Another Evening In

How creeped out does Maggie look in this family picture?

Caitlin1

Poor thing.

Much like last night, we’re staying in tonight and doing noooothing.  It feels so good.

Actually, we got a ton of adult-chores done today.  We worked, cleaned the car, did taxes (!!), and rearranged some furniture.  I also ran 3.0 miles – yesterday, I did 5.0 miles with Nicole.  I had fun running yesterday, but today’s jaunt just felt totally sluggish.  It was as much mental sluggishness as it was physical…

I think I’m ready for the National Half Marathon to BE HERE already!  It’s been so long since I ran a race, and training has seemed to drag on and on.  Once we get to the National Half, I have a TON of fun races planned, including maybe two other Halfs and an obstacle 5K… Come on, spring! 🙂

Pre-run cereal and sunflower seeds:

Post-run snack was an orange:

And dinner was made by the Husband. 🙂 Love it when the man cooks.  He did a kale, green pepper, soy bean, and whole wheat pasta stir-fry with some sort of light Asian-flavored sauce.

IMG_0416

And I convinced the Husband to get ice cream (well, he got sorbet ) with me after our dinner.  Only as I paid did I realize this might count as a violation of Eat-In Challenge, but I REALLY wanted dessert, and we have no sweets in the house.  And you know what?  Bonaroo Buzz with a sprinkle cone was worth bending the Eat-In rules a little bit.

Anyone else getting antsy for their upcoming race?  What race are you doing and why are you so excited for it?  I’m excited to travel to DC for the Half!  I love going to the capitol.

You get to go do a half in D.C?! That totally rocks! And no, that is not breaking the rule at all…..okay maybe just a little 😉 But anything in the name of dessert doesn’t really matter!! Enjoy your night in- we too are staying in and it feels WONDerful!!!

  • Scarlett February 26, 2011, 9:19 pm

You look stunning in the family pic! Love your earrings. Maggie’s face is priceless haha!

    • Caitlin February 27, 2011, 10:37 am

      Thank you Scarlett 🙂

My earrings were a bridesmaid gift so I’ll have to tell my friend you said that 🙂

  • Baking 'n' Books February 26, 2011, 9:19 pm

I was wondering why anyone wouldn’t want ice cream! – and then realized it’s probably because he’s vegan 🙂 How do you NOT have sweets in the house?!

That was a productive day. How do you manage to fit it all in when your writing too? How many hours a day do you spend at it? I find that just trying to do freelance in my spare time (i.e weekends or evenings) sucks out the time for the other stuff. I need money obviously but then I feel guilty for even taking an afteroon or day to just watch a movie or when am I supposed to READ?! (so many books right now…)

    • Caitlin February 27, 2011, 10:40 am

I don’t buy sweets because I tend to eat it all in two sittings. 🙂

I think the key is finding the schedule that works for you. If it takes you a little longer to do stuff, no big deal.

  • jess @ upsanddownes February 26, 2011, 9:24 pm

Oh boy! This post couldnt have come at a better time! I am sitting in my Disney world hotel room awaiting my VERY early wake up call for…the disney princess half!!!!! It is my second half and FIRST time traveling (I live in Phily!) for a race! Anticipation cant even describe it rigth now! wish me luck! oh and ps- totally got the princess race idea from you!

  • VeggieGirl February 26, 2011, 9:27 pm

    Haha aww, Maggie 😀

OOOH Ben & Jerry’s! My favorite. I’ve been wondering about that new Bonaroo Buzz flavor…

  • Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) February 26, 2011, 9:28 pm

Love the dinner. Made by hubs, even better. Sounds awful, but in 12 yrs my hubs has never cooked for me. I used to not care, now I dont even want him in the kitchen. He’s a liability and makes messes and honestly, I really do love cooking for my family.

Breaking the eat in challenge for ice cream, sounds great 🙂

  • Katy (The Singing Runner) February 26, 2011, 9:29 pm

Man oh man am I READY for a race! I was supposed to be doing Gasparilla this weekend but my leg had other plans. Fingers crossed that I can do the IronGirl half in April. I am itching to race again!

  • Ash Bear February 26, 2011, 9:31 pm

That’s an adorable picture of you guys! You’re very photogenic missy. I am so excited to see everyone in DC for the National Half! 🙂 It’s coming up quickly!

  • Ashley February 26, 2011, 9:31 pm

I think an occasional sweet eat out is totally okay! Just imagine all the money you saved had you actually gone out to eat! Has it seemed difficult?

    • Caitlin February 27, 2011, 10:45 am

We’ve saved at least $120 over two weeks – it’s nuts.

  • Kacy February 26, 2011, 9:31 pm

I have a race in less than a month but I’m not really antsy. I’ll probably get that way a few weeks out though. I’ve been taking it really easy with training though, so that might be why.

