When the Cat’s Away…

The Mouse will break into the wine fridge!  🙂

My afternoon snacks included…. crackers and cheese.

And the other half of the Odwalla bar.

After work, it was major chore time! I cleaned the showers, vacuumed, tidied the kitchen… and then I spotted this:

CIMG2599

LOOK AT THOSE TALONS!  I clipped the dogs’ nails and then I gave them both a bath.

How scurred does James look?

CIMG2608

Post-bath, they both sulked at the window.

After all those chores, I was craving a little bit of vino.  I called the Husband up and solemnly asked if I could crack a bottle open in his absence.  See, the wine fridge is "his space" so I try not to invade it too much (except to fill it).  🙂

He said "of course you can open a bottle!" and suggested I open this one:

A Robert Mondavi 2007 Riesling.  You see me drink a lot of red wine on the blog, but my favorite is truly white.  The sweeter (or bubblier) the better!

We actually went to the Robert Mondavi vineyard while on our honeymoon.  Here are some pictures:

Perfect!  The most beautiful place on Earth…. The wine is good, too! I’ve already had 1 glass and I see another in my future. 😉

For my entree, I made BBQ Quinoa with grilled chicken and broc.

It looks messy, but it was GOOD!  Especially with the wine!

Time to relax…. have a wonderful evening and see you tomorrow.

Would you rather have wine or dessert?  I would rather have BOTH!  But all I’ve got tonight is vino!

Gorgeous vineyard!! And cute dogs 🙂

    Dessert for me, please!!

  • Julie March 5, 2009, 6:02 pm

Both please! Isn’t it fun having the place to yourself?

  • Amanda (Two Boos Who Eat) March 5, 2009, 6:07 pm

Sometime I’ll have to ask you for tips on where to go in Napa! I want to surprise my fiance by taking him there for a few days!

White wine is my favorite too.

  • Mo March 5, 2009, 6:19 pm

I did the same thing tonight – and my husband is out of town too. I opened one of our cheap Yellowtail bottles, since it was just me.

I would choose both dessert and wine as well, although I usually choose wine if it’s one or the other. I feel like it lasts longer, and it’s heart healthy!

  • Ryan (Chase Daylight) March 5, 2009, 6:20 pm

Aww…your puppies! My dogs like to prance around showing off after a bath 🙂

Dessert AND wine sounds great to me!!!

  • Haleigh March 5, 2009, 6:21 pm

The vineyard looks amazing! I would definitely rather have a glass of red wine if I had to choose, but I love having a square of dark chocolate as well. I finally found the courage to start my own blog! http://www.innerwellness.wordpress.com

  • Sarah (lovINmytummy) March 5, 2009, 6:24 pm

I usually choose wine…and then once the inhibitions are down…dessert.

  • Kailey (SnackFace) March 5, 2009, 6:33 pm

Hahaha the puppy pics get me every time! Oh I am so with you- I’d rather have BOTH! Tonight it’s just dessert for me, no wine 🙁

  • Brandi March 5, 2009, 6:33 pm

i would rather have both, too 🙂

    i love the puppy pictures!

  • teacherwoman March 5, 2009, 6:39 pm

I think I would rather have a sweet wine … than dessert!

  • ksgoodeats March 5, 2009, 6:50 pm

Poor puppy 🙁 That’s how mine look when they’re in the tub! You’re braver than I am with cutting nails, mine head off to the puppy manicurist!

YAY VINO! I would much prefer wine 🙂

  • RunToFinish March 5, 2009, 6:58 pm

what’s in BBQ qunioa..just the BBQ sauce? sorry still learning all your yummy treats

  • sloank March 5, 2009, 7:02 pm

nothing better than some chocolate and wine! And a little Jillian Michael’s motivation… I’m totally digging her 30 day shred!!

  • Laura March 5, 2009, 7:03 pm

Generally, I’ll go for the wine. 🙂 I’m more likely to go overboard on the bread basket than dessert.

I also love Robert Mondavi wines! They’re consistently good and under $10. Can’t beat that! The vineyard looks gorgeous!

  • just me March 5, 2009, 7:11 pm

totally dessert…or wine w/o sulfates cause i’m allergic. eek!

  • Meg March 5, 2009, 7:17 pm

    BBQ quinoa! YUM!

I would pick dessert because I am not much of a wine person.

