A Little Bit at a Time

in All Posts

Morning.  Sorry for the delay – my sickness knocked me out, and it took an extra hour to rise from my bed.  I feel a little better now that I’m moving around.

Breakfast:

IMG_6775

My pumpkin oatmeal contained:

  • 1/2 cup oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup rice milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 sliced banana
  • 1/4 cup pumpkin
  • Toppings:  brown sugar, cinnamon, flax, almonds

IMG_6777

Nom, nom, nom.  Oatmeal makes everything (slightly) better.

A Little Bit at a Time

So, as mentioned, we’re moving to Charlotte in a few months (for business/personal reasons).  And that means I need to start thinking about packing our 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment.

Obviously, I’m not throwing stuff in boxes yet, but we’ve accumulated so much junk over the past three years.  So I’m going through the apartment and cleaning out drawers and closets, bit by bit.

I took a writing break yesterday to do the shelves.  Before:

After (Don’t you love snooping on people’s bookshelves? It’s kind of like going through medicine cabinets… not that I do that.  Feel free to click to expand.):

IMG_6767

Some improvement, right?  I’m giving about a dozen books to charity.

And today, I’m tackling the “junk drawers” in the kitchen.  This is scary.

IMG_6774

Ahhh.

I have lived in twelve different houses, apartments, and dorm rooms.  Crazy, right?  Well, the Husband has moved upwards of TWENTY times and has lived in England and Spain.

How many different homes have you lived in?

    Nine total. Four were college-related.

  • Erin (Travel, Eat, Repeat) February 10, 2010, 9:47 am

I spy “1000 Places to See Before You Die” on your bookshelf — great book!

I’ve lived in 16 different places, including college, England and South Korea. Whew! Hopefully my next move (the 17th!) will be the last for a while. 😀

  • Morgan February 10, 2010, 9:47 am

About 6. I HATE packing so much, and I think (I hope) we are moving again this summer. It’s never too early to start, seriously. I started going through drawers this weekend for stuff to give to charity!

  • Evan Thomas February 10, 2010, 9:48 am

I lived in 3 apartments before I was 2, but then 1 house my whole life. I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else until college

  • Run Sarah February 10, 2010, 9:49 am

8 difference places, mainly since graduation! I hate packing and unpacking so much and I am also a pack rat living in a 1 bedroom…it makes things difficult!

  • Tonyne @ Unlikely Success Story February 10, 2010, 9:49 am

    16. Holy crap. I’d never counted. I could even be missing some.

I love Charlotte, I hope you will as well! 🙂

  • Kristie February 10, 2010, 9:49 am

10 different places – soon to be 11. I really hate moving too! But, I do like that every time I move I have to go through my stuff and get rid of what I don’t need. I feel like whenever I end up moving into a more permanent home that I’m going to just keep accumulating stuff until someone makes me go through it all 😛

  • christie, honoring health February 10, 2010, 9:49 am

I have lived in probably 15 or 20 different places and where I live now is by far my favorite. Though, we do live a little farther away from the city than I would prefer.

  • Freya @ foodfitnessandfreya.wordpress.com February 10, 2010, 9:50 am

Woah 20!? That’s crazy! I’ve lived in 3 – I moved once when I was two, and I still live at home, but also half at uni, so I say three…wow, 20…that’s alot! How did he manage to move to the US? Did he get a job offer? It’s my dream to live over there 🙂
Glad you’re feeling a little better; I always find if I feel ill but still eat, I get better WAY faster – body still needs fuel even when it’s sick 🙂
    Have a fun day!

  • Jessica @ How Sweet It Is February 10, 2010, 9:50 am

I’ve only lived in 4 different homes. I love snooping on bookshelves, too. 🙂

  • Neely February 10, 2010, 9:50 am

11 homes… 1 dorm room. So strange to count!

  • Shannon (The Daily Balance) February 10, 2010, 9:51 am

glad you are feeling better – take it easy!

I believe i have lived 5 places — wow, not that much in comparison!

  • Megan February 10, 2010, 9:52 am

Two houses and my present dorm room!

