Not Your Typical Woman

in All Posts

I hate shopping.  Well, I like shopping for my home.  And I like food shopping.  But I really, really hate shopping for clothes.  Which works out well because I’ve worked from home for four years, so I haven’t really had to buy much (except running gear!).

However, my upcoming trip to NYC for the book release necessitated that I actually go buy some ‘professional’ clothing.  Taking some advice from my Twitter friends, I simply walked into Banana Republic, threw up my arms in desperation, and yelped “DRESS ME” to the nearest sales rep.

I’ve got some great stuff now, but I want to go back and return a necklace and a belt that I don’t really need.  Actually – what do you think?  Do you love or hate this necklace on me (I realize this is probably a very divisive piece of jewelry)?

IMG_9304

I think I’m leaning towards a return…

Are you a woman (or man) who loves to shop?  Or are you like me and cannot stand it?  I and feel overwhelmed easily in clothing stores, so it’s rarely a fun experience!

While shopping, I grabbed some Fro-Yo.  It was the least I could do for myself!

“Dinner” was kind of lame… A peanut butter and strawberry sandwich:

Then, I went on a run.  I did 6.0 moderately paced miles in 1:05 with Emma and Lauren.  It was great fun!  I love having buddies to run with.

And then I ate an apple:

Off to shower off this sweat!

Good night.  🙂

Hurrah for buying more professional clothing! Shopping at Banana is fun – I miss having a traditional job because I loved perusing their sales rack on a semi-regular basis for dress slacks…

I’d say the necklace is nice, but at least knowing me, I tend to get a little hot when I’m wearing such a big necklace on days where I have to be presentable somewhere….

  • Nicole July 28, 2010, 9:47 pm

I totally LOVE shopping even though sometimes it’s discouraging.

The necklace looks great. Everyone needs a good statement necklace. You can wear it dressy with a blazer like in your photo, or more casual with jeans and a tee.

  • Alyssa @ bride to be fit July 28, 2010, 9:48 pm

I like the necklace! I always find it so hard to wear jewelry that is out of my “comfort zone” like a big chunky necklace or a ton of bracelets, I’m usually a minimalist with my jewelry. Really like the jacket your wearing, too!

  • Ellen@FirednFabulous July 28, 2010, 9:48 pm

I hate hate HATE shopping. Which works for me because I’m always broke! But then again, I do live in NYC and I’m constantly wishing I had a more impressive wardrobe! And I actually really love the necklace. It makes a statement without being too in your face. Sorry, but I vote KEEP! 🙂

  • Kristine July 28, 2010, 9:50 pm

I don’t really love the necklace, but I’m not really a fashion expert. I say if you don’t love it, return it and buy something that you really do like. You do look very pretty and professional in that outfit though!

    • Caitlin July 29, 2010, 9:50 am

      Thank you 🙂

  • Amanda July 28, 2010, 9:53 pm

I hate shopping as well unless I’m in a “shopping mood” and have money to spend and I can just buy whatever I feel like. Other then that I find it tiring and tedious

  • Anya @ Fitness & Sunshine July 28, 2010, 9:56 pm

I also feel a lil’ overwhelmed shopping for clothes. I always try to look presentable at work and in class, but following every trend, etc. just isn’t for me!

  • Jessica @ Rawtumn July 28, 2010, 9:57 pm

I get overwhelmed at clothing stores as well. Whenever I can manage to order things online, I will. Glad you found something you love! =D

  • Lauren @ Healthy Delicious July 28, 2010, 9:58 pm

I love it – you look great!

  • Diana (Mymarblerye) July 28, 2010, 9:59 pm

Love the necklace but that’s something you wouldn’t wear on tv… since you want the focus to be ON the book and ON you you don’t want people to be distracted by big jewelry statements…keep it though..it’s cute! 😉

  • Lori Lynn July 28, 2010, 9:59 pm

I’m not a person who likes to shop, but I think a lot of that is b/c it makes me even more self-conscious of the way that I look. It’s a nice necklace, but it might be a little busy with the jacket.

  • Elizabeth July 28, 2010, 9:59 pm

I say keep it! Looks great! 🙂

  • Katelyn July 28, 2010, 10:00 pm

Wow I am so glad you posted this! I for one HATE clothes shopping. It’s draining, stressful, and overall expensive! I have recently lost weight do to marathon training and find that shopping just enhances the fact that I am bony and awkward looking! I am also a student and don’t have the funds to shop so it’s mostly just downright depressing looking at all the things I CAN’T buy.

Food shopping on the other hand…I could do that all day! Send me to a farmer’s market and I’m all down for blowing a few hours ogling over fresh foods. If only canada had a Whole Foods!! I would be in heaven (and spend my “clothes” money on food :)!)

  • Ashley July 28, 2010, 10:00 pm

    LOVE the necklace!!!!

When are you coming to NYC? I’ll make sure to be there to support you and your amazing project/book!

    • Caitlin July 29, 2010, 9:51 am

Next week!!! I’ll post about events soon!

  • Maria July 28, 2010, 10:02 pm

I really do not enjoy shopping either! I love going with other people but only if I’m not shopping for myself! For some reason I get very stressed so I tend to do most of mine online. But that is so exciting that you are going to New York for your book release! I saw your picture on twitter & I love your suit!

  • Jaime Runs July 28, 2010, 10:02 pm

    I LOVE that necklace!

I hate shopping. I always go looking for something specific and never come home with what I wanted. Then I feel like I wasted my day. So frustrating!

  • Heather July 28, 2010, 10:02 pm

I don’t wear a lot of chunky jewelry, but that’s just my personal preference. It doesn’t look bad though. Good luck!

  • Kelly July 28, 2010, 10:02 pm

I like the necklace, but I can see how if it’s not your style you might feel uncomfortable wearing it. As far as shopping goes, it depends how I’m feeling in my body that day but I typically enjoy it.

  • Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman July 28, 2010, 10:03 pm

I love the necklace! I think it’s a statement piece (I wouldn’t wear any other jewelry with it) but it’s fun. It totally adds something to the outfit. Keep!

I love shopping but I hate shoe shopping. It’s so hard to find shoes that are cute and still fit my custom orthoics.

  • Jessica @ Jessica Balances July 28, 2010, 10:03 pm

I love shopping and I LOVE that necklace on you! I say keep it – it’s different and will help dress up your other clothes when you go out on the town or feel like looking spiffy. 🙂

  • Jessica @ Rawtumn July 28, 2010, 10:03 pm

Oh there it is! The pictures wasn’t loading for me at first. I like the necklace, it looks great with the outfit, but if you aren’t 100% feeling it you should definitely take it back. I know I end up feeling guilty for keeping things I don’t really need more often than I miss the ones that I decided to return.

  • Jennifer July 28, 2010, 10:04 pm

Love the necklace but it just doesn’t look like “you”. If you are not comfortable in it you should return it. Be yourself!

  • Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday July 28, 2010, 10:04 pm

I’m seriously considering hiring a high school girl this summer to be my personal shopper. Wouldn’t that be a good idea? I mean, any normal high school girl loves shopping! And to get paid to do it, I bet she’d be in heaven.

I absolutely hate shopping too. Dread it.

