Mindless Munching

in All Posts

I had my normal mid-afternoon snack around 2:30 (cereal + Chobani)

CIMG4146

Which left me feeling very satisfied!  But then I stood in my kitchen, stared out my window, and thought deeply about a project at work…. while stuffing my hand in the cereal box! I don’t know what came over me — it was total mindless munching! :/ I probably consumed another 1 – 2 servings of cereal.

Must…. hide… cereal… from… myself! ECK!

Understandably, dinner was light.

CIMG4155

Carrot sticks + a Veggie Burger in a Flat Out Wrap.

The wrap also contained mustard and spinach.

Meghann is coming over soon.  She’s spending the night and then I’m driving her to the airport.  We live about 2  miles from the airport, which is seriously the most convenient thing ever.

No workout for tonight! My arms are SORE from all that swimming.  🙂

Annddddd…. stay tuned for a VERY EXCITING announcement!  Trust me, it RULES!

If you fall prey to mindless munching, which food are you most like to splurge on?  For more, it’s anything crispy, whether it be chips or cereal!

I am defnitely a big huge mindless eater! I usually turn to cereal or fruit! I always wind up munching on grapes until there’s nothing left!!! What are ways you usually try to prevent it? I like to drink a big glass of water or tea.

  • Balance, Joy and Delicias! April 20, 2009, 5:22 pm

    mindless munching here too! 🙂

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point April 20, 2009, 5:23 pm

sloank – i drink water too. or i chew gum or do sit ups. i just try to recognize that im not actually hungry, im just bored (or sad or happy or mad). but no luck this time LOL

  • runsarah April 20, 2009, 5:26 pm

I eat cereal for sure – usually from the box, in the kitchen!

  • livelaughlyss April 20, 2009, 5:31 pm

Peanut butter! Much more dangerous than cereal! 🙂

I just started realizing that drinking water actually helps! If I force myself to drink 2 or 3 huge glasses of water, it fills me up and takes my mind off whatever it is I’m munching on!

Sit-ups? Good idea! Counter productive! 🙂

  • Marga April 20, 2009, 5:31 pm

For me, it is grapes! I love them so much and whenever I see them, I grab two or three.. then a few more.. then a few more, and before I know it, I have consumed a serving or two!

  • K from ksgoodeats April 20, 2009, 5:32 pm

Cereal is SO easy to go to town on! I also tend to mindless munch on veggies (carrots or mushrooms). Have fun with Meghann!

  • inmytummy April 20, 2009, 5:34 pm

I did the same thing with cereal tonight after dinner. I just kept sticking my hand in the box. It’s such a hard habit to break. And yeah, cereal is my number one mindless munching food.

  • Erin April 20, 2009, 5:34 pm

I do that far too much, you hardly ever slip up so don’t feel bad!
Crispy carbs are my problem too. Cereal, crackers, CHIPS, any of that.

  • Bec April 20, 2009, 5:36 pm

chips for sure! Can’t wait to hear the surprise announcement!!!

  • Emily April 20, 2009, 5:38 pm

cereal is dangerous for me too. and i have been known to eat a few too many pieces of dried fruit or nuts at a time! i try to portion out single servings ahead of time so im not tempted by a huge bag of them.

  • Michelle April 20, 2009, 5:38 pm

mmm cereal from the box is definitely my mindless eating trap

  • Laura in Pgh April 20, 2009, 5:38 pm

Tortilla chips … my mindless munching weakness!

  • just me April 20, 2009, 5:42 pm

    cookies…i splurge on cookies….boooooo….

  • iowagirleats April 20, 2009, 5:43 pm

Ugh cereal is SO easy to munch mindlessly on! I actually don’t even buy it, because I’ll eat it all in like 2 days – eek!

  • Brandi April 20, 2009, 5:43 pm

cereal, chips, and small candies like m&ms. They're so easy to just eat handful after handful! Dangerous 🙂

have fun tonight and can't wait for the announcement!

  • Sarah W. April 20, 2009, 5:56 pm

    chips & crackers – UGH!!!

  • Amanda April 20, 2009, 5:57 pm

nuts & crackersbut definitely cereal more than anything else

  • Wiggs (The Beholder) April 20, 2009, 5:57 pm

I eat anything that doesn’t take any effort to prepare – nuts, cereal, chips, crackers…anything that lets me reach into a bag or a box and never look back.

