Lights, Camera, PUPS!

It was the Husband’s turn to be interviewed!

He did a great job!   Filming is now officially over, and when the video is done in a month or so, I’ll be sure to share.

I had a light lunch around noon.

Two little whole wheat bagels with melted cheese and sprouts:

And raw veggies and 1 cup of tomato soup:

After lunch, our friend Harry came over and asked if we wanted to go to the animal shelter to look at potential puppies.  He’s been thinking about getting a doggie for a while.  I’ve never been to the Orlando shelter and I must say, it was pretty nice for a public facility.

(All of those pups had already been marked for adoption! Yay!)

We have a pretty high "take home" percentage.  The Husband jokes that we’ve been to an animal shelter a handful of times and twice we’ve left with a pup.  We found a little lady that I was absolutely in love with.    She was a lab mix and just so friendly.  :(  I wanted her.

Harry didn’t find a special friend… maybe next time!  Adopting a dog is serious and, like any responsible person, he wants to be 100% comfortable with his decision.  I wish more people were like that…

After the shelter, we all went to Dandelion CommuniTea for a nice vegetarian linner (lunch/dinner?).

I sat on the pimp couch:

Instead of a wrap, I decided to just order the hummus appetizer, which is a meal in itself.  I nearly finished it all!

And about three glasses of this delightful tea!

Going to relax now…. I’m pooped and need to rest up for the 11.0-mile run that’s on my training plan tomorrow!

Are you a sucker for a furry face?  Have you ever adopted a pet from a shelter?  Both M and J are from shelters. 🙂

Glad the interviews went well! Our dog is a Rottweiler rescue, and she's almost 9!!!

  • Jenna September 5, 2009, 2:42 pm

good luck on yout run tomorrow!

  • Leianna September 5, 2009, 3:05 pm

I always adopt my kitties from shelters! They are such prescious animals and knowing they are going to better homes makes my heart melt!
That hummus plate and tea looks delish!
Good luck on the run tomorrow!

I am a total sucker for animals! If my husband wasn't allergic, I would have way more than the one I force on him LOL!

My first cat was from a shelter and she lived for 18 years, our current cat was a stray who found us.

I am excited to see what the video was for!

  • Kelly September 5, 2009, 3:08 pm

You know Oliver is a rescue dog. There are sooo many pups out there that need homes. I hope Harry finds a furry friend to love and take care of.

  • Gina September 5, 2009, 3:12 pm

Our dog is from a shelter. We were actually looking at adopting another one about a week ago, but they didn't seem to get along well and didn't want to put them in the same house together. He's not on the website anymore, so we're hoping a loving family adopted him!

  • VeggieGirl September 5, 2009, 3:12 pm

Yep, my dear Chooey is a (former) shelter pup!! 🙂

  • Julia September 5, 2009, 3:21 pm

Awww puppy friends! One of my parent's cats if from a shelter. The other we got very much by chance. My parents were on a bike ride through some fields (it was in IL there are fields everywhere), when all of a sudden a kitten ran out from the side of the road. My mom got off her bike and checked it out, there were three kittens in the box!
After they finished the ride she went and picked the kittens up and took them home, where we bathed them (they had tons of flees). Anyways, we kept two of them (the other we gave to a responsible young lady. We named them Cleo and Pepsi. Cleo lives with my parents now. Pepsi came to live with me when I moved into a loft my junior year of college. Unfortunately, Pepsi passed away last summer from kidney failure. Cleo is alive and a happy furry kitty. I hate to think about what would have happened to them if my mom hadn't found them that day!
    Have a great day!

11 miles?!? You'll rock it! Good luck!! That hummus looks soooo good. Are those sesame seeds on top? Haha and my family always called it Linner too! I never liked the word – it always reminded me of liver. Yuck!

  • Jenny September 5, 2009, 3:31 pm

ah I finally figured out what the cameras are for.. 60 minutes is doing a documentary on the cutest couples in America.. am I right? 🙂

  • recipesforcreativity September 5, 2009, 3:32 pm

TOTAL sucker for a sweet face. My kitties both showed up at the inn where I used to work – one in September three years ago, one a month later. They needed homes and I happily obliged 🙂 Just recently a friend asked if we could take a youngish cat she couldn't keep, and I REALLY considered it, but my current kitties wouldn't have liked it!