    • HTP Dad July 30, 2010, 11:06 pm

Look in her closet first – seriously.

  • Cyndi @ Weightless Life July 28, 2010, 10:05 pm

I think if you’re not sure you like the necklace than it would be best to return it. Who knows, if at some point you decide you have to have you can always buy it again!
I am not a huge fan of clothes shopping. I mean I like it more now that I’ve lost weight, but I still find the whole process stressful, mainly because I can never figure out what looks good. Maybe I should take a tip from you and just ask other people to dress me.

  • Lisa M July 28, 2010, 10:07 pm

I agree with Jennifer – cute necklace but if you are not loving it – don’t wear it.

  • Nicole July 28, 2010, 10:11 pm

    The necklace is cute.

  • *Andrea* July 28, 2010, 10:12 pm

i always LOVED shopping but when i developed an ED in high school i stopped because of a deep hatred i developed for my body 🙁 slowly regaining my shopping passion though as i become more comfortable with who i am.

froyo or a latte or something is a necessity when shopping 😉 i love the sex and the city quote when carrie says ‘shopping is my cardio.’ honestly you probably walk 3 miles easily when shopping for several hours!

ps dinner was not lame. pb&j is the best meal, any time of day 🙂

  • giordin July 28, 2010, 10:14 pm

I hate clothes shopping too!!! Except running and workout clothes! Such a pain!

I also hate accessorizing! Usually because I find it’s just added cost and not totally necessary…unless its something I’m absolutely in love with.

Your outfit will look great either way!

  • Lindsay @ Summit Sandwiches July 28, 2010, 10:16 pm

I too HATE clothes shopping. The only stuff I like shopping is for running and hiking gear….or books! Other than that, I can’t stand it.

  • Jasmine @ Eat Move Write July 28, 2010, 10:16 pm

I love that necklace, but if you realllllly feel it isn’t you, return it. I know that every time I buy something that someone else likes, I don’t wear it. You look amazing, by the way!

  • Allison July 28, 2010, 10:16 pm

    return the necklace.
    keep the fro-yo.

  • Carly (Swim, Run, Om) July 28, 2010, 10:17 pm

I do not like that necklace. At all. But other commenters are right, though – if you’re not feeling it, then that’s all that really matters! Send it back!

I love shopping for clothes. I love shopping, period. But I have no money, which cuts into my love for shopping. But yeah, I’m definitely one of those people that will be at the malls on midnight the day after Thanksgiving.

  • Crystal July 28, 2010, 10:19 pm

I don’t like the necklace. I think it’s b/c it just seems to “busy” with the jacket on.

  • Whitney @ Whitinspired July 28, 2010, 10:20 pm

I love the necklace, just not with that jacket. There’s just too much going on around your neck. It would look SUPER cute with the plain white t/tanktop/whatever you’re wearing underneath though!

    • Whitney @ Whitinspired July 28, 2010, 10:22 pm

oh and I hate shopping for clothes. HATE. I go with a plan, and usually spend less than an hour. I’m also not the type who finds a good sale. If a rack is too cluttered, I get overwhelmed and move on.

    • Stina @ Girl Can July 29, 2010, 9:42 am

I agree with this comment. I like the necklace, but I don’t love it with the jacket.

I would say if you don’t love it though take it back. Generally if I buy things I don’t love they end up just sitting in my closet/ drawers/ etc, and I only wear them out of despiration.

  • Maura July 28, 2010, 10:21 pm

Before reading anything I saw it and thought, “Fabulous.”

    • Rachael July 28, 2010, 11:43 pm

I did the same. I *love* the necklace.

      • krista July 29, 2010, 9:04 am

Same here! I WANT IT now too!

    • Caitlin July 29, 2010, 9:52 am

      Thanks guys!

  • Amanda July 28, 2010, 10:22 pm

I can see why you might want to return the necklace, especially if it isn’t you. But to be honest, I think it looks great! I never really accessorize because everything I wear has a practical purpose, but I think sometimes it’s good to go out on a limb and try something new in your wardrobe! I can’t see your whole outfit but I bet that the necklace is the piece that turns the outfit from good to great. It draws attention in a good way. You look very professional and fashionable regardless!

  • katie July 28, 2010, 10:22 pm

Not a huge fan of the necklace, but I think if it were a little smaller I’d like it a lot. Glad you got good stuff- can’t wait to see you on tv!

  • Caitlin July 28, 2010, 10:22 pm

I love the necklace and the suit, but think the suit will look way too plain without some sort of jewelry.. at least for a special occasion like yours 🙂 I say keep!

  • Megan@EatScrapRun July 28, 2010, 10:25 pm

I liked the necklace in the twitter pic with the jacket open, but think it’s too much with the jacket closed.
    P.S. I love to shop!

  • Tracey @ TropicalHappiness July 28, 2010, 10:25 pm

I’m not a huge fan of that particular necklace. However, I think that you DEFINITELY need some sort of statement necklace. The outfit is super cute, but a little plain, so I think another necklace would really spice it up and *make* the outfit. Great places to look for jewelry: Banana, Ann Taylor, White House Black Market…. I would keep searching, if you have time, but I think you should find something to replace it rather than not wearing a necklace or wearing a small chain.

  • Jessica July 28, 2010, 10:26 pm

I love shopping and that necklace is completely necessary for the outfit! It looks great!!! 😀

  • Lisa (bakebikeblog) July 28, 2010, 10:27 pm

I am not the hugest fan of clothing shopping – but food shopping on the other hand…LOVE IT!

  • tanyasDaily ProductViews July 28, 2010, 10:29 pm

I go by what I FEEL….as I have to wear it!

  • Kristina July 28, 2010, 10:29 pm

I like the necklace… but if you don’t think you’ll wear it much, return it… You said you are going to be the secretary of your husband’s business… does that mean some visibility, or more of a behind the scenes biz manager?

🙂 the necklace may come in handy…? it’s a comfort level thing though.

I can’t wait to see you on television! 🙂

    • Caitlin July 29, 2010, 9:52 am

I think it would be good to wear to the clubs… LOL

  • Dominique July 28, 2010, 10:31 pm

I love to shop but I’m having a hard time finding clothes as of late. I used to have a job that required a uniform that I never had to worry about looking “business casual.” Right now the place I’m working is kind of confusing because some people wear tank tops and khakis while others wear dress tops and pants. I’m in the latter group (I want to look professional) but am having a hard time finding clothes that fit properly.

I really like the necklace but not with the rest of that outfit. I agree with the rest of the posters who said that it looks like the necklace is wearing you rather than vice-versa. I’d keep the necklace for another occasion, especially if it wasn’t too expensive.

  • lisasfoods July 28, 2010, 10:33 pm

I’m the same exact way. I usually walk into a clothing store knowing exactly what I want in mine. If they don’t have it, I leave. If what I’m looking for is there, I’ll try it on and most likely get it. But I’m definitely not a shopper; I find shopping (except for food and yarn, and other natural products) kind of boring.

  • Lisa July 28, 2010, 10:33 pm

It looks nice but if its not you, then your are not going to wear it with confidence, so I say return it. If I wear something I am not loving I fidget with it and fidgeting looks bad! I love shopping when I don’t need something…but if I am on a mission for a particular item or event then I don’t enjoy it, its the only kind of pressure I don’t work well under.

