Outside All Day

in All Posts

Told you I’d be making the Mmm Sauce again tonight! 🙂

IMG_2779

But first…

DadHTP, the Husband, and I spent the day at the US National Whitewater Center, which is a outdoor recreation and athletic training facility for whitewater rafting, kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, mountain biking and hiking.

IMG_2762

All the rapids are man-made so it’s like being in a really rough, really crazy pool!

IMG_2765

However, we weren’t there to whitewater raft – we ended up kayaking in the (naturally made) river for about an hour and a half.  It was so peaceful and lovely!  We spotted lots of turtles.  My shoulders are aching, though!  Kayaking is certainly a workout.

Pre-kayak Larabar… I’ve never had this flavor before, but it was good.

IMG_2760

Post-kayak lunch (I just wrote “launch”) was a spinach and goat cheese salad from a takeout place.  This was SO huge.  It took me 20 minutes to eat.  Gotta love those veggies.

IMG_2771

The Husband has been getting back into golf, so I accompanied him to a golf club and watching him putt and chip for a while.  I also read Age is Just a Number, which continues to be very motivating.

It’s so lovely out in Charlotte right now.  I hope it’s Spring wherever you are, too!

I drank a coffee and ate half a big Starbucks chocolate chip cookie while I watched.

And as mentioned, dinner featured Mmm Sauce!

IMG_2778

Whole wheat wrap with thin baked slices of tofu and spinach and Mmm Sauce, plus roasted potatoes and Brussel sprouts (with more Mmm Sauce).

You can never have too much Mmm sauce.  Never.

A fun day, indeed!  I don’t want the weekend to be over… 🙁

I don’t want the weekend to be over, either 🙁

  • Stacy @ Every Little Thing April 17, 2011, 8:58 pm

White water rafting is super fun! I didn’t even know they made man-made “practice areas” like that, it’s pretty neat.

Your salad looks like the kind I usually get from Whole Foods haha

    • DadHTP April 18, 2011, 11:17 am

Ths is the National Olympic Training Center – go online – it’s epic.

  • Kacy April 17, 2011, 9:01 pm

I wanted to have brussels sprouts with my dinner tonight also, but I was too lazy. That’s pretty sad.
The weather has been really Spring like here as well. I’m loving it!

  • Lisa (bakebikeblog) April 17, 2011, 9:05 pm

oooh those rapids , man made or not, look like lots of fun!

  • Holly @ The Runny Egg April 17, 2011, 9:08 pm

  • Abby April 17, 2011, 9:09 pm

The whitewater center looks like so much fun! 🙂

  • Lauren April 17, 2011, 9:10 pm

Okay, you’ve convinced me. I need to try the MMM sauce.

  • Natalie S. April 17, 2011, 9:13 pm

I love kayaking! Can’t wait to try this Mmmm sauce, especially after seeing it on so many blogs!

  • Kate@fittingintothewindycity.com April 17, 2011, 9:18 pm

Hanging out at the driving range with my husband is one of my favorite warm weather activities! I’ll leave the golfing to him but it’s fun to tag along!

  • Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat April 17, 2011, 9:18 pm

What a fun day!!! I haven’t tried the Mmm sauce yet but it’s bookmarked and I can’t wait to make some!

  • Lisa Fine [lisasfoods] April 17, 2011, 9:20 pm

Sounds like a great spring day!

One of my favorites parts of spring [and summer] is going in a kayak or canoe on the lake by our house to spend an hour or two exploring. We spotted a beaver the last time we went – such a great creature to see.

  • Lindsay April 17, 2011, 9:21 pm

I really need to borrow my parents kayaks and go out one of these days! It sounds like soo much fun! I also have a feeling that Mmmm sauce will be turning up on my blog one of these days here soon!

  • Bec April 17, 2011, 9:24 pm

Sounds like such a fun day! But word of advice dont sit on the ground at a golf course… they have to use a ridiculously crazy amount of really intense chemicals to keep weeds away and you dont want to have too much skin contact with the grass. The greens manager at my club always gives me trouble for sitting on it or walking in my bare feet after a round or when coaching.

  • Sarah @ The Strength of Faith April 17, 2011, 9:26 pm

My aunt lives in Ormond Beach, FL (just north of Daytona) and she and I went kayaking once when I was visiting her. It was so peaceful … until we spotted a gator. I have never paddled so fast in my entire life.

  • chelsey @ clean eating chelsey April 17, 2011, 9:30 pm

I made MMM sauce on THursday and it lasted one day. It is so mmmm’ing good.

  • kate April 17, 2011, 9:36 pm

Can’t wait to make that mmm sauce! It sounds awesome 🙂

  • Natalia - a side of simple April 17, 2011, 9:42 pm

I’ve always wanted to go kayaking! Glad you got in some quality HTPC + HTPD time.

And…I think I really need to make this mmmm sauce. My life just might depend on it 😉

  • Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday April 17, 2011, 9:45 pm

If you want some amazing white water rafting you have to go to the Ottawa river in Quebec. Best rafting I’ve ever done, hands down.
I want to try white water kayaking next time.

  • Laura April 17, 2011, 9:51 pm

Your wraps always look so good! I have been wanting to try sweet potato and bean enchilladas. They look really good!

