Cool Athletic Sunglasses?

in All Posts

My name is the Terminator, and I’ll be back.

IMG_7868

Does know of any COOL, inexpensive athletic sunglasses?  I got these for $17.99 and they are great for riding and running in – but they aren’t very pretty.  :)  I wore them on my 3 miler early and was thinking about how silly I feel in them!

Ryan gave me a million macaroons at the blog meet-up, and I cannot stop popping them in my mouth.  They are so coconutty and delicious.  I’m justifying by the fact they the fresher they are, the better they taste.  Gotta get them now!

My other snack was some new maple-flavored almond butter from Justin’s, which was amazing!  The jar was really pricey, but I’m thinkin’ it’s going to be worth it!

Dinner was courtesy of the Husband… he made a veggie, bean, and pasta dish and topped everything with some pineapples.

 IMG_7913
And dessert… MORE macaroons and some Ginger ice cream.

I am a bottomless pit today!  My training for the triathlon has revved up my appetite.  I might go munch of cereal now.

To all my friends and bloggies running the half marathon tomorrow, good luck!  🙂

That maple almond butter is REALLY GOOD. I cannot count how many I must have gone through since the Summer. Unfortunately, it’s a bit pricey.
Raw macaroons–you lucky duck. I just had one from an organic seller, and if I had a million I’d eat a million, too 🙂

  • Danielle (Coffee Run) March 6, 2010, 9:42 pm

haha I get all my sunglasses at Target (the classiest place to shop…duh)

Are those raw macaroons?? They sell those at my local store and they are seriously addictive

  • Bec March 6, 2010, 9:46 pm

Thats pretty much my fav nut butter ever, it just soooo good! I swear by my Oakley, they are not cheap but they do a great job of protecting my eyes and staying on while I am running, road biking, rowing, mountain biking, x-country skiing you name the sport! The pair I use for sports I got almost 8 years a go and they are still in tip top shape and I wear them all the time. Definitely worth the investment since I acutely like wearing them and they have lasted me forever 🙂

  • Matt March 6, 2010, 9:55 pm

I like my Oakley sunglasses 😉

I love that almond butter! I just bought a jar online last week and it is almost gone! MUST BUY MORE.

  • Jessica @ The Process of Healing March 6, 2010, 9:56 pm

    I like the sunglasses 😀 They’re cool!!

I have yet to try Justin’s maple but I have had Justin’s pb with honey. Very good. I can only find the snack packs though, not a jar. I’m a nut butter addict though so I’m sure i’d love that!

  • Diana @ frontyardfoodie March 6, 2010, 9:59 pm

haha gotta love the dorky glasses. You look adorable of course:)

  • 'Dee March 6, 2010, 10:04 pm

I’m afraid I don’t know of many inexpensive sunnies because I wear prescriptions! For distance – I’m nearsighted – so if I wish to read the street signs while I’m running, it’s kind of important 🙂 My current pair is Maui Jim’s and they are fabulous but nowhere close to $17.99 LOL. Wish I could wear contacts, but alas, it is not to be.

  • Alison @ finnyfinds March 6, 2010, 10:06 pm

    Your food looks amazing!

I get Ironman brand sunglasses from Target. Less than $20 and the look kinda cool if I say so myself 🙂

    • Shelly March 7, 2010, 11:46 am

I’m not sure what brand mine are, but they are from Target as well. They wrap around just a little, so they do a good job of protecting my eyes when it’s windy! (I originally got them to wear on my dad’s fishing boat, but discovered that they are good running sunglasses as well.)
The other best sports sunglasses I’ve ever had were fake oakley’s I bought on a school trip to NYC. They were so comfy and stayed on my face really well! But that was over a decade ago so I doubt that I would think they were cool if I saw them now!

  • LindsayRuns March 6, 2010, 10:07 pm

really? I think those glasses look fine! I’m on the search myself… after my oakleys got lost (sad sad day!) I’m just wearing “found” glasses that are way too big and fashionista for my taste!

  • Cynthia (It All Changes) March 6, 2010, 10:08 pm

I love nut butters! Special nut butters are a great purchase.

  • Annie March 6, 2010, 10:11 pm

Those glasses aren’t half bad! Right now I’m rocking out a big old pair of purple pair I found laying around. My overpriced shades broke not too long ago. A girl will just have to deal.

Sorry I don’t have any suggestions about specific brands of glasses. When in doubt I usually go to Target or local drug stores. 🙂

Good luck to all runners tomorrow!