  • Jessica July 28, 2010, 10:34 pm

Banana Republic’s dress clothes fit me the best out of any other store; and I’ve tried everywhere! I say you MUST keep the necklace. Accessories take an outfit from…O.K. to fabulous! A statement piece also adds to a positive first impression–or at the very least makes you more memorable.

  • Amanda July 28, 2010, 10:35 pm

Love the necklace. I say keep!

  • Susan July 28, 2010, 10:39 pm

I love all kinds of shopping, but I have to be in the mood.

I agree with the other comments that said the necklace looked better with the jacket open and that it might be too much for TV. But most importantly, if you’re not feeling it, you should return it. Maybe get something a little more simple?

  • Megan (Braise The Roof) July 28, 2010, 10:40 pm

I say keep the necklace! You’ll like having a statement piece of jewelry that you can either dress up with a blazer or down with a t-shirt.

  • Shari July 28, 2010, 10:42 pm

I am like you in that I don’t enjoy shopping for clothing because I find it overwhelming but I do enjoy the satisfaction of actually finding an outfit or piece that I love. Speaking of which I think the necklace looks great! This was my initial reaction before I even read the post, I think you should keep it (but only if you feel confident wearing it).

  • Amy July 28, 2010, 10:43 pm

I love shopping! I feel like I was raised in a mall. lol I don’t like shopping for home decorating stuff (except bedding) but I love shopping for clothes, computers, books, etc. I’d say skip the necklace. It might be too much for your tv appearance.

  • Kris July 28, 2010, 10:43 pm

I love the necklace, but if you don’t love it, don’t keep it. I would suggest something along those lines, just more to your own taste. Target always has a good selection, or try Kohls, or Burke’s Outlet for inexpensive.

I love to shop and worked for Banana Republic for three years (sales and mgmt.). It was so much fun helping people put things together. I do a lot of personal shopping for friends, and would love to do it for others. I go for classic looks with pieces picked up on sale or at discount stores. It does take a lot of time to find the right look/articles. Always take advantage of a helpful salesperson like you did in BR, or if you see someone with a look or article you like, ask them where they got it.

  • Erin July 28, 2010, 10:45 pm

I really like the new clothes look! You look great! I think the necklace looks nice with the outfit, but as it is large and “blingy” you might feel more comfortable with something more simple since you aren’t used to dressing up too much.

  • Tammy July 28, 2010, 10:48 pm

I say keep! The necklace looks really nice and goes well with your jacket!

  • Mindy July 28, 2010, 10:48 pm

I say this as someone with a degree in public relations, so speaking from a communications perspective. I really like the necklace, definitely keep it because it looks great with the jacket. But for television it won’t work. You don’t want something quite so bold in front of the camera. Try for something that falls at about the same length, but avoid things like the chunky gems.

You’re going to do great, girl! Can’t wait for your appearance!

  • Samantha July 28, 2010, 10:49 pm

I personally think the necklace looks great on you, but if you’re leaning towards a return, perhaps you should follow your gut feeling. So often I’ve kept things that I wasn’t sure I liked and things I liked but wasn’t sure I’d ever feel comfortable wearing. And you know what? They usually just end up sitting in my closet FOREVER! I think it’s better to spend money on things you absolutely LOVE and want to wear all the time.

Shopping is hit or miss for me… I love getting new things, but I’m always very hesitant to spend money. I probably spend more time debating a purchase than anything else, which doesn’t always equate to FUN!

  • Janna@Janna's Keeping it Real! July 28, 2010, 10:51 pm

I really like the necklace on you…I’m not a huge fan of jewlery on ME but I always love it on others, so I know your hesitation in keeping it! I say, if you’re going to feel uncomfortable/self conscious…take it back! I have one too many pieces of jewelry just lying around bc of this! :X

I get wayyy too overwhelmed shopping (even grocery shopping, at times).

  • Espie July 28, 2010, 10:52 pm

Return. Try a piece u already own and save the $$$

I HATE shopping. I am a weird size that NO stores seem to carry (I’m 4′ 11″, petite frame and size 5 feet) and have to do my shopping online most of the time but usually means I have to give myself extra time for shipping and alterations. It’s obnoxious. I feel your pain.

  • Marcy July 28, 2010, 10:54 pm

The necklace looks great with the outfit. Keep it. If the choice is to not wear anything or wear the necklace I recommend wearing it.

  • Katheryn July 28, 2010, 10:55 pm

I don’t like the necklace and vote for returning. I usually feel overwhelmed when I try to shop clothes for myself, as well. I very rarely feel relaxed.

  • Leah @ L4L July 28, 2010, 10:59 pm

I like the necklace but if you don’t see yourself wearing it like once a month at minimum, I’d return it. Well, depending on the price. If it was a good deal and you wouldn’t wear it so much I might keep it but otherwise, take it back.

  • lindsay July 28, 2010, 11:00 pm

The necklace is cool! Although, I am with the others in that I think you should keep it only if you love it. That kind of jewelry can be expensive at places like Banana (and JCrew and such) so you could use that money toward something you need or may wear more. But if you love it, keep it. I think it would look great with jeans!

Oh and I made my very first frozen banana soft serve with peanut butter tonight. YUM! Thanks for the idea!!

    • lindsay July 28, 2010, 11:02 pm

Forgot to answer the shopping question. I am spoiled by not having to go to malls since I live in a city. I love just popping into one or two specific stores when I need something. Hate shopping for long periods of time, and hate shopping in malls or with other people!

  • Wendy July 28, 2010, 11:01 pm

You’re not the only one – I hate shopping too! I never know what looks good on me, what goes with what, etc. I’m also terrible at accessorizing, so I have no opinion on the necklace. Sorry!

  • Maria @ Oh Healthy Day July 28, 2010, 11:03 pm

I love the necklace, but I think you will need something that you feel confident in for your interview and if you have any doubts at all, then return!

  • Emily July 28, 2010, 11:03 pm

I think the necklace makes the outfit!!

  • Amber from Girl with the Red Hair July 28, 2010, 11:13 pm

I personally LOVE the necklace – but I’m a huge fan of big, chunky jewelry like that! Like the commenter above me said, you need to feel fully confident so if you have any doubts return it!!

  • Sara July 28, 2010, 11:14 pm

I really like the outfit you posted a picture of on Twitter earlier, but I’m not a huge fan of the necklace; it’s a bit much. I also really hate shopping. I always need clothes, but I never can find anything and I get really overwhelmed very quickly. My office is super casual, but I almost wish it wasn’t so I would be forced to get some new stuff. My wardrobe is pathetic. I need to go on What Not To Wear so they can dress me!

  • Angharad July 28, 2010, 11:18 pm

I like the necklace but it doesnt seem very you (i realize I dont actually know you…) and I think you need to feel super confident/confident in something so bold.

Cant wait to see what else you got! I love clothes shopping a lot.

  • Alyssa July 28, 2010, 11:20 pm

I think the necklace is a bit much, something more simple would be suitable. It is cute though, but I think it would be better with a different outfit 🙂

I have to be in the mood for shopping, know what I mean?