  • Megan April 17, 2011, 9:55 pm

Ooooh, that yumm sauce reminds me of my fave restaurant in St. Augustine, FL (I went to Flagler College) – Flavors. It’s their house sauce and I (living in Sarasota) just went a few days ago to the east coast and HAD to stop @ Flavors (ate their twice in less than 24 hours) for some food & to buy some house sauce. I think this weekend my boyfriend’s going to try to recreate it. I want to try this too!! Thanks for this sauce!

  • Paige @Running Around Normal April 17, 2011, 9:58 pm

That Mmmm sauce sounds good! this reci”pea” must have slipped by me!
Sounds like a fun outside day 🙂

  • Ashley @ Feeding Ashley April 17, 2011, 10:24 pm

Sounds like a great day. I would love to go kayaking! The salad looks all kinds of good too.

  • Molly @ RDexposed April 17, 2011, 10:51 pm

I definitely want to golf with you! Starbucks and cookies is what golf has been missing for years.

  • Mama Pea April 17, 2011, 11:05 pm

Remember how I was going to make over that Creamy Balsamic dressing you love to make it vegan? Well, scratch that. You’ve got Mmmm sauce now 😉

  • Carol April 17, 2011, 11:09 pm

What is that green stuff in your photos?! It has been snowing (light, thick, fluffy, sleety snow) non-stop since Friday night – okay, really it feels like since November – but I did manage to crawl myself out of bed and run a Half this morning. Worst conditions ever but I finished.
I’m so jealous of your spring.

  • Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) April 17, 2011, 11:49 pm

Okay, I am totally making that sauce!!!! I just wish dried cilantro wasn’t like $12 dollars a jar! But, I guess it will be worth it – I ADORE cilantro.

  • Kate (What Kate is Cooking) April 18, 2011, 12:11 am

I am loving the spring weather! Even though it’s supposed to rain over the weekend- there goes my plans to have Easter brunch outside!

  • khushboo April 18, 2011, 12:31 am

I just tried that flavor of larabar for the 1st time on Saturday and loved it!- so peanut buttery :)! Sounds like a great Sunday, weekends always fly by too fast! So glad it’s only a 4-day week this week!

  • Chad April 18, 2011, 12:50 am

Beautiful – is Larabar your favorite bar? I’m curious.

  • Kiran @ KiranTarun.com April 18, 2011, 1:03 am

What a fun fill day! The weather is certainly great over there. It’s already Summer here in Florida! Yikes!

  • Dominique April 18, 2011, 1:30 am

This morning I woke up to snow! But it melted pretty quickly but later freezing rain came along. It was pretty crazy windy and I had to be outside momentarily so that definitely was not fun. I am totally jealous of your spring weather; just a few days ago I was in the city with a skirt and tights.

Kayaking looks really cool but I’m really afraid of open water. I almost drowned in a pool when I was young and never really got over it. I’m really curious about this sauce and must go check it out!

  • Jumanah @ Healthy Living in the Middle East April 18, 2011, 5:12 am

I’m very sad the weekend is over!

Looks like a great day! Your salad with goat cheese looks so good! Now that its warm out, I cant get enough salads!

  • Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope April 18, 2011, 6:19 am

I’d LOVE to go kayaking once the weather turns nice again! Such a great way to get outside and be active. It’s fun to switch things up now and then! 🙂

  • Hats @ See How She Runs April 18, 2011, 6:31 am

Looks like you had a great weekend. I visited some friends in London and the weather was superb. I hope the good weather stays! I’ve never been kayaking but I went canoeing in France a couple of years ago. Not sure I’d want to do the same in cold English waters, but it was very nice in France.

    • DadHTP April 18, 2011, 11:20 am

hahaha – you’re boating, not swimming! Dress warmly and don’t fall out!

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin April 18, 2011, 8:26 am

That outdoor rec centre looks amazing! I love kayaking but it always kills my back and shoulders the next day! I hope you’re not feeling too sore today. 😉

  • Beth @ 990 Square April 18, 2011, 8:53 am

I love kayaking! We often kayak at our beach house in Delaware. I hope you’re okay after all of those bad storms last night.

  • Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me April 18, 2011, 9:09 am

omg I love kayaking! It’s so much fun and a great upper body workout!

  • Rekha k April 18, 2011, 9:49 am

Sounds like a great day…..Your wraps always look so good!

  • Clarissa April 18, 2011, 10:38 am

I accompany Leo to his golf club a lot just to watch! I am not very patient when it comes to learning a new skill such as golf…so I end up video taping him on my camera so he can do what he’s doing wrong/right! Helpful girlfriend to the rescueeee

  • betty@runbetty April 18, 2011, 10:39 am

Love the shoes you are wearing (brown sandals) in this post – so cute and summer-y!

  • Kristen April 18, 2011, 10:54 am

I love spring and summer! I love being outside and being close to the water~ sounds like a great day!

  • Miranda @ Working Mom Works Out April 18, 2011, 11:23 am

The sauce looks delicious. I will definitely try 🙂

  • Amber K April 18, 2011, 12:07 pm

How fun! I have seriously gotta make some Mmm sauce. It’s still freezing and rainy for me, but I can’t wait for some warmer weather.

  • Lisa April 18, 2011, 12:23 pm

I was outside all weekend too. It was gorgeous in Oregon and I took advantage of it!

  • Lacey @ Lake Life April 18, 2011, 7:41 pm
