Sore Sunday

in All Posts

I hope everyone is having a nice Sunday!  My Sunday is… sore.  My legs are killin’ me after yesterday’s triathlon (thanks for all the supportive comments; you sure know how to make a woman smile).  After the race, I tried to sneak in a nap when Henry slept, but I could only squeeze in two quick 20 minute sessions – better than nothing!  I ended up crashing hard later in the evening and fell into a deep, dreamless sleep… until the baby squirmed.  Winking smile

Breakfast:

It’s gloriously cool outside this morning.  Could autumn be right around the corner?

One of the Husband’s patients is an Arbonne representation and gave him a sample of their vegan protein shake.  It is so tasty – the vanilla flavor tastes like birthday cake.  I couldn’t find any of the nutritional information online, but I think it has 20 grams of pea protein.  I’m curious about the sugar content, though, because it was way too yummy to be super healthy.

In the blender:

Protein powder

Soy milk

Frozen strawberries

Glob of peanut butter

On the agenda today:  yard work, groceries, scrubbing off the black permanent marker race numbers on my thighs and arms (do I have to?! I kind of want to keep the numbers on as long as possible…).

I think they use stevia as a sweetener 🙂

Congrats again on the race! I think I know what you mean when you say you want to keep the race numbers on. 🙂 Enjoy your Sunday with your family!

Congrats on completing the race! That’s a huge accomplishment and I’m really in awe of how determined you were to do it. It’s really inspiring that you were able to stay so positive about the whole experience, even though you said you had faster times and what not. I think that’s an important lesson. I’m trying hard to come into my own exercise routine that works for me and my recovery, but it’s challenging to not be harsh and judgmental when I can’t just get out of the house and have enough stamina to run or do intense cardio for more than 15 minutes. I guess it takes time and patience right?

    Have a good sunday!

You are so kickass, it’s not even funny. The epitome of I am woman, hear me roar. Keep rockin it girl 🙂

Great job on the tri yesterday! I have some arbonne protein powder at home and yes it has 20g of protein(pea, rice and cranberry). As for your question on sugar, it has 9g in a serving (42g) so it has some sugar cane, but also has stevia extract. Thoughts on that amount of sugar? I’ve never compared protein powders.

Can you taste the PB when you put it in a smoothie? Haha I’ve always wanted to try but I love it too much and I’m afraid I’ll be “wasting” my PB by putting it a smoothie and then not tasting it! Have you tried other nut butters?

      Hi Katie,
I can most definitely taste the peanut butter in my smoothies. Chocolate, Peanut butter banana is my favorite!!

I like your shake recipe, but I`m not sure I am getting the whole protein powder. I guess I just have a bad image of this in the back of my head. But I should just read more about them and find out a little more.
Do you always use some extra proteins in your shakes?

Mmmm a protein smoothie sounds delicious!! I may have to have one later this afternoon. 🙂

Arbonne protein is pea, cranberry, and rice. 20g of protein per serving (42g), 160 calories, 3g fat, 1g fiber, 9g sugar. Ingredients for vanilla are: Arbonne Protein Matrix Blena, sugar can, sunflower oil, natural vanilla flavor, corn starch, inulin, xanthan gum, flax seed, stevia leaf extract, gum acacia, guar gum.

I LOVE their chocolate protein powder but find the vanilla to be a bit too sweet for me (gasp!). I don’t love how expensive it is though and that it has very little fiber. They have a seperate fiber booster you can buy but it doesn’t agree with me and is an extra expense. My aunt sells Arbonne so I can sometimes get a discount and the last time I ordered, I got an entire bag (30 servings?) free! Congrats on the tri!

I think it’s pretty understandable that you’re sore after completing a triathlon so soon after having a baby! I think most moms wouldn’t even be exercising at this point.

It’s interesting that Arbonne uses pea protein — that sounds like a good option for people with allergies. (I don’t know much about protein powders, but I’ve started looking into them a bit.) Sounds a bit sweet, though.

I have been following your blog for a couple of years now (always enjoying every minute!) and I have to say that the picture from your triathlon yesterday (great job, by the way!) of you standing in the water before the start of the race is one of the best pictures of you! Here’s why I like it, it’s REAL. You’re 10 weeks post baby, and not afraid to show a picture of yourself, despite the fact that you might not be where you wish you were right now in terms of weight. But the thing about it, is that I don’t know more than a small handful of women who actually ARE comfortable with their weight (being post baby or not!)!! I hate it when all these women on the healthy living blogs are a size 2 and always looking adorable, because that’s just not the way life works! So thank you, Caitlyn, for always having such a great attitude and helping us self-conscious women be more comfortable in our own skin!

I completely agree with this comment!!! My babe was born the exact same day as yours and I am unhappy with the photos that are taken of me and don’t like to show them and a few of the blogs that I follow they are always so chipper and soooo tiny and even some of the ones that have popped out a baby are once again so slim. As much as I know you take each day as it is and hopefully not compare, I love seeing it like this so that I also don’t get into a wee bit depression because my body still doesn’t look like it did prior to my bundle of joy.

i always keep the race numbers!
at my first tri, all first timers had a mandatory info meeting. and at the meeting the race organizer told us that we should totally keep the numbers as long as possible…except for our age, we were allowed to scrub that one off.

    • Anne Weber-Falk August 26, 2012, 6:40 pm

I say keep ’em on too!

  • Danielle @ LMYR August 26, 2012, 2:45 pm

Caitlin- great job on the race! I can’t imagine doing all that and less than 11 weeks after giving birth! Sorry we never found each other… I felt like I was running around frantically the entire time (you know, going to the bathroom, checking my bike, going to the bathroom again…). I think you finished a few minutes before me but by the time I caught my breath and looked around, I couldn’t find you. Oh well, next time =)

    Again, great job!!

  • Ash Bear August 26, 2012, 6:28 pm

They have 9 grams of sugar in a pack of the protein powder!

  • Sam @ Better With Sprinkles August 26, 2012, 7:05 pm

Amazing job on the race – you should be incredibly proud of yourself! Not many people would even think about any sort of race 10-11 weeks postbaby, but to do a triathlon? So inspiring.

  • Dani @ Dani, Redesigned August 26, 2012, 7:19 pm

Oooh, I love Arbonne’s stuff. Their face stuff is great. I got a little goodie bag from my coworker’s girlfriend who sells it, and she gave me some energy fizzers, face lotion, shake mix, and I think lip balm. Was all great stuff!

On another note, I say keep the numbers. I kept my first race bib on after the race and went and ate with it on. I was proud of it, and people congratulated me on my race too. Ive actually never worn that shirt again; I kept the bib pinned to it and put it up.

Speaking of sugar content, my sugar monsters are rearing their heads this week! Did you ever figure out a good way to keep it under control? I think I’m just busy and stressed right now and need to focus on eating healthy food and not comforting myself with sweets… so much harder to do than say, though!

  • Steph @ A Life without Ice Cream August 27, 2012, 11:35 am

Reading this post and the tri post – you’re my hero! Really, awesome job on the momma tri! And as always, thanks for being so candid about your experience.

A friend of mine just started selling Arbonne and I ordered some of those protein packs… am waiting on the pkg in the mail and hearing that they’re super tasty just got me excited to try them!