  • amy February 10, 2010, 9:52 am

I’ve lived in 8 different places, and mostly houses — parents’ house, 3 group houses, one apartment within a house, and 3 dorms. I’ve never lived in an actual apartment building/complex (and I’m 25!)

  • Jenn @ Livewellfit February 10, 2010, 9:52 am

Let’s see…3 homes, 8 apartments. Hopefully we will be in this one for a good one b/c it’s my dream!

  • Megan @ Eat.Scrap.Run February 10, 2010, 9:53 am

I have lived in 14 different places! I have been in my house 4 years now and it’s amazing how much stuff I have accumulated when I don’t move every year or two. Moving used to force me to clean and reorganize.

I love cleaning out things. I have even looked at being a “professional organizer” but I can’t figure out how to make it a full time job yet.

  • Whit @ whitinspired.wordpress.com February 10, 2010, 9:53 am

Loving the Twilight books..obviously! I’ve lived in 8 houses (my dad was in the Marine Corps and we moved a ton), 1 dorm room, and 4 apartments. So a total of 13 different homes…whew!

  • Cynthia (It All Changes) February 10, 2010, 9:54 am

I’ve lived in at least 15 different places between being a military kid and all my college/post college moving. I’d say it’s probably closer to 20. But I’ll move every 5 years or so for my job so I’m constantly cleaning out.

  • brandi February 10, 2010, 9:54 am

good luck with the cleaning out/organizing!!!

I’ve only lived in 3 different places, if you count my parents’ house growing up.

  • Melissa (Project Bare) February 10, 2010, 9:56 am

I’ve lived in 11 homes/apartments/dorms in my life so far, which I never thought to actually count until now! Crazy! My parents are thrilled that I finally own my own house now–they hated moving me every year in college!

On another note, thanks for the post. I’m having a day where everything that I have to organize/accomplish seems overwhelming and you reminded me that nothing gets accomplished all at once!!

  • Jess February 10, 2010, 9:56 am

Its so funny you mention this. I’m in a course right now to think about homelife for people with intellectual/development disabilities and yesterday we had create a timeline of all the houses that we each have lived in. I have lived in about 11 different places.

  • Morgan @ Healthy Happy Place February 10, 2010, 9:58 am

packing is the worst! i’ve lived in 10 places

  • Laura Georgina February 10, 2010, 9:58 am

That kitchen junk drawer looks pretty good to me already!

Hmmm… Moved 25 times and have lived in Puerto Rico, North Carolina, Arkansas, Seville Spain, upstate New York, Montreal, Coventry UK, and now Trinidad. Eeeek! And Mr. Laura just applied for a job in Scotland. Needless to say, I always feel like I’m living out of boxes and have lost any ability to decorate a house properly!

If you like looking at other people’s bookshelves (I’m shameless at it!) check out this blog, all about that subtle art and obsession: http://www.lookshelves.com/

  • Meg @ Be Fit Be Full February 10, 2010, 10:01 am

I have become an expert packer & mover since I’ve moved so many times. I lived in the North End in Boston and lived in 5 different apartments just in the North End! Moving is not fun, but it’s always nice to purge after a year 🙂

  • stephanie February 10, 2010, 10:04 am

I’ve lived in about 20 places since childhood….now that I’m married to a military man, it’s only going to get worse! Hmmm, as a matter of fact we’re moving in 4 months. I personally love changing places =)

  • Lex @ sweettoothlex February 10, 2010, 10:06 am

Gahh – I have lived in 13 different places, in two different Canadian Provinces so far and looking for #14 right now.

    I (still)
    Hate
    Moving!

This is the first time I’ve ever looked back to count them all out and I honestly thought it’d be more than 13 but it’s still a crazy amount!!

  • Heather @ Side of Sneakers February 10, 2010, 10:07 am

I can’t remember how many, but this is the first year that I haven’t moved since 2002!!!!

  • Lex @ sweettoothlex February 10, 2010, 10:08 am

Oh – and one day I would LOVE to organize my books by color. It looks way too cool!

This is my 8th apartment/dorm room and my husband’s lived in 7. We have both moved every year since 2001. Wow, writing it just makes it sound terrible!

