Get Your Race Face On!

in All Posts

Afternoon! I am realllly looking forward to a quiet night in with just me, the dogs, and the TV (Husband is out on business).  Hurry up, weekend!

Around 10:00, I snacked on about 1/2 cup of Sunflower Seed and Pumpkin Seed granola with skim milk.  This is the last of my cereal/granola stash — time to go shopping!

Lunch came early… around 11:00!  I had two pieces of WW toast with cucumber slices and 2% fat cottage cheese. MMM!  Plus some melon.

CIMG2589

These open-faced sammies tasted so light and delish.

CIMG2591

Around 12:00, I had part 2 of lunch… 1/2 an Odwalla Bar.

CIMG2592

I am SO impressed with Odwalla bars… I loved the hunks of dried blueberries in this Berry-flavored bar!

Gasparilla Flashbacks

The official race photos for Gasparilla came out yesterday! I love looking at the professional photographs; they are always so cool.  The best part is comparing my "race face" as the distance gets further and further….

    Mmm, love that granola!!

    FABULOUS race flashback photos!!

  • seesaraheat March 5, 2009, 10:26 am

They are expensive! The races I run are in the Spring (starting this week!) and sometimes around Christmas (way later) they have “specials” if you order one of your pics. So I have gotten one that way. So I have one out of however many, haha.

  • talieworld March 5, 2009, 10:27 am

    Love the race photos! 🙂

  • sarah March 5, 2009, 10:30 am

if my pics looked like yours i would! i always look like i am either about to die, or about to sneeze. i have yet to have a flattering race pic!

cucumber + melon = such a natural combo. yum!

  • Kimberly March 5, 2009, 10:32 am

You are such a running rock star! 😉

  • Runeatrepeat March 5, 2009, 10:34 am

I have bought one a long time later when they were having a special, but other than that – No. They are way too expensive! I may buy one from my first mary if they prices go down.

  • Hallie March 5, 2009, 10:38 am

Those photos are awesome! I need to find a race to train for so I even have the option of buying photos or not! Although I doubt I would buy them…proud as I might be, I don’t think I want to see that 🙂

  • sweetandfit March 5, 2009, 10:39 am

oooooh your lunch looks so good! ur race pics are super cute – they might be expensive, but the memory is priceless =)

  • inmytummy March 5, 2009, 10:47 am

My boyfriend and I ran (his first) a 10K last summer and his mom bought 4 of the pictures of us. In every single picture, I have my tongue sticking out of the side of my mouth! Needless to say, they are not displayed in our house.

  • dailygoods March 5, 2009, 10:49 am

love those pics! i can’t imagine my face in a race lol i dont think i’d want to frame it! and ooh i lovee odwalla bars! my favorite is the banana nut (which is sooo good heated up , exactly like banana bread) and chocolate chip peanut DELISH! 🙂

  • leslie March 5, 2009, 10:53 am

you look so hard core in that first photo – i love it!

caitlin, i know you run outside most of the time, but have you ever noticed if the treadmill tends to bother your knees more? i had to take the past month off running and do physical therapy because of knee problems, and i was just cleared to run very short distances last week. i did one run outside that felt great, but my next was on the treadmill and my knees have felt completely out of whack since then. i’m just wondering if this is common amongst us knee sufferers, or if i just have a longer way to go in healing than i thought. i’d love your thoughts!

  • Amanda March 5, 2009, 10:55 am

    Such good race photos!!

So sweet – I emailed the link of my photos from my half-marathon back in Nov. to my parents so they could see them. My dad ordered 3 of my photos and put them in a shadowbox for me for Christmas! It was such a great surprise!!

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point March 5, 2009, 10:56 am

Leslie – my initial thoughts are that the treadmill is suppose to be easier on your knees because there is more ‘give” and less hard impact. however, one thing that troubles me about the treadmill is that i tend to go faster on it that i would outside. faster = more strikes = bad news bears for your knees.

take it easy, ice, and elevate! also, run short and SLOW to start out with. good luck! have you tried knee sleeves? you can buy them on rei.com

  • balanceisbest March 5, 2009, 10:56 am

Yay! Thanks for sharing the photos!

After my half, I was not interested in purchasing the pics because they were pretty bad. I continued to get email reminders that the pics would expire….six months later, I splurged and order the ones of Andrew and I crossing the finish line. It may not be the best pic – but it was definitely one of my proudest moments that I want to remember forever! They were worth every penny!