  • Julia September 5, 2009, 3:40 pm

I am a sucker for cats. One time, our family rescued 4 tiny tiny little kittens from the street and found families for them 🙂

  • Erica September 5, 2009, 3:41 pm

Glad the husbands interview went well! I cannot wait to see this special 🙂 <3 the puppers. I've only tried adopting once 🙁 but…I would be up for it again (despite the experience!). Hope you have a wonderful night chica

  • ohonemorething September 5, 2009, 3:48 pm

Adopting a pet is the best way to go! I adopted my little nugget and I am so grateful for her!

Buttercup rooibos? That sounds amazing! I love roobis teas and this sounds like it could be a fave! Cute mini bagels 😀 Oh! And I use the word "dunch" to describe the combination of dinner and lunch lol. Take care!

    XO

I am a pretty big sucker for any kind of animal … my husband really wants a dog, but I think we are too busy at this time in our lives, and so we are going to wait a couple years. Can't wait though!!

  • Kim September 5, 2009, 3:57 pm

Good luck on your run in the AM!! 🙂

Can't wait to see the video.

  • Stephanie September 5, 2009, 4:05 pm

My lil girl Lucy is from a shelter, when she jumped up and rested her paws on my lap as I sat on the chair I just fell in love 🙂 She is the best dog I could have ever asked for!

  • jesstyler September 5, 2009, 4:05 pm

Can't wait to see the video!

Both our cats were from a shelter. They are the BEST cats ever. I can't believe how lucky we got. Of course, THEY picked US. And we couldn't be happier.

  • Kathleen September 5, 2009, 4:07 pm

Glad your interviews were a success!

My boyfriend and I rescued a 4lb chihuahua from a shelter in St. Peter, MN (12 miles from where I go to school) and it was the best decision we have ever made! I am 100% behind responsible, well-planned, thoughtful adoption from shelters. Her name is Dolce and she has brought so much joy to my life!

  • Rosey Rebecca September 5, 2009, 4:14 pm

My beagle was from a shelter. We were about to leave and the lady was like, wait we have one more in the back, and out she came. It was love at first site! I miss her.

  • Paige@ Running Around Normal September 5, 2009, 4:26 pm

Those dogs are adorable!! I can't go to a shelter, or I leave feeling sad, sad, sad.

Our cat's from the shelter, and Shane and I both went, fell in love with her, and now she's ours! This is after he said "No PETS" before I moved in with him, too 😉

  • MelissaNibbles September 5, 2009, 4:30 pm

Yea for shelter animals! We always got out pets from shelters when I was growing up. I'm so glad you got yours from shelters as well.

    Good luck on the run!

  • Lauren September 5, 2009, 4:36 pm

Wow Caitlin, this is some serious stuff. How exciting for you! I can't wait to hear all about this debut.

Funny, same thing happened to us 3 years ago. We went "just to look" at those furry little darlings and came home a few hundred dollars poorer but oh so much more enriched with the love of our life…Sammy! They really get you, it's such a trap. 🙂

Good luck on the 11 miler tomorrow. You are doing awesome with the training plan.

  • inmytummy September 5, 2009, 4:51 pm

    Cutie dogs.

I adopted my dog from a Golden Retriever Rescue.

  • Kristina September 5, 2009, 5:32 pm

I work for a large humane society, and I ALWAYS adopt 🙂

Right now I have two brother cow cats (black and white), a Rott/Shepherd mix, and a Greyhound.

Love seeing pics of your pups! My last dog was a beagle/dachshund mix with three legs. She was primarily doxie…and the sweetest dog in the world. We miss her!

  • Angie (Losing It and Loving It) September 5, 2009, 5:58 pm

Glad to hear filming went well. Looking forward to hearing all about it.

When I was young we had pets adopted from animal shelters. Hubby and I had to put down our Basset Hound last Tuesday (I'm still heartbroken over that) and we have talked about getting another but we'll most likely go back to our Basset Hound breeder for another puppy.

But I will be donating all of our dog food, toys, bowls, etc. to a local shelter here soon.

  • traveleatlove September 5, 2009, 6:40 pm

I have been volunteering at an animal shelter weekly for 2 years, and it is SO hard to not bring them home!So many are there for weeks and even months, so I totally bond with them! Thanks for posting on this, shelters up in MA are so full with the economy being so bad.