  • Gracie (complicated day) July 28, 2010, 11:22 pm

While I like the necklace, I wouldn’t wear anything I wasn’t confident in. If you’re questioning it I’d return it. I am a little biased because I think BR’s jewelry is insanely overpriced, though!
PS- clothes shopping sucks. I hate it so much I learned to sew!

  • Dynamics July 28, 2010, 11:27 pm

Love the necklace but if you are going on TV, maybe something smaller that does not make such a statement. I vote keep it and buy something else also. Maybe wear it to book signings!

  • Marie July 28, 2010, 11:28 pm

I think if you aren’t sure about the necklace, return it. Wear something more meaningful to you instead. I think if you aren’t sure about it now, then you might be worrying about it on camera or in an interview. However, if you feel fabulous wearing it, keep!!

  • maria @ Chasing the Now July 28, 2010, 11:28 pm

I like shopping when there are discounts and I have time to look through the racks.

I vote take the necklace back. It doesn’t look like “you” to me. But if you love it, by all means keep it!

  • Michal July 28, 2010, 11:30 pm

I feel completely overwhelmed in department stores… I literally have to talk myself through it to stave off panic attacks. I’m better in the regular mall. I don’t mind clothes shopping if I’m going for something specific, but I’m always in-and-out. Actually, my Mum hates shopping… and my Dad is great with it. So I always took my Dad clothes shopping when I had to do it :-p Two women who hate shopping = doesn’t work!

The necklace is cute, although I kind of see it with a club-wear tank top more than a suit (which just makes you seem very modern for wearing it with a suit). I agree with the above comment – it’s nice, but you need to feel confident in whatever you choose to wear.
Hey, remember 🙂 You’re beautiful no matter what silly clothes you pick! I bet you could wear your running clothes and all the girls would just admire you for it!

    • Michal July 28, 2010, 11:33 pm

(Oops. By “above comment”, I meant the one where someone said “it’s nice, but you need to feel confident in what you wear”… can’t find it now! sorry for confusion.)

  • Edith July 28, 2010, 11:32 pm

I <3 the necklace, but it doesn't mean you have to too.
It is pretty big and tends to draw attention away from your face.
If you need the extra encouragement to try something you wouldn't usually: keep it!!!
If you just don't feel fabulous: drop it like a hot potato!!!

  • Erin @ A Girl & Her Mutt July 28, 2010, 11:32 pm

That necklace is a must. I love the combo of something funky with a little professional. It gives you character!

  • Lindsey July 28, 2010, 11:34 pm

I love the necklace, it totally makes the outfit! Before I even read your post I was thinking how cute your necklace is. I must say I’m not a huge fan of shopping either but every once in awhile I’ll have a really productive shopping trip and new clothes always make me feel better!

  • Sana July 28, 2010, 11:38 pm

Always wear something you are comfortable in and you will shine on camera 😉

  • Cynthia (It All Changes) July 28, 2010, 11:39 pm

I hate shopping. I wear a uniform everyday for work and then put on workout clothes so I have no reason to get real clothes.

And being heavy for so long nothing ever fit so I am scared that things still won’t fit.

  • Meredith July 28, 2010, 11:40 pm

KEEP the necklace! If you love wearing simple clothing, a statement accessory can make your outfit special! I’m sure it will come in handy & it looks great on you!!

  • Natalie July 28, 2010, 11:45 pm

oh boy i LOVE to shop!! 🙂
I would say return the necklace, definitely. If you are leaning towards it, odds are you will never grow to love it and you won’t wear it. If you don’t absolutely love it, you won’t wear it and there’s no reason to have it!!

  • shelby @ eatdrinkrun July 28, 2010, 11:52 pm

Eh, I’m with you. I kind of suck at shopping. I also work from home, and at a running store, and spend 90% of my time in running clothes or yoga pants. 🙂

The necklace? I kind of love it and think you should keep it, though! I’d never pick it out myself either, but I think it looks fantastic with that shirt/jacket and adds some visual uniqueness to the outfit! I vote keep!

  • Elyse July 29, 2010, 12:03 am

Keep the necklace! I work in film and television and I actually think it’s a great addition to your oufit. Despite being bold, it isn’t gaudy, which makes it ideal for a professional, classy, and stylish look. Rock it girl!

  • Samantha @ Mama Notes July 29, 2010, 12:12 am

I don’t really like shoping for clothes either. Id on’t love the necklace either. 🙂

  • Rachel S July 29, 2010, 12:12 am

I’d say return the necklace, it’s a bit too much even for a “statement piece”. Something about it looks too harsh or hard or something..

  • Erica July 29, 2010, 12:15 am

I was admiring that necklace on the BR website earlier today! I loooove it! Such a great statemen piece! BUT,if you don’t feel comfortable in it or if you’re iffy about it then return it. Usually when I buy stuff I’m not sure about it usually just ends up sitting in the box.

    • Erica July 29, 2010, 12:16 am

      *statement

  • Carrie July 29, 2010, 12:17 am

    Two things:
    1) Not crazy about the necklace. Looks very costume jewelry to me. I agree with the others, if you don’t love it, take it back. And it doesn’t sound like you love it. Go look at my Silpada Designs jewelry web site though! The new 2010-2011 catalog just came out this week and there is some gorgeous jewelry in there!! It’s all sterling silver mixed with real stones. Don’t let the prices scare you, I’ll give you a great discount if there’s something you like!! 🙂 When I saw your jacket, I immediately thought of that turquoise necklace on the front cover of the catalog. There are so many awesome pieces, just let me know.

    2) I ran 6 miles tonight also! I’m signed up to run the Nike WOmen’s San Francisco Marathon in October. I started reading your blog toward the end of last year and was SO inspired by your marathon training and then reading the race recap. I made it my goal to do a 1/2 marathon in 2010. I did that in April and then signed up in the lottery for the Nike marathon in Oct. And I got in! So now somehow I’m training for a marathon and I NEVER thought I would do one. Fun that now you’re going to do another one and I can follow along! Many congratulations on your book and can’t wait to see you on the Today show. So exciting!

    • Caitlin July 29, 2010, 9:53 am

Wahooo!!! Good luck on the marathon!

  • SaraRM July 29, 2010, 12:22 am

Like the outfit but I would say not an everyday necklace… Im more of a pearl type of girl.

  • Amanda (Two Boos Who Eat) July 29, 2010, 12:24 am

I love that necklace. LOVE IT! It’s so flattering on you. But if you don’t love it and if it was pricey…I say take it back. (But it really looks nice!)

I love shopping but I HATE trying clothes on. Hate it.

  • Laura Ann July 29, 2010, 12:28 am

i am totally with you. food and house stuff shopping = super fun. clothing shopping = super stressful and well, blah.

  • Sara July 29, 2010, 12:28 am

That necklace is fabulous. FABULOUS. Though, I might be biased, I have a ton of statement (costume) necklaces! It’s my inner Miami girl coming out in a city of people in boring suits. Hell, I’d wear that with a white tank, jeans, and heels to go out. But, like others have said, if you feel uncomfortable in it, it’ll bug you! Before returning it, try it on with a few different kinds of outfits (a little black dress, the suit, jeans and a t-shirt or white button-down) and see if you think you’ll get mileage out of it. If not, return! Make space in your closet for something else you’d wear more often.

