So proud of myself!

IMG_3030 IMG_3035

After a week with little (okay – no) exercise due to my travel schedule, I finally had a chance to go for a run.  And boy – it was a PERFECT running weather.  Chilly but not too cold.  Foggy and beautiful.  An ideal fall morning.

It was strange to run 3.0 miles without music.  A silent run, if you will!  My iPod was lost someone in my luggage, and I didn’t want to wake up the Husband to root around for it.  So it was just me, the birds, and all the elementary school kids on their way to class.

Healthy intention #1 of the day – CHECK!  Now, I just need to do 20 push-ups and I’ll really feel like a rock star.  Anyone else already completed their workout?

After such a chilly run, a warm breakfast was in order.

Pumpkin pancakes (just a gluten-free mix with canned pumpkin puree mixed in) with baked apples, honey roasted peanuts, and maple syrup on top.

  • Taylor @ Crumbs Don't Count October 21, 2011, 9:15 am

I love getting in my workouts early so I can check it off my list and not WORRY about doing it all day while at work. Plus it starts the whole day off on a positive note!

  • Hillary October 21, 2011, 9:15 am

Fall running weather is the absolute best. If only every morning could be so cool and refreshing!

  • Amanda- The Nutritionist Reviews October 21, 2011, 9:15 am

I like the color of that blue hoodie on you! Also, I love backed apples on hot breakfast items such as french toast and oatmeal too.

  • Lori Lynn October 21, 2011, 9:16 am

Looks like a really nice day. I love those kind of days!

  • katie @ KatieDid October 21, 2011, 9:20 am

Can’t say I’ve worked out today, in fact I don’t think I’ll have a chance to but I’m taking a welcomed day off. My healthy habits will be to stick to my no- coffee streak i’ve miraculously had going all week, and not lose my sanity before my big midterm exam later today!

  • Amanda October 21, 2011, 9:23 am

Great job on getting that run in and checking off a healthy intention! Sometimes it’s so nice to run without music and just take in everything around you. I love the cool and crisp fall mornings we’ve been having. 🙂

Your breakfast looks pretty awesome too! I had to take a little break from honey roasted peanuts recently. Apparently I have zero self control around them. haha

  • Ashley @ Good Taste Healthy Me October 21, 2011, 9:23 am

Good for you! I would’ve had a tough time without music! It totally puts pep in my step!

  • Lauren October 21, 2011, 9:24 am

6 am spin class complete! I love morning workouts 🙂 They energize me and set me on the right path from the start!

  • Katie @ Peace Love and Oats October 21, 2011, 9:33 am

I can’t remember the last time I ran without music… I should try it sometime!

  • faith October 21, 2011, 9:34 am

I biked to work! It won’t be my only exercise of the day but it’s a good start. Have a great day!

  • Sophie @ threetimesf October 21, 2011, 9:40 am

Mmmm those pancakes look amazing! I have walkd the dog already, and hoping to squeeze an exercise dvd in later!

  • Tiffany October 21, 2011, 10:02 am

6 am bootcamp – gets the weekend started off on the right foot! I am going to have to try those pumpkin pancakes and add some protein powder. Do you think they would reheat well if I made a batch the night before?

    • Caitlin October 21, 2011, 9:38 pm

Probably!! Let me know how it goes.

  • Sarena (The Non Dairy Queen) October 21, 2011, 10:03 am

I was just thinking about the baked apples yesterday! I need to make those again! Breakfast looks incredible! I hope you have a great day Caitlin!

  • Carolina John October 21, 2011, 10:11 am

Today is a rest day for me Thank God.

