All Over Town

in All Posts

I feel like I went all over Charlotte today (but I stayed in a 5-mile radius).  Charlotte is small but lovely!

First things first.  A haircut!  Jessie recommended I try out Salon 42.

IMG_9053

I forgot to take a picture before tossing my hair into a ponytail for a run, but I like it!  And if you’re in Charlotte and check it out, ask for Jason and he’ll give you the sweet Healthy Tipping Point discount.  :)

Oh, on the way there, I inhaled Greek yogurt + 1/2 cup oatmeal.  Yes, I ate it in the car at stop lights.  🙂

IMG_9052

Post-run, I stopped into Charlotte’s official running store, Run for Your Life.  Now, you guys KNOW how much I loved Orlando’s Track Shack, and I have to say that RFYL lived up to my expectations.  As long as they offer as great as a return policy on shoes as Track Shack, I’m sold.

IMG_9055

I was there to pick up my packet for Saturday’s 4.0-mile race and check out the sweet sales rack.  I need to stock up on cold-weather running gear!

I was feeling so inspired after shopping around (and buying the latest Runner’s World), that I decided to go for a quick run.  I wrapped up 2.6 miles in 24:00 minutes, keeping it short to ensure I have relatively fresh legs for the race.

PLUSSS – I was meeting Brittney for a doggie stroll.

IMG_9060

Look at her cute little wiener dog!!! I loved him! He was so much tinier than Maggie

Speaking of Maggie, she doesn’t “do” walks so I just brought my little man James along.  Brittney, Clyde, James, and I walked for about 45 minutes.

IMG_9058

More in-car dining ensued!  This time, it was an almond butter and jam sandwich.

IMG_9057

And, in an attempt to squeeze in veggies, I had a Green Monster, which contained 2 cups raw spinach, 1 cup almond milk, and 2 scoops of Vega Shake N Go.

IMG_9065

I’m OFF!  I’m really pumped to flip through Runner’s World and enjoy some down-time with the Husband and the TV.

Oddly enough, that still really makes me want a Hoegaarden…

So I’m just a beginning runner and I have been too intimidated to check out my local running shop. Should I suck it up and check it out?

    • caitlin July 22, 2010, 8:39 pm

Running shops REALLY cater to all levels and they LOVE helping new people. There is so much fun gear, you must go!

  • alex July 22, 2010, 8:34 pm

What kind of return policy do they have? I am new to running, and am always afraid to fork over $100 or so bucks for shoes that don’t work for me. Can you return after you test them out?? That would be amazing if so!

    • caitlin July 22, 2010, 8:39 pm

At Track Shack, I once ran 20 + miles in a pair of shoes and they let me return them — without a receipt!

      • Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday July 22, 2010, 10:38 pm

Why did you return them after 20 miles of running? And what do they do with used running shoes once they’re returned?

        • caitlin July 23, 2010, 9:59 am

They reallly started to bother my feet – they would go numb after every run. I don’t know what they did with them – they weren’t dirty or anything so maybe they resold them at a discount?

      • alex July 23, 2010, 1:39 am

WOW!! That’s pretty awesome that they do that! I will have to check into my sports place here and see what their policy is. Thanks for the heads up! 😉

  • Heather July 22, 2010, 8:43 pm

looks like a nice salon and a nice running store!

  • Estela @ Weekly Bite July 22, 2010, 8:45 pm

You had one busy day! So glad you found a good running store!

    Have a great night 🙂

  • lauren @ Eater not a runner July 22, 2010, 8:46 pm

I have to check out that store when I’m back in Charlotte!

  • Marilou @ Mostly Healthy July 22, 2010, 8:48 pm

How come Maggie won’t do walks? Isn’t it weird??

  • tanyasdaily July 22, 2010, 8:50 pm

Your dog is so cute…in the front seat!

  • Tina July 22, 2010, 8:50 pm

Enjoy your down time! And you had me cracking up with your tweets. Carolina girls have it way more together anyways. 😉

  • Coco @ Opera Girl Cooks July 22, 2010, 8:53 pm

Haha, I have that same beer glass! Won it at a pub trivia night . . .