  • Amber K @ sparkpeople July 29, 2010, 12:30 am

I think it’s a cute necklace, but not one I would wear personally.

I am not a huge fan of shopping mostly because I don’t like parting with money for things that feel frivolous, even if they aren’t!

  • Allie @ CookReadRun July 29, 2010, 12:41 am

I hate shopping for clothes too. Shoes. I could do for hours, but clothes…? I’m usually in and out in ten minutes. I hate it.
    The necklace is great 🙂

  • dotsie July 29, 2010, 12:45 am

    I LOVE that necklace!

  • elaine! July 29, 2010, 1:01 am

The outfit is conservative enough (which is a good thing!) that you need a bold piece of jewelry to add some pizazz and personality to it. I’d say only return the necklace if you have a big, chunky necklace you like that you can wear instead. Or, if you just plain don’t like it, maybe exchange it for something more your style. You look great!

  • Alexa@Running the Road to Recovery July 29, 2010, 1:15 am

My take on the necklace: Gorgeous! I have a really classic sense of style, nothing too wild or trendy, and this piece is really classy and simple while still making a statement. I know sometimes making a fashion statement can be an exercise in self-doubt, but if you own it and commit to it, you can pull off just about anything!

  • Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] July 29, 2010, 1:18 am

I think the necklace is ‘edgy’ & I don’t think of Miss Operation Beautiful as ‘edgy’… 🙂

  • Lindsay July 29, 2010, 1:21 am

I really like the necklace, but if you are not comfortable in it or do not like how it makes you feel like you look. The reason I say that is because if you are unsure about it, you wont wear it and it will be a waste of money.
I do love to shop, but I am not a fan of clothes shopping. Tell me to go shopping for purses, shoes, or jewelry and I will be out the door faster than ever!! 🙂

  • Jackie (Peaces of Earth) July 29, 2010, 1:47 am

I actually love the necklace!! I think it’s original. Your “piece of flare”. 🙂

  • Lea @ Healthy Coconut July 29, 2010, 1:55 am

The necklace looks nice on you. I like it and I would keep it BUT it’s up to you and if you’re comfortable wearing it. I love shopping. I used to be a Banana Republic shopaholic, but I’ve calm downed a lot and have not bought anything since beginning of the year. I shopped so much that I can spot Banana Republic clothes from afar and even worst, what season they came out…told you it was bad. Since I haven’t shopped, I have been creative in my clothes and usually use accessories to re-new an outfit.

  • Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) July 29, 2010, 1:56 am

I am not a big fan of the necklace, but I think a different one might be in order!

I LOVE to shop for clothes!!

  • Wei-Wei July 29, 2010, 2:04 am

Eh, not the biggest fan of shopping, but I don’t hate it either. I think the necklace would look great with a little black dress 😉 Don’t return it! It’s quite a good statement piece.

    Wei-Wei

  • Freya @ Brit Chick Runs July 29, 2010, 2:56 am

I adore buying stuff for the house, my horse or myself!!
As for the necklace- I like it! If I were you I’d keep it 🙂

  • Stacey @ Tipping the (Kitchen!) Scales July 29, 2010, 3:30 am

I like clothes shopping but end up getting really frustrated when stuff I like doesn’t fit properly or look good.

I love the necklace, it’s a good statement piece and could really finish off a look. That being said, if you’re not comfortable with it then return it, otherwise it’ll just never get worn and will be a waste of money. You’ll probably have to go with your heart on this one!

  • Marysa July 29, 2010, 3:54 am

Keep the necklace! It’s a statement necklace and every woman needs one. You’ll appreciate it later!

  • Ira July 29, 2010, 4:28 am

Please bring the necklace back Caitlin! How about something more fragile and colourfull instead of something dark and chunky! You are such a pretty woman and so positive – let the jewelery represent that!

  • Pam July 29, 2010, 5:08 am

Hate shopping, LOVE the necklace on you!

  • Kimberley July 29, 2010, 6:05 am

I am so with you on the anti-clothes shopping sentiment. Unless I’m in my PJs, snuggled up with the J Crew catalog. Malls just kind of overwhelm me.
I think the necklace is nice, but somehow not quite right for you (can’t put my finger on it…maybe it’s b/c you don’t love it). A pop of bright color would look great with your suit. Anthropologie has some really cute selections and actually so does the Macys at SouthPark.

  • Tina July 29, 2010, 6:30 am

I get into shopping maybe once a year but even then I want to be in, out, and done within a couple hours. I can’t wait to see you on the Today show!

And I have to say I like the necklace but it looks a bit bulky for TV, especially if you were to wear a jacket. If you had a more open neckline, then it would be great. Otherwise, something still fun but a little more simple would probably work better.

  • Sue July 29, 2010, 6:40 am

I enjoy shopping when I actually have money to spend and everything fits. Neither of those things happen often enough though.

Caitlin – I just saw an article on Operation Beautiful in Woman’s Day magazine. Girl, you are everywhere! Congrats on your success!!

  • Becky July 29, 2010, 6:45 am

I don’t love or hate that necklace, but if you are looking for something to wear on TV, I’m not sure that’s the best choice. I think it won’t “read” well on TV. You might look for a necklace that is more uniform- all one material, or at least less mixing of materials and textures. A chunky bead necklace might be a better choice.

    • Caitlin July 29, 2010, 9:55 am

      Good advice… thanks!

  • Christie {Honoring Health} July 29, 2010, 7:02 am

I actually like the necklace but not with the outfit. I think the outfit is very powerful and sends a strong message as does the necklace. I would pair that necklace with a simpler necklace or perhaps without the jacket. I think I would wear something a little less trendy and more classic with that jacket.

  • Heather @ Side of Sneakers July 29, 2010, 7:15 am

I love the necklace! But it depends what you think it would look like on tv (!!!) I like that it helps the outfit say “I’m professional, but I’m still cool”. If you don’t love it, I wouldn’t wear it though- you could make the same statement with a different necklace and be more comfortable with your outfit. 🙂

  • Kelli July 29, 2010, 7:19 am

I LOOOOVE the necklace! SO many times suits for women are so boring. The best way to snazz them up is with killer jewelry and SHOES! Good luck in NYC! Let me know if you are ever in the Hartford area! I would love to meet up and take you to some killer places to EAT!!!

  • Nat July 29, 2010, 7:23 am

I like shopping but find it awfully frustrating when I am looking for something specific or something for a special occasion and nothing seems to fit or look great!?

Personally, I find the necklace a bit OTT; is your TV interview daytime or evening- I think it’s definitely a bit too huge for daytime…it kinda takes the attention away from your face. You look great on the picture, I just dont think you need a huge piece like that. And as you’re not 100% sure about it, I think you’ve already answered your question 😉 I am no expert on these things at all, but you should feel absolutely fabulous in whatever you choose to wear 😉

    • Nat July 29, 2010, 7:27 am

      …in the picture…silly typo, sorry 🙂

  • Holly @ couchpotatoathlete July 29, 2010, 7:39 am

I like the necklace, and especially with that suit. But I have a hard time shopping. I will go to a store with money ready to spend and I just can’t decide what looks good or what is worth it. I never know. So I end up with nothing!

