Rise and Green

in All Posts

Good morning, friends.  Some of us stayed up way too late and had way too much fun last night.  And that someone is me.

Nicole, Isaac, the Husband, and I went out with a bunch of Isaac’s college friends who are in town for a wedding.  We ended up at a British pub (why must they tie their telephone booth shut?!) and hung out well past 2:00 AM.

Stabilizing breakfast:

Over-easy eggs, toast, and a giant pile of steamed greens.

I love the steamed greens and carrots combo.  I’ve been buying bags of pre-sliced/washed mixed greens (I think there’s kale, collard greens, Swiss chard, and something else in the mix…) and just put it in a wok with sliced carrots per this technique.

Oh, and you know what else I’m loving?  Green tea.

I’ve been making large tumblers of iced green tea.   So delicious with some honey!

What’s on your agenda for the weekend?  I’m doing a little decorating, starting with these sconces (not scones!) from Etsy.  I spray-painted them Oil Rubbed Bronze last night.  I have a YHL problem.  Hope they look good in the bedroom.

Have a great Saturday!

Iced green tea (with a little lemon and agave nectar) is so thirst-quenchingly delicious. And Etsy is fast becoming my new obsession – so many unique (and affordable!) things to buy on there!

  • Christine @ BookishlyB August 13, 2011, 11:51 am

I wish I was crafty and a do-it-yourselfer. I’m not a patient person and I’ve always rushed to get done and the things end up looking like crap. I also wish Etsy wasn’t so daunting- so many shops!

    • Caitlin August 13, 2011, 11:55 am

I used to be very uncrafty too but I think Young House Love helps SOOOO much. They make me believe that I can do it!

      • Heather August 13, 2011, 12:02 pm

I agree… I’m not the least bit crafty but the way YHL breaks it down makes it very doable for anyone.

  • Kristyn August 13, 2011, 11:53 am

God bless etsy 🙂 nice sconces! A young house love problem
… Awesome. You’re too funny! Happy Saturday!!

I always put spinach and carrots in my breakfast smoothie bowl, so I’m all about packing in the greens in the a.m.! Green tea is good, but peppermint tea is the best. 🙂

Where did you get that shirt? It’s so gorgeous!

    • Caitlin August 13, 2011, 12:01 pm

It’s from Loft but last year ;( Thanks though!

      • Erica August 13, 2011, 12:07 pm

        I love the Loft!

  • Robin @ The Balanced Life August 13, 2011, 11:59 am

Cute sconces! And very impressed by steamed greens in the morning 🙂

  • Molly @ RDexposed August 13, 2011, 11:59 am

You guys should get that red phone booth for you living room. It could serve as a nod to the husbands native land and time out for naughty puppies.

    • Caitlin August 13, 2011, 12:01 pm

      YES.

  • Hillary August 13, 2011, 12:00 pm

I kind of wish you were making scones AND sconces ; )

    • Caitlin August 13, 2011, 12:03 pm

      Me too 🙂

Ooohh, I love crafty Saturdays! But I can’t complain about our plans…a bracket beer competition! Cannes of Beer Festival 🙂

loose leaf green (or black!) tea is the best! once you go loose leaf, you can never go back!

  • Morgan @ Endorphaholic August 13, 2011, 12:30 pm

I am so with you on the YHL inspired ORB obsession. It’s so pretty!

  • Aja August 13, 2011, 12:33 pm

I love those sconces. And green tea is great and of course so good for you.

  • Joyce @ Jranola Joyce August 13, 2011, 12:40 pm

    the sconces looks great!!

  • Army Amy* August 13, 2011, 12:41 pm

Spinach and carrots for breakfast? Sounds cray cray. Were they good?*

  • Lexi @ A Spoonful of Sunshine August 13, 2011, 12:41 pm

Haha I definitely read that as “scones” at first 🙂

  • Paige August 13, 2011, 12:53 pm

Sounds like a fun night – definitely worth it! 🙂
    Love the sconces!

  • Chloe August 13, 2011, 1:30 pm

the phonebox is probably tied shut so people dont pee in it..like they do over here in england!

  • Baking N Books August 13, 2011, 1:33 pm

I have to go back to look at your cooking method. I put frozen vegetable in a pan with a little olive/canola oil and saute until done. But they seem still a little ‘soggy’…not sure if excess water from being frozen? Any advice? Or do you not use oil?

  • Amber K August 13, 2011, 1:33 pm

Sounds like fun! I’m hoping to just continue to recover from last night and continue watching Lost. As I jump onto any bandwagon way late 😉

  • Selena August 13, 2011, 1:34 pm

I think you were making fun of me (and others I assume) “sconces not scones”. I actually laughed when I saw the picture before I even read what you wrote LOL!

If we couldn’t laugh we would all go insane…

  • Kate (What Kate is Cooking) August 13, 2011, 1:46 pm

Ugh I stayed up until 2 last night as well! Woke up at 7 for no good reason… FML!

  • CJ @ http://healthy-happy-whole.com/ August 13, 2011, 2:45 pm

You are really good at doing crafty projects! I loved your earlier post about making your own bouquet too! What a money saver when planning a wedding budget. I swear they mark everything for weddings up a ridiculous amount! Anyway, I am glad you had a good night! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!!!

  • Aine @ Something to Chew Over August 13, 2011, 3:19 pm

I’m not sure I’d find carrots appealing after a late night of drinking! Good for you 🙂

    Enjoy your weekend!

  • Khushboo August 13, 2011, 5:19 pm

For iced green tea, do you brew it in hot water and then cool or just add cold water at the start??

    • Caitlin August 14, 2011, 8:34 am

I do hot and then chill 🙂

  • Mary August 13, 2011, 5:37 pm

Love your jeans in the first picture! What brand are they? They look amazing on you

    • Caitlin August 14, 2011, 8:34 am

Aw, thank you ! They are from Express. I’m not sure what style though.

  • Katherina @ Zephyr Runs August 13, 2011, 5:41 pm

Greens for breakfast! Love it. I always felt so weird eating greens for breakfast. What type of tea are you drinking?

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin August 13, 2011, 6:10 pm

Eggs and toast are my favourite thing to have after a night of drinking! But I’ve got to have some hash browns too. 😉