Ice cream totally doesn’t count. Ice cream makes the world go round.

  • J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) February 26, 2011, 9:33 pm

That ice cream cone is totally worth bending the rules for! Besides, dessert doesn’t count towards food, right? 😉

  • Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat February 26, 2011, 9:35 pm

Oooh wow that is quite a cone! Maggie looks like she’s not at all interested in photos lol! I’m not registered for any upcoming races but I know what you mean about wanting it to be here already. I was like that with my first marathon and by the time it rolled around I was like, “Agh I could have done this ages ago!” However, I’m excited for you and your race! I’m sure you’ll rock it as usual. 🙂

  • Colleen February 26, 2011, 9:35 pm

I’m running the National in DC, too! It’s only my second half–my first was Baltimore’s in October. I ran 10 miles today and I do not want to wait another 4 weeks for this race!

    • Caitlin February 27, 2011, 10:46 am

Oh well you will have to come to the meet up 🙂 More deets are forthcoming.

  • Amy February 26, 2011, 9:36 pm

Mmmmm ice cream is. Necessity, like toilet paper and water…so its definitely not an eat-in violation!!!

I’m running a 10k in April…its a ways off, but its my first race in a year, so I’m excited for it to get here! Plus, its in Philly, my favorite city!

  • Sarah February 26, 2011, 9:39 pm

    I have a race tomorrow,and I’m sooo excited!

  • the veg meg February 26, 2011, 9:40 pm

A week from today is a friend of mine’s first race (5k), and the hubby and I are running it with him! I’m super excited – it’s my first race since Spinx! Two weeks after that race is another 5k on my campus that I’m probably running with another friend – it’ll be her first race, too!

  • Errign February 26, 2011, 9:43 pm

I have never run a race, but I am getting excited for my trip to Singapore in less than 2 weeks. Ready for some travel time!

    • Caitlin February 27, 2011, 10:47 am

I am jeals of your trip to Singapore.

  • Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine February 26, 2011, 9:44 pm

I was planning on doing the National Half but dropped out because of my knee 🙁 I’m hoping to still make it to watch, though!!

  • Mrs. Muffins February 26, 2011, 9:49 pm

Mmm, that sprinkle cone looks so yum! I’m super excited about running my FIRST 5K! It’s an April Fool’s Day race and the weekend of my birthday (which is actually the 1st!). I want this year to be AMAZING and I can’t think of a better way to start it than running this race!
    xx

  • Michelle February 26, 2011, 9:54 pm

I’m 3 weeks out from the NYC half! I’m excited because it’s my first half ever and the route goes through times square!!

My dog makes the same face as Maggie. It’s her “god my person is so annoying but if I look annoyed enough maybe it will result in a treat for me” face. She’s also a pro at the “I’m going to look sad and mopey when you leave for work and maybe you won’t go” face. 🙂

    • Caitlin February 27, 2011, 10:48 am

I’m doing the NYC 13.1 half – are you doing that one too?

      • Michelle February 27, 2011, 3:01 pm

Nope. (that’s the one in Queens, right?) I’m doing the official NYC Half. (I think they’re different!)

  • April @ Crazy Fabulous Life February 26, 2011, 9:57 pm

I’ve got 9 weeks until my very first 5k! I’m doing the Run for Our Heroes 5k in Raleigh 🙂 I’m excited because it’s my first race plus it’s in honor of fallen law enforcement. So this 5k combines two of my loves – running and law enforcement 🙂

  • Emily February 26, 2011, 9:57 pm

Good eats! My parents got me sorbet tonight so I felt like a pretty lucky girl, especially after a day of grad classes. Enjoy your night with the husband!

  • Michelle February 26, 2011, 10:03 pm

I am doing a fun run 5km for St. Patty’s Day and then the Eugene Half Marathon in May.

  • Holly @ Couch Potato Athlete February 26, 2011, 10:15 pm

I just recently started training for Grandma’s Marathon in June but I wish the race would hurry up and get here! These next few months are going to feel like forever!

We went out for dinner but other than that we stayed home all day. Felt good!

    • Caitlin February 27, 2011, 10:48 am

      HealthyAshley.com did the grandma’s marathon!

  • Lee February 26, 2011, 10:22 pm

Yup. I’m doing the Publix GA half-marathon on March 20th and I really wish it would get here.

  • Melissa @ TryingToHeal February 26, 2011, 10:26 pm

I’m going to Oakland at the end of the month and am super nervous over it because it is soooo hilly! I can’t wait to see how it goes!!! you’re going to do great in DC!!! I wish I could have run there; I haven’t been to DC in almost 15 years!

