posh and fabulous!   [...]

Y’all are giving me such good advice and support about swimming in the comments section of this post - I have to find a way to thank you for being awesome readers! :)   How about this sweet 10-cup food processor? Oh yea.   You can use this food processor to make hummus and nut [...]

Realization

Pools have walls. Lakes do not. On Tuesday and Thursdays, my pool changes the layout of the lanes so you can swim 50 meter lengths instead of 25 yard length.   That means that today, I had to swim more than double the normal distance between walls.  I’ve never swam in a pool that long before!  [...]

Lovable and Long

When the going gets tough, hug a wiener dog.   (I have that print in my bathroom and it makes me so happy every single day!)   Dachshunds really do make everything better. Mutts are awesome, too – of course! :)  Actually, all rescue pups rule. But there’s something special about a long dog. Did [...]

Slam Dunk

Something that I cannot figure out: my legs have been so sore lately!  And yet I’ve been doing almost zero lower-body cardio (just swimming).    I can’t imagine how swimming would make my thighs sore because I try really hard not to kick too much.  Another triathlete once told me to use your upper body [...]

Trivia Tuesday

I ended up having a perfect afternoon – the morning’s disaster at the DMV is long forgotten. :) I think it’s the sunny weather.  It’s hard to be annoyed in the spring, isn’t it?   I worked hard all afternoon, plowing through work on the book.  At some point, I made this lovely smoothie: In [...]

Braid and Breathe

DMV was a nightmare this morning.  Two hours of my life that I’ll never get back.  I’m not sure if this is surprising factoid or you’d expect it, but I’m actually really disorganized with paperwork.  Anytime I have to find something important, it becomes a hour-long search of insanity.    We got to the front [...]

ANDI Scores

Morning!  Hope all is well with you.  Let’s dive right in, shall we? Last night, a reader named Lili sent me a link to the ANDI score system.  This concept, which is a lot like NuVal, is a pretty cool way to look at food.    ANDI stands for “Aggregate Nutrient Density Index," which ranks [...]

Spontaneous Monday Out

The Husband and I were running errands, usual Monday stuff, when he turned to me and said, “How about we get an adult beverage at an outside bar we’ve never been to?”   It. was. awesome.  Made my Monday that much better.  We talked a lot about our upcoming vacation (we’re going somewhere tropical and [...]

Weekly Roundup

One way I maintain healthy habits with exercise is that I choose to take a macro view of my workouts.  What does this mean?  This means that instead of thinking, “Dammit, I didn’t workout today… Now I feel guilty for skipping the gym…,” I can look at the entire week as a whole and say, [...]

Outside All Day

Told you I’d be making the Mmm Sauce again tonight! :) But first…   DadHTP, the Husband, and I spent the day at the US National Whitewater Center, which is a outdoor recreation and athletic training facility for whitewater rafting, kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, mountain biking and hiking. All the rapids are man-made so it’s [...]

Call for Book Reviews

Something fun:  I’m looking for YOUR one-paragraph book reviews of popular sport/endurance/healthy eating books, like Born to Run, Ultramarathon Man, Fast Food Nation, Age is Just a Number, It’s Not About The Bike, What I Talk About When I Talk About Running, and more. I want to compile all your reviews in a big post [...]

Just Do It

You know when you get all dressed up for your workout, and then you somehow get distracted?  And your motivation starts to tank?  And you just think, “Hmm, maybe I will skip my workout and just lay in the grass bed instead.” That totally happened to me this afternoon!  I worked until 2:15 and then [...]
