I had a really nice 27th birthday.  Thank you so much for all your birthday wishes!  :)  It was really appreciated.

I woke up and unwrapped some presents.  The Husband got me a Kindle e-book reader, which I am so excited about.  Of course, I love ‘real’ books but I also think the Kindle will be great for travel.  I’ll do a full review down the road!

The Husband made me breakfast, and then we went shopping (I never made it to the pool, oh well…).  I couldn’t find a single thing to buy at the mall, but the Husband sure did!  :)  I shopped vicariously through him until I checked out an upscale consignment shop and practically stole a pair of designer jeans.  Oh yea!

DadHTP came over and made cupcakes, as he does every year.  This was a trick candle, and I couldn’t get it to blow out!  Not sure if that means my wish won’t come true…

Then, it was time for Girls on the Run.  I was so excited to have practice on my birthday because nothing makes you feel like a real birthday girl the way kids can.  I walked into the room and 15 eight to ten year old girls went hysterical, screaming “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I LOVE YOU!!! YAYYYY!!!”

Yesterday’s lesson was our Community Service Project.  Our original plan was to host a bake sale for animals orphaned by the Japan disaster but I couldn’t get permission from the school in time due to the Easter holiday.  Instead, we used GOTR lessons to make seven informational posters for the other kids in the school.

I created a list of topics based on the curriculum + Operation Beautiful (which we talk about a lot)!.  The girls were split into pairs and assigned to their topic randomly.  We had them do a rough draft of the poster on a sheet of paper before moving onto the poster.  I think they really liked having creative control over their posters!  It was fun.

After that excitement, we had to go to the DMV to get our car registration renewed.  You know you’re a procrastinator when you look at your registration on your birthday and realize in a panic that it expires at midnight… Yah.  Sucks.

1.5 hours later…

It was time for my birthday party!  The Husband organized a big party at Kennedy’s, a really fun Irish pub that does trivia night.  We had a huge private room.

Hilary ensued.

Birthday Cake shots for the table – these are really yummy!

I ordered the Fried Goat Cheese spinach salad and a hummus appetizer for my dinner.  Kennedy’s has pretty impressive bar food!  Nice to have interesting vegetarian options, too.

And for dessert, Jen brought cupcakes from Cupcrazed.  There were vegan vanilla and regular strawberry cream cheese.  Amazing.  Seriously.

The best part of the evening?  Kennedy’s identifies customers at a large table by writing identifiers at the top of the bill.  Katie from Sweet Tater was “Curly,” Kelly was “Flower Dress,” I was “Bday Girl,” and Jen’s husband was “That Other Guy.”

See – Curly!

All in all – a very FULL birthday and a very FUN birthday.  Thanks again to everyone in real life and on the intrawebs who made it so special to me!  Regular blogging shall now resume.  🙂

Your party was a SMASHING time! I wondered what that shot I did was! Birthday cake actually makes sense now that I think about it. I was thinking it was a pineapple upside down cake shot! Hope you guys did well at trivia!
Love, Blue Sweater (my receipt identifier)

    • CaitlinHTP April 27, 2011, 12:22 pm

      Hahah Blue Sweater.

  • Hope April 27, 2011, 10:21 am

Your birthday looked like so much fun! I love chocolate cake shots! They are my absolute favorite shot! I still don’t understand how it tastes like chocolate cake! 🙂 Happy Belated Birthday! 🙂

  • Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin April 27, 2011, 10:23 am

Aww sounds like such a fun day Caitlin! Those girls are so lucky to have you for a coach. I absolutely LOVE those posters you had them make – what an awesome idea!

  • Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun April 27, 2011, 10:32 am

Sounds like a GREAT birthday full of wonderful things – family, friends, community, good food. Well the DMV could have gone but at least there was some productivity too? Bright side, right? 😉

And I think that is hilarious how they identify the checks!

  • Holly @ The Runny Egg April 27, 2011, 10:34 am

I’m glad you had a nice birthday!

I have a Nook and I love it — I’m sure you’ll love the Kindle!

  • Jennifer B. April 27, 2011, 10:34 am

  • Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table April 27, 2011, 10:35 am

I just got a Kindle and LOVE it! So convenient for travel and summertime outdoor reading. 🙂

Glad you had a great b-day!

  • Jessica @ Dishin' About Nutrition April 27, 2011, 10:39 am

Aw looks like you have some really great friends! Happy be-lated b-day! I am a huge fan of cupcakes so I think that is a great idea to have rather than a cake, I feel like no one ever eats birthday cake but they always eat cupcakes 🙂

    • CaitlinHTP April 27, 2011, 12:23 pm

I know! It’s weird. People just love little cupcakes, i guess.

  • Ann @ Day by Day April 27, 2011, 10:39 am

I want a Kindle for traveling too! It’d be so convenient. I’m that person that carries 4 books with me on trips so I can switch back and forth if I get bored with one. Also I love that the restaurant identifies you by characteristics! That could get offensive haha. I wouldn’t want to be “that other girl.”

  • McKella April 27, 2011, 10:41 am

Great birthday! That salad with the fried goat cheese looks incredible. I wonder if I can find something like that around here.