  • Katie @ Healthy Heddleston February 26, 2011, 10:30 pm

I have a race next weekend called the Mill Creek Classic Distance. It’s a half marathon in Youngstown Ohio — should be a small race and it touts 19 hills. I’m a little nervous but I need to just remember to trust my training!

Your ice cream cone looks yummy.

  • sarah k. @ the pajama chef February 26, 2011, 10:32 pm

i’m running in a may marathon, but just signed up for an april half & i can’t wait! it’ll be the perfect tune-up race before the real deal 🙂

  • Kristin February 26, 2011, 10:43 pm

I had a quick question about racing for you. If your running a marathon say how do you keep your spirits/motivation up through the whole race. If you know you still have 2 hours ahead of you and are only halfway done how do you keep going keep pushing and stay motivated?

    • Caitlin February 27, 2011, 10:51 am

I will say that the first two hours of a marathon go by very very very quickly. It’s the last hour that’s a bitch (the last six miles, really). The crowd and other runners will help boost your spirits up until that point. I would recommend having a “last hour” playlist on your iPod that is SUPERRRRRRRRRRR motivating that you can switch to.

  • Jess@atasteofconfidence February 26, 2011, 10:44 pm

i had ice cream tonight, too! it was delish.

  • Kate (What Kate is Cooking) February 26, 2011, 10:49 pm

I love evenings in. Unfortunately mine is spent with homework 🙂

I get antsy for races for sure! My next half marathon isn’t until May, but I am doing a race at Knott’s Berry Farm next month and am SO excited!

  • kira February 26, 2011, 10:50 pm

Your family photo is adorable! And hellooo your not breaking your eat in challenge! Ice cream never counts!

  • christine February 26, 2011, 10:57 pm

I’m doing the Modesto 1/2 Marathon in 3 weeks, but I’m SUPER excited for the 21 miler I’m doing in Big Sur in May. Scared, but in a good way (sometimes in a “what were you thinking way???” though).

  • Fit Chick Britt February 26, 2011, 11:00 pm

I just did my first marathon and I think I jumped into the speed work too fast after so I’ve been having some knee trouble. I’m ready to get on with my race schedule though. I have some pretty big plans for this year depending on the knee.

  • Shah'ada February 26, 2011, 11:08 pm

I’ll be running my first 10K on March 19!!!! Super excited 😀

  • Dorry February 26, 2011, 11:23 pm

I’m running the Rock in Roll half in Dallas the day after your race! And I’m getting antsy for it to get here, too. I’m hoping for good weather. March in Dallas is very up in the air!

  • Lisa February 26, 2011, 11:34 pm

I feel like winter training/running is realllly dragging for me. At first I felt hardcore forcing myself to get out there to run on the snowy/icy sidewalks but it has worn off and I’m ready for the spring thaw. Running is just less fun when you’re competing for space on a half buried sidewalk and hoping you don’t slip and wreak yourself –oh yeah and it’s freezing!

    • Caitlin February 27, 2011, 10:51 am

      It will be warm soon!

  • Amanda (Eating Up) February 26, 2011, 11:56 pm

Sprinkle cones are the best! I’m craving one from Oberweis now.

  • Kathleen @ KatsHealthCorner February 27, 2011, 12:06 am

    You are absolutely gorgeous!

Sprinkle cones are the best! 🙂

  • Allie @ Healthy Balance, Healthy Life February 27, 2011, 12:21 am

I loveeee Ben and Jerry’s because it’s GOOD and because it’s from VERMONT! 🙂

  • Liz @ FitLizzy.com February 27, 2011, 12:56 am

I’m racing tomorrow!! Just a 5K trail race but it’s good to get out there! I know the antsy feeling – it’s good to get you pumped but it can drive you a bit insane 🙂

  • Ashley February 27, 2011, 1:29 am

I’m doing a 5k in April and I’m excited because it’s my first one!! Not antsy yet though, just nervous.

  • Amy February 27, 2011, 1:52 am

On 19 March I am participating in the Tarawera Ultra. I am getting antsy because it’s my first ultra (60k) and it’s in New Zealand! Woohoo!

  • Espie February 27, 2011, 3:43 am

OMG! I have ants in my pants over the Pittsburgh mary! I’ve even started to look at what races I want to do after that! Ps. U should run pittsburgh next year and come back to where it all started to tip 🙂

    • Caitlin February 27, 2011, 10:52 am

I always think about running Pittsburgh 🙂 Maybe one day!

  • Nikki M February 27, 2011, 6:20 am

I am running my first 5K on Saturday, so I’m really excited/nervous about that! I know it’s only a 5K, but I’ve never ran an organized race before…so crossing my fingers all goes well!! Dinner + Icecream = Magic 🙂

    • Caitlin February 27, 2011, 10:52 am

Oh good luck! Please let me know how it goes.