And there is NOTHING lame about a PB/strawberry sandwich!

  • Katy(The Balanced Foodie) July 29, 2010, 7:54 am

I love the necklace, and agree it would look best without the jacket just a simple white tank top. BUT it’s also not very “you” and if you’re going to be uncomfortable in it, it will show. 🙂 I say return and maybe search other places for a nice piece of jewelry. Or we can go shopping after brunch Sunday. 😉

  • Becky July 29, 2010, 7:55 am

KEEP IT!! It looks fantastic and make the outfit! Otherwise, it’s just plain and too much shirt . Accesories are so important and people don’t use them enough!

  • Morgan @ Life After Bagels July 29, 2010, 7:58 am

I HATE shopping but my boyfriend loves it . . . he works in fashion so I guess that’s why. I actually don’t own any pieces of clothing that he hasn’t picked out. It works quite well for me except that he makes me try every thing on and I despise trying things on, too much work. I really have no fashion sense, so I do wonder what I would show up to work or a party in if it wasn’t for him.

  • Maria July 29, 2010, 7:58 am

I LOVE the necklace! It looks so great with that blazer and you can totally wear it with lots of other things. It makes such a statement. I say keep it 😀

  • Kate July 29, 2010, 8:03 am

LOVE LOVE LOVE the necklace! Definitely a keeper!

  • Allie July 29, 2010, 8:04 am

i really love the necklace and it looks terrific on you. it’s great to have a big piece of jewelry like that to dress up a simple sheath or even a white shirt. can go casual or dressy. but, if you’re not feeling it then you probably won’t wear it!

i love shopping and fashion, but loathe crowds. i would rather be anywhere but a mall. i know my sizes pretty well and do a lot of online shopping or single store shopping. i don’t shop often either; a few times a season. quality not quantity!

  • Sarah July 29, 2010, 8:04 am

I say return it all and go to a Banana Republic Outlet store. Same clothes, a fraction of the price. When I had to start buying professional clothes, I tried on a suit from Banana and it was $250. Then I went to the outlet (Prime in Orlando) and got the same suit plus 2 skirts, 2 shirts, and a casual jacket for the SAME PRICE!

Also, if you need to buy a lot of professional clothes regularly, it’s totally worth it to get a banana card. You get 15% off your first purchase, and I get cash back ($5-15) every couple of months! It’s awesome!

  • Chelsey July 29, 2010, 8:07 am

    DO NOT RETURN THE NECKLACE!!!!!

    I <3 it!

I looove clothes shopping – I love all shopping actually. Food shopping is my favorite though.

That outfit is super cute!! Way to be all professional!

  • Kelly @ Healthy Living With Kelly July 29, 2010, 8:12 am

I like the necklace. I like a bold necklace when dressing up a business suit. I also think it makes a statement about about your confidence!

  • Laura July 29, 2010, 8:16 am

I LOVE shopping! I’ve started figuring out what works for me and what I really like, so it makes shopping a little easier and more enjoyable.

I really like the necklace with the outfit. I think it makes it a little more polished and stylish. However, if you prefer a simpler, more serious look, lose the necklace. It’s important that you feel comfortable in what you’re wearing because it otherwise won’t look good.

You should love everything you buy.

  • Amanda July 29, 2010, 8:17 am

I can’t stand shopping for clothing. I hate spending money and I hate spending money on stuff that doesn’t interest me. The only way that I replenish my closet is the sale and clearance rack. I love to find a bargain so clothes shopping is tolerable when on a mission to find great prices. I work in an office that is business professional/ business casual and work on my small farm after work. I have to have clothes for every possible environment!

Food on the other hand….I could grocery shop daily and not get sick of it!

  • Jes July 29, 2010, 8:19 am

I’m okay with the necklace… I vote, if you don’t love it, you are not going to feel your best in it. I would return it and get something more in tune with your personal style and comfort zone. =)

  • RhodeyGirl July 29, 2010, 8:23 am

Banana necklaces tend to be expensive without being the best quality. It looks great on you, but if it was over $80 I would return it.. under, and it is a fun accent piece!

The thing is with something as distinctive as that- you can’t wear it that often. So if you would rather spend that money on another nice shirt or something, that’s what I would do!

  • Kelly July 29, 2010, 8:27 am

I am the same way! I love shopping for clothes online, but I hate going to the store and doing it! But I do love to go grocery shopping!!

And I like the necklace.. I think it would be a bold look for TV.. but if you do not like it or are not comfortable in it, then return it 🙂

  • Jackie @ carolina_vogue July 29, 2010, 8:31 am

That necklace looks fabulous and would look great on TV!

  • Kacy July 29, 2010, 8:35 am

I love shopping, but not for something specific – that’s too much pressure. I like to just go buy whatever calls my name haha.

LOVE the necklace actually. Especially because it’s a book tour and you need to look professional but not stuffy, you know? I think the necklace enhances the look 🙂

  • Sami July 29, 2010, 8:38 am

NYC book release is soooo exciting! you’ve got to be glowing with pride….if you’re not, you should be! all the incredible messages that this book puts out are total reflections of the kind of caring person that YOU are. what you’re doing for the self-esteem and confidence of these girls is phenomonal. 🙂 great job caitlin! and as for the necklace? you can easily pull it off! but i do the same thing a lot of times…once i get it home, i’m like….do i reallllllly need this?

  • Annie@stronghealthyfit July 29, 2010, 8:40 am

I like shopping online. I get tired of REAL shopping really quickly. My husband likes shopping way more than I do.
I think you could find a better necklace- maybe with some color? I would check out some vintage stores to find something unique to pair with the BR Republic clothes.

  • Andrea July 29, 2010, 8:44 am

I love the necklace on you. To be honest, I probably would have skipped it *for me* because I don’t think I look good in bold statement necklaces like the one you bought, but maybe I should reconsider. I think it looks great on you. But if *you* don’t love it, I’d return it. My rule is if it isn’t better looking than what I have, I skip it.

I don’t *love* shopping because I have a hard time finding clothes that fit and are flattering. When I do find a store or brand, I am loyal until a change in sizing or style on the store’s behalf. I loved Ann Taylor but not loving them since their “transformation” in the last year or so.

Hope a book tour brings you to St. Louis so I can get an autographed copy!

  • Katie @ Healthy Heddleston July 29, 2010, 8:48 am

Caitlin, I think that necklace looks wonderful on you. However, if you don’t feel comfortable wearing it, you’ll end up never wearing it, and thus should be returned!

For me, shopping really depends on my mood. I love shopping for dresses and workout clothes and I hate shopping for pants! Soo in the summertime shopping always seems more fun to me than in the winter time. Also, shopping is also more fun when you have money and don’t have to worry about “should I REALLLY buy this?” Hheehe.

  • Nicole Y. July 29, 2010, 8:52 am

I absolutely 120% LOVE shopping although I choose to be a very conscious shopper because I don’t like the whole mass-consumer, buy and throw away cycle. I buy certain clothing items at the mall or designer shops (jeans at AE or buckle, shoes at TJMaxx!!!) and then I buy vintage dresses, tops, scarves, jewelry and such at thrift & vintage shops! 🙂

I really like the necklace! I think it goes well with what we can see of the outfit! If you’re thinking it’s too dark or too “tough” looking you can swap it for an equal sized option that’s more “girly”, but I really enjoy it!

