Brush My Shoulders Off

in All Posts

Hello, hello.  Can you believe it’s already Tuesday?  That much closer to Thanksgiving.  So excited.  Unleash me on the dessert table.

IMG_1956

But until then, I’m just trying to get through work.  I’ve got a bunch of freelance writing projects due in early December and am trying to make a dent in my workload before my family arrives for the holiday.  I have a feeling that worker bees around America are doing the exact same thing today (and tomorrow) – trying to work with one eye on the clock.  Let the holidays begin!

Breakfast:

IMG_4500

Totally overcooked the eggs.  Still tasty.

And lunch:

IMG_4504

I’ve waxed poetic about it before – but Trader Joe’s really makes the best vegetarian enchiladas.  I’ve got a big stash in the freezer for days that I don’t feel like cooking.  Especially tasty with steamed greens.

IMG_4509

Gonna make a pumpkin smoothie to take to Girls on the Run.

And guess what?

I made it to the pool today!  That’s twice during Week 10.  I am so proud.  I really believe you should allow yourself to feel proud for reaching fitness goals, no matter how small… and today, I am really proud of myself!  Go, me!

IMG_5760

I really need a new swim cap.  I’ve misplaced my awesome silver one (and my favorite goggles) and have been stuck using a crappy old race cap (and my back-up goggles).  I really don’t know how I can lose my cap and goggles in a 1,000 sq. ft. apartment, but I’ve torn the place apart and still cannot find my gear.

IMG_6400

I did 1,000 meters today, including 150 meters of kick drills.  I daydreamed of doing another triathlon the entire time.  I have a (not-so-secret now) goal of doing the swim portion of a triathlon while preggers (like my friend Jen did); I just don’t know if it will work out with the seasons and pregnancy timeline.  Maybe for Baby #2?

What fitness goals have you reached in the past seven days?  My buddy Megan crushed her marathon personal record by over an hour!

Congrats Caitlin, that’s awesome! Yesterday I told myself I’d go back to the gym for another quick cardio session after work because I didn’t feel like my morning workout was that great. Although I really really didn’t feel like it after work, I made myself go and after a 30 min run, I felt SO much better! It’s the little things!

  • Army Amy* November 22, 2011, 2:10 pm

My goal right now is to get in all my scheduled runs. Considering how crazy things get during this time of the year, I think that it’s a perfect goal.*

  • Chelsea @ Naturally Sweet Recipes November 22, 2011, 2:10 pm

Yay for TJ’s!! Those look so seriously delicious, and I can’t believe I haven’t even seen them. Gotta go try them, thanks! And good for you for doing that much training and swimming!

  • Claire @ Live and Love to Eat November 22, 2011, 2:15 pm

I haven’t tried those yet (since I already spend way too much money at TJs!) but they look awesome.

  • colleen November 22, 2011, 2:21 pm

My goal was to get back into P90X after taking some weeks off, and I did it yesterday morning. Am paying for it today, but the pain feels good.

  • Laura November 22, 2011, 2:22 pm

I can’t have as many of my awesome TJ’s frozen dinner’s since I’ve gone gluten free 🙁 I actually have to put effort into making food now…

I woke up this morning and realized that I only had to wake up for work one more time this week! Yay!

  • K November 22, 2011, 2:25 pm

Caitlin, you should be proud of yourself! Pregnant or not, the victory over doubt and lethargy is always a sweet one! I don’t know how much I’ve gained since I got pregnant, but I do know that the pool has kept me in great shape and allows me to relate to the baby in the most intimate and fundamental way, as we both float about in our warm pools of water! At the end of my swim, when my lane is usually empty, I love to just float on my back with my ears under water to imagine what the world might sound like to babe. Enjoy every moment!

    • CaitlinHTP November 22, 2011, 4:40 pm

      Yay 🙂 Another pregger swimmer!!

  • kathleen @ the daily crumb November 22, 2011, 2:27 pm

nice job, caitlin!! i made it to yoga 5 times last week which is a huge accomplishment for me. i purchased the monthly unlimited membership which kind of bullies me into going to get my $$’s worth!

food looks delicious… i always overcook my eggs! still tasty, though 🙂

  • Paige (Running Around Normal) November 22, 2011, 2:28 pm

I am definitely keeping one eye on the clock today! Tomorrow I’ve just got 2 morning clients and an evening client, so that aint no thang either 🙂

  • Lindsey Gail November 22, 2011, 2:42 pm

I took a very chilly run in 19*F, frosty weather this morning, my last mileage before a 5K on Thanksgiving. I’m proud and excited to take a day off from running tomorrow, and look forward to all the goodness that Thanksgiving has to offer: running, food, family, and friends.

