Spreading OB love throughout the airport!

IMG_5286 IMG_5287

And in the bathrooms, on tray tables, on baggage carts… Everywhere!  It makes traveling more fun.  🙂

Actually, traveling hasn’t been so bad because I have a new book to read.  It’s pretty good, although a bit hard to follow so far and a little creepy (obviously).

The Murder Room: The Heirs of Sherlock Holmes Gather to Solve the World's Most Perplexing Cold Cases(source)

Also, I was pulled-together enough this morning to actually pack a lunch for the flight, which I always end of appreciating because 1) it’s hard to be a vegetarian in an airport; 2) it saves a ton of $$; and 3) it’s always healthier.

And, since I used the last wrap, I had an automatic lunch bag!

In the bag:

An aweeeesome wrap with leftover BBQ tofu, corn salsa, and sprouts.

A banana:

And the last two of Anne P’s bars.  These went fast.  Must make more!

Unfortunately for me, I forgot to pack an afternoon snack (and lunch was kind of light), so it looks like I will be roaming the airport during my layover for a little snack.  :)  And Starbucks, of course.

(PS – Can I just say that I appreciate books so much more now that I wrote one?  Whenever I read a book, now I think about the person who spent months or years slaving over every single sentence instead of just thinking about the characters and plot.)

(PPS – Apparently it is cold in upstate New York.  Perhaps I should’ve checked the weather.  And packed a coat.)

    I guess you’ll have to buy a new coat — whoops 🙂

The way you feel about books is the way I feel about blogs — before I started mine I thought “that looks easy, I can do that” — and although it is fun for me, it is not “easy” all the time and they do take work!

    Have a safe trip!

  • Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin November 10, 2010, 1:48 pm

I love that lunch – looks delicious! I am always so happy when I take the time to pack breakfast/lunch before traveling either by plane or in a car. It’s so much cheaper, healthier, and more delicious than what I find otherwise!

  • Holly November 10, 2010, 1:51 pm

I never leave home without a good book. It helps to pass the time no matter where you are.

    Enjoy your trip.

  • NySoonerGirl November 10, 2010, 1:52 pm

This is actually the warmest it’s been in weeks here in Upstate! I should have warned you!

  • Amanda (Eating Up) November 10, 2010, 1:52 pm

I’ve learned to pack food too! Airports are just not reliable. Although, I do wonder which airports in the country offer the healthiest/vegetarian friendly food…

  • Kelly November 10, 2010, 1:53 pm

Haha you didn’t bring a coat? Crazy lady, I love a good book, including yours!

  • Sarena (The Non Dairy Queen) November 10, 2010, 1:57 pm

I hate searching for snacks, but with food allergies, it is a little more difficult. Your lunch looks pretty darn tasty! As for books, seriously, I completely agree. I haven’t written one (yet), but my husband co created/draws comics and graphic novels, I have so much respect for those who work so hard to get published! Safe travels Caitlin!

    • Amber K November 10, 2010, 4:09 pm

I definitely agree! Trying to find food you like that doesn’t harm you is hard, especially on the fly!

  • Michele @ Healthy Cultivations November 10, 2010, 1:57 pm

Oh no! No coat! You’ll freeze!

  • Kacy November 10, 2010, 1:58 pm

I bet writing a book really does put reading into a different perspective!

Maybe forgetting to pack a jacket means you’ll “have” to go shopping?! 🙂

  • Carla @ Will Run for Health November 10, 2010, 2:06 pm

Confession: before I started reading Healthy Tipping Point and Meals & Miles, I did not realize I could take food on a plane! Woo Hoo for useful information! Hope you find a coat to use! Good luck on your presentation!

  • Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat November 10, 2010, 2:11 pm

Isn’t it ridiculous how expensive airport food is? And unhealthy too. I always pack snacks with me and the airport security staff give me strange looks like “Lady, you’re going on a flight, not on a picnic”. But I’d so much rather bring my own! Have a safe flight! 🙂

  • Dorry November 10, 2010, 2:13 pm

I love packing travel food – I hate spending so much $$ on mediocre airport food, too.

I like what you said about writing a book and appreciating other books. I love having new experiences in life that allow you to relate to other people. My husband was an actor from childhood – high school and he has such a different perspective for TV/movies. 🙂

  • April @ Crazy Fabulous Life November 10, 2010, 2:18 pm

I think it’s really awesome that you think about the author of the books you read these days. Any time we become more aware of something is great!

Good luck on your food search in the airport. I hope you find something yummy 🙂 Safe travels, Caitlin!

  • Tab - Just Weighing In November 10, 2010, 2:19 pm

    have a great trip!

  • Kiran November 10, 2010, 2:26 pm

I’ve started reading too recently. Its good to unplug once in a while from the technology world 🙂 Helps me overcome writers block!
Enjoy and try sourcing something to keep u warm.

  • Maddie November 10, 2010, 2:27 pm

Yum! Looks like a great lunch. Have a good presentation and trip.

  • Hope @ Onehealthyhope November 10, 2010, 2:41 pm

    Great notes! Lunch looks delish!

  • janae @ hungryrunnergirl November 10, 2010, 2:42 pm

Good for you to pack your lunch for traveling, I hate airport food! Love the quote you included on your OB note!