Do you ever wear your hair up? You have gorgeous hair, but I thought I remembered reading you had bangs cut in, maybe with the jacket and necklace you should pull your hair back with some side bangs? I dunno, just an idea!

    🙂 Good luck in NYC!

  • Katy July 29, 2010, 8:52 am

The necklace looks great on you! It’s beautiful! I think it adds a little something extra to yoru professional blazer, in a pulled together, stylish way.

Plus, the necklace is fairly neutral, so I’m sure you could make it work with lots of different outfits.

  • Marilyn July 29, 2010, 8:56 am

I like the necklace! It makes the typical work outfit less stuffy.

  • ashleigh July 29, 2010, 8:57 am

I love to shop, but I’ve really had to cut back!

I don’t love the necklace though and it seems like you don’t either. I’d rather save the $ for something else or for a necklace that I love!

  • Lauren July 29, 2010, 9:03 am

I LOVE that necklace. That being said, if its not something you see yourself getting a lot of use out of, return it & wait for something that speaks to you. 🙂

  • Tammy July 29, 2010, 9:05 am

I’m torn on the necklace..I kind of like it, but it dosen’t seem to go with that particular outfit…but if you don’t LOVE it, take it back and get something you absolutely love. As far as clothes shopping, I admit that it depends on how I’m feeling about my body..if I feel gross or bloated or have gained a few pounds, I hate it…everything feels tight and wierd…if I’m taking better care of myself, it shows in the way my clothes feel and I’m more apt to shop…

  • Sara July 29, 2010, 9:06 am

My favorite shopping is food shopping–I do NOT like clothes shopping. I feel like I always just pick what’s on sale, on clearance or just cheap (I’m cheap!) and then never look so great. But it’s hard being the youngest at work anyway, with the least money to spend on clothing … and how do you compare to a 40-something? Oh well! I just throw my hands up too!

  • Grapeful July 29, 2010, 9:07 am

I vote return on the necklace. Banana Republic’s jewelry hasn’t been all great the last couple of seasons. Can’t wait for your segment on the Today show!

  • Anne July 29, 2010, 9:08 am

I LOVELOVELOVE shopping! If I could make a profession out of it, I certainly would! 🙂

I also LOVE that necklace, but not with the jacket – the lapels on the jacket overwhelm it. Keep it, though, and wear it with a simple black or white silk tank 🙂

  • allison @ livingoneday July 29, 2010, 9:13 am

I LOVE IT!!! keep the necklace! i like shopping, but i definitely hear you on the overwhelming thing!!

  • Red Head, Yellow Dog July 29, 2010, 9:15 am

I did the EXACT same thing at banana republic about 2 weeks ago. I needed a suit, had no idea what I was doing and just went up to a sales rep and said help! Before I knew it I was in a dressing room with TONS of different stuff! I wish I could have given you the extra 40% off coupon I have!

  • Kimberly July 29, 2010, 9:16 am

    Return the necklace!

  • Dani July 29, 2010, 9:16 am

I like the necklace, but I wouldnt wear it with that blazer…its too much.

  • Kendel @ Eating Abroad July 29, 2010, 9:20 am

I say return the necklace and get something that is a bit more versatile. Versatile = no need to shop again.

  • Stacy July 29, 2010, 9:30 am

I love love love to shop! It used to be my only cardio 🙂
I say return the necklace if you aren’t totally sure about it. Otherwise you won’t wear it, and it’ll be a waste of money. Return it and buy something you love and makes you feel fabulous!

  • Ericka July 29, 2010, 9:32 am

Love the necklace! Keep it! I often find that if I buy something that’s a little bolder of a style choice than my norm, I end up loving it.

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin July 29, 2010, 9:33 am

I love shopping! It’s a bit of a problem for my bank account. 😛

I really like the necklace. I think it really makes a statement!!

  • Camille July 29, 2010, 9:36 am

Veeeerrry rarely do I like shopping. I could spent my entire life at Ikea or Bed Bath and Beyond, but put me in a Nordstrom and I just kind of want to cry. I always feel like I don’t need anything, so I can’t justify buying it.

  • Elizabeth July 29, 2010, 9:36 am

I think the necklace is really cute, but it might wear better with a more simple neckline, so it can stand out. It gets a little lost with the blazer. I’m like you and love to food shop and shop online, but I get a bit frazzled at stores from time to time. And the result is usually me buying something totally bizarre and not at all what I set out to purchase. 🙂

  • Joey July 29, 2010, 9:39 am

Hate shopping & don’t like the necklace… however if you like it and feel hott in it… GO FOR IT! Wear what YOU feel good in! 🙂

  • sarah k. @ the pajama chef July 29, 2010, 9:40 am

i like the necklace but be sure to wear it before the big day so you can be used to wearing a necklace that big if you aren’t already. i know i’m not so i’d need to practice first so i didn’t fidget with it! but it is cute!

Banana is the BEST place for classy professional looking clothes. Best part is everything in the store is pretty timeless so a lot of your purchases will be wearable for a few seasons…years even! I do like the necklace, but like you (someone who doesn’t LOVE shopping) statement peices sometimes intimidate me. That being said everyone deserves a few!

  • Jenn July 29, 2010, 9:54 am

If you feel uncomfortable, return the necklace. HOWEVER, especially for your trip to NYC, you’ll need some accessories. If you don’t feel comfortable with a necklace, try: (1) cuffing the sleeves of the jacket up a little (just one fold) and put a cute bracelet or cuff on; or (2) if the jacket is fitted enough get a thin belt and put it over the jacket, like a tortoise shell or patent leather in a color (even light gray would be cute).

    • Jenn July 29, 2010, 9:56 am

All of that said, I personally really love the necklace and think you look beautiful in it! I may go on line and buy it myself!

  • Patty M. July 29, 2010, 10:11 am

Keep that neclace. It’s a statement piece and the kind of accent you’ll be glad you have on both your trip to NYC, and in the future (to go with a simple black cocktail dress, to dress up a white tank, etc.) Very versatile. My work (I’m a lawyer) & weekend “uniforms” tend to revolve around statement neclaces – they MAKE outfits and you will wear them again & again (not to mention, get lots of compliments).
    🙂

  • Colleen July 29, 2010, 10:15 am

I’m like you and would prefer to buy running clothes as opposed to work/going out clothes 🙂 I think the necklace is great though. Think about all the plain tops you could dress up with that one necklace. It transforms your standard outfits!

  • ari July 29, 2010, 10:23 am

i love that necklace! don’t return it!

  • Jennaa July 29, 2010, 10:43 am

If you don’t want that necklace, I’ll take it. Lol. It is awesome. If you do return it, I’d replace it with something else. And – it isn’t too much for TV, especially not Good Morning America. If you get something else, you might want to add some color that will stand out on TV. Good luck!

  • greenbean July 29, 2010, 10:44 am

necklace is very nice! just pair it with some colors. have fun with your fashion this week!

