Pooch and Nooch

It’s a lazy morning over here.

Eventually, I will peel myself out from under these puppies and off the couch.  I swear.

We saw an incredible movie last night – Like Crazy.  The ending is rather ambiguous, and I can see why many moviegoers would hate that, but the more and more I think about the plot (an American and British college student fall in love but are separated when she violates her visa), the more I like the movie. The plot explores the notion that if you are truly and madly in love, it doesn’t matter what happens or what you do to each other, you can always come back to together (or can you?).  Definitely one of those movies that kept me thinking long after I left the theatre.

I stayed up way too late last night (anything past 10:30 PM, and BabyHTP makes me pay for it in the morning), so breakfast was more like a brunch  A very, very delicious brunch.

Have you added nutritional yeast (nooch) to scrambled eggs?  Do it now!

Nooch is a deactivated yeast that is a complete source of protein and a good source of B-Vitamins.  It adds a cheesy or nutty taste to foods (and is a key ingredient in my beloved Mmmm Sauce). You can find it in the bulk foods section of most health stores.

I think I could eat eggs and toast every meal for the rest of my life.  Truly.

your ‘thought of the day’ is exactly what I needed to hear today! THANK YOU 🙂

    • Ari @ Ari's Menu November 20, 2011, 11:20 am

      My thoughts exactly. 🙂

      • Ali November 20, 2011, 12:00 pm

I feel the same way. Thank you!

  • Army Amy* November 20, 2011, 10:54 am

I tend to like movies with ambiguous endings. They make you think more! I recently saw The Messenger (about soliders who notify familes that their loved ones died in combat). It has me thinking still days later.*

  • Sana November 20, 2011, 10:59 am

🙂 We all love our selves too much so we are hard on ourselves!

  • Amanda November 20, 2011, 10:59 am

Your dogs are so adorable. I love that photo of Maggie – she seems like quite the character!

Your quote of the day is definitely something I need to be reminded of every so often. Thanks. 🙂

  • Sarena (The Non Dairy Queen) November 20, 2011, 11:06 am

Now that’s a great thought for the day! I too think I could live on eggs with nooch! I used to hate it, but now I’m addicted. I guess there are worse things to be addicted to.

The movie sounds interesting. I love movies that make you think afterwards. It’s weird when they actually make you have an emotion about something that you wouldn’t normally go along with. We watched The Green Mile with the boys last night and they couldn’t stop talking about the way the characters made them feel. You are going to love being a parent! I love discussing stuff like this with my boys and it’s weird that they are only 10 and 13 and can already talk about things on this level.

Enjoy your day and good luck getting out from under the pups.

  • kena November 20, 2011, 11:13 am

Hi…you have really cute pups! I really enjoy your blog! Have a happy Sunday!

  • Rachel November 20, 2011, 11:17 am

    Your dogs are simply adorable!

  • Fiona November 20, 2011, 11:19 am

I saw Like Crazy a couple of weeks ago and I was still thinking about it earlier this morning. I really loved it! It made me both sad and eager to run away with my boyfriend and elope! 🙂

  • faith November 20, 2011, 11:26 am

Yes! Nutritional yeast in eggs is awesome!

  • Liz @ Tip Top Shape November 20, 2011, 11:28 am

I really want to see Like Crazy! All of the commercials have been making it look fantastic! I’ll have to try nooch on my eggs soon! Can you believe I’ve had it in my pantry for months and have yet to use it??

  • Sophie @ threetimesf November 20, 2011, 11:40 am

Oooh, I can’t wait to see that film! 🙂

  • kathleen @ the daily crumb November 20, 2011, 11:43 am

eggs + toast is one of my favorite lazy breakfasts.

i have seen the previews for that movie and it looks very good. trying to find it in a theatre around us! have a great day 🙂

  • Jules November 20, 2011, 11:51 am

NUTRITIONAL YEAST WARNING: If you have never tried it before, proceed with caution (try just a tiny bit and wait awhile to see how you feel). It is essentially a fungus and certain bodies (e.g. mine) can violently reject it. After eating it in Mmmm Sauce (per Caitlin’s recipe), my whole body felt burning hot, as if trying to fight off whatever had attacked it, and I was terribly nauseous for 48 hours.