  • redheadedjournal March 5, 2009, 10:57 am

    Great race photos!

  • Carolina John March 5, 2009, 10:59 am

how cute! those are great race pics. i have also never bought the official pics, but they are cool. somebody must do it, or they won’t keep taking those pics.

so when are you going to run a full marathon? this 25 mile split over a couple of days has to be a precursor to a full. do it!

  • ksgoodeats March 5, 2009, 11:00 am

2% CC – the only way to go in my book 🙂

You look so cute in the race pictures!!

  • Becca March 5, 2009, 11:00 am

    Great pics!

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point March 5, 2009, 11:00 am

carolina john – i will probably never run a full marathon. i have too much trouble with my knees to risk it. 🙁 i would love to do it, but i need to balance long-term consequences with short-term rewards… know what i mean? it sucks! but luckily i like the half.

  • chandra March 5, 2009, 11:04 am

I ordered a copy of the picture of me from my 3rd leg of the Ragnar relay last year (the one that is on my side bar), but that is the only one I’ve ever bought a copy of. I just had to though, that moment/race was a HUGE accomplishment for me and I’m so glad they drove by and took that picture – no one else on my team had one taken!

  • Tami March 5, 2009, 11:04 am

i do the wrong thing and just swipe them off their websites, i never have seen PROOF across race photos like that before. If they wouldn’t charge so much I wouldn’t do that. great photos.

  • Leah March 5, 2009, 11:15 am

    Those photos are GREAT!!

    I love your lunch..
I’m such a fan of cottage cheese and open faced sandwiches.

  • Betsy March 5, 2009, 11:20 am

You should definitely get that last picture printed… your face and that moment, you’ll want to remember it! 🙂

  • bb March 5, 2009, 11:23 am

Girl, you make the skirt look hardcore!

  • Brandi March 5, 2009, 11:39 am

    great race pics!

I’ve never been in a race with “real race pics”, but I hope to! I don’t know if I would order them, though. I would just have someone from my family there to take pictures.

  • Sharon March 5, 2009, 11:42 am

I love your race photos- very cool! I never got a chance to race before I got injured, so I'm not sure what my race photos would have looked like. I imagine they would probably be very unflattering, though (I always get all red & sweaty after a hard run!!) You look fabulous in yours, so I would DEFINITELY buy them if I were you 🙂

  • Sharon March 5, 2009, 11:49 am

    Caitlin,
I just wanted to add a thought regarding Leslie's comment. In my experience the treadmill is easier on the joints in terms of impact. I had been relying a lot on my treadmill this past winter since we had so much snow, ice and freezing temperatures. After talking to my doctor as well as many others who suffered the same type of injury as me, I have to concur that the treadmill was definitely partly responsible. When outdoors you are running on a variety of surfaces (even & uneven). On a treadmill it is the same surface over & over again. As a result it is very repetitive and can lead to repetitive use injuries. I think it is best to run outdoors & not rely so much on the treadmill for this reason alone. I just wanted to share my experience, so thanks 🙂

  • Kelly March 5, 2009, 12:04 pm

    Oh wow, great blog!

I ran one 5k race last summer. I was so tempted to get those professional race photos but never did. I did save my race number though. 🙂

    Great job!

  • aron March 5, 2009, 12:09 pm

great pics 🙂 I have never bought any, I just usually find a way to save as 🙂

  • sarah March 5, 2009, 12:40 pm

I really like your first pic. You look so tough ; )

    Sarah

  • Elina March 5, 2009, 12:49 pm

Haha, great pics! I’d definitely buy them!! You can have a fun album with all your race pics 🙂

  • Nicole (anotheronebitesthecrust.wordpress.com) March 5, 2009, 12:50 pm

I love the photos! When I did cheerleading, I loved to look at all the professional photos from the competition!

  • sloank March 5, 2009, 1:10 pm

That lunch looks delicious! About how much cottage cheese did you put on the bread?

  • Mary Beth March 5, 2009, 1:11 pm

I also took the trip over to run in Gasparilla. (I live in Deland.) Although I didn’t participate in one of the challenges I ran both the 15k and 5k. This was my first 15k and am stoked to have finished both races back to back! I’m still on my runners high…! 🙂 I’ve been looking forward to checking out the pics online and have been checking the website religiously. When the prices were displayed I thought I misread the cost…. Wowsers! So while I had planned on purchasing a few, I think I’m settling for one. (..And pseudo steal the rest w/ the big ole PROOF slapped across the front by saving them to my comp.. hehe!) The principle of paying that much kinda makes it hard to shell out $$$ for just a pic. This race was important and memorable in my “running career” so although I normally wouldn’t pay that much, this one’s worth it.