  • Deva (VoraciousVorilee) February 10, 2010, 10:16 am

I have been tackling organizing like that around our apartment lately, just to help de-clutter and make it easier for me to find what I need. It’s so fun to straighten up bookshelves 🙂

  • Tiffany @ A Dantat's Life February 10, 2010, 10:16 am

wow, awesome job on the bookshelf! it’s hard for me to throw things away, so the next time i move, i’m vowing to only bring what i really, really need. i’ve only moved once with my family when i was 13, and um… every August and May for 4 years, to and from college? haha. my next move will be out on my own… hopefully this year after i get my master’s?!? maybe?? scary…

  • Eve @ Nutrition by Eve February 10, 2010, 10:19 am

Wow some people have moved so many times!! I have lived in 7 places (1 house growing up, 3 places in college, and 3 places in NYC post college). Will be moving to my 8th next month so we can make a baby room 🙂

  • Katie@ Two Lives, One Lifestyle February 10, 2010, 10:20 am

wow, 12 and 20 are both big numbers! I’ve lived in 7 different apartments or houses, excluding the dorms from college 😛

  • Angela (Oh She Glows) February 10, 2010, 10:20 am

omg my family was the traveling circus…ive lived in 3 different states, 3 provinces, and about 12-13 houses.

  • katherine February 10, 2010, 10:25 am

I’ve lived in upwards of 14 or 15 places – kind of amazing when I think about it!

Glad the oatmeal helped a bit and I hope you’re right as rain in no time!

  • Chloe February 10, 2010, 10:26 am

ive lived in 21 houses in the UK and im 14, a bit cray but i like adventure! 🙂 x

  • Ellen Collis February 10, 2010, 10:27 am

Oatmeal DOES make everything better. Moving stinks, but I guess you’re a pro at it by now! Hmm…let’s see..I think I’ve only moved five times. My sister and I are thinking about moving to a different apartment, but moving is so tough in NYC! I did it once, not sure if I can do it again…yet. We were pretty poor the first time we moved, so we used a moving company we saw on Craigslist. The dudes were total hippies, and made us ride in the back of their weed-smelling van with all our stuff when we went to our new apartment. It was sketchy, but an experience for sure!

  • ashleigh February 10, 2010, 10:27 am

I never moved when I was growing up. My parents still live in the same house I grew up in and I’m 24. I have moved every year since college though so I have lived in a total of 5 places.

  • Tammy February 10, 2010, 10:27 am

I can’t believe you are moving! How do you feel about moving away from your Orlando/FL bloggie friends? I bet you will make lots of new ones. Running will definitely be different up there!!

    • Caitlin February 10, 2010, 10:30 am

it’s sad 🙁 but at the same time, i always knew we would be moving so its not a surprise.

  • Joelle (The Pancake Girl) February 10, 2010, 10:28 am

Gah, I’ve lived in 11, and 6 were for college/grad school. I kind of hate moving, although it’s fun to decorate haha.

    That oatmeal looks amazing!

  • kalin (eating machine) February 10, 2010, 10:28 am

i neverrr moved as a child-my parents have lived in the same house for over 30 years!
but in he 2.5 years i’ve lived in Portland I’ve lived FIVE places. I’m so glad we bought a house-I am DONE with moves for a long time now!

  • Marissa February 10, 2010, 10:29 am

I have lived in 4 places.

  • Sammi February 10, 2010, 10:30 am

Oh my, that’s a lot of moving! After deleting what was basically a novel in your comment box… technically four? One was when I was a baby, another was just a nice neighbor letting us stay there a couple months while our house was being built. I’ve also lived with my mom in two different places a little since my parents got divorced but that was just for a little under a week at a time (just using suitcases when I would go there).
I guess I’ll be moving soon when I transfer to a 4-year college though!
    (all in va)

  • Alisha February 10, 2010, 10:31 am

Ok, this is completely off topic and it may sound like a stupid question, but I am very serious, haha. How long does it take you to eat oatmeal?
I am not much of a breakfast person, so its hard for me to put something into my belly, but given that I’m in training and trying to eat more healthier, I figured eating breakfast is probably a good place to start. I follow a few of you bloggies and you all seem to live off of oatmeal as a breakfast choice, so I’m giving it a try. The texture of oatmeal kind of freaks me out and thats a big part of the reason why it can take sometimes up to an hour for me to finish a bowl (I usually make 1/2 cup + toppings).
Have you always liked oatmeal or was it something that you had to get use to? haha
    Or am I just crazy?