  • Cynthia (It All Changes) July 22, 2010, 8:54 pm

I love that cute little running place. I wish we had one closer.

Enjoy the new issue of RW… it’s great!

  • Anne @ the doctor takes a wife July 22, 2010, 9:02 pm

I eat in the car SO much. Dallas is full of cute little running stores, which I actually haven’t been to!! Maybe a field trip will ensue tomorrow 🙂

  • Maria @ Oh Healthy Day July 22, 2010, 9:03 pm

I wish all salons will take a clue from this one and put up those little “cubes”. I like some privacy when I’m ranting about my hair issues 🙂

  • Exercise and Eat July 22, 2010, 9:09 pm

Put up a pic of the haircut tmr! Im getting mine done next week and need inspiration!

  • A from Despues I Do July 22, 2010, 9:13 pm

Looks like you’re adjusting to Charlotte life beautifully! And good for you for showing that you can eat in the car AND still eat healthy!

  • Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine July 22, 2010, 9:14 pm

I’ve been eating in the car a lot lately, and PB sammies are the best for that! Glad you found a fun running store!

  • Michal July 22, 2010, 9:23 pm

With all intended doggie-love, that picture cracked me up. Brittney’s dog’s tongue is so long in comparison to his body! I can’t remember the last time I saw a wiener in person – I’m going to be so tempted to check their tongues after this!

  • Jackie (Peaces of Earth) July 22, 2010, 9:23 pm

haha! I have that Hoegaarden glass. Do they even sell those? I may have, um, acquired mine for free. 😉

    • caitlin July 23, 2010, 10:04 am

Haha I also acquired mine for free 😉

  • Sarena (The Non Dairy Queen) July 22, 2010, 9:24 pm

      Thank you SO much Myra!

  • Jennifer July 22, 2010, 9:35 pm

Can I just say that I love that you drink your green monsters out of a beer glass! My favorite kind of beer nonetheless 🙂 Excellent haha

  • Jasmine @ Eat Move Write July 22, 2010, 9:40 pm

Ha! I have that exact same glass and I used it for smoothies too.
P.S. I got your Op Beautiful email blast today. Yay!!! My book has been pre-ordered for weeks! 🙂

    • caitlin July 23, 2010, 10:05 am

      Thank you jasmine!! 🙂

  • Alexis @ Mission: Ambition July 22, 2010, 10:28 pm

Getting a haircut is always good – it makes me feel great 🙂 Hope yours did the same for you!

I think I may soon pay a visit to the running store here in Columbus. I’m currently a cardio kickboxing girl but really want to be a runner!

  • Chelsey July 22, 2010, 10:36 pm

You sure were all over town today! My goodness!

  • Morgan @ Life After Bagels July 22, 2010, 10:37 pm

I love how you say Maggie doesn’t “do” walks . . . like she’s a celebrity and really walks are just beneath her, and besides that’s what she has her assistant James for, he “does” the walking, hahaha!

    • caitlin July 23, 2010, 10:06 am

hahah this comment made me LOL. Maggie is Queen. That’s what we call her. I have to literally carry her into the grass, put her done, she pees, I pick her back up and carry her to the couch. It’s sad.

  • Heather July 22, 2010, 10:40 pm

If it’s the August issue of Runner’s World that you have, make sure you read the article about the Portland, OR woman who organized a run for the women of the Democratic Republic of Congo…so inspiring!

    • caitlin July 23, 2010, 10:06 am

      Amazing article, I agree!!!

  • Angharad July 22, 2010, 10:42 pm

I love it when my Runners World subscription arrives and I get to just hunker down on the sofa and soak it all in – best kind of geeking out! Always motivates me so much as well.

  • janna @ janna's keeping it real July 22, 2010, 10:59 pm

what a cute name for a running store, love it!

we have a great store here (Fleet Feet, which i am sure is all over the US) that has the same type of return policy as Track Shack! I was having some issues with my mizunos after around 2 weeks, and they took them back, and had me in a new shoe, no questions asked!

