Gloves Required

We have a costume party to attend tonight.  We seriously considered going as Santa and an elf.

… But opted for something else.  It’s a good one!

Before costume-hunting, Nicole and I went for a long run (well, long for me, these days!).  We did 4.5 – 5 miles, walk/run style.  I was pretty proud of myself, even though I really struggled towards the end and had to take more and more breaks.  Mileage is mileage!

I had to laugh when Nicole showed up at my house because she was decked out in long sleeves and gloves.  We have a running joke (ha!) about how I dress like it’s 20 degrees colder than she does.  If she’s in shorts and a tee, I’m in fleece pants and a long-sleeve jacket.  What can I say?  I’m from Miami!

Anyway, imagine my surprise when she showed up, dressed like it was snowing.  I stared at her and said, “Do I need gloves, too?”  And she just looked at me like, Dude, if I’m wearing gloves, you should wear a parka.

Gloves were nice.  It was chilly!

Post-run snack of goat cheese + hummus sandwich with an apple:

And Lunch #2 consisted of these AMAZING dairy-free, gluten-free enchiladas from Trader Joe’s:

So delicious.  Loved the sauce.

With steamed kale on the side:

Gotta go work on my costume.  Hint:  It involves pulling my wedding dress out of the attic (I threw it in a garbage bag on our wedding night, and that’s how it’s been stored for the last 3 years… Whoops).

you threw it in a garbage bag?! haha… i actually kind of love that. i mean, it is just a dress… my mom insisted i press and preserve mine (seemed pointless to me!)

oh man, you would need an insulated body suit if you ever went running in chicago during the winter!

    • Caitlin November 6, 2011, 7:10 pm

      It’s just a dress 🙂 You’re right!

  • HTPDad November 5, 2011, 5:07 pm

  • Ann @ Turbo Teacher November 5, 2011, 5:39 pm

Very excited for the wedding dress!!!

  • katie @ KatieDid November 5, 2011, 5:47 pm

I went for a run today and wish I wore gloves, ouch! I always tend to over dress but today I made the mistake of under dressing. Neither are fun.

Wedding dress…something to do with Kim Kardashian, maybe? Either way, I can’t wait to see! And you should include the picture of you guys as Katy Perry and Russel Brand just because it’s amazing. 🙂

    • Amanda November 5, 2011, 8:45 pm

That was my first thought too! Something to do with Kim Kardashian would be hilarious.

  • Katie @ Peace Love and Oats November 5, 2011, 6:04 pm

I’ve seen those enchiladas at Trader Joe’s, good to know you enjoyed them!

  • Sophie @ threetimesf November 5, 2011, 6:06 pm

Haha I am always the friend that dresses as if it’s the middle of Summer, even at Christmas!

Beautiful photos from your run 🙂

  • Penny November 5, 2011, 6:22 pm

Those enchiladas have been a fav of mine forever, they’re perfect for a quickie meal!

The enchiladas look AMAZING and delicious. I actually love the tamales from TJs. Got some today as a matter of fact ;). Never tried the enchiladas but I will one of these days! Have fun tonight 🙂

  • Julia H. @ The Petite Spiel November 5, 2011, 7:29 pm

I’ve never run in the cold before, but have been dying to run outside lately (and it’s getting chilly here!). Any tips?

Also, I really hope you’re not wearing your wedding dress as part of your costume! I’d be afraid to get it dirty!!

    • Caitlin November 6, 2011, 7:09 pm

It was already so dirty. Ha! The hem was black from dancin’ all night long.

  • Gina @ Running to the Kitchen November 5, 2011, 7:32 pm

I just saw your tweet about the wedding dress + dog walking. Can’t wait to see these pictures! Mine is still in my parents house, with all the stains (red wine was spilled all over me the last 10 minutes of the reception) 5 years later…

  • Jamie@ everydaydolce November 5, 2011, 7:41 pm

Awesome job on your run this morning! I LOVE those enchiladas from TJ’s, I get them almost every time I go, they make a perfect lunch 🙂
Here’s an article I thought you’d find interesting on female distance running: http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/7188499/the-rise-female-distance-runner

    • Caitlin November 6, 2011, 7:09 pm

That is VERY interesting. Thanks for passing that along.

  • Alexis November 5, 2011, 7:43 pm

Kate Middleton and Prince William?? That is definitely the most popular couple costume for this year!

  • Rachel November 5, 2011, 7:57 pm

your wedding dress was in a GARBAGE BAG!?!?! oy vey, Catilin…

    • Caitlin November 6, 2011, 7:08 pm

I was too cheap to get it preserved!

  • Wendy November 5, 2011, 8:32 pm

This is mostly unrelated to your post, but I have a fun use for my wedding dress – every few years I have my daughter’s picture taken in it. A friend just did some for me a couple weeks ago, check them out:

    • Caitlin November 6, 2011, 7:07 pm

      That is so unbelievable cute!

  • Jen November 5, 2011, 10:04 pm

You guys must be going as Kate and Wills!

  • Stephanie C November 5, 2011, 10:13 pm

I’m from L.A. so if it’s below 75.. I am freezing! Right now it’s been raining and hovering around 60 during the day and 45 at night.. I am very tempted to break out my Italy gloves. I always get made fun of for wearing scarves and coats when everyone else is in sweaters or long sleeves. I also HAVE to take a shower before going to bed to warm my toes or else I’ll freeze all night. This may have something to do with my hypothryoidism 😉
Also, good to know on those Enchiladas.. TJs can be such a hit or miss. Have you tried their coconut milk chocolate ice cream? So looking forward to it during my fast that starts soon!

    • Caitlin November 6, 2011, 7:07 pm

NO! I have never seen that ice cream. I really want to try it.

  • Jen November 5, 2011, 10:26 pm

I can’t wait to see your costume! Dairy-free enchiladas? Wow, wish I had a TJ’s. Amy’s makes them but not DF I don’t think.

Did you take a break from running and are trying to build back up mileage?

    • Caitlin November 6, 2011, 7:06 pm

A bit of a break. Work just got way too intense.

  • Marla November 5, 2011, 11:20 pm

    kate and william…
that will be awesome costume for you two!

  • Khushboo November 6, 2011, 1:09 am

    Kim Kardashian inspired outfit???

  • Ashley @ Cooking for John November 6, 2011, 9:31 am

    Loooove those enchiladas! 🙂

  • Kristina November 6, 2011, 2:40 pm

You love daylight savings in the spring? Or falling back to standard time in the fall?

    • Caitlin November 6, 2011, 7:05 pm

I love an extra hour of sleep 🙂

  • Emily November 7, 2011, 10:12 am

Since I have already read your later post, yes, the costumes are good!
But Santa and an elf? AMAZING.
