Sleepy Debate

in All Posts

When my alarm clock went off, there was an immediate battle in my brain: get up and swim or snuggle with James and go back to sleep?

Guess which option won out?

Yea.  Sleeping.  It seemed like the good choice at the time, but now that I’m staring down a busy, busy schedule, I’m thinking that I should’ve swam this morning.  Blast!

Here’s breakfast – another sweet syrup alternative!

Originally, I was planning on making Lazy Girl’s Cinnamon Bread French Toast, but decided at the last minute to sub out the cinnamon mixture for warmed dates.

Simply split down the middle, remove the pit, and microwave for 20 seconds.  Then, stuff between two slices of French toast.  Ohhhh yeah.

French toast for the win!

I cried; I confess.

    Csn’t…stop…crying!

  • Khushboo May 5, 2011, 8:27 am

Ohhh i want to cry but I think I should wait till I’m finished at work..i.e. on my own :)!

  • Errign May 5, 2011, 8:32 am

Mmm dates & pb are my new obsession! I bet this makes awesome french toast!

  • Kristy @ KristyRuns May 5, 2011, 8:33 am

I slept in this morning too. BUt when I saw that it was 38 degrees in Atlanta, I think I made the right choice not to run in the cold. I’ll wait until it’s 70 degrees this afternoon. 🙂

    • Samantha Angela May 5, 2011, 8:54 am

LOL! 38 degrees is perfect running weather, especially if it’s sunny. It’s not too hot and not too cold! 🙂

      • Kristy @ KristyRuns May 5, 2011, 9:00 am

haha! a little too cold for me…considering i’ve been running in 80 degree temps for a month now. 😉

      • Baking 'n' Books May 5, 2011, 9:03 am

I think Canadians are used to the cold 😉 With that said – I want Cali or someplace please!

Baby Youtube videos are the best!

  • Sarah@The Flying ONION May 5, 2011, 8:39 am

Such a cute, cute, cute video!! What a great way to start my day. 😀

  • Molly @ RDexposed May 5, 2011, 8:44 am

I wish I could look that good when I wake up. My hair is in every direction and I have smeared eye liner that wouldn’t come off the night before!

  • Amanda May 5, 2011, 8:44 am

I had that debate too and somehow managed to get up. I’m thankful now but I was hating myself at 5 am doing the 30 day shred!

  • Kris May 5, 2011, 8:53 am

No a.m. workout here. For some reason, DH has been on a big after work workout kick. Not gonna fight him on that, since that means we go to the gym together 🙂 I’d been thinking of pb stuffed dates for my breakfast, but I’m finding I do better w/ less carbs (oatmeal) and more protein (I’m loving eggs scrambled w/ kale) for breakfast.

  • Sarena (The Non Dairy Queen) May 5, 2011, 8:54 am

I always feel guilty when I choose to sleep…today I really wanted to stay in bed, but I got up anyway. I think a lot of coffee is going to be needed to fuel me today!

  • Victoria (District Chocoholic) May 5, 2011, 8:55 am

I skip sleep for workouts all the time. Probably not healthy, but I have long-term insomnia and rarely sleep more than 4-5 hours a night anyway. When I wake up at 5, there’s no sense *not* going and swimming. Early morning swims are the best, unless I can get to a (mostly empty) pool mid-day.

  • Sara @ OurDogBuffy May 5, 2011, 8:57 am

That video was the cutest. I love Google Chrome anyway, I’ll confess. How sweet. What a great idea! Sophie is adorable!

  • Corie May 5, 2011, 9:04 am

    Such a cute video! I teared up : )

  • Holly @ The Runny Egg May 5, 2011, 9:05 am

I did the same thing — intended to get up to run but decided to sleep instead. I think it was a good decision — I was so tired.

  • lindsay @ The Reluctant Runner May 5, 2011, 9:10 am

The knowledge that I will regret not working out is usually convinces me to do it. It almost always works, but sometimes the couch still wins out :).

  • Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat May 5, 2011, 9:10 am

I made it for my AM workout today but it was a tough one!! Right now I’m suffering from shin splints (which I rarely get – why this week!? gahh!) and am looking forward to some hot yoga this weekend. Your breakfast looks amazing Caitlin! Great idea with the dates!