  • Kara February 27, 2011, 7:10 am

I’m totally antsy for my marathon to just get here already! It’s two weeks away and I’m just tired of thinking about it and wondering if I can do it and I want it to just be a memory so I can focus on my next running challenges!

  • megan @ blackberries for jam February 27, 2011, 8:12 am

I’m *pretty sure* I’m going to sign up for the Vermont City Marathon in May. I’m just waiting to see if it conflicts with vacation planning. I ran a half in the fall and maintained that mileage base, and I’m so excited to work towards the full 26.2!

  • Kierstan @ Life {and running} in Iowa February 27, 2011, 8:31 am

With all this speed work I am doing for my marathon training, I am really looking forward to my first 5K of the season. Now, if my pesky knee would just feel better…

  • chelsey @ clean eating chelsey February 27, 2011, 8:31 am

I am just incredibly antsy for spring to be here already. I’m so sick of winter!!

  • Susan February 27, 2011, 8:46 am

I’m doing the National Half Marathon also. I signed up for it last year but found out I was pregnant about a couple of months before the race. This year, my training has not been going as planned with two little ones but I’m doing the best I can and not putting any pressure on myself to achieve a certain time…just finish and have fun!

    • Caitlin February 27, 2011, 10:56 am

Wow that is incredible! How inspiring that you’re already back to running such long distances so fast. 🙂 You will have to join us for the meet up (Details are forthcoming!).

  • Cara February 27, 2011, 8:57 am

I haven’t signed up for any races yet, but I am getting super antsy to do one! I need to find some!

  • Natalia - a side of simple February 27, 2011, 9:47 am

I don’t think going out for desserts should ever count for eat-in-challenge 😉 especially when a sprinkle cone is involved.

  • Kelly meatlesswithaman.blogspot.com February 27, 2011, 9:48 am

Mmmm bonnaroo buzz! We WENT to bonnaroo last summer and were among the first to try that delicious flavor. YUM!

  • Kristy February 27, 2011, 9:53 am

Hi Caitlin! I’m doing a fun 5K next week with a bunch of running friends and then the Providence, RI Marathon in May. I’m really looking forward to both races as I haven’t raced since last November. I love nights that consist of staying in and relaxing.

  • Caitlyn (A Spoonful of Life) February 27, 2011, 9:57 am

I’m going to be running the Country Music 1/2 Marathon on April 30!! I’m itching to run this race! I start my official training this week and couldn’t be more excited.

Ice cream does not violate the Eat-In Challenge. You still had dinner at home, so that counts!

  • Jennifer February 27, 2011, 10:01 am

I have a 1/2 marathon next weekend and a 30km race at the end of the month. I haven’t been able to train as much as I would have liked, but I’m eager to get to the 1/2, just to see where I’m at for the 30 km.

  • Allison @ Happy Tales February 27, 2011, 10:02 am

Man oh man, that is one pretty icecream cone!!! I’m getting excited for my upcoming race (Flying Pig, May 1st)… not antsy yet, I still have a whole lot of long runs ahead of me… the longest one I’ve done is only 15 miles! Have a 16 miler this coming weekend, though

    • Caitlin February 27, 2011, 10:56 am

Oh I didn’t know you were doing Flying Pig. Awesome. We should do some long runs together!

  • Fallon February 27, 2011, 10:27 am

Ice cream out is a treat!! I don’t believe that is bending any eat-in challenge rules. It wasn’t a meal. Plus keeping ice cream in the house could be very dangerous, going out is so much more enjoyable!

  • Camille February 27, 2011, 10:43 am

I have a half marathon next weekend that I am really excited for! Admittedly, I am not trained up for it, but I have a feeling everything will work out fine. 🙂

  • Amber K February 27, 2011, 11:14 am

Ice cream is the best thing to bend the rules for 🙂

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin February 27, 2011, 12:47 pm

Ice cream shouldn’t count as eating out, just like coffee shouldn’t! 😉

  • Holly February 27, 2011, 1:41 pm

I’m ready for the Cherry Blossom 10M in DC to be here! I registered for the lottery back in December, got in and than have been waiting!! I’m running a 10K the middle of March and than my first 1/2 M at the end of April. Hopefully I won’t burn myself out by than!

  • Lauren February 27, 2011, 4:07 pm

You guys look so nice in your little family picture! 🙂 And umm, that ice cream? Definitely worth breaking the Eat-in rules 🙂

  • Effie February 27, 2011, 5:18 pm

I’m running the CHerry Blossom 10M in DC, awesome race by the way and then doing a half in May followed by the marine corps marathon in october.

  • Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) February 27, 2011, 9:07 pm

Mmmm, that is a cone!!! I had a mini blizzard today – I adore blizzards 🙂