Not chuggin’ that Haterade, Caitlin, but just trying to warn unsuspecting nutritional yeast consumers.

    • CaitlinHTP November 20, 2011, 11:54 am

OMGGGGGGGGGGGG That is horrible!!!! You must’ve been allergic. So scary!

  • Khushboo November 20, 2011, 11:52 am

That’s exactly how I feel about yogurt messes and cereal—> I would be happy eating it for every single meal!

  • jen November 20, 2011, 12:58 pm

i ran my slowest half today. i’ve been beating myself up since mile 7 or multiple reasons. that’s for the little reminder to be kind…to me.

    • CaitlinHTP November 21, 2011, 10:08 am

Think of it this way – you got your money’s worth per minute 🙂 Congrats on your half!

  • Kelly November 20, 2011, 1:00 pm

Okay, I read that as “hooch” – as in you added hooch to your eggs. Now, THAT would get your Sunday going…! Ha.

  • Molly @RDexposed November 20, 2011, 1:04 pm

I love when doggie ears get flipped back!

  • Molly November 20, 2011, 1:07 pm

After succumbing to binges nightly, no exercise ever, and additional poor choices: I’ll try to remember that quote. It seems the only way to make it through each day.

  • Amber K November 20, 2011, 1:21 pm

Thank you so much for that thought of the day. It was perfect. And I need to eat more nutritional yeast, because it rocks.

  • Mel @ MelRuns November 20, 2011, 1:47 pm

I just sprinkled some nooch all over steamed cauliflower with tomato sauce. #winning.

I just wrote a post that made me think of you, and might make you smile: http://melruns.com/2011/11/good-morning/

Have a great rest of the day!

  • Amy November 20, 2011, 2:08 pm

I saw Like Crazy last night too. At first, I was not that content with the ending, but the movie has stuck with me all day today. The more I think about it, the more I really like it! 🙂

  • Amanda November 20, 2011, 2:24 pm

I really needed that “quote of the day,” thanks! I ran a 5k last night, and my time was a lot slower than last time. I’ve been strugging with feelings of disappointment 🙁

    • CaitlinHTP November 21, 2011, 10:12 am

Don’t forget that so much goes into a race time – the course, how you feel that day. You’re pretty epic just for getting out there and doing it!

  • Faith @ For the Health of it November 20, 2011, 3:02 pm

I’m totally stealing that motto for today!

  • Lisa (bakebikeblog) November 20, 2011, 3:32 pm

I know what you mean re pregnancy and sleep! If I am up past 10.00pm – I pay for it for days!!!

  • Jamie @ Food in Real Life November 20, 2011, 3:53 pm

I wish I liked nooch- but I think it tastes like fish food! Blech!

  • Tracy @ Tracy's Treats November 20, 2011, 4:03 pm

That looks like the perfect breakfast to me!

  • Laura @ She Eats Well November 20, 2011, 4:24 pm

I need to remember your thought of the day, everyday!

And nutritional yeast is so so good! Especially with eggs or on top of tomato soup! Yum.

  • Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife November 20, 2011, 4:27 pm

I love NOOCH in eggs!! SO tasty.

Get some good rest–it is the weekend after all 🙂

  • Julia H. @ The Petite Spiel November 20, 2011, 4:48 pm

Hmm, I’ve never heard of that movie…maybe I’ll check it out, though!
And those raspberries look so good. I’ve been on a major raspberry kick lately. I pop them in my mouth like candy!

  • Kristina @ spabettie November 20, 2011, 5:04 pm

sweetest pups! I don’t know how many photos I’ve taken of Basil’s feet…

I held up my laptop with Maggie’s photo to Basil and said “Maggie says hello!” … Basil thumped his tail… 🙂

  • Jessica November 20, 2011, 6:19 pm

Have you read Little Bee by Chris Cleave? I just finished and I can’t stop thinking about it!

    • CaitlinHTP November 21, 2011, 10:12 am

Yes! I love that book. It’s so good.

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin November 20, 2011, 6:20 pm

I’ve never added nooch to scrambled eggs, but I’ve used it in scrambled tofu. It’s delicious!

  • audrey November 20, 2011, 6:43 pm

Never commented before, but I just have to say that thought of the day was perfect timing for me. And what my best friends have been telling me all weekend. Think the universe is trying to say something!