  • Nathalie April 27, 2011, 10:42 am

Happy belated Birthday!!! Glad that you had a super fun day! The GOTR girls sure are lucky girls to have you as a coach! It sounds like you have so much fun together and I love how dedicated you are to making the sessions really special!
Uhhh, Kindle…I really want one too, but so far have been able to resist the splurge. I look forward to your review of it!

    • CaitlinHTP April 27, 2011, 12:23 pm

Thank you so much. GOTR rules!

  • Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday April 27, 2011, 10:43 am

What is in a birthday cake shot??

    That sounds delicious.

    • CaitlinHTP April 27, 2011, 12:30 pm

It’s vanilla vodka and frangelico with a sugared lemon. yum!

  • Michelle from The Cooking Life April 27, 2011, 10:44 am

    I’m late! Happy happy birthday!

  • Lisa April 27, 2011, 10:45 am

Sounds like you had a great day!
I have a Kindle and it has completely changed (revitalized) my reading habits. It’s not ideal for every type of book (i.e. those that have lots of tables – they can be hard to read), but in general, it’s awesome! Definitely one of my best purchases ever!

  • Allison @ Happy Tales April 27, 2011, 10:49 am

Yayyyy we had so much fun last night — thanks to Kristien for organizing! We’ll have to hit up that Trivia again 🙂

  • Dori April 27, 2011, 10:50 am

Hahahaha love the identifiers on the bill!

  • Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat April 27, 2011, 10:53 am

Sounds like a great birthday! Congrats on the new Kindle – I think you’ll love it. I have a Nook & really enjoy it, especially having access to multiple books/buying new books wherever I am & not having so many books accumulate on my bookshelves 😉

  • J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) April 27, 2011, 11:44 am

Happy birthday, Caitlin! Sounds like fun! 🙂

I LOVE the way they identify, LOL. So awesome.

I love seeing your Girls on the Run stuff – it is so nice to see how positive some students can be. I could use some role models like your girls for my students!

  • Ellie @ The Mommyist April 27, 2011, 11:59 am

I’m glad you had such a great birthday. Did you hear that you’ll have access to library books on your Kindle soon? I’ve wanted one for a while but I always check my books out from the library so I haven’t purchased one because then I’d have to buy my books but this changes everything…

    • CaitlinHTP April 27, 2011, 12:24 pm

That sounds AWESOME. I would love library access on my Kindle!

  • Jen April 27, 2011, 12:01 pm

Your party was so fun! Happy that “that other guy” and I could celebrate with you – shots and all! 🙂

Glad you had a good day, minus the DMV part.

  • Amber K April 27, 2011, 12:25 pm

What a fun birthday!! Creating names to remember people sounds exactly like something I would do, although it’s not usually printed on something for them to see, lol.

  • Katie April 27, 2011, 12:27 pm

    Glad your birthday was amazing!!

U will LOVE the kindle! I adore mine! I also bought a light for it too when I read at night, it was 20 bux at target!

    Those birthday shots sound amazing!!!

  • Mindy Knows April 27, 2011, 12:30 pm

Keepin’ your bday alive…. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Good food, good friends… It doesn’t get much better than that! 🙂

PS Are you a AAA member? You can file most DMV paperwork at AAA including license and registration renewals. At least, here in CA you can. I was recently rear-ended and had to get new plates and new tabs. The earliest I could MAKE AN APPOINTMENT with the DMV was 2 weeks out. Instead, walked into AAA and out in 5 minutes — with my new plates and stickers in my hands! And that included wait time!

  • megan @ blackberries for jam April 27, 2011, 12:40 pm

Glad you had a great birthday! My husband gave me a Kindle for Valentine’s Day and it was the best gift I’ve ever received! It’s encouraged me to read even more but has also made me drop a ton on cash on Amazon. However, there are so many of free ebooks available, as well as a website, http://lendle.me/, which is a peer-to-peer book swapping network. Have fun!

  • Natalia - a side of simple April 27, 2011, 12:53 pm

Looks like a fantastic day, Caitlin 🙂 Glad you shared it with such great friends, family, and causes!! Here’s to another GREAT year.

My sister lives in Charlotte and I must tell her about Kennedy’s so she can check it out. Our last name is Kennedy and my dad always talks about opening a ‘Kennedy’s Irish Pub’ someday. I guess someone beat him to it. Oh well. 🙂

(and great B-Day planning by the Hubby!)

Theres another upscale consignment shop in Charlotte nearrrrr I think providence country club. Can’t remember the name of it but it’s right in the plaza at the intersection of Tom Short and Ardrey Kell Rd. Such cute stuff there!

  • Elizabeth @ the good life April 27, 2011, 8:24 pm

That irish pub looks like a blast!

  • Mandy April 27, 2011, 9:24 pm

The best thing about the Kindle? Being able to read while lying on your side! Trying to do this with regular books is awkward – it’s always a challenge holding the pages open. No such problems with the Kindle. 🙂

  • Kacy April 27, 2011, 9:52 pm

Happy late birthday!! Glad you had a good one!

  • Meh April 28, 2011, 8:34 am
