Cowfish Meet and Greet

in All Posts

What a day so far!  It’s a million degrees (okay, 82) in Charlotte, which is the warmest it’s been since the summer.  I sat on my patio for a while and got some writing done… it was a nice way to enjoy the sunshine.

Ate breakfast while working – a slice of PB toast with a banana

Kept it light because I had committed to going to Y2Yoga for Super Flow… Also known as the hardest yoga class in all of Charlotte.  90 minutes of hot flowing hell heaven.  I am trying to get back into my yoga groove and figured that I might as well jump in feet first.  It was a great class and a wonderful way to start off my Friday!

Came back home for more porch action and snacked on an apple:

And then Sophie and I went to a business meeting (I asked if she could tag along) at my favorite sushi restaurant ever, the always epic Cowfish.  Gwen, who does all the PR for Cowfish and a ton of other cool local small businesses, wanted to treat us to lunch – YAY!

Sophie was a little flabbergasted by the menu (it’s like 20 pages long), so the waiter helped her pick out a great roll.  I went with the same old, same old.  Don’t miss with perfection!

My roll had tofu, cream cheese, asparagus, carrots, and beets with brown rice.

I also ordered fried pickles for the table – YUM.  My Baked Pickle recipe just doesn’t compare.

If sushi + fried pickles don’t make for a productive business meet and greet, I don’t know what does! 🙂

How’s your Friday going so far?

PS – LOVED the comments on this morning’s post.

Dang you! Now I must have fried pickles!

  • Holly @ Couch Potato Athlete March 18, 2011, 4:17 pm

Sushi and fried pickles sounds like such a crazy combo — but in a really good way!

My Friday is going great — only an hour of work to go and then I’m home free!

  • Julie @ Shining From Within March 18, 2011, 4:19 pm

Im moving to Charlotte just for the sushi rolls and fried pickles. I read on twitter they might name a roll after you using fried pickles! AWE.SOME.!!!

  • Alexa @ Simple Eats March 18, 2011, 4:25 pm

Fried pickles are SO AMAZING. Pickles are one of my favorite foods too! Hope your Friday keeps going well!

  • Lisa Fine March 18, 2011, 4:26 pm

Love the look of that sushi. I have a huge craving for it now. Yum. (And fried pickles in suchi would be grand.)

My Friday’s going really well – did some volunteering, caught up on my blog, and bought new running shoes to prepare for my first half marathon in October. Yay!

Hey, just wondering – if ever you mention a local establishment or a product or something, and you profit from that mention, do you actually mention it in the blog? Just curious. I’m not a blogger but I read a lot and it seems like people always recommend their personal favorite this-n-that, and now I’m confused as to which mentions are done for profit/freebies, and which are not. I think as a reader I’d like to know that, before I make my own lifestyle changes based on what healthy bloggers are eating! Fair, enough, no? 🙂

    • Caitlin March 18, 2011, 4:47 pm

      Hi Gammy!

Super fair question. Also, the FCC actually requires that bloggers always tell you if a product was a giveaway or given for free. If I do product reviews (which I actually rarely do, but I do them sometimes!), I always say it was for free or part of a promotion…. not just because I’m legally required to do so, but also because I think it’s important to be transparent for all the reasons you listed! 🙂

That being said, if you are ever in CLT, you must go to Cowfish because it is SERIOUSLY EPIC. 🙂 I just love it that much.

      • Caitlin March 18, 2011, 4:48 pm

Oh and I love to mention and hyperlink back to local businesses because I am a small business owner and know how important word-of-mouth is. And of course the Hubs is also a small business owner, too. So that’s why I always go out of my way to link back to restaurants (for free).

        • Gammy March 19, 2011, 11:28 am

Of course! It was not a critique in any way, I was just genuinely curious. Love your blog and love ogling at the remarkable ingredients all rolled up inside the cowfish sushi 🙂 Keep em coming!

My Friday’s going pretty well – we’re having beautiful weather in the mountains of NC, too, and I’m enjoying it.

What a great day! When I come to Charlotte this summer, I have to go to Cowfish. It always looks so good! We had a great lunch with friends today and a trip to Trader Joes. We are now hanging out with our boys…it’s been a great day. Enjoy your evening Caitlin!

As it’s 50 degrees and monsooning in San Francisco, I am officially jealous.

Also, as much as I love pickles, I’ve never been a fan of anything fried–I know, I know, how am I a native Southerner?!–so I’m not sure I would have ordered the same. Though maybe the dipping sauce enhances the flavor? I just don’t like the breading masking the taste of some of my favorite foods!

  • Kacy March 18, 2011, 5:15 pm

All business meetings should include sushi and fried pickles. Fact!

  • christina cadden March 18, 2011, 5:43 pm

  • Kara March 18, 2011, 6:41 pm

Long menus stress me out, I’m always convinced I missed something better than what I ordered 🙂

  • Courtney March 18, 2011, 6:49 pm

I HATE LONG MENUS! sushi restaurants always stress me out because there is so much to choose from! i kinda stick with the spicy crunchy avocado something. my mom makes her own sushi so im spoiled : )

id love to try some fried pickles… are they as good as fried plantains?

  • Kayla @ Fitter Than Choc March 18, 2011, 6:52 pm

I haven’t tried fried pickles, but from the way you describe it, maybe I should?

  • Mac March 18, 2011, 6:55 pm

I hate long menus, especially long menus with very few pictures! Your food looks great though!

  • Presley March 28, 2011, 8:55 pm

This weekend I’ll be heading to Charlotte for a bachelorette party. I’ve visited Charlotte a few times in the past (I was actually engaged there, which is bizarre because I know so little about the city!) So I’ve spent the afternoon looking through your old posts to see what restaurants would be worth visiting… Cowfish looks awesome, but is it the one place I should search out? I know Charlotte has many great restaurants, so I want to attack it with a plan! 🙂

    • Caitlin March 28, 2011, 9:28 pm

Yes most definitely.. its a really good and unique place. you need reservations though!

      • Presley March 28, 2011, 9:54 pm

Thanks… good to know! Hopefully I’ll actually have some downtime to try something out!