  • Lo-Jo aka Lauren March 6, 2010, 10:15 pm

I actually think those sunglasses look good on you! I wear a cheap $15 generic pair I bought at a local sporting goods store. I don’t wear them for anything but sports, but it works for me! Oh I’d love some Oakley’s though.

  • Paige (Running Around Normal) March 6, 2010, 10:27 pm

Hahah love the sunglasses picture. Believe me, mine look even more ridiculous than that for sure. I don’t think there’s such a thing as “cute” running sunglasses!
That almond butter is freaking amazing. Love Justin’s in general, but the maple is awesome!

  • Sarah March 6, 2010, 10:40 pm

Oh, the Terminator. I am graduating from my master’s program in May … I’m get a degree in theology, on the ordination track, supposedly “godly” or whatever … and Arnold Schwarzenegger is speaking at my graduation!! I can’t wait to hear what he has to say … 🙂 (sermon material one day?)

  • Mara @ What's For Dinner? March 6, 2010, 10:42 pm

That almond butter is my absolute favorite… I can’t have it in the house because I eat it with a spoon until, well, its gone.

I’ve seen great athletic shades at Dick’s Sporting Goods, but I don’t know your budget…

  • Gabriela March 6, 2010, 10:43 pm

    Holy YUM!
    Delcious eats!
Loved the fresh pineapple – and your cool new sunglasses, by the way ;D
    Have an amazing Sunday, girl!
    Brazilian XOXO´s,
    Gabriela

  • Heather (Heather's Dish) March 6, 2010, 11:33 pm

mmmmmm…coconut macaroons and ginger ice cream! that looks incredible! what a great way to end the night 🙂

  • Michelle March 6, 2010, 11:46 pm

I can’t wait to get my hands on some of these macaroons that you are eating!! where can i find them?!?!? they look delish!

Honestly I just run in my regular sunglasses, which I splurged on about 9 months ago when i was feelin rich. lol, they’re big with white frames that totally wrap around and don’t even bounce! love-em! plus they cover up alot of my face which is a total bonus when i am feelin it after a long run! 🙂

p.s. you are totallyl motivating me to get my bycicle fixed up and start cycling! 🙂

    • Caitlin March 7, 2010, 1:40 pm

my only concern about wearing regular glasses when biking (not so much for running) is that the plastic on regular glasses isn’t shatterproof and can pop out your eyes if you crash!

  • Eating March 6, 2010, 11:57 pm

Your “terminator” glasses look much better than those aviators you’re wearing in your slurping pic to the left.

    • Molly @fuelherup March 7, 2010, 9:14 am

      SOME PEOPLE (ahem) are assholes.

    • Jo March 7, 2010, 12:55 pm

Meow, saucer of milk? Talk about a back handed compliment!

      • si March 7, 2010, 5:43 pm

        free speech

        • Caitlin March 7, 2010, 5:48 pm

free speech is fine, but that doesn’t mean people aren’t going to call you out if you’re an asshole.

  • kat March 7, 2010, 12:29 am

I hear you on the sunglass front as far as athletic needs go. They ain’t no D&G’s… but I found a pair of Smith’s a couple years back (I think I paid around $50 for them), and they are perfect running, biking, outdoor sports glasses. Lightweight, they stay on the old face well, and yes, I look a bit like “Aunold”, but I still love ’em and wear them daily. Good luck to all in the halfy tomorrow!

  • kat March 7, 2010, 12:31 am

I was a bottomless pit today too. Ya just gotta embrace the snack monster 🙂

  • Freya @ Brit Chick Runs March 7, 2010, 2:47 am

    Maple almond butter…I want some!
I’m going to really need some running sunglasses soon – this will be my first summer as a proper runner so I think it’d be worth the investment…
Good luck with the half today!

  • christie, honoring health March 7, 2010, 6:50 am

I’ve had my fair share of bottomless pit days, that is for sure. You just gotta go with and what a better way than with macaroons 😀

  • Susan March 7, 2010, 7:02 am

My athletic sunglasses are awesome for keeping wind out on the bike, but damn, I look like a dork in them. Please keep us updated if you find flattering ones!!

  • Andrea (canyoustayfordinner.com) March 7, 2010, 7:56 am

Looks like you had a really great day yesterday! I love how positive and energetic you are. It just improves my mood to read your blog!
I couldn’t help you with the sunglasses, but I don’t think the ones you have look bad. No, they’re not something you want to wear to look stylish, but you can pull ’em off!
    Have a happy Sunday!

  • jen trinque March 7, 2010, 8:11 am

I’ve seen that peanut butter at Earth Fare…I’m cheap, though! Maybe I’ll just mix some maple up with my regular peanut butter…mmmmm. My sunglasses are super dorky, too, so no good advice there.

