I usually pop in on Mondays with a fun recap of our weekend, but this weekend was anything but fun. In fact, it was pretty dreadful.  I hate to vent (because who wants to read a vent?!) but please… let me vent.

Wednesday – Experienced middle-of-the-night severe stomach pains.

Thursday – Realized that I actually dislocated a rib while hunching over due to said severe stomach pains (yes, apparently, you can do this).

Friday – Got my rib popped back into place (fun) and went home, only to discover that I was developing a breast infection.  Never had one before – it sucked.

Saturday – Our air conditioning blew and temperatures upstairs climbed to 90 degrees.

Sunday – I suffered through the effects of a healing rib, a throbbing boob, and a million degree house.

I felt like I was getting nailed right and left with shitty things – and a lot of it was incredibly physically painful.  I learned by Friday morning not to joke, “At least it can’t get any worse!” because apparently it could.  THANK GOD for a husband who totally stepped up and entertained the kids and pets all weekend long while I tried to rest (as well as helpful friends and family who also pitched in).

So here’s what I’m thinking.  This weekend was bad, but it really could’ve been worse, right? A lot worse.  And now it’s Monday.  A fresh start.  A clean slate.  After five days of moaning and groaning, sweating and complaining, and feeling like I was barely scrapping by, I’m ready for a more positive outlook.  I’m not 100% yet in the slightest (this breast infection still sucks even though I’m medicated), but I’m thinking that things have to improve.

Goals for the Week:

Get better.

Drink water.

Slowly resume exercise.

Eat something besides frozen pizza and cereal.

Get back on track with household chores and tasks.

Focus on the good.  There’s so much good!

Like, for example, HENRY!  Guess who celebrated his last day of ‘school’ on Friday?  Here’s a comparison of Day 1 v. the Final Day:

No idea if this could help you, but better to tell you in case it does, right? My mom was an LLL leader and she’s always told me that if you have a breast infection or feel like one might be starting, point your nursling’s nose towards the most uncomfortable spot on your breast. (For example, side-lying nursing points their nose towards the top of your breast, while cradle hold points it towards the side.) No idea why this might work, but it has always helped me.

In any case, I hope you get all better quickly — and your attitude is totally inspiring! 🙂

Mastitis is awful. So painful. I read it is a sign that you’re doing too much and you’re body is run down; thus more susceptible to inflammation. Make sure to rest! Of all the remedies I tried for clogged ducts and mastitis, rest was the best.

wow. I have a friend who got mastitis 4 times in a row. She met with an lc and ever since has not had that anymore! Her dr told her that when she gets clogged to nurse on all fours and that also helped!

Been there, done that =( In the last two weeks, our AC quit, our refrigerator has required repair (and since then we’re now buying a new one), I got a nail in my tire & had to have it replaced, our dryer started acting up, work has been horrendous…I need to hit the refresh button, too!

  • Kate @KateMovingForward June 1, 2015, 2:37 pm

You poor thing!! “Eat something besides frozen pizza and cereal”–this is why I love you–thanks for keeping it real!

  • Katie June 1, 2015, 2:59 pm

Oh, my gosh, I’m so sorry! I popped a rib last year, and it was seriously painful. Mine was in the front by my breastbone, and it hurt to laugh or breathe deeply until it popped back into place when I was stretching a few days later. I hate to say that it has bothered me from time to time ever since (1.5 years). But I stretch the area regularly, which has really helped. I did it at a Body Pump class that I went to on Presidents Day, thinking I was being all good going to a class in the middle of a holiday but regretting it many times later on 🙂 I hope your week is MUCH better than your weekend.

  • Julia @ Lord Still Loves Me June 1, 2015, 8:07 pm

Hey- we all need to vent sometimes! I hope this week is much BETTER for you! Sounds like it was a taxing few days, but I have hope things will begin to take a turn uphill soon.

  • Emily J June 1, 2015, 9:04 pm

Go ahead and vent! Hope you’re feeling better soon. Take it easy!

  • Nadia June 1, 2015, 9:48 pm

Try some raw garlic for the mastitis. You’ll stink, but it really helps. I used to chew 2-3 cloves a day, and it went away.

  • Abby June 1, 2015, 9:57 pm

You can vent anytime! yikes that’s a lot all at once! Get rest and have a good week.

  • jenny June 2, 2015, 12:40 pm

Thanks for sharing! Internet lives can look so perfect that venting every now and again helps you seem real. Hope things are getting better!

  • kathy June 2, 2015, 10:46 pm

Whew, that sounds exhausting and zero percent fun. Did you ever figure out what the stomach pains were that started the whole ball rolling?