    • Caitlin February 10, 2010, 10:33 am

      haha you aren’t crazy!

hmm i would say 10 minutes – but i like oatmeal. 🙂 if oatmeal isn’t your thing, don’t make yourself eat it! there are so many other healthy breakfasts… pb sandwiches, shredded wheat cereal, granola and yogurt… find something you like to eat and it will make breakfast so much better.

if you are just starting to eat breakfast, i know some people have trouble getting adjusted to eating anything at all in the AM. it takes a little time to get used to it.

  • Heather (Heather's Dish) February 10, 2010, 10:37 am

wow, you guys are organized! we bought a house and didn’t start packing up until 3 days before the move…oops! i’ve lived in a total of 8 different houses/apts/townhomes during my life, but it’s all been since college!

  • Erin February 10, 2010, 10:39 am

Twelve seemed like a lot…until I started counting mine. I’ve lived in 16 different houses/apartments/dorms! Some of those only for a few months, though.

  • Lisa February 10, 2010, 10:39 am

I’ve moved a lot, especially as a kid. I think I’ve lived in 9 houses, but that included several trips across the Atlantic Ocean to and from the same houses in each move.

  • Kiersten February 10, 2010, 10:41 am

I’m in Charlotte too. What part of Charlotte are you moving to?

We moved a few months ago too. It took me weeks to pack up our 2 huge book shelves. Everything else way easy after that, lol. I’ve lived in 5 different places in my life (6 if you count one year of living in a dorm).

    • Caitlin February 10, 2010, 10:42 am

southern char? not sure. we’ll have to hang out!

  • Therese February 10, 2010, 10:43 am

I’ve moved 11 times. One was to (and then from) Japan. Six of these moves have happened in the last five years.

One of my best friends, who is only 32, has moved over 40 times!!!! Yeah, not the best of childhoods and then he just got used to being on the move (however, he has lived in his current condo with his partner for three years now).

  • Ashlyn @ Excogitations of a Running Nerd February 10, 2010, 10:46 am

Hey Caitlin! I wanted to send you a shout out from Charlotte-I know you’re going to miss Florida, but NC is not so bad :). Charlotte is an awesome city as far as cities go and there’s a great running community in this area!

Your shelves look lovely and random question: do you remember where you got them from? I’ve been looking for ones really similar to those to hold some things!

    • Caitlin February 10, 2010, 10:52 am

they are Ikea! i got them like 5 years ago though. i bet ikea still has them.

  • Amber K @ sparkpeople February 10, 2010, 10:47 am

Let’s see two different houses with my parents, and then post-divorce moved in with my mom. And so far five different apartments with my husband.

So I’ve lived in eight different places including my current pad. The only reason we have moved apartments so much is because our needs kept changing. First we shared a two-bedroom with a roommate, then realized we really needed a three-bedroom for the three of us. Then we had HORRIBLE neighbors that basically forced us to move into another three-bedroom. Then our roommate moved out so we got a one bedroom. Then we moved into a two-bedroom because we discovered we NEED more than one room and definitely more than one bathroom!

My husband and I desperately want to get a house this year. So hopefully we’ll be moving again soon!

  • Kelly February 10, 2010, 10:48 am

Charlotte is a beautiful city…I have only been there once to visit but it is gorgeous! I think you will really like your new digs! 🙂

  • Paige (Running Around Normal) February 10, 2010, 10:50 am

Glad you’re feeling (a bit) better:)
Ahhh the ever ominous junk drawers. No matter how many times we clean our out, it gets junky again in about a week!!

  • islandgirleats February 10, 2010, 10:50 am

I moved around a lot when I was a kid. You would have thought that parents did something illegal with the amount that we moved! I don’t even think that I could count the moves! But it has taught me not to collect stuff!

    Hope you feel better soon.

