Quail Hollow Tourny

in All Posts

After the GOTR 5K, the Husband and I hit up the Wells Fargo Championship at the very fancy Quail Hollow golf club.  Tomorrow is Kristien’s birthday, and this is what he wanted to do for his big day!

Golf is actually really fun to watch in person.  This was our fourth professional tourny together.  When we lived in Florida, we went to The Player Championship in Jacksonville (which is next weekend, so if you live in the area, snag tickets off of Craigslist!).

We RUSHED to the tournament after a quick nap following the 5K, so we ate lunch in the car.

Hummus, tabouleh, veggies wrap.

And chips.

At the event, we met up with Nate and Ben.

Over the course of seven hours, we chased the pros, sat in the sun, drank beers, and ate ice cream, French fries, and pretzels.  My only compliant about going to golf tournaments is there are NEVER healthy vegetarian options.  Not that cinnamon-sugar pretzels are something to really moan about.  Heh.

Golf fan girl moment:  I ran up to Sergio Garcia and said, “Good job! Way to go!” and he smiled at me.  Wahhhoooo!

We were so tired on the way home that we ended up picking up Thai takeout.  At home, I added steamed broccoli to my cashew tofu and brown rice.

Oh, and despite running a 5K this morning and walking at least 3.0 miles during the tournament, my knee doesn’t hurt!  Good sign, friends – very good sign!

Yay for no knee pain! I just started training for a half marathon and I’m already having some knee issues so hearing your good news makes me feel good. (not to worry, I plan on dropping out immediately if there is even a chance of permanent injury)

Also, yay for cinnamon pretzels 😀

  • maria @ Chasing the Now May 7, 2011, 9:40 pm

That wrap looks really good right now! 🙂 (And of course he smiled at you, hee. Hot girl congratulating him was probably one of the best parts of his day! :D)

My brother is an intern for the Players Championship in Jacksonville. He actually just left Minnesota today for it! Got to skip his finals and everything! My husband(a golf freak as well) is very jealous!

  • Michelle (your girlfriend for fitness) May 7, 2011, 11:02 pm

Watching golf in person seems exciting, I always prefer to see sports live rather than on tv. The atmosphere is always soo electric.

    Yay for no knee pain!

  • Molly @ RDexposed May 8, 2011, 12:05 am

Yay for no knee pain!! I don’t really understand golf, but I’m sure it was a great event 🙂

So happy your knee is on the mend.

I’ve been so impressed by how you’ve dealt with the time off and really admire all the work you’ve been doing with GOTR. It’s a shame the UK has no equivalent because it’s a brilliant concept.

Did you ever get a proper diagnosis for what is/was wrong with your knee?

    xxx

    • CaitlinHTP May 8, 2011, 2:39 pm

Nope… no idea what was really wrong with it, but I suspect a sort of tendon issue.

  • Katherine: Unemployed May 8, 2011, 6:52 am

muuuuch better than the Kentucky derby- no?

  • Sarah@The Flying ONION May 8, 2011, 7:08 am

YAY for the no knee pain!! I hope it keeps getting better and better for you! 😀

  • The Teenage Taste May 8, 2011, 7:43 am

Glad to hear the knee is pain-free! Gotta love that feeling! 😀

Cinnamon sugar pretzels and salt and vinegar chips are two of my favorite “unhealthy” convienience foods. Mmmmmmm….

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin May 8, 2011, 8:28 am

That’s awesome that your knee isn’t hurting! I know it sucked to stop running for a while, but it looks like it was worth it! 😀

  • Gina @ RunningtotheKitchen May 8, 2011, 9:04 am

Congrats on no knee pain! Hope it stays that way and you’re bacck to running soon 🙂

  • Little Bookworm May 8, 2011, 9:39 am

  • Meaghan O'Connor May 8, 2011, 9:52 am

Great to hear that your knee is healing! 🙂 As someone with knee problems myself, they are not something you want to mess around with. Hope you are back to running again soon!

We love going to golf tournaments. We went to the Players about ten years ago, and the development we lived at in Williamsburg, VA used to have a PGA tour event (now it has an LPGA event). Now we usually make it to the Transitions Championship in Palm Harbor, the Champions Tour Outback Pro Am in Lutz (Tampa), and another Champions Tour event in Naples. We always find an underdog to root for. Our underdog from a couple of years ago Mark Wilson, has won two tournaments this year! Our community here in SW Tampa Bay is also used for U.S. Open qualifying. I hear you on golf tourney food; I usually manage to sneak something healthy in my pockets.

    • CaitlinHTP May 8, 2011, 2:40 pm

Yay! So happy to hear from other PgA lover 🙂

  • Amber K May 8, 2011, 12:22 pm

Yay for no pain! I don’t know if I buy that golf can be entertaining though 😉

  • Julie May 8, 2011, 12:41 pm

I am so happy to hear about your knee and how much fun you had at the golf tourney!!!
Thanks for being such a bright spot in my day 🙂

  • Allison @ Happy Tales May 8, 2011, 1:02 pm

So many good things in this post… fun day out at the golf tourny, no knee pain, good friends, and a birthday hubby! Happy Birthday to Kristien today!

  • Natalia - a side of simple May 8, 2011, 1:10 pm

I know french fries aren’t exactly the healthiest vegetarian option, but sometimes you just have to do what you have to do 🙂 Between the tomatoes and the potatoes (ketchup and fries) I would say that you did pretty good!

  • Paige @Running Around Normal May 8, 2011, 1:22 pm

Ha! That pretzel *does* look pretty good 🙂
    Happy birthday to your husband!!

  • Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife May 8, 2011, 2:23 pm

Your wrap for the car looks AMAZING!!!

  • Jess-The SemiAbnormal Gal May 8, 2011, 9:46 pm

That is so awesome about SG! Lucas Glover is so cute! I was watching the last round/play off with my Mum and Dad today. I miss having time to play golf…I was a beginner in high school, after being a caddy for my grandpa for years, but I just don’t have time now that I teach.

  • Kristen May 8, 2011, 10:26 pm

  • Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) May 9, 2011, 12:23 am

    Mmmmmm, kettle chips!!!

  • Carolina May 9, 2011, 8:52 am

Sergio Garcia is also my fave! Isn’t he even better looking in person? Swoon haha

  • Ashley May 9, 2011, 12:19 pm

So glad to hear the 5k went off with no knee problems!

I’ve been a lurker for awhile – first time commenter. I just wanted to say I appreciate how refreshingly REAL you are in your posts. You post about eating healthy – but you aren’t afraid to admit to eating chips, drinking a beer or cocktail, straying some from “healthy eating” at events like this. It’s nice to see a blogger admitting these things, so thanks for keepin’ it real Caitlin! 🙂 Love your blog!

    • CaitlinHTP May 9, 2011, 12:39 pm

      Yay for French fries 🙂

      Thanks for the support!