  • Ashley @ Cooking for John October 21, 2011, 10:27 am

I got my booty out of bed to make it to a FREE 6 am yoga class before work. So happy I did! 🙂

    Nice run!! 🙂

  • Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat October 21, 2011, 10:27 am

Cute hoodie! I too, ran in silence today because my iPod has been on the fritz for the past couple of months. I finally bought a new one yesterday, but haven’t had time to sync it yet because I’m traveling for a conference with my work computer and my beloved iTunes are on my Mac at home. Awesome job on your push-ups! 🙂

  • Jen@FoodFamilyFitness October 21, 2011, 10:40 am

Dang, you always have the best meals! How do you come up with these ideas? However it is, keep them coming! 🙂
As a mom to 3, my workouts are done before the sun comes up, or it won’t happen.

  • kalli October 21, 2011, 10:45 am

good for you! i ran 5.5 miles and am now ready for my day 🙂

  • Mary @ Bites and Bliss October 21, 2011, 10:57 am

Good job on the run! It always feels weird not listening to music for me, too. I better get used it it though…the marathon I’m training for doesn’t allow music!!

  • Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed October 21, 2011, 11:30 am

I rarely run without music… it always pumps me up so much! That bfast is so perfect for fall! I wanna make some pumpkin pancakes, yum!

Btw… I vowed to do 20 push ups yesterday and I forgot all day until I was laying on the couch like a lump before bed. And then I thought of my promise in your comment section and busted them out! My bf even did some too. Thanks for the inspiration!

    • Caitlin October 21, 2011, 9:38 pm

Nice – I’m going to do mine RIGHT NOW because I forgot too.

  • Amanda @ JustAmandaJ October 21, 2011, 11:33 am

Oh man, baked apples! I’ve been meaning to make some for a bit but now you’ve motivated me 🙂

  • Jess October 21, 2011, 11:45 am

Could really go for a plate of those pumpkin pancakes right now! Yum! Ran 1.5 miles and now time to hit the gym for some weights!

  • Christelle October 21, 2011, 11:57 am

Wow, that breakfast is making my mouth water…looks amazing!

  • Chelsea October 21, 2011, 12:15 pm

I love running in the morning and seeing the kids get on their buses. Not going to lie it makes me feel like a B.A. for being up so early hahahah 🙂

I even had a girl I coach once ask me, “Coach Chelsea were you running super-super early yesterday?” I laughed and was like yep!

    • Caitlin October 21, 2011, 9:37 pm

      🙂 Aw how sweet.

  • Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun October 21, 2011, 12:32 pm

I love those endorphins and great feelings from the first workout after a break. I would also love the feelings of a full belly after that breakfast. YUM!

  • Michelle (The Runner's Plate) October 21, 2011, 1:16 pm

I ran 3 miles this morning too. A short run before my long run (15 miles) tomorrow.

  • Amber K October 21, 2011, 1:24 pm

I can never seem to get motivated to work out without my tunes. I wish I could be one of those people who can just stick with what’s in their head, but with me it usually becomes “Man I’m tired. When is this going to be over? I think my foot is starting to hurt. Wait, is that actual pain or just my mind trying to convince me to stop? Ugh, is it sprinkling? Can I use that as an excuse to stop?” Whereas with music I get lost in the moment.

  • Andrea October 21, 2011, 1:25 pm

is that hoodie from fivebamboo.com? it looks so comfortable and the color is perfect!

    • Caitlin October 21, 2011, 9:37 pm

Yes – love it. There are thumb holes, too!

  • Kristen @ notsodomesticated October 21, 2011, 1:26 pm

Those pancakes look delicious!! And I’m supposed to be running 12 miles tomorrow, but I’m a big baby and I don’t know how I’m going to handle the colder weather (like around 45 degrees). Last week, my husband and I did 11 miles on a treadmill because we didn’t want to go out in the cold. What wusses! 😉

    • Caitlin October 21, 2011, 9:36 pm

11 miles on the treadmill is insane. you go girl!

  • kathleen @ the daily crumb October 21, 2011, 1:31 pm

delicious pancakes!! and i love that quote… we can’t always control the action… but always we must control our reaction.