  • Caitlin @ Right Foot Forward March 7, 2010, 8:55 am

I got mine at target as well. Love target! However oftentimes when running I’ll just use a hat.

  • Alison March 7, 2010, 9:08 am

ginger ice cream sounds like a great palate cleanser. it’s nice the ingredient list on it is so short too.

  • Heather @ Side of Sneakers March 7, 2010, 9:24 am

I have cheap sporty Ironman sunglasses from Target. I love ’em. Plus it makes me feel official cuz they say Ironman.

    • Caitlin March 7, 2010, 1:41 pm

Those are official ironman ones, too!

  • Jenn Eats Nutritiously Now March 7, 2010, 9:34 am

Honestly I think they look good on you! I wouldn’t call them the most cute sunglasses, but I’d wear them!!

  • kalli@fitandfortysomething March 7, 2010, 9:36 am

I am sure your appetite has reved up! Two a days will do that! Was the pineapple good on the pasta?

    • Caitlin March 7, 2010, 1:41 pm

it was interesting! i think pineapple tastes good with pasta sauce though… like on pizza.

  • Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) March 7, 2010, 9:51 am

Oh yum…I saw that nut butter in the store the other day and almost picked some up.

Your appetite must be skyrocketing with all your intense training. 😀

  • Jennifer March 7, 2010, 10:08 am

Check out Birdz Eyewear for sports-related eyewear!!!

  • kristi (sweet cheeks) March 7, 2010, 10:14 am

Hey I picked up that almond butter last week! Pretty good stuff.

    I’ve got a question for you…florida vacation related…is your email still seebriderun@gmail.com?

    • Caitlin March 7, 2010, 1:41 pm

      yes! email me!

You crack me up 🙂 I think your laid-back, light-hearted attitude has made your blog my fav. Also, that is my absolute favorite kind of almond butter- I seriously can’t keep it in the house!

    • Caitlin March 7, 2010, 1:42 pm

      thank you 🙂

  • Madeline - Greens and Jeans March 7, 2010, 11:01 am

I’m no help, my mom works for an eyewear store so she keeps me in sunglasses like whoa! I’ve gotta say, it’s worth dropping a little extra money for comfy light athletic sunglasses in my vast eyewear experience! Rudy Projects are my current favorite.

  • Beth @ fatbustermack March 7, 2010, 11:05 am

Optic Nerve has good looking sunglasses, but I’m not sure of the price. Justin’s is SOOO good. Have you tried the chocolate almond butter. It’s so good…

  • Amber K @ sparkpeople March 7, 2010, 11:07 am

oh my gosh, that pasta dinner looks absolutely FANTASTIC!

I have really ugly sunglasses too, but they do their job! Even if they were only $2.99 =)

  • Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday March 7, 2010, 11:13 am

I have the most hideous sport sunglasses too! I don’t really care much though because they do the job.

  • lauren @ Eater not a runner March 7, 2010, 11:18 am

I don’t blame you, those macaroons look awesome!

  • Julie March 7, 2010, 11:27 am

i just went to whole foods and bought the sample size of that maple AB .. I am so excited to try it!

  • Gracie (complicated day) March 7, 2010, 12:32 pm

You know what? I always find inexpensive sunglasses at GAS STATIONS! The kind of station that has all kinds of junk for sale usually has some sunglasses with plenty of UV protection and a low price tag. I had one pair for years and paid $3 for it; I think my current pair were $5!

    • Caitlin March 7, 2010, 1:43 pm

good idea!!! i need to hunt the gas stations.

  • beth March 7, 2010, 2:21 pm

I just wear my regular sunglasses, even though they are a tad bit heavier and big, i feel..errr…sexier…there i said it! I feel all J. Lo and stuff 🙂

  • Chelsea March 7, 2010, 3:15 pm

Check out this website for shades. I got a flyer in a race bag advertising this company. Shades are free, you just pay shipping. I just got my pair last week and they are pretty decent and very lightweight. They did excellent on my ride yesterday. Hope this helps!

  • Nicole March 7, 2010, 6:27 pm

I got my trusty run/ride sunglasses from Target. They are larger frames so they keep the sun out or my eyes really well, and they wrap around my head pretty snuggly (but comfy). They’re black and have a silver star cut-out on the sides by the arms – I think they still sell them there! 🙂 I think I paid $15 for them! Modern, super cute and functional!

  • Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) March 7, 2010, 9:27 pm

That almond butter sounds so good!! I have been loving maple flakes lately, which I recently found at my grocery store. I add a tsp on top of my oatmeal, which I also top with almond butter. The combo is great!