    • greenbean July 29, 2010, 10:45 am

i mean, be you. but this is like your coming out party to the world. new changes, new job, new city…its all a chance to put your best foot forward and step outside your box a little more. just be the best you and have fun

  • Robyn @ Wannabe Writer Runner July 29, 2010, 10:49 am

Are you doing a book signing or anything in NYC? I’ll come say hi!

  • Tracy @ The Chameleon's Backbone July 29, 2010, 10:50 am

Love the necklace on you – it’s a keeper. When you are not sure about buying something…think about this. If the item costs $100, and you make $20/hour, is that item worth trading 5 hours of your life to have? When you look at money as the time it took to earn, buying decisions come with much less of a mental struggle!

  • Gracie @ Girl Meets Health July 29, 2010, 10:53 am

KEEP THE NECKLACE WOMAN!!! Sorry, I’m sort of biased towards any form of accessory. I think it will really make your outfit “pop” on tv.

  • caronae July 29, 2010, 11:16 am

That necklace is not something I would ever pick out for myself but I actually think it looks really good on you..it somehow matches your hair and smile!

  • Paige (Running Around Normal) July 29, 2010, 11:30 am

KEEP IT!! I love that necklace! Love! OK, don’t keep it – give it to me 🙂 haha

  • chrissy July 29, 2010, 11:39 am

its a cute necklace but you could probably get more use out of a delicate silver or white gold chain with a small unique charm on it.

as for maggie, my friend’s llasa apso was similiar. he hated walking. we’d get “training treats” to bribe him, eventually he didn’t even need them & he’d walk on his own.

  • Sara July 29, 2010, 11:40 am

Love the necklace!! My vote is to keep it. It looks gorgeous on you and it’s a great piece that you can mix and match with different outfits. You can never have too many of those pieces!

  • Laura in Pgh July 29, 2010, 11:59 am

I am so with you on the shopping. I hate it! With the exception of shopping for workout clothes …
Althought the necklace is cute and looks good with your blazer, I think you should return it. It doesn’t seem like you feel comfotable wearing it and that’s important!

  • anne July 29, 2010, 12:08 pm

You look great! Love the necklace. But don’t keep it if you don’t think you’ll wear it.

  • Rachel July 29, 2010, 12:19 pm

For me, there are two ways of looking at fashion.

    A. If you don’t love it, return it!
    B. Sometimes you need to step out of your comfort zone.

But remember, there will ALWAYS be another necklace!

  • Daniella July 29, 2010, 12:26 pm

I’ll be honest, I love the necklace! I can also imagine it with a black strapless dress for a nice dinner. I think it’s a great statement piece!

  • stephanie@Avocado Nation July 29, 2010, 12:27 pm

I am not so much a fan of the necklace, I think it overwhelms you a little bit. Banana Republic has great suits and they last forever. If you can get them on sale, even better.

I hate shopping for clothes too and only do it if I just can’t stand the sight of any of my clothes. Some of my favorites have holes in them and I still wear them! Yep, I’m classy like that.

  • Mary @ What's Cookin' with Mary July 29, 2010, 12:47 pm

I’m SO the same way!! I suck at clothes shopping… If I have to, I try to bring a friend with a great eye for fashion and have her tell me what to try on 😉 It’s not that I don’t want to look good or have cute clothes, I just don’t have the patience to pick through racks and try on item after item… food shopping though… I could do that every week… oh yeah, I do 😉 I’d much rather buy things to cook than to put on my body hehe

  • Kristen July 29, 2010, 1:17 pm

The necklace look very nice! However, if you are not comfortable then it is not ment to be, and I am a firm believer that looking good is feeling good.

  • stacey July 29, 2010, 1:20 pm

hmmm, i’m not a big fan of the necklace. but then again, i’ve never really liked big, chunky necklaces.

  • Rachel July 29, 2010, 1:27 pm

I would say definitely keep the necklace! A statement piece is what makes an outfit interesting – without it I think the top would look too plain. With it, you look stunning. 😀

(I hate clothes shopping, too. Although I like clothes. I just don’t enjoy the process of hunting through everything to find something good.)

  • Dez @ Dezolutions July 29, 2010, 1:42 pm

I agree with many commenters, won’t translate well on TV. A statement necklace should put a little more swagger into your walk. If you don’t feel swaggerific, return it (:

I LOVE shopping. But I make sure I do it at the right time. Super early in the morning, or if I have a weekday off, I go to avoid the crowds. The one thing I’m good at, is accessorizing! It can make or break the outfit.

A good tip for necklaces: When in doubt, match your eye color.

Yours are blue? Or green? Find a medium size chunky necklace, jewel tone to match your eyes, avoid perfectly circular ones because they can tend to look a little costumey.

    Maybe similar to this:

    Or a lil of this:

Good luck! (I promise its not spam, I actually found some great necklaces to get an idea from) (:

  • Dani July 29, 2010, 3:11 pm

I’ve been the same way with shopping ever since I was a little kid, but since I’ve come to the realization that I absolutely love it. What I learned made all the difference for me was only going shopping for leisure when I wasn’t frantically searching for something and under pressure, and–the key point–going alone! I know that sounds weird since shopping is usually an enjoyable pastime with friends, but it’s much more fun to go on your own and feel no rush or pressure at any of the stores. Hope that helps 🙂

  • Susan @ Journey for Health July 29, 2010, 3:11 pm

The necklace – I don’t care for it. BUT…I think that the shirt and jacket benefit from a substantial piece of jewelry. The size isn’t the issue, it’s just that I don’t care for that specific necklace. Good luck finding something 🙂

I loathe shopping for clothes. Being overweight, I have a horrible time finding anything that flatters me. Usually stores have the current trends and they don’t always flatter everyone. I also hate clothes shopping because I hate trying things on. I also hate that most stores are super HOT with heat-producing lights on all over the place.

I love shopping for my apartment, for books, for food (sometimes), but hate clothes shopping (for me). I can find all kinds of cute things for others, but never me.

Good luck with your new outfit(s). 🙂

  • virginia July 29, 2010, 5:37 pm

I LOVE shopping!…for anything really. fruit, clothes, shoelaces, chapstick…it’s kind of bad 😀

But something I’ve definitely learned through shopping, whether it be clothes, shoes, accesories, etc. is that if something’s a statement piece, if you don’t LOVE it, or if your first reaction is “ehhhhh I don’t think soooo” don’t keep it! You’ve gotta WORK those pieces, and to do that you’ve gotta feel supa sassy and CONFIDENT. There’s a difference between shy (ooh, I’ve never worn something so TRENDY before! I feel ALIVE!) and uncomfortable(I look weird and don’t see myself wearing this. I look silly.) Shy=good uncomfortable=bad

  • Jayne July 29, 2010, 6:40 pm

Love the necklace! I would wear it with a simple blazer+jean+tee combo to make it look dressed up and classy with little to no effort.

However, I agree with many of the above posts. It is a LOUD piece, and if you don’t feel excited about putting it on, you won’t wear it in the long-term. Return!

  • Stephanie July 30, 2010, 9:40 am

I love the necklace, but it seems a little hardcore for the outfit. Not sure if it seems like your style either??? I’d go for a pop of color (like turquoise or orange or green…or even red) with big beads, but only one strand. The extra strands and shiny metal make it a piece you really have to love.