And if I had completed a Budlight Challenge I definitely buy one.. or two!! … just a thought!

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point March 5, 2009, 1:14 pm

sloank – hmmm i dunno i just piled it on… about 1/2 to 3/4 cup?

mary beth – awesome for running gasparilla! i wish we couldve met up! you are so close to me, let me know if you want to go on a run ever.

  • Danielle March 5, 2009, 1:19 pm

    Love your pictures!

  • sloank March 5, 2009, 1:22 pm

You are seriously the fastest person ever at answering comments/e-mails!! Amazing!

  • Haleigh March 5, 2009, 1:47 pm

Your race photos are fantastic!! Good job again for completing 3 races in 1 weekend. Look at all those yummy grains in that Odwalla Bar! Yum…

  • Jess March 5, 2009, 2:02 pm

The only race photo I’ve ever ordered was of me crossing the finish line of my first marathon. I figured that was worth the price.

  • samsam26 March 5, 2009, 2:36 pm

Great pics! I was wondering how you or any other “skirt runner” likes the running skorts? They are so cute but I wonder how they work for running?

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point March 5, 2009, 2:48 pm

sam – they are great – very comfy. i actually prefer them to shorts! target makes some reasonably priced running skirts!

  • Allison March 5, 2009, 2:59 pm

Caitlin I have to tell you that you are such an inspiration to me in terms of running.
Running and I have not always been the best of friends, and I really really want to be a “runner.” The other morning as I was gearing up for my run (which is actually mostly a walk at this point) I noticed it was raining, and I thought of you running in the rain this weekend, and it helped me push my self through my run.
    Thansk!

  • Vegan On Stage March 5, 2009, 3:23 pm

haha i love in the action photos… they always capture how hard your working…:)

  • Kailey (SnackFace) March 5, 2009, 4:06 pm

You look so badass in your pics! Those are awesome!! I never used to get photos from cheer and dance competitions, either. They are outrageously pricey. Have a lovely night in!

  • Nutritious is Delicious March 5, 2009, 4:10 pm

Awesome photos! I bet it feels awesome to finish and know that all of your hard work pays off!

    Yummy eats!

  • skinnyrunner.com March 5, 2009, 5:04 pm

i love looking at the race photos bc mine are normally retarded but i never buy them bc they are pricey!!

  • HangryPants March 5, 2009, 5:29 pm

There is a world of odwalla bars waiting for you to try now. My persoal favs – the banana one and the superfood one.

  • jane March 5, 2009, 7:10 pm

great pics you look awesome! in my first half marathon (well, only one so far haha) they got a picture of me and i was cheesin’ like crazy! i had this giant smile on my face and both my thumbs up. anyone who saw it where i worked (running store, so everyone saw it) made so much fun of me haha

  • Jessica March 5, 2009, 7:49 pm

Hey! I have been reading the blog for quite a while and wanted to let you know how much I enjoy reading and what an inspiration you are to me! I am currently training for my first half marathon and reading about your runs helps keep me going.
I did have a question for you. Yesterday I did a longer run (7 miles- a new distance PR-yay!) and my heart rate monitor band started chafing. Does this ever happen to you? It was so painful. Any tips to make it stop?
    Thanks!!

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point March 5, 2009, 8:17 pm

jessica – AHH i have a permanent chafe mark from my sports bra and/or heart rate monitor! it’s there all the time now – i hate it! maybe vaseline is the solution? i will pose it as a question on the blog tomorrow!!

  • Run Saraah March 5, 2009, 8:52 pm

LOVE those photos, you look awesome!

  • ChickPea March 6, 2009, 12:06 am

    Love the race pics!

BTW, what do you think of those Odwalla bars? I think I still prefer Clif…

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point March 6, 2009, 5:04 am

chickpea – hmm i dunno! i think i need to try more odwalla bars to decide. i do really like the two odwalla bars i did try, and i’m kind of neutral to most clif bars. (except zbars)

  • healthy ashley March 6, 2009, 8:48 am

    I Love your photos!

This year I did buy one. Can’t believe it- $24 for a 5×7!! BUT, crossing that finish line was one of my favorite moments… I was more proud of myself than at my college graduation! I want to remember that moment 🙂