  • Emily March 5, 2009, 7:26 pm

I’m with you on both. 🙂

  • aNd! March 5, 2009, 7:35 pm

    Dessert for sure!

  • Maggie March 5, 2009, 7:39 pm

Dessert for sure!! I’m not a drinker 🙂

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point March 5, 2009, 7:45 pm

runtofinish – yup, just BBQ sauce!

  • Amanda March 5, 2009, 7:51 pm

MMM note to self: must try quinoa!!

When we go out for a nice dinner, I prefer wine over dessert bc I usually like to get an appetizer and entree, and I’m stuffed by dessert time! In the summer though, nothing beats ice cream for me!!

  • Hallie March 5, 2009, 7:52 pm

Dessert over wine…but depending on the company, occasion, and what I’ve got going on the next day, sometimes I’d take a well-made cocktail or two over both!

  • Mara @ What's For Dinner? March 5, 2009, 7:56 pm

Dessert AND wine 🙂 That quinoa looks amazing!

  • inmytummy March 5, 2009, 8:14 pm

    Wine, I think.

Do your dogs sit still when you clip their nails? Mine is all over the place and I can’t do it myself.

  • Whitney March 5, 2009, 8:22 pm

The doggies look so pitful..aw (I bet they smell better now).

I love vino! I think I would rather have a nice glass of a big red than dessert, any day.

  • Run Saraah March 5, 2009, 8:37 pm

I’d rather have dessert I think! Cute dog, my dog looks like a drowned little rat in the tub, poor thing.

  • skinnyrunner.com March 5, 2009, 9:00 pm

dessert all the way! i dont like wine, my parents never drank it and i never drank it in college or anything, so i just never got into it. any cake though-watch out!

  • Meredith (Pursuing Balance) March 5, 2009, 9:02 pm

Aw James’s eyes are super wide with fear! In high school we used some shampoo on the dogs that was supposed to be left on for 5 minutes before rinsing, so we’d walk them around the block all soapy before hosing them off, and they would look so embarrassed!!!

  • kara March 5, 2009, 9:09 pm

    Mmmmm dessert!!

  • Sheri March 5, 2009, 9:52 pm

Hmmmm…I would have to say a glass of deep, dark and rich red with a square of dark chocolate! YUM!

  • Runeatrepeat March 5, 2009, 10:22 pm

BOTH! I am trying to get myself to drink more wine and eat less dessert, but I kinda win either way.

  • lilveggiepatch March 5, 2009, 10:27 pm

Yep, both for me too, please!

  • Erin March 5, 2009, 11:13 pm

Both, they go together too well!

  • BOBBI McCORMICK March 5, 2009, 11:48 pm

Hubby and I went there too! We are actually planning a trip back to Nappa this summer with friends:)

  • FoodsThatFit March 5, 2009, 11:55 pm

I am definitely a dessert girl!

  • fitforfree March 6, 2009, 7:05 am

depends . . . usually dessert, but if I’m having pasta I LOVE having a glass of wine with it 🙂

    LOVE the honeymoon pics!

  • Anonymous March 6, 2009, 8:36 am

Have you tried a vino verde? It’s a fantastic Portugese wine. And it ranges from almost fizzy to actually bubbling in the glass depending on the vinyard. I’m a white wine lover, especially Riesling, but now I’m always on the look out for a vino verde. A little harder to find, but well worth it.

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point March 6, 2009, 8:39 am

anon – no i havent even HEARD of a vino verde!! i will check out the wine store next time i go. thanks for the recommendation, it sounds lovely.

  • Victoria March 6, 2009, 9:39 am

    WINE!

  • lauren March 6, 2009, 11:16 am

OMG – poor james. that picture is priceless. My oscar is the same way with baths.

  • aron March 6, 2009, 11:35 am

I think dessert tastes better after a glass or 2 of wine 🙂

  • eatingRD March 7, 2009, 7:51 am

I would have to say I like to have both! haha, unless I am way too full. Desserts are one of my downfalls for sure, but I try to keep it to a weekend treat minimum. My aunt works in Napa at Mondavi! Well, I think she still works there, but she does tasting and wine tours all over Napa. It was amazing to go visit her a couple spring breaks ago and get to have a local tour. If you ever go back you have to go to Pride winery, it has the most amazing views of Napa.

    -kristen 🙂
