Wag More

in All Posts

I am going to take some of my own advice about accountability and create a star chart – but just for James.  I realized last night that I’ve been seriously slacking on taking him for long walks since we got a fenced-in yard, and it’s showing all over him.  The Hus took James to the vet over the weekend, and the vet told him that James needs to drop some weight.  I can tell he’s getting bored, too – he shredded the face off his favorite stuffed animal yesterday.  So – star chart it is!  My goal?  One long walk with Jimmers everyday.

… Until I deliver, that is.  And then someone else is going to temporarily have to take over doggie duty.

You’re thinking:   But what about Maggie?! Doesn’t she need long walks, too?

This is what happens when Maggie comes on a long walk with us.

If Maggie would talk, she would say in a snotty voice, “Carry me, stupid human.”

Breakfast:

More of that sunflower seed-battered French toast. SO GOOD.

With melon. Even better.

that french toast looks delicious! i also take decapitated stuffed animals as a sign that the pups could use some exercise 🙂

I really can not get enough of your dog stories. I say it every time but I just love them! Esp when you do pretend Maggie thoughts/voices. I want to meet her IRL!!!

That picture of Maggie is funny. My inlaws had an Australian Shepherd that would simply lay down on the sidewalk when he had had enough (which was usually about three minutes in).

Lol – one of the 2 dogs we had when I was growing up was of ‘the Maggie mindset’. A walk meant I walked with her in my arms. James is going to be a happy puppy soon!

Hey Caitlin , I recommend this toy for James
    http://www.thepawshaveit.com/product/CNP

My dog trainer recommended it. At first I felt like I was a cat owner purchasing this, but it works GREAT. I use this on rainy days when I want to get their energy out. Since James is relatively small, he will get tired quickly. The best part is that it requires not much work from you, just swinging the toy around and making him chase it. You can probably even do it while holding a baby! You can find it in most pet stores, not necessary to order it online.

That is so cool. I’m not sure if James would use it though. he’s kind of weird about toys.

I really need to do the same thing for my Oliver…At 50lbs, he’s got a lot of energy by the end of the day…A start chart it is!

  • Sana May 17, 2012, 12:51 pm

I feel like I could tell Maggie all my deep dark secrets and she would judge me. <3 her!

Awww haha love maggie! It’s just too much for her little legs!

Seriously I love your pups. Maggie is hilarious!

My aunt is a dog trainer and she calls these daily walks “reading the paper” because it’s just as good for them mentally!

My weiner dog Squirt can only walk .5-1.0 miles a day! Otherwise he puts on the brakes and refuses to move. It’s kind of disturbing how difficult it is to move him if he doesn’t want to =)

  • Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed May 17, 2012, 1:29 pm

Yes, you can definitely tell when our pup hasn’t gotten her exercise, she’s just in your face so much its overwhelming… time for a walk!

  • Julie H. of Spinach and Sprinkles May 17, 2012, 1:40 pm

I swear our animals must really be thinking some of those kinds of thoughts- ‘carry me, stupid human’ 🙂 ….Enjoy your last few weeks of pregnancy!

  • Sarah May 17, 2012, 1:42 pm

Sounds like what you need is a double stroller. One spot for Baby Boyle and one for “baby” Maggie!

  • Annette@FitnessPerks May 17, 2012, 1:47 pm

    Hah. Love it!

  • Alex @ Raw Recovery May 17, 2012, 2:21 pm

Can you please write your next book from Maggie’s perspective 🙂 I love it when Maggie talks

  • ash May 17, 2012, 2:31 pm

So cute, when my doxie is done walking she rolls around on her back, on the pavement, grass, middle of the road-doesn’t matter!

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin May 17, 2012, 4:44 pm

Haha that picture of you with Maggie reminds me of our neighbour who goes on a walk with his dog every morning, but he carries him the whole way! It’s so cute! 😀

  • Lexi @ You, Me, & A World to See May 17, 2012, 4:59 pm