  • Joy April 20, 2009, 5:59 pm

definitely the same as you- kettle chips, any type of cereal, kashi crackers!! and as others are saying: grapes! but i don’t beat myself up about that one 😉

  • Mara @ What's For Dinner? April 20, 2009, 6:02 pm

I’m a huge mindless muncher… if its there, I eat it. BUT, if I keep things in the kitchen, i’m far too lazy to get up to get stuff.

  • Mrs. LC April 20, 2009, 6:06 pm

Can’t wait for your announcement! 🙂

I too can fall prey to mindless munching. Usually when I’m bored, usually on sweets. Which is why when I’m at the office (where I can’t easily bust out some sit ups) I carry a huge water bottle, and gum for when it gets really bad. 🙂

It’s been too long since I’ve seen you!

  • Meredith (Pursuing Balance) April 20, 2009, 6:07 pm

It’s so easy to mindless munch with cereal! I usually drink water, chew gum, or brush my teeth to avoid it.

  • MissKarenAshley April 20, 2009, 6:12 pm

I am the worst at mindless munching!! Even if it’s healthy food I eat waaaay more than I should. Whooopsies.

I try not to eat mindlessly, but sometimes I do it despite my best intentions. Anything easy to grab works, and lately it’s been Peanut Butter Puffins or Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal.

  • redheadedjournal April 20, 2009, 6:21 pm

    I love mustard!

  • Mica April 20, 2009, 6:27 pm

Ooh, an announcement that rules. I am intrigued…

  • Michelle April 20, 2009, 6:29 pm

I totally know what you mean. I always hate it when I get into that ‘mind set’ cause it really frustrates me when I can’t stop. I am really struggling right now, and have been for awhile, not trying things when I bake them. I take one bite and then can’t stop myself through the whole process. I can blow 20 points sometimes baking. It’s hard. It’s mental and getting rid of the mental thing I think is the hardest.

At least it was cereal and not cookie dough. Oh grapes, I only buy as much as I can eat at one sitting otherwise I’ll eat the whole damn bag in one day.

  • haya (living and learning) April 20, 2009, 6:32 pm

i will mindlessly munch on anything i leave open, within reach!
worst offenders are trail mix and granola clusters.

  • Briana April 20, 2009, 6:33 pm

Man, I can eat a cup of raisins before I even realize what I’m doing. I’m wondering what your announcement is?

  • stacey April 20, 2009, 6:54 pm

    Chocolate chips.

  • Matt April 20, 2009, 7:13 pm

Mindless much = trail mix, cereal, and pretzels. Anything crunchy I guess.

  • Amandaaa April 20, 2009, 7:19 pm

    I’m such a muncher. It’s baddd. And
usually, when I want to munch
on something, it consists of Doritos, chips and salsa or anything that my
    taste buds feel like.

  • Adi (oatonomy.com) April 20, 2009, 7:23 pm

Mindless munching for me is definitely on dates, cereal/granola, or baby carrots. Just not all at the same time 🙂

  • Help Meghan Run April 20, 2009, 7:33 pm

Mindless munching is dangerous for me too. :/ Especially cereal! (or granola…)

Cereal can be so dangerous. No wonder that pun exists – Cereal Killer. We just bought four boxes the other day (Bill’s idea), and every time I see them I want some!

  • Leanne April 20, 2009, 8:07 pm

Popcorn! Especially if I’m watching a movie… I’ll be reaching into the bowl and pretty soon I reach down and there’s nothing but seeds! LOL

  • balancemycake April 20, 2009, 9:06 pm

Usually sticking my hand in the cereal box or GRANOLA box are my biggest weaknesses. Or sometimes the PB jar and a spoon 🙁

  • Leah @ Simply Fabulous April 21, 2009, 12:18 am

Definitely cereal! Or crackers! I have a box of Kashi crackers in the cupboard that are a bit troublesome at the moment lol!

  • Thinspired April 21, 2009, 1:58 am

Trail mix. And cereal. But mostly homemade trail mix, which usually involves cereal! 🙁

  • Staci April 21, 2009, 6:48 am

I’m not a big snacker but if I do snack then it’s definitely cereal or dried fruit. Lately I’ve been snacking on grapes which I guess is good.

  • seesaraheat April 21, 2009, 8:17 am

I have the same problem, I can hardly keep tortilla chips or cereal in my house! I also had a graham cracker habit for a while but I think I finally broke that. Mindless munching is the worst!