  • Julie @ Shining From Within May 5, 2011, 9:20 am

that is the sweetest video ever. Omg, I am so doing that to my kids one day! It seems like such a cute and cool way to document life.. we’re on the web all the time so why not!?

  • Kiran @ KiranTarun.com May 5, 2011, 9:20 am

You know what? I slept in this morning too. Bummer!! But that breakfast surely would fuel us throughout the day 🙂

  • ashleigh May 5, 2011, 9:21 am

I find the only way I can wake up early is if I go to bed early. Last night I was in bed at 930 and this morning I forgot to set my alarm but woke up naturally at 610!

  • Sarah R May 5, 2011, 9:22 am

That video is great! What an awesome idea.

  • Lindsay May 5, 2011, 9:23 am

Had to stop the video to keep from crying at work!! So sweet…

  • Michelle May 5, 2011, 9:28 am

Such a cute video! Thanks for sharing! Love the looks of your colorful breakfast, I may request it for Mother’s Day!

  • Lucy @ The Sweet Touch May 5, 2011, 9:31 am

Sometimes you just need to sleep in! That was a cute video – I would love to do something along those lines when I have kids!

  • Laura May 5, 2011, 9:35 am

Your breakfast looks amazing! Speaking of breakfast… I am flying into Charlotte tomorrow morning (land at 8:30 am) then heading to High Point for a wedding… but my family wants to eat breakfast in Charlotte… what would you say is one of the best places around!? Love to know your opinion : )

    • CaitlinHTP May 5, 2011, 9:37 am

Zada Jane’s or the Flying Biscuit Cafe (never been to FBC but heard good things!)

      • Laura May 5, 2011, 1:05 pm

THANK YOU… just looked at the menu at Zada Janes’s love it!

  • Miranda @ Working Mom Works Out May 5, 2011, 9:36 am

Yumm! Dates and French Toast? I’m on board!

  • Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me May 5, 2011, 9:36 am

Mornings are definitely TOUGH. I gave up on them for the moment because the gym was just not happening for me. After work is definitely working out much nicer for me these days. Someday I may return to the morning but right now I’m really enjoying my schedule!

  • Caitlin May 5, 2011, 9:38 am

OK I just cried at that video. Google is doing an awesome job. Check out the “It Gets Better” one.

    • Caitlin May 5, 2011, 8:13 pm

That was awesome, too! Thanks for telling me about it.

  • Heather May 5, 2011, 9:41 am

ah that video is SO CUTE, love it. I am such a sap for things like that!

  • amanda (life in bloom) May 5, 2011, 9:43 am

I had 45 minutes of yoga planned this am, but I decided on sleep instead too. Not so happy about that now!!

  • Emily @ Comfortable Home Life May 5, 2011, 9:48 am

I had the exact same debate this morning, only mine was between sleep and hot yoga. Sleep won. :-/

AHHHHH that video is SO ADORABLE! I teared up a bit!

  • McKella May 5, 2011, 9:49 am

That looks really good. At first I thought it was jam and an egg on the French toast, which sounds yummy too! I’ll try them both.

  • Sophie @ threetimesf May 5, 2011, 9:52 am

I made the same choice – had hardly slept all night so when the alarm went a 6am running in the rain was the last thing I wanted to do!

Such a cute video – made my afternoon! I hope I can do that for my kids one day 😀

  • Reenie May 5, 2011, 9:53 am

Oh my………that video is the best! So cute.

    Have a great day!

    • Caitlin May 5, 2011, 8:13 pm

I hope you had a great day too!

  • chelsey @ clean eating chelsey May 5, 2011, 9:58 am

Okay that video totally gave me goosebumps. How cute was that?

  • Gretchen @ Honey, I Shrunk the Gretchen! May 5, 2011, 10:01 am

UM. SOB. I am NOT ashamed that video is so sweet it made me tear up.

  • Blair @ Healthy Quirks May 5, 2011, 10:02 am

“the web is what you make of it”
    This quote speaks volumes.

There are those that use it to waste time (which I’m sure most of us are guilty of to an extent)

Some use it to bully and spread hate.

But than there are those like Daniel Lee (if he even exists), who uses it to enhance the life of his family.