  • Retta @ RunRettaRun February 10, 2010, 10:53 am

My junk drawers are scary. I think we have one in almost every room. The thought of moving is scary! Good luck on getting things in order. Love the Twilight saga on your shelves! Hope you get better soon!

  • Ali @ Food, Fitness, Fashion February 10, 2010, 10:53 am

I have only lives in 4 different places (about to make it 5 since we just bought a house).

  • Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg February 10, 2010, 10:56 am

I’ve lived in…seven! (I had to count them up in my head!) Hope you feel better, girl!

  • laura dishes February 10, 2010, 10:59 am

It’s interesting to see how frequently people move!

I lived in 3 homes growing up (all in PA), 3 places in college, and post-college, I’ve lived in 1 place in Philly and 3 places in Atlanta. SO… 10 places total and I’m kinda tired of moving! 🙂

  • Kathleen February 10, 2010, 11:03 am

I’ve lived in 11 different places since I was adopted from South Korea and brought to the good ole USA….and most of those were in college. Eek…almost all my stuff is in a storage unit right now waiting for move #12 (I need to find an apartment first) so I am anxious to get moving!

PS, love the HP and Spanish/English dictionary! I have that exact one and laughed when I saw it on your shelf!

  • Lauren @ Eater not a runner February 10, 2010, 11:04 am

    Ten so far!!

  • Deirdre February 10, 2010, 11:07 am

I lived in the same house growing up and my parents still live there. I lived in 4 different dorm rooms in college. I have lived in the same apartment for almost 3 years now. So I guess only 6 places in total.
I hate moving. I don’t know how you do it. I’m a pack rat so I like keeping useless things like old movie tickets and magazines. Moving is tough on me. I still have tons of stuff in my parents house. When they move, its gonna be rough.

  • Judy February 10, 2010, 11:07 am

I’m quite a bit older than you, but have only lived in 7 different residences (that isn’t counting dorm rooms or apartments during college — that would actually put me past you I guess, but I’m old enough not to count that).

We lived in our last house for 15 years before moving this year. I am still getting rid of stuff . . .

  • Haleigh February 10, 2010, 11:11 am

Charlotte is a fantastic place to live. There are many outdoor activities around the area and the city has a lot to offer.

I have lived in 9 different places. 4 houses while growing up, 1 dorm, 3 different places in Sweden and now in NC.

  • Olga @ Healthing It February 10, 2010, 11:12 am

I’ve lived in 8 different homes/apts! One of them was a gross basement in Queens when I first moved to NY from Ukraine. That place SUCKED hahah

  • Leah @ L4L February 10, 2010, 11:14 am

I’ve lived in probably close to 15 abodes. All over WA, at least 8 times, once in VA, 2 in England, 1 in Germany.

  • LindsayH February 10, 2010, 11:24 am

I’m preparing for a move myself, though not until this fall. I’ve decided to start selling things off to simplify as much as possible! I hate moving and I want to have only what I need and love. I’ve only lived in a few different places, but we moved into our house in the middle of a blizzard and it was not fun!

  • Danielle February 10, 2010, 11:27 am

Hope you’re feeling better! And good for you for getting ahead on straightening up and packing 🙂

I’ve lived in ten different homes over the past twenty-one years of my life: four at home home, three at school, and three while studying abroad. Let’s see that makes New York state; Cuenca, Ecuador; Santiago, Chile; and Strasbourg France. Go me 😉 fun question!

  • Anna February 10, 2010, 11:28 am

Hmmm do dorm rooms count? If so, then 3 houses growing up in MA, 2 DC dorm rooms, 1 apartment in Nairobi, and 1 DC apartment. Moving is definitely a huge hassle- good luck with yours!

  • Bridget February 10, 2010, 11:34 am

Hope you are feeling better! I’m under the weather right now, too.

Let’s see: Home home, Tower A Floor 16, Phillips Avenue, Dithridge, Murray Avenue, Edgewater/Lockhart in Orlando, and Sano, Japan. That’s 7–soon to be 8 when I get transferred to Tochigi City at the end of July/beginning of August.

Good luck in your preparations for moving!