    • CaitlinHTP November 21, 2011, 10:12 am

      Me too 🙂

  • Constance Blizzard November 20, 2011, 6:50 pm

A tip: nutritional yeast on popcorn, foregoing salt. I’m salivating all over the place just thinking about it.

  • Courtney @ The Petite AthlEAT November 20, 2011, 8:03 pm

I used to LOVE brewer’s yeast on my popcorn, it makes it taste all cheesy! It’s also really good mixed with pasta and pea protein, it makes a cheesy, protein macaroni!

  • CJ @ http://healthy-happy-whole.com/ November 20, 2011, 8:05 pm

Thank you for the thought of the day! I totally needed that 🙂

  • Niki (Running In Pink) November 20, 2011, 8:24 pm

What are you doing watching any other movie this weekend other than Breaking Dawn?? I’ve been waiting to hear your thoughts on it! 🙂

    • CaitlinHTP November 21, 2011, 10:14 am

I need to see it! Did you? Did you like it?

      • Niki (Running In Pink) November 21, 2011, 10:24 pm

Yes! I saw it Friday night. I was super nervous how it would turn out with how crazy the plot is, but I was surprised how much I really loved it. I’m actually dying to see it again! Also, seeing The Hunger Games trailer on the big screen was a major plus!

  • chelsey @ clean eating chelsey November 20, 2011, 8:46 pm

I always need the “don’t be so hard on yourself” reminder! I’m the worst!

  • Jenifer November 20, 2011, 9:04 pm

BAHHHHHHHHHHHH… that is the sound of me bursting into tears over the don’t be so hard on yourself comment. For the last 8 months or so, I have been working 6 days a week, 10-12 hour days, then coming home, being a wife, a mother, and all that falls in between. I have forgotten how to be a friend… and I am blessed to say that my friends.. have put up with it. I finally had a melt down in the parking lot of Kroger today.. ( I called in sick.. I just mentally could not face work today)ove the fact that my Sunday paper did not have coupons in it. I realized that I wasn’t really making any headway at all working all of the extra b/c we were spending that money eating out because I was too tired to face making dinner. And that the person who had complemented me on having such a heavy work ethic.. had worked similar hours and ways… the result?? Her husband had an affair, and she ended up in the hospital for exhaustion.
I’m most certainly not trying to unload here… just that the comment really hit me clear in the face. I was upset, because I felt like I couldn’t “do it all”.. I was… “being too hard on myself”.

    • CaitlinHTP November 21, 2011, 10:14 am

Aww you poor thing. Just focus on doing what makes you happy. You can’t do everything. And you shouldn’t!!

PS – Fuck coupons for making you cry.

      • Jenifer November 22, 2011, 8:42 pm

Lol.. ok Momma, I had to laugh at that. : )

  • Joy @ The Joy Vey November 20, 2011, 9:50 pm

I’m a HUGE nooch fan and am almost ashamed that I never thought to put it on eggs! (Going back to re-read that part about not being so hard on myself…). The BF doesn’t understand my love affair with it, but he accepts it. I hope this won’t push it over the edge! 😉

  • Gabby November 20, 2011, 10:36 pm

You know what else is so much better with nooch?
    BROCCOLI 🙂
I want a dachshund so badly after seeing your adorable pooches everyday…make that two dachshunds!

  • Mandy November 20, 2011, 11:09 pm

When I was in my first trimester, I was obsessed with eggs! I ate fried eggs every day for weeks on end. So excited to follow your journey! It’s the best blessing in the whole world. Hugs!

  • skinnyrunner November 21, 2011, 9:02 am

so i have a huge container of nooch and never know what to put it on bc i dont like the taste. good idea!

  • Irina G (Fit Flexitarian) November 21, 2011, 12:47 pm

Love the thought of the day! I try to remind myself of that EVERY day, actually.

Glad to hear you loved Like Crazy! I’ve actually been wanting to see this movie for a while, so thinking maybe I’ll tackle that this week.

Your brunch sounds yummy, but have you tried adding quinoa to eggs? I did it this weekend and it turned out SO yummy. Plus it gave me a TON of energy and I was able to tackle a massive organizing/cleaning of my apartment.

    • Caitlin November 21, 2011, 4:49 pm

Do you add dry quinoa or cooked quinoa?