And people like you Caitlin, who use it to promote positivity and enhance the lives of so many!

    • Caitlin May 5, 2011, 8:14 pm

      Thank you Blair!!!

  • Maren May 5, 2011, 10:05 am

The video made me cry, too! Very sweet.

  • Katy (The Singing Runner) May 5, 2011, 10:06 am

AWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!! That video is SO PRECIOUS!!!! I’m tearing up!!!

I always have that debate with myself when I have to run in the morning…. usually if I blast some rap music, I get up and just go out.

  • Kate (What Kate is Cooking) May 5, 2011, 10:12 am

I’m putting off my workout until this afternoon. I may regret it!

  • Cait @ Beyond Bananas May 5, 2011, 10:23 am

Mmmm. Lazy girl french toast. That is what I’m talkin about!

  • alli May 5, 2011, 10:23 am

i could cry! what a sweet video!

  • Kim May 5, 2011, 10:43 am

Ahhh I missed my 6:15 swim class this morning too. Must be something in the air 🙂 I blamed it on my bike fall last night! No self responsibility here 🙂 Now I’ll be fighting for a lane at the Y tonight! Yikes, but so worth those extra zz’s 🙂 Happy Thursday!

  • Amber K May 5, 2011, 10:48 am

I never would have thought of using dates as a sweet syrup alternative. I love them though!

  • Lindsay May 5, 2011, 10:52 am

    I cried too. at work.

  • Stephanie May 5, 2011, 10:55 am

HA, that video – “You wanted to name him Salt” – my boss’s oldest wanted to name her younger sister “Ajax” lol.

    • Caitlin May 5, 2011, 8:14 pm

Ajax is a pretty sweet name, I must admit.

      • Stephanie May 6, 2011, 9:36 am

Definitely original-ish lol. I was like “wait, like the cleaning product?”

  • Lisa (I'm an Okie) May 5, 2011, 10:58 am

Ah. I teared up in the video too. What a sweet thing.

  • Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife May 5, 2011, 11:10 am

I sort of slept in too-but now I am off to an intense backpacking trip-yaah!!!

  • Heather May 5, 2011, 11:11 am

this is your friendly reminder from THS: choosing sleep today and being frustrated by it now will only help you to get out of bed to work out NEXT TIME.

One healthy decision at a time. No regrets. Just forward motion.

    xo love.

  • Jamie@everydaydolce May 5, 2011, 11:38 am

I do the same thing all the time. I get so frustrated with myself for it. Pulling myself out from my covers in the a.m. can be as laborious as a workout sometimes for me, lol. Yummy breakfast 🙂

  • Cat May 5, 2011, 11:45 am

OMG. Totally cried too @ the video!

  • Sana May 5, 2011, 11:46 am

And I have baby fever, that video was too cute!

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin May 5, 2011, 11:58 am

Sometimes it’s worth it to skip a workout in favour of sleep. Your body will thank you later! 😉

  • Ellie @ The Mommyist May 5, 2011, 12:05 pm

    Sometimes sleep deserves to win.

  • Josephine @ Creating a Positive Life May 5, 2011, 12:06 pm

Best video ever! I usually don’t watch videos ppl post but I am so glad I watched that one. Sigh

  • Michelle (your girlfriend for fitness) May 5, 2011, 12:50 pm

I’m sad to say that sleep always wins in my house 🙁 I really wish that I was a morning person and could get up and work out. I will not stop trying though!… maybe one day I will get there.

  • Natalia - a side of simple May 5, 2011, 12:57 pm

That french toast looks a little too amazing for words 🙂

  • Kristin @ Wounded Fawn May 5, 2011, 2:04 pm

That is the sweetest video and so sweet of your Dad to share it with you.

Hope you are having a great day even if it’s busy!

  • Elena @ GagaForGrapefruit May 5, 2011, 2:56 pm

  • Rachel May 5, 2011, 3:32 pm

  • CH May 5, 2011, 4:56 pm

  • Emma (Namaste Everyday) May 5, 2011, 5:49 pm

  • Christine May 5, 2011, 7:31 pm

  • Dee May 5, 2011, 9:26 pm

  • Kristen May 8, 2011, 10:10 pm
