Pancakes or Waffles?

in All Posts

Good morning!  The camera crew is coming back today, but I don’t have to do much this time.  The focus is on the Husband (and he’s a little nervous). 🙂

After all that Thai food and beer last night, I wanted a calm and stabilizing breakfast:

I made waffles using this mix, which I received as a sample from FlaxMatters.

As far as waffle mixes go, the simple ingredient list is pretty appealing.  And it’s delicious!

Topped with Greek yogurt and almonds:

The Importance of IDs

I had two people send me this article yesterday.  It’s about a female jogger who was struck by a bus and did not have identification on her.  The hospital treated her, but they had no way of identifying her and couldn’t reach her family.

This is why you NEED a RoadID if you run or bike outside!  I consider this to be a very real safety issue.  Please, please read the article and get workout ID if you don’t have any!

Poll Time!

I used to be a pancake girl, but since I started to put Greek yogurt on waffles, I have converted!  I love waffles.

The great debate continues…. Which do you prefer, pancakes or waffles?

Waffles!! For the same reason…I use nut butter and Greek yogurt on my waffles and it just doesn't work so well on pancakes.
So glad the taping went well! Good luck to the husband today!!

Funny – I love both equally. To me, they are very different foods as I use different batters. With that said, our waffle iron broke and I haven't had them in forever!

As for the road ID – I have one and always wear it when I am out alone. And – I tell my husband the route I plan on taking.

I prefer waffles! 🙂 YUM! I just had some with AB, fruit spread & fresh raspberries!

Thanks for sharing that article & the road id reminder. I forgot my drivers license when I was running this AM and thought about what would happen if something did happen to me. I did have my cell phone that has an emergency contact listed, but the person who was looking would have to know where to look. I am going to order the road id right now. THANK YOU!!!

    Have a great weekend!!

Definitely waffles with PB2 and Blackberry All Fruit spread! Gosh… I need to buy a waffle iron…

Tell your husband to relax and have fun!

I prefer pancakes. I have a belgian waffle maker and the waffles are a little too thick for me. If I had a regular one, I'd probably enjoy waffles as much as pancakes.

  • Jenn Eats Nutritiously Now September 5, 2009, 6:33 am

I don't prefer one over the other. I like them both at different times.

  • Madelin September 5, 2009, 6:45 am

Pancakes forever 🙂 Honey, sugar and lemon, maple syrup, fruit and yogurt, fruit filled… so good!

  • Nicci@NiftyEats September 5, 2009, 6:52 am

I love fluffy pancakes too much, I have to be in the mood for waffles. Thanks for the article I'm waiting on my road ID in the mail, ordered earlier this week. I tend to run on a road late in the evening with many cars.

  • *Andrea* September 5, 2009, 6:53 am

i don't eat either on a regular basis (onlyif out for bfast at ihop or something lol) but i much prefer fluffy chocolate chip banana PANCAKES 🙂

good luck w ith the rest of filming! i can't wait to hear deats;)

  • Mrs. LC September 5, 2009, 6:56 am

Depends on my mood – last weekend I wanted waffles. Right now I want pancakes. 🙂

It's definitely important for not only female joggers to have identification on them, but male joggers too. I feel like so often the focus is put on females, because in some ways there may be a few more risks. However, about a month ago while visiting my parents, my husband was out jogging and he didn't tell anyone where he was going. I assumed he'd stick to his normal 3 mile path here, but time keeps passing and even an hour later he still wasn't back. So we went out and looked for him. Finally he made it back home (he decided to do a new 7 mile route), but it caused a lot of worry and stress.

The point is: 1. You should always plan out your route beforehand and tell someone, and 2. I would have felt much better if I knew he had a RoadID or some other identification on him. Or even a cell phone for emergencies.

Tell Kristien to rock it today!!! I can't wait to see the finished product!!

  • Susan September 5, 2009, 6:57 am

I go in phases. All summer I've been on a waffle kick because they're so easy on hot summer mornings (I freeze a lot of them). But come wintertime, I know I'll be craving the comfort of a pile of hot pancakes drizzled in maple syrup 🙂

And what about french toast!? That's pretty darn good too! 😛

  • K from ksgoodeats September 5, 2009, 6:58 am

I think I'm more of a waffle girl but there a period where I loved pancakes (especially chocolate chip)!

Good luck to the hubs today!!

  • Paige@ Running Around Normal September 5, 2009, 6:59 am

I'm def. a pancake girl, but then again, I don't have a waffle maker, so maybe if I did….

  • Stephanie September 5, 2009, 7:09 am

Depends on what mood I am in. They have very different tastes. Most of the time it's waffles but sometimes, I just want pancakes!

  • Heather September 5, 2009, 7:15 am

Waffles! Especially with some chocolate chips in the batter!

  • angieinatlanta September 5, 2009, 7:24 am

Mmmm…I love fluffy Belgium waffles! I'd pick that every day!

Me thinks I need a waffle iron; your breakfasts always look so good!

  • Missy September 5, 2009, 7:37 am

Chocolate chip banana pancakes! Maybe if I had a waffle maker I would crave them more!!

  • Julie September 5, 2009, 7:38 am

Waffles! Actaully my heart belongs to french toast, but between pancakes and waffles, waffles win. Pancakes are too…cakey.

  • Joelle (The Pancake Girl) September 5, 2009, 7:44 am

    PANCAKES! 100%.

  • peanutbuttr plz September 5, 2009, 7:47 am

waffles! the little nooks are perfect for holding syrup and various other yummy things.