  • Kelsey September 5, 2009, 6:41 pm

my baby [a cat 🙂 ] was adopted from a shelter over 10 years ago! if i could, i would adopt as many cats as i could. but, alas, i live in a college dorm…
can't wait to see the footage!

  • Heather September 5, 2009, 7:43 pm

I definitely believe in getting animals from shelters! It makes me really sad that people buy from breeders (and spend a LOT of $$$) when there are so many beautiful animals in need of homes at shelters! I can't get a dog yet, but when I do, I know that I will adopt.

DANDELION! Love it and haven't been in a long, long time. Love the pimp couch 🙂

  • wholebodylove September 5, 2009, 8:06 pm

My mom is a Humane Services investigator and she is the president of Chihuahua Rescue USA for Illinois so I have to be really careful not to fall too hard for one of her rescue foster dogs! I brought one home without talking to Mallard once… she eventually went back throught the rescue system. It's so hard when they look at you with those sweet faces. But, we already have two dogs. Mine was brought to my apartment after a friend found him malnourished, missing teeth and with a broken leg. Mallard's dog was a pound puppy!

  • Mellissa September 5, 2009, 8:26 pm

Who isn't a sucker for a cute face! We were at the MN Fair today and they had the Greyhound rescue there, I was so ready to come home with one, but alas we just aren't home enough to love a dog properly.

  • Amari September 5, 2009, 9:29 pm

While I frequently visit the local animal shelters sadly I have never adopted a furry friend for myself. As much as I would love to have a dog in my life, my life is too busy and hectic for a pet right now and it wouldn't be fair to a dog if I didn't have time to spend with it. Someday though, I will continue to dream!

  • Menden @ Skinny Menny September 6, 2009, 4:24 am

My dog Zoe is from a shelter! I found her / she found me in 2001…I was a lot like your friend Harry, though. I looked for a long time until I found the dog that was JUST right for me! 🙂

  • Ashley Lauren September 6, 2009, 4:47 am

My sweet pup is from the Humane Society! People are always shocked-he's a beautiful purebred dalmatian! I'm always shocked when people tell me what they paid for their purebreds….

  • Lauren @ Dragonflies Journey September 6, 2009, 6:05 am

We got Joie from a puppy farm, but she was a "rescue" in our eyes because she was from Lancaster and if we didn't take her she would have been sent back there to be a work dog!!! NOT OK!

  • Oh She Glows September 6, 2009, 6:07 am

I'm a total sucker for animals. In fact I am thinking about rescuing a greyhound. I need to look into it though as I havent done any research on the breed much yet. All of our previous dogs were rescues. I also used to volunteer at an animal shelter. LOVE ANIMALS!!!!! So precious and loving.

  • Lizzy September 6, 2009, 6:28 am

good luck with your run today! 🙂

  • Lauren September 6, 2009, 6:33 am

Both of our pets (dog and cat) were adopted from shelters, and both are absolutely amazing! They are the sweetest animals, and instantly became part of our family :).

  • Angharad September 6, 2009, 7:11 am

Oh wow – I am so intrigued (as I am sure everyone is!) about what your segment was for! How exciting! Your place looked impeccable by the way 🙂

Umm those mini bagels you had and thai food have sent me over the edge (it's before brekkie here) so I need to go and eat right now!!

  • Kiersten September 6, 2009, 7:14 am

About a year ago my boyfriend and I went to Petsmart and the Humane Society was there with kitties that we were up for adoption. We are huge animal lovers, so of course we played with them for a while. We went home and were still thinking about the kitties a few hours later. We ended up going to the Humane Society and adopting a kitty that day.

This is why I can't go near those places, I always come home with one.

  • Taylor September 6, 2009, 12:20 pm

Um..Is both an option? I think that both pancakes and waffles are great, but I really don't like french toast.

  • Stephanie September 7, 2009, 5:59 am

Our kitten is from the shelter. I don't know why anyone would pay a breeder when they could save a life from the shelter. I love our little George!

  • seesaraheat September 22, 2009, 11:08 am

My dog Suzie is from a shelter. She's a beagle mix, we think maybe with some basset hound. She's so cute, sweet and well mannered I don't know anyone could've left her 🙁 But I'm glad we reaped the benefits 🙂