  • susan (stepping off the coaster) February 10, 2010, 11:36 am

you’re smart to get organized a little at a time… i always have such great intentions, and then in the midst of moving i hit the wall and just start throwing everything in random boxes!

i’ve moved a lot due to college and law school, but i love that my parents still live in the house all 5 of us kids grew up in. “home” has literally always been the same place for me…

  • Baroque Diva February 10, 2010, 11:36 am

Oy- Counting really suprised me! I’m on my 12th dwelling place and I’m moving again in June! Rent in Boston is just outrageous. I had 2 dorm rooms, 3 Ohio apartments in college, lived in Austria for a while, had 3 Boston apartments in grad school, now I’m on my 2nd grown-up apartment still in Boston, and getting ready to find a cheaper place (probably with roommates, or down-shifting to a studio…). WOW!! I also have a lot of STUFF, but I’m gradually taking it to goodwill and getting my closet under control Good job cleaning, Caitlin!

  • Emily Eats and Exercises February 10, 2010, 11:39 am

Hmmm growing up we moved only once when I was two. 5 different places in college (I transfered half way through), 1 in grad school, and 3 since then. So I guess that’s 11.
I hate moving but I’m ready to get out of my current place. Maybe one more year.

Your post made me start thinking about my junk drawers. I have way too many!

  • Courtney February 10, 2010, 11:45 am

I’m a moving pro based on having moved around 20 times in my life. I’ve used movers twice and I loved it, but it is expensive. I can move couches and boxes with the best of them!! Moving is a GREAT time to get rid of crap. When you just can’t pack one more box or can’t fit it in the truck, you know it is time to let go of some of the stuff. And when you still have unpacked boxes in your basement from your move a year ago, maybe it is time to let go of that too. (that was a hint to myself LOL!)

Ugh- I move every year as well. Only upside is you really cut back on collecting clutter… or so I tell myself that. But I still end up throwing out a lot every year… 🙂

  • Beth @ DiningAndDishing February 10, 2010, 11:48 am

I have lived in 10 different places in 24 years…England, 2 houses in Ohio, a dorm, South Carolina, 2 houses in Canada and 2 houses in DC. Looking forward to staying still at some point!

Hmm… We moved from apartment to apartment up in Madison when I was under 3… but then moved to this house we’re still in. Plus school–I’ve lived in four different dorms, including one in Rome, so I guess I’d put it at 6-9 times? But only the last five (moving from dorm to home to dorm to home to another country’s dorm to home to dorm to home!!) have given me any grief lol. I hate moving/packing/UNPACKING but it’s so fun to discover stuff you’d completely forgotten about!

  • Tasha - The Clean Eating Mama February 10, 2010, 11:54 am

It’s so hard knowing that all of your belongings are going to be packed. BUT it does help with getting rid of un-needed and un-wanted items!

  • Catherine February 10, 2010, 11:56 am

Wow… I haven’t moved that much at all! My parents are still in the same house I grew up in (they’re been there since 1977!) and I lived in a couple different places during college, lived in Alicante, Spain for half a year and have been in NYC ever since (only two different apartments though). Good luck with the organizing! I’m such a hoarder when it comes to my books, total abandonment issues when I try to give them away.

  • Julie February 10, 2010, 11:56 am

I’ve moved 7 times. I hate packing with a firey passion.

  • Jessica February 10, 2010, 12:02 pm

I have lived in 16 different places, including apartments, dorm and houses.

  • Elizabeth (The Dallas Celiac) February 10, 2010, 12:14 pm

I’ve only lived in 5 different places in my entire life: 2 houses when growing up with my parents, the dorm room at OU, and 2 houses (Oklahoma and Dallas) with my husband.

  • Kelli February 10, 2010, 12:14 pm

Stephen and I have moved 4 times just in the last year! Its been insane!!

  • Lee February 10, 2010, 12:18 pm

14 places! (Including different dorm rooms in college)

  • Jacquie February 10, 2010, 12:20 pm

I think I’m on 9 or 10 if you consider me being in Paris for a summer a place I lived. St. Petersburg, FL; Jacksonville, FL (first house, apartment, second house), Ellicott City, MD; Elon, NC; Hyde Park, NY; New York, NY; Paris, France; Washington, DC! wooo!
While I don’t like moving, I love living in different places. After graduation, I’d love to go back up to New York, but a part of me wants to just up and move to San Francisco for something new and different. We’ll see..