P.S. I require that my eggs are overcooked, “over hard,” I like to call them.

  • Julie November 22, 2011, 2:50 pm

Glad your week is going quickly! I feel like I have a permanent case of ADD since yesterday. Work has been dragging by and I’m counting down the days until I can be baking and with family!

Btw- good job on the workout today! I agree with being proud of workouts no matter how big or small. I got in some strength training, and was happy to have just completed the workout!

  • Deva @ Deva by Definition November 22, 2011, 2:51 pm

My most recent fitness goal was to run a 5k. I completed that this past Saturday, and am signed up for another one in 3 weeks!

  • Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga November 22, 2011, 3:04 pm

My fitness goals? Just working out and being consistent and doing something at all when life and the preholiday stresses and time pressures are mounting…still making time to work out is something I am happy Ive been able to do.

Glad you got a nice swim in!

  • Katie @ Peace Love and Oats November 22, 2011, 3:05 pm

Awesome for making it to the pool! My fitness goal this week is to take a day OFF. I’ve been really sore and need to take an extra day, I just have a hard time doing it!

  • Angela @ MyPinkyToes November 22, 2011, 3:07 pm

You really are an inspiration for staying fit while pregnant! And an inspiration for swimming in general…I need to get to a pool and just TRY IT!

  • katie @ KatieDid November 22, 2011, 3:10 pm

good for you! I’ve been traveling and just walking so much which I love counting as exercise since its multi tasking. Seeing a new city and getting outside moving.

  • Kat @ Balance & Spice November 22, 2011, 3:18 pm

Yay you!!! I totally forgot about swimming as an option until reading this post – if my hip is still sore tomorrow, I definitely see a swim in my near future! Keep it up, and have fun.

  • Gina @ Running to the Kitchen November 22, 2011, 3:24 pm

I PR’ed in the Philly half marathon! And then came home so excited I signed up for another in less than 2 weeks 🙂

  • Michelle (your girlfriend for fitness) November 22, 2011, 3:25 pm

Are those the TJ’s Roasted Vegetable Enchiladas? I bought that kind last week and was disappointed when I got to work and discovered that they used chicken broth in it. Might not be a deal breaker for you, I hesitantly ate them anyway because it was all I brought to work for lunch. Didn’t occur to me to check the ingredients since it said vegetable on the label. Just a FYI and warning to others because I am starting to notice this in other TJ non-meat products as well. Not sure why they can’t just use vegetable broth when the product doesn’t have meat in it, but it was my fault since it wasn’t labeled as “vegetarian”.

    • CaitlinHTP November 22, 2011, 4:41 pm

No they are not… I double checked because someone else mentioned them. These are the gluten free and dairy free ones. Chicken broth is definitely a deal breaker for me!

      • Michelle (your girlfriend for fitness) November 23, 2011, 12:15 pm

ok, cool… i will definitely have to look out for the ones you have next time… i was not happy about eating the other ones.

  • Jenny November 22, 2011, 3:31 pm

I finally got my butt out of bed at 5:30 to re-start my AM workouts!! weeew

  • Lisa November 22, 2011, 3:54 pm

Did you look in the car for your missing cap and goggles?

    • CaitlinHTP November 22, 2011, 4:41 pm

OOO good idea! I should check under the seats.

  • Caitlin @ Vegetarian in the City November 22, 2011, 3:54 pm

awwww puppy!!!! that is such a cute little pic 🙂

  • Carrie November 22, 2011, 3:55 pm

I was up at 5:00 both Friday and Saturday for a 10 mile run/walk (Fri) and a 23 mile run (Sat). Wasn’t easy, but I did it!

  • Lisa (bakebikeblog) November 22, 2011, 4:13 pm

    Great job on the swim!

  • hark November 22, 2011, 4:15 pm

You don’t need to mention your pregnancy in EVERY post you know. We get it.