  • Amanda November 10, 2010, 2:44 pm

It will be cold if your coming from the south but it’s actually kinda warm today by our standards. We got a few inches of snow on Monday though so we might have a twisted sense of cold 😉

  • Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman November 10, 2010, 3:11 pm

I always end up getting “lunch” at Starbucks when I’m in a hurry and catching a flight. It’s better than Nathan’s hot dogs!

  • emily November 10, 2010, 3:24 pm

Ok, what is the deal with the fabulous looking corn that you keep showing? Is it a premade salsa, are you making it? My mouth waters ever time!

  • Ann (Running With Chopstix) November 10, 2010, 3:29 pm

I saw an OB note in my school restroom yesterday! Definitely brought a smile to my face 🙂

  • Anon November 10, 2010, 3:41 pm

    BBQ tofu looks good.
I’m thinking that writing a fiction novel is entirely different than a nonfiction novel. But hard work nevertheless.

  • Dave @ tips4running November 10, 2010, 3:44 pm

Upstate NY is no joke in the late fall & winter. My mom’s side of the family is from there. Don’t hang around too long or you might get buried in lake effect snow!!!

  • sarah @ pajama chef November 10, 2010, 3:46 pm

that wrap looks delish! i’ve never thought to use tofu in a wrap… hmmm lunch possibilities abound now!

  • Jessica @ The Process of Healing November 10, 2010, 4:14 pm

No coat? Just an excuse to go shopping!

  • hippierunner November 10, 2010, 4:24 pm

I love that you used the bag as a lunch bag! I do that all the time. Whoo-hoo for reusing!

  • Lisa (bakebikeblog) November 10, 2010, 4:45 pm

What a tasty travel lunch indeed!

  • Amy November 10, 2010, 4:46 pm

Girl you are going to need to buy yourself a coat during your layover! Upstate New York in November is chilly chilly!

  • Camille November 10, 2010, 4:55 pm

Oh dear, I hope you stay warm!
I guess the money you saved on lunch you can contribute to buying a coat 🙂

  • grocery goddess jen November 10, 2010, 5:00 pm

You are making me want a wrap. Yum.

  • Jaclyn November 10, 2010, 5:02 pm

I’m flying > East tomorrow too and you just reminded me – I want to post OB notes in the airport / bathrooms!

    Also……I voted! 😀

  • Chelsea @ Strawberry Sweat November 10, 2010, 5:28 pm

I always think about how long it must take writers to write. It reminds me not to take them for granted!

  • Kim @ Kim Lives Healthy November 10, 2010, 5:41 pm

Corn salsa looks good! I actually just finished reading YOUR book 🙂 and loved the motivational phrases – I posted a couple around my house & cubicle!

  • patti November 10, 2010, 6:13 pm

Oh my God. I live in syracuse ny (central ny) and i cant believe you didnt bring a coat! Any trip to ny after september requires one! Good luck – wish it were a bit closer and i wouldve come. Enjoy the beautiful fall weather.

  • Shari November 10, 2010, 6:13 pm

I’m the exact same way with books now. It’s amazing how your perspective changes after writing one of your own. Sometimes I have to remind myself to stop looking at it from a writer’s perspective and just read for the pure joy of it.

  • Michelle November 10, 2010, 6:19 pm

any advice about eating healthy/vegetarian in college?

  • Eliza November 10, 2010, 6:30 pm

Yes, its cold up heaaa especially in Maine! I am wearing my ugg boots and northface fleece inside!:)

Gotta break out the flannel jeans soon..

  • bloomingbuzz November 10, 2010, 7:06 pm

caitlin–just wanted to share that I recently found post-its all over the stalls of bathrooms around campus where I go to college! it made me smile right when I needed a reason to 🙂 thanks for the movement you’ve started!

  • Wei-Wei November 10, 2010, 7:07 pm

That book sounds scary… oh, and there have been post-it notes going up around my school in the past few months. Apparently a few seniors have been posting them; they don’t say OB on them, but they’re essentially the same thing! I think I’ll go around and take photos of them tomorrow to send you 😀

  • Jenn November 10, 2010, 7:14 pm

I haven’t written a book either, but I have so much respect for Authors. Every time I see a different book, a different genre, idea in the bookstore I’m blown away by the creativity (and ability to actually set your mind to something and complete it). Oh one day?

I was wondering if you had much time to do reading! Can I request a post sometime of your favorite books?! What type you like and authors?

Safe flying! And get a coat!

  • Lacey @ Lake Life November 10, 2010, 7:19 pm

You’re going to freeze! 🙁 It’s supposed to be in the upper 20’s in my part of NY tonight and Ticonderoga is up even further from me!

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin November 10, 2010, 7:49 pm

I love that post-it note! So many of my regrets in life stem from not taking action. I’d rather regret taking action and failing than not taking action at all! 😀

  • Jamie @ Food in Real Life November 10, 2010, 7:53 pm

Your wrap looks awesome! Nothing like getting into a good book on a plane ride. I can’t wait to find my first OB note 🙂

  • Rebecca November 10, 2010, 8:04 pm

I guess if you didn’t bring a coat, it is always a good excuse to go shopping.

  • Samantha @ The Life Abundant November 10, 2010, 8:30 pm

I love that OB message!! In fact, I think its the best one I’ve seen posted on your blogs ever 🙂

  • steph November 10, 2010, 10:58 pm