  • Mellissa February 10, 2010, 12:23 pm

8 and hopefully 9 soon if our house sells!

  • Ashley @ Good Taste. Healthy Me February 10, 2010, 12:25 pm

9 places for me! Moving is pretty exciting, but since we just bought a home we’ll be there for awhile! No more renting for me! 😀

  • Lauren February 10, 2010, 12:27 pm

Haha, I just have to tell you, I am always so intimidated to comment anymore because you always have 100’s of comment that I feel like you just get overwhelmed by reading them all all day long. THATS AWESOME how much everyone LOVES you girl!! 🙂

    Hope you feel better! 🙂

    • Caitlin February 10, 2010, 12:31 pm

aww i read all the comments 🙂 i love comments.

  • Nicole February 10, 2010, 12:36 pm

Have you heard about http://www.BookCrossing.com ?
Really short description, it’s a website where you sign up, register your book, and then leave your book in a public place to be found. It’s really neat!! You could do that with the books you’re looking to give away! I did that with several of my books and it was so awesome to see that they’ve been found, by who, and where they go!
    🙂

    • Caitlin February 10, 2010, 1:12 pm

      that site is AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • Karla February 10, 2010, 12:38 pm

I think I’ve lived 6 or 7 places. I always think moving is a little exciting despite the stress factor.

  • The Brunette February 10, 2010, 12:42 pm

I also love gettig the chance to peruse people’s fridge and pantries!

  • Emily February 10, 2010, 12:50 pm

I’ve moved 8 times. I’ve only lived in this current house for about 6 months now and I already need to go through my stuff! I’m such a pack rat!

  • Andrea @ Run, Eat, Date, Sleep February 10, 2010, 12:51 pm

I’ve lived in 13 different houses/apartments/dorms. But my family (mom, dad, brother, and me) have moved over 30 times between all of us. My dad jokes he should have invested in a U-Haul truck a long time ago!

Love that you have the Twilight books 🙂

  • Jessica @ The Process of Healing February 10, 2010, 12:52 pm

Wow your hubbie has moved a LOT!!! I’ve only moved 1 time, lived in 2 homes.

Yikes…. kitchen drawers are scary. Good luck!!1

And I love love love Harry Potter 🙂

  • Carrie H February 10, 2010, 12:55 pm

So, totally unrelated, but have you seen this interview? http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/ It is awesome. I LOVE Lady Gaga.

  • Chari February 10, 2010, 12:59 pm

Well over 25; I’m an Army brat and we lived in Japan twice before I even graduated from high school. In the past 20 years [while living in Orlando], I’ve lived in 8 different homes, including 4 that I’ve owned.

  • Samantha February 10, 2010, 1:00 pm

Fourteen, and I hope many more. I don’t like being in the same place/house for too long. I like change!

  • Katharine February 10, 2010, 1:11 pm

Eleven, if you count college! Whew, I didn’t realize it was that many. 🙂 Hope you’re feeling better!

  • Jill February 10, 2010, 1:18 pm

I have moved 12 times. Wow, that seems like a lot and I had never really thought about it before now. Also, I live in Charlotte and read your blog ALL the time, and I just wanted to say that I really enjoy it. If you have any questions about Charlotte and/or would like to get together when you come, it would be an honor to meet you!

    • Caitlin February 10, 2010, 1:19 pm

thank you! i cant wait to meet new friends 🙂 def get back in touch with me when i move… i would love to hang out!

  • Anne P February 10, 2010, 1:22 pm

I’ve definitely lived in about 25 different houses. Gotta love being an Army brat…

  • Gretchen February 10, 2010, 1:23 pm

I’ve lived in the house I was born in (was literally born in it), two other houses, two dorm rooms, one American apartment, and two French apartments. And some summer camps, where I feel I’ve spent enough time to count for something!