  • HTPDad November 22, 2011, 4:27 pm

bet your cap and goggles are at the Y in the lost and found! (or ones close enough…)

  • Katie November 22, 2011, 4:55 pm

I thought I should let you know, the Diva Cup is on http://www.babysteals.com today. The site is worth checking out. Different baby stuff (and diva cups?!?)on sale every day.

    • Caitlin November 22, 2011, 5:24 pm

      Thank you for this link!

  • Hillary November 22, 2011, 5:22 pm

I ran more than five miles for the first time in months. It. Felt. Awesome.

  • Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife November 22, 2011, 5:33 pm

I agree–feeling accomplished in fitness goals feels TOTALLY awesome 🙂

    WAY to go!

I ran at 8.5 mph for more than 1 minute. IT rocked.

  • Lyn November 22, 2011, 5:40 pm

Philly half marathon in 2:03! So happy! 🙂

  • miladybowen@applepommemanzana November 22, 2011, 6:47 pm

I am always losing my running shoes even though I wear them almost every day!!

  • Joelle (On A Pink Typewriter) November 22, 2011, 6:54 pm

Mmm, those enchiladas look great! I actually always wondered whether or not they were any good, although most frozen meals from TJ’s seem to be yummy (or at least that i’ve tried!).

  • Laine November 22, 2011, 7:03 pm

I biked 25 miles on Saturday with my new bike! And have gone 10-12 miles per day each day since then. I’m in heaven.

I’m going to train for the bike and swim portions of a tri in the summer, my friend will do the run leg.

You are totally my inspiration for pool training, by the way!

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin November 22, 2011, 7:11 pm

Good job on the swim! I haven’t been to the pool in weeks. It’s just too cold!

But last week I hit a weekly mileage of 16.5 miles. I haven’t run that far in a week in ages! 😀

  • Sana November 22, 2011, 8:46 pm

I love Tj’s! I need to try the best vegetarian enchiladas!

  • Ellie@fitforthesoul November 22, 2011, 9:47 pm

haha yay! Go Caitlin! Well, ever since I started working out at the gym instead of my apartment, I’ve been able to do separate cardio like running and stairmaster-ing! It’s been really awesome, b/c it helps me measure my strength and endurance!! I can tell that I’ve become a better runner than before. Also, I feel way stronger. One time, I felt like the wind!!~ <3 (but that's my opinion, you know) 😉

  • Lea November 22, 2011, 11:29 pm

I finished my first 5k last weekend!
I never thought I’d actually be able to run that far and I’m exciting to continue running.

  • Katie T November 22, 2011, 11:44 pm

Love reading all these! So much inspiration.

I raced a half-marathon on Sunday and won my age group (and set a new PR) in 1:29!!

  • Khushboo November 22, 2011, 11:45 pm

Last Thursday I ran 8 miles at my fastest pace yet and yesterday I completed a whole strength training workout which is a big deal for me as I have really not been enjoying it/able to get into the groove of it for the past month- feels GREAT! 🙂

  • Jeanelle @ Glocal Girl November 23, 2011, 2:52 am

I’ve spent more than 45 minutes on the elliptical! The weather in Amsterdam totally blows right now and it’s so hard for me to get going in the gym. I just get so bored. This week I brought a book and managed to stick it out for 45+ minutes! Hooray.

  • Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed November 23, 2011, 8:45 am

I’ve been slacking on my fitness this week… trying to fight a mild cold and just get through to the long weekend! BUT I busted out 30 push-ups in a row last night and I felt so proud. That’s my max right now towards the push-up challenge… still trying for the 50, but like you thinking it’s probably not going to happen in the next week, so December push-ups it is!

  • Amber K November 23, 2011, 1:50 pm

Great job on making it to the pool again! I busted out 10 push-ups today. I may be going slowly, but I will surely make it to my goal!

  • Jen November 24, 2011, 10:26 pm

What projects are you working on now? Do you have any advice on freelancing? I guess you’ve been up a lot of contacts/work from previous experience – and the fact that your an author! 🙂

I saw your baby body pics in your latest post and just have to say you look stunning!

  • Julia H. @ The Petite Spiel November 25, 2011, 6:46 pm

Haha, of course I saw those eggs and actually thought to myself “mmm, those look good!” when it turns out that they were overcooked. Guess I like them that way!

And Trader Joe’s is just amazing. One opened in my hometown while I was away at college, so I finally got to visit it since I’m home for Thanksgiving break. So awesome.