  • Jenna September 5, 2009, 7:49 am

sounds like a great morning breaky!
    i definitely prefer waffles 🙂

  • Megan @ Megzz Wins At Life September 5, 2009, 7:58 am

pancake girl all the way 🙂

  • Megan @ Megzz Wins At Life September 5, 2009, 7:58 am

pancake girl all the way 🙂

  • Matt September 5, 2009, 8:00 am

Pancakes for sure. I had a massive stack this morning!

  • Courtney September 5, 2009, 8:22 am

Waffles!! I always find pancakes to be too dense and they just sit in my tummy. I don't eat either very often, but if we go out to breakfast as a treat I will order waffles, usually after a 5k!

waffles…with bananas and pecans! I never make them though, I need to follow your lead.

  • Shannon September 5, 2009, 8:40 am

Pancakes w/ almond or peanut butter all the way 🙂

I take my blackberry with me when I run. I had someone tell me to put "I C E" (In Case of Emergency) as one of your contacts, so cops/EMT/etc. could contact someone if need be since so many people have nicknames in their phones. The road ID is a really good idea.

  • Jenny September 5, 2009, 9:09 am

my heart will always belong to waffles. Don't get me wrong, I definitely wouldn't complain eating a good ol' flapjack but there's just something about the thickness and crunch of waffles and the nooks n' crannies.. swoon. I want one now.

  • Kiersten September 5, 2009, 9:09 am

That's a tough one, I like both of them! I think I lean slightly more towards waffles though. Maybe that's because I just like using my waffle maker.

  • Meganerd September 5, 2009, 9:13 am

I like waffles because I can't make them here. 🙁

Can I come over and you make me waffles??! 😀

  • tracik September 5, 2009, 9:18 am

Pancakes are still my all time favorite! Thanks for the reminder on ID importance. I can't believe all these years I have been running and still don't carry ID with me. Putting that at the top of my To Do List.

  • Sugar & Spice September 5, 2009, 9:27 am

    Waffles!! Hands down! 🙂

  • Britt September 5, 2009, 9:27 am

Depends, dining out… pancakes. Dining in… waffles. I get to actually top my waffle with what I want at home, most places don't have the fun toppings I would like usually. 🙂

Agreed on the Road ID. I have the one that velcros to your laces. So easy to move from one pair of shoes to the other and I always know where it is.

  • Leianna September 5, 2009, 9:39 am

Road ID it is than, I've almost been hit by cars several times! Waffles with greek yogurt for me too!

  • Taylor September 5, 2009, 10:09 am

You're so right. After reading about so many bloggers who carry their IDs, I really need to get on that when I start running again. I never used to think about it.

I always say I like pancakes more, but homemade waffles are delicious!! But French toast wins it all!

  • Deva (Voracious Vorilee) September 5, 2009, 10:16 am

Waffles because they're crispier and have compartments. when I was a kid I loved to fill the little squares on my waffles up with syrup or jam or fruit. I still like putting blueberries in the compartments!

  • Katie September 5, 2009, 10:17 am

I used to think this was such a tough choice, but I'd have to say….waffle please!

  • Sleepdreamdress September 5, 2009, 10:28 am

I'm a 100% waffle girl. But having to clean the waffle iron is another story….so I stick with pancakes cuz I'm lazy. 🙂

    Maggie

  • Chloe (Naturally Frugal) September 5, 2009, 11:11 am

Neither! I am a savory breakfast type of girl, and probably have waffles of pancakes maybe once a year. I say bring on the eggs and hash browns!!!!

Good luck to your hubby today, I can't wait to see the finished product!

  • Liz September 5, 2009, 11:25 am

Hmm…I have to say I'm on the pancake side. However, I have never tried waffles with greek yogurt, which sounds pretty dang delish, so I may convert. Have fun today miss celebrity 😉

  • brandi September 5, 2009, 11:43 am

i'm so glad the filming is going well!!! so exciting 🙂

hmm…i like them both! it depends on what I have for toppings, but I'll eat either one.

  • Lisa September 5, 2009, 12:48 pm

Thats a great article. I actually have a high school friend who was recently out for a bike ride and unfortunately had a similar incident. Stories like these really make you more conscious of your surroundings and cause you to think more about your own personal safety when you're out and about.

  • Jessica E September 5, 2009, 1:25 pm

Thanks so much for posting the article.

  • Kristin (Kristin's Nibbles) September 5, 2009, 1:56 pm

    Waffles, all the way!

  • Jen September 5, 2009, 1:56 pm

RoadId's are the way to go. I love it.

    Waffles all the way!

  • Kristina September 5, 2009, 5:29 pm

    Pancakes! 🙂

  • shawna September 5, 2009, 6:05 pm

I love waffles with greek yogurt and berries, but I love pancakes with bananas and walnuts.

  • Oz Runner September 5, 2009, 6:30 pm

waffles, definitely…topped with peanut butter and bananas

  • Melissa September 5, 2009, 7:27 pm

    I'm 100% a waffle girl!

  • Caroline September 5, 2009, 9:03 pm

Pancakes! That way they can have all sorts of mix-ins without getting stuck in the waffle maker:)

  • Sara September 5, 2009, 9:11 pm

That accident happened about ten minutes from where I live! Needless to say, my RoadID wristband is shipping on Monday.

  • chipped nails and all September 9, 2009, 6:43 pm

I love me some waffles! Pancakes just have too much of a doughy taste to them.