  • JenRD February 10, 2010, 1:30 pm

I have a question for you: what do you do with the leftover pumpkin once you open the can? Do you keep it in a tupperware in the fridge? How long does it stay good for? Your pumpkin oatmeal and pumpkin yogurt always looks so yummy, but I feel that I would end up wasting much of the can if I only use 1/4 cup at a time. Thanks!
    Jen

    • Caitlin February 10, 2010, 1:35 pm

yup i just open, tupperware it, and it keeps for about 1 week. i just bought large containers of pumpkin and i’m going to try freezing the leftovers – i’ll let you know if its works!

      • JenRD February 10, 2010, 1:36 pm

        Thanks!

      • Wendy February 10, 2010, 2:02 pm

Freezing should work just fine! I used to freeze canned pumpkin in “ice” cube when the kids were babies to use in their meals. They never complained. 🙂

  • Kim February 10, 2010, 1:55 pm

This is going to sound like a strange question, but I’ve been looking EVERYWHERE for floating shelves that were of the same color and (I’m guessing from the picture) quality of the ones you showed on this blog post. Where did you find them?

Also, I just happened upon your blog thanks to Google Reader and I’m enjoying it!

    Thanks!

    • Caitlin February 10, 2010, 1:55 pm

      yay glad you are reading!

they are from IKEA but they are a bit old – hope you can find them!

  • Wendy February 10, 2010, 2:01 pm

I am on home #6, but anticipate moving to a different house sometime in the next 1-2 years.

  • kirsten February 10, 2010, 3:35 pm

just curious, why do you spell Katie with a K instead of a C? I noticed on the cute drawing on your bookshelf.

    • Caitlin February 10, 2010, 3:38 pm

is that weird? it was my parents choice to name me caitlin and call me katie. i was katie until i was about 22. most of my old friends call me katie!

      • kirsten February 10, 2010, 4:03 pm

        Oh that’s cute! I love K names 🙂

  • Lisa M February 10, 2010, 4:41 pm

I’m in the same cleaning mode right now Caitlin, prep for a nursery, and I am having a hard time with books.
How did you decide what to get rid of? I wanted to try and do a book trade with someone but charity is a great idea as well. You’ve inspired me! I’ve seriously been putting it off for three weekends now.

    • Caitlin February 10, 2010, 4:44 pm

i just always think – will i miss this if i threw it out OR have i used in it the last year?

  • Lisa M February 10, 2010, 5:05 pm

I totally hear you but I don’t know what it is about books. I RARELY even reread the books I love! Funny story about keeping stuff…
I moved a few years ago after being in a place for like 5 years and I had two boxes in my closet that I hadn’t unpacked since the last move! Goes to show you…but even then I found myself looking through to see if I wanted anything. I had to slap myself silly:)
Good luck with the junk drawers!

  • Ashley February 10, 2010, 5:14 pm

i love your itty bitty spoon. where did you get it!??! i want one!

    • Caitlin February 10, 2010, 5:23 pm

      crate and barrel!

  • Nicci@NIftyEats February 10, 2010, 5:17 pm

Oh, I hate moving but I may be doing it again after summer time. I said once we get the washer and dryer into the upstairs apt…were not going anywhere. lol

I’ve lived in 9 different houses, dorms and apartments included.

  • Anna February 10, 2010, 6:57 pm

I’ve lived in Charlotte all my life until a year and a half ago when I moved to Charleston, SC for grad school. My husband and I will be moving back to Charlotte, also at the end of April. If you ever need any help finding your way around or new places, let me know! What part of Charlotte will you be living in?

I have moved a ton as well! I think something like 12-13 times in the past 7 years. Whew!

    • caitlin February 10, 2010, 7:59 pm

we;re not sure yet… we need to find a place! thank you 🙂

  • Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) February 11, 2010, 1:09 am

I am in my 6th home. 4 with my family, and the hubby and I have been in 2 🙂

  • Sarah February 11, 2010, 7:09 am

I don’t feel so bad reading your blog and the comments about how many times I’ve moved! Just counted it up: 17 apartments, houses and (1) dorm room. 5 states, 2 countries (US and Australia)! Hopefully another country soon 🙂
