Another Rainy Run

in All Posts

Mid-week runs with friends make me SO happy!

CIMG8075

I joined the super sweet Megan (love her) for a heart-thumping 4.0 mile run.  I don’t know what it was about that run, but it seriously CRUSHED me!  It’s strange how 3 days off of running throws off your whole game.

I was a little nervous driving to Megan‘s because the sky looked like it was about to open up….

CIMG8071

So I did what any sensible and cheap runner does…

CIMG8072

Yea, that’s right.  I wrapped my iPod in a ziploc bag.  🙂

Megan and I did 4.0 miles throughout her neighborhood (which is awesome for running and I’m definitely sneaking back to!), but the entire time, I felt so WEAK.  I kept asking Megan our pace and it was only 10:00/miles even though I thought I was sprinting.

  • Duration:  39 minutes, 30 seconds
  • Distance: 4.0  miles
  • Calories Burned: 320

I did feel fabulous when it was over!

CIMG8074

As did Megan (4 fingers for 4 miles!):

CIMG8073

I actually had to come back home and work some more.  I worked until 9:20 PM and had dinner at my desk:

CIMG8077

Tomato soup and a grilled cheese sammie.  I was rushed!

CIMG8081

Other afternoon eats included a half a slice of bread before my run.

And a Kashi bar.

CIMG8069

And blueberries.

CIMG8070

And a random handful or two of granola.

I am off to bed! I’m going to do my long run tomorrow morning since I’ll be in Tennessee this weekend (I’ll still be full-time blogging and running, I’m just not sure I’ll want to run 7 miles when I could be hanging out with my mommy!)

Good night!

whateva- grilled cheese and tomato soup is THE BEST MEAL EVER.

dont let anyone tell you different (you should try it with some green wasabi cheese a la healthsweethealth 🙂

  • Meganerd August 6, 2009, 7:09 pm

    Yay! Love you too!

Great run tonight 😀 No sneaking needed, your welcome in my neighborhood anytime!

HAHA… the pics turned out so funny. 😀

  • Nikky August 6, 2009, 7:10 pm

Haha. I don't count protecting a $200 or more piece of equipment as cheap. The ziplock is clever though, I wouldn't have thought of it.

  • eatingmachine August 6, 2009, 7:25 pm

oh man i love the ziplock ipod! good for you! those are the sorts of things that make me say "oh well, mybe i'll do it later"-i like seeing reminders that a little rain won't kill me.

  • Angela (Run Study Eat) August 6, 2009, 8:00 pm

mMM! Nothing better than grilled cheese and tomato soup!

  • Marissa {sparkles and fate} August 6, 2009, 8:02 pm

I am glad your run went good!

  • happygoluckyalex August 6, 2009, 8:06 pm

trust me- get your long run in before hanging with mommy!!! I never get my runs done when I go home- it is too tempting to hang out and have coffee, catch up, tag along with her on errands.
    Run tomorrow!!!!!

  • Betsy August 6, 2009, 8:11 pm

  • Paige@ Running Around Normal August 6, 2009, 8:15 pm

Love the ziplocked iPod LOL. Good job with the run 🙂 Some days are just harder than others sometimes.

  • Jenn Eats Nutritiously Now August 6, 2009, 8:26 pm

Sounds like a fun run, even if you didn't feel your strongest, you did GREAT!

  • Katherine August 6, 2009, 8:46 pm

Haha love the "cheap" runner technique! 🙂

  • randomlymikey August 6, 2009, 8:47 pm

Grilled cheese and tomato soup is one of Mallard's favorite meals…oddly enough, I never paired the two until he and I were living together

  • vegetarianontherun August 6, 2009, 9:06 pm

Have a great trip!!! I must say between using the dogs as weights and the ziploc baggie for the ipod you've been quite resourceful lately!

  • Erin August 6, 2009, 9:06 pm

That's a great trick with the ziploc — I've thought of doing that with my iPod but instead just avoided rainy runs. But I'm totally doing that from now on!!

  • luckytastebuds August 6, 2009, 10:15 pm

hahah that was a pretty cute trick you did there with the zip lock. I've never seen anyone do it, but i'll most definitely keep it in mind the next time it rains….if only i can put my hair in a zip lock when it rains…hahahha

Have you tried sliced apples in the grilled cheese sandwich? I've heard it's life changing!

  • Rebeca @All Vegged Out August 6, 2009, 10:21 pm

That's a great idea… I always worry about mine… what do you do with the headphones though- I'm always scared of electrocuting my ears… but I'm paranoid lol

Sometimes there's nothing better than grilled cheese!

  • Lainie August 7, 2009, 12:39 am

SO fun that you guys have each other to run with! I'm new to blogging and I love your blog. And I think it makes total sense you wrapped your ipod in a ziploc 🙂

  • Joelle (The Pancake Girl) August 7, 2009, 1:15 am

Grilled cheese and soup is the perfect rainy day meal combo!

Do you like those pumpkin pie Kashi bars? I love pumpkin pie AND Kashi, so I was so hopeful that those bars would be amazing, but I found them a wee bit too sweet for me.

  • roseyrebecca August 7, 2009, 2:10 am

Glad you had a great run!

  • Ada August 7, 2009, 3:31 am

That's so clever to cover your ipod with a ziploc bag! I definitely will try that in the future:)

  • Ashley Lauren August 7, 2009, 4:04 am

Ugh, I was dragging on my runlast night too, hate that. Happy Friday!

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point August 7, 2009, 4:11 am

rebeca- i have like $5 headphones so i dont care if they get ruined, but they never do! even in really hard rainstorms in fl!

joelle – i like those kashi bars, but seriously nothing is ever too sweet for me. LOL

  • Lauren August 7, 2009, 4:18 am

Great job on the run! I am sure it felt great to get out there amungst the rain and run a nice 4 miles.

Grilled Cheese and Tomotato soup is the quintessential go-to supper when you can't think of anything else or have limited time. It's always just so darn satisfying and never dissapoints.

    Have a wonderful day Caitlin!

  • Deva August 7, 2009, 5:11 am

Grilled cheese + tomato soup = my favorite comfort food.

Okay, one of them.. but it's still DEEEEELICIOUS!!!

  • Jessica August 7, 2009, 5:16 am

The ipod in a ziploc bag is genius! I love it!

  • Stacey August 7, 2009, 5:28 am

Yes, mommy time is more important haha 🙂

  • seesaraheat August 7, 2009, 5:47 am

I've noticed when I have a few days off, I am the same way, a slower pace seems like sprinting! I'm sure you'll get back in the swing of it in no time.

Ooh, I love me some grilled cheese and soup!

Have fun with your mom this weekend 🙂

  • Pam (Highway to Health) August 7, 2009, 6:02 am

I'm definitely gonna try the ziplock over the IPOD! Great idea.

Stay positive and your 7 miles will fly by!

  • Cait (Cait's Plate) August 7, 2009, 6:45 am

HAHA! I'm loving the ziplocked ipod…that's too perfect.

And those eats look AWESOME! I would bang out any run if I knew I was coming home to that!