  • TeenyLittleSuperChef October 21, 2011, 1:55 pm

Oh holy yumminess! Your breakfast looks like autumn on a plate. I bet it tasted just like it too. I think I know what I’ll be making this morning. What type of apple do you typically use for this? I think all I have right now is a Fuji and I don’t think those hold up well during cooking. Could a pear be substituted?

    • Caitlin October 21, 2011, 9:35 pm

Oh baked pears sound awesome. try it!

i do baked apple with two greens and two red!

  • Julia H. @ The Petite Spiel October 21, 2011, 2:09 pm

Hoodies definitely required! It’s been rainy here lately, but yesterday it was sunny outside…that didn’t mean it was warm though! I saw the sunshine & wanted to run outside after doing some gym-time first, but didn’t think to bring a sweater. And, boy, was it WINDY. No run for me that day!

  • Moni'sMeals October 21, 2011, 2:24 pm

I love Hoodie season! It must of felt great to get a workout in after your busy schedule. 🙂

So your breakfast looks ammmmmazing! Yum yum yum!

  • April @ Grits and Granola Bars October 21, 2011, 2:25 pm

That hoodie is adorable! Where’d you get it?

  • Lisa October 21, 2011, 2:34 pm

Does your face every get cold when you are out running? Any good solutions?

    • Caitlin October 21, 2011, 9:34 pm

For really cold weather, I wrap a scarf around my mouth. A sweat wicking one!

  • Ashley October 21, 2011, 3:04 pm

That breakfast looks amazing! Serve me up some please 🙂

  • Carin October 21, 2011, 3:10 pm

Well done! I’m a silent runner too…. well, no ipod, just me puffing away in different rhythms to entertain myself. It’s a good oppotrunity to think, focus on my body, be positive and notice & enjoy what’s around.

So great to talk to you after the tele-conference (tele-nar like a webinar?) yesterday – you’re such a poised speaker and so honest and approachable. It was a real lift and the highlight of my day! x

    • Caitlin October 21, 2011, 9:33 pm

Thank you so much sweetie. I need to get back to your email, too! Soon!

  • Meredith October 21, 2011, 3:29 pm

I find anyone that can run without music to be quite hardcore! I need the distraction.

    • Carin October 21, 2011, 10:50 pm

Hardcore? Me? It’s cool NOT to be distracted – quite a difference to focus on one thing rather than be doing a bazillion things at once!

  • Courtney @ The Petite AthlEAT October 21, 2011, 3:31 pm

You just mix canned pumpkin right into the pre-made pancake mix? Any old amount will do? Why didn’t I think of that?!

    • Caitlin October 21, 2011, 9:33 pm

Yup – I did 1/2 cup pancake mix and 1/4 cup pumpkin.

  • Christine @ Oatmeal in my Bowl October 21, 2011, 4:18 pm

Those pancakes look extremely delicious. Craving breakfast post lunch. 😉

  • Rosa - Fitness, Food, Fulfilled October 21, 2011, 5:49 pm

I’ve never run with music because I love hearing everything around me. Plus, it lets me think more clearly, especially after the madness that goes on during the rest of the day.

  • Molly @ RDexposed October 21, 2011, 6:03 pm

Why don’t I do this to fruit when I make pancakes? Note to self….

  • Corrie Anne October 21, 2011, 6:44 pm

Perfect running weather. I LOVE THAT about fall!!

  • Vanessa (@IsleStyleLiving) October 21, 2011, 7:31 pm

I need to try some of these pumpkin pancakes!!

    YUMMM

  • Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] October 21, 2011, 10:43 pm

Yum on the flapjacks – are you going the GF route?

  • Bodyworks Family Sports Centers October 22, 2011, 3:01 am

Pumpkin is a good source of carbohydrates. It is loaded with vitamin A and antioxidant carotenoids, which is good for the skin. It is low in calorie. A great food after a run.

  • Trina October 22, 2011, 3:55 pm

Would you have a recipe for that apple and honey sauce for the pancakes?? It looks amazing!
