Spontaneous Monday Out

in All Posts

The Husband and I were running errands, usual Monday stuff, when he turned to me and said, “How about we get an adult beverage at an outside bar we’ve never been to?”

It. was. awesome.  Made my Monday that much better.  We talked a lot about our upcoming vacation (we’re going somewhere tropical and warm… Oh, yeah!).

We went to a place called Kennedy’s and took advantage of the $3 for any pint special.  I got a Fat Tire.  Very good.

IMG_2802

We also played one-on-one trivia (after Googling “easy trivia questions”).   It was neck and neck, but I think the Husband pulled ahead with his insane sports knowledge.

Was tempted by the menu, but we came home for dinner.  No need to buy a $7 veggie burger when I can make THIS:

This is a combination of steamed kale (via this method), chopped carrots, chickpeas, and groats.  Groats “are the hulled grains of various cereals, such as oats, wheat, barley or buckwheat.  Groats are whole grains that include the cereal germ and fiber-rich bran portion of the grain as well as the endosperm (which is the usual product of milling).”  Thank you, Wikipedia.

There’s also a sauce on there that is similar to Mmm Sauce but I loaded this version up with parsley so it was bright green.  I thought it was great, but I love parsley flavors.

I loved the nutty flavor of the groats – they would also be good mixed in oatmeal.

Oh, and…

Public Service Announcement from Katie (aka Sweet Tater) + her boyfriend Stew

odelay

Are you a fan of cats? Ever feel like you just can’t get ENOUGH cats? Wish you could have a cat RIGHT NOW?

odie

Katie continues, “Have I got a deal for you…  Odelay (Ralphie’s baby, Weasel’s sister, and an heiress to the Caturday throne) is in desperate need of a home ASAP. She’s in  Greenville, South Carolina.  We are in panic mode trying to find a home. Stew’s parents will no longer keep her and I just cannot have three cats at the age of 25.  Any takers?  She is just under three years old (don’t be fooled by the old baby pics). I will deliver her from Greensville to the Charlotte area if necessary. ”  Contact Katie if you’re interested!

  • Kara April 18, 2011, 9:20 pm

I would totally get a cat, but my husband said that’s grounds for divorce, so I’ll have to pass. 🙁

  • Maryea {Happy Healthy Mama} April 18, 2011, 9:25 pm

  • Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat April 18, 2011, 9:25 pm

I like the way the husband thinks!! Your groats mix looks delicious. I recently discovered I like them too, but made them more like oats with apples and cinnamon mixed in (http://bit.ly/fcafKK) – so good!! Now you’ve got me excited to try them in a savoury dish!

  • Angela (Oh She Glows) April 18, 2011, 9:31 pm

Your Monday seems way better than about 1000x times better then the rest of America haha.

  • Kim @ Spoonful of Sass April 18, 2011, 9:47 pm

Spontaneous drinks out are the best! Makes you feel like you are on vacation…even if for just a few hours (especially in the beautiful weather) . And playing trivia is such a fun idea. I of course would lose due to my husbands sports knowledge as well, but I’m sure it would be a blast. 🙂

  • salah@myhealthiestlifestyle April 18, 2011, 9:49 pm

    those groats look amazing!!!!!

  • Cait @ Beyond Bananas April 18, 2011, 9:59 pm

Sometimes there’s nothing better than and adult bev on a patio!

  • Lili April 18, 2011, 10:42 pm

Wow how fun to be spontaneous like that on a Monday!
I see you eat kale often (I’ve never tried – I love collard greens though). Have you heard of ANDI values? Kale and Collard Greens are one of the veggies w/ the higher value! Check this info on the Whole Foods site out!

  • Mo April 18, 2011, 10:51 pm

I love spontaneous cocktail dates. We do that often and while it’s tempting to get some food specials, I have more fun with the adult beverage and getting home and eating something that is simple, healthier, and less $$.

  • Heather C April 18, 2011, 10:55 pm

The BEST part about Spring finally joining the party is that it’s now drinks(or food…)-on-the-patio/roofdeck season! These photos make me want a tasty Summer Ale…like, Now.

  • Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife April 18, 2011, 11:23 pm

Trivia is super fun with my husband too-we go neck and neck 🙂

  • JenATX April 18, 2011, 11:34 pm

  • khushboo April 19, 2011, 12:04 am

What a fun day! When it comes to trivia, I’m such a dork- I get SO into it!

After reading so much about chia seeds in oatmeal, I finally tried it and it made such a delicious and volumous bowl of oats! Do you know if it affects the consistency of overnight oats??

  • Kate (What Kate is Cooking) April 19, 2011, 12:12 am

Looks so fun! I love eating on patios at restaurants 🙂

There’s nothing like sitting out in the sun with a nice cold drink!

Haha I suck at sports trivia too! I always lose in Trivial Pursuit because of it. 😛

  • Alison @ Around the VeggieTable April 19, 2011, 9:36 am

I nominate your friend Nicole to take the baby kitty because I know she loves cats and really really wants one 🙂