  • Lindsey July 22, 2010, 11:10 pm

I have a totally off-topic question that you may be able to help me with. I’ve been biking a lot and I feel like I need something to wear under my helmet to keep sweat from dripping down from my hair. When you were doing your century training did you ever have that problem? I thought about just a headband type thing from target, but I don’t want it to make me too warm, if that makes sense.

    • HTP Dad' July 22, 2010, 11:18 pm

use a sweatband – but the sweatband need to be out from under the helmet so it can evaporate sweat away. I love my BondiBand.

      • caitlin July 23, 2010, 10:07 am

I also suggest BondiBand (I gave my Dad his!)

        • HTP Dad' July 23, 2010, 10:26 am

and now I can’t find it – so sad.

  • marie July 22, 2010, 11:28 pm

doood your day looks so productive! also, thank you for reminding me i need a haircut.

  • Amber K @ sparkpeople July 22, 2010, 11:42 pm

I love getting my haircut, it makes me feel fresh and new! Hope you had a great night.

  • MegaNerd July 22, 2010, 11:58 pm

Orlando misses you! err…. I do at least. And so does Track shack.

  • Amy Ramos July 23, 2010, 12:29 am

I just wanted to let you know I pre-ordered your book! I can not wait for it. I think it can really help with my self/body image issues I have had much my teenage and adult life.
Good luck on the Today Show!!

    • caitlin July 23, 2010, 10:07 am

Thank you so much… I really appreciate that Amy!

      • amy July 23, 2010, 11:47 am

of course!! Anything to help out a blogger 🙂

  • Samantha July 23, 2010, 1:27 am

I WANT those blue and green shorts in the RFYL store pic…what brand are they?

Sounds like you’re really settling into your new home. Wonderful news!

I’ve pre-ordered the book and another copy for my niece who turned 18 today and is stunningly gorgeous (outside AND in), but battled some issues of her own.

  • Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter July 23, 2010, 2:01 am

I had an AB & J sandwich today too. Ahhh. It was so delightful!

  • Penelope July 23, 2010, 3:00 am

Your new Charlotte life sounds great so far!!! I’m so happy for you!! 🙂

  • Freya @ Brit Chick Runs July 23, 2010, 3:00 am

How nice to be close to a running store! The nearst one to me is the actual internet I believe…!! 😛

  • Laura (Starloz) July 23, 2010, 4:40 am

oh Charlotte sounds perfect. I want to visit.

  • Kath July 23, 2010, 8:49 am

    What a cool salon!

  • Holly @ couchpotatoathlete.wordpress.com July 23, 2010, 8:50 am

I have eaten a bowl of oatmeal or cereal in the car so many times! I usually use a mug instead of a bowl — its easier to hang onto!

Your post reminded me to go to my running store and check out the winter clothing — it must be on clearance in July!

  • Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) July 23, 2010, 9:38 am

OK, we will have to set up a dog walking date of our own! I’m too close to Charlotte to miss out on these blogger meet ups 🙂

    • caitlin July 23, 2010, 10:07 am

      I agreee!!!

  • Amy July 23, 2010, 11:10 am

Glad that you are making a home for yourself in Charlotte! Finding a good salon and a good running store are key 🙂

Be careful walking your doggies in this heat. I know you’re from Florida so they may be used to it, but my good friend’s dog passed away yesterday due to a heatstroke. They just went for a short 20 minute walk, but in this heat it was just too much. I don’t want to be a downer, but I wanted to pass along the warning to you and other dog owners.

    • Caitlin July 23, 2010, 11:18 am

OMG your poor friend! that is terribleeeee!

  • Marci July 23, 2010, 11:24 am

PB&J and green monsters are my favorite combo! And I love diving into Runners World and Women’s Health. And I love my local running store too. Can’t walk in without finding a new toy, Nike shorts, shirt, etc. I want to go to Charlotte so we can be friends.
