Afternoon!  I completely forgot today is St. Patrick’s Day.  Another sign I am getting old and pathetic.  St. Patrick’s Day used to mean a day of drinking green beer, but now it’s just another work day.

Pittsburgh KNOWS how to do St. Patrick’s Day.  They close off an area of downtown called Market Square and proceed to throw a huge block party.  Drinking green Miller Light from plastic steins is highly encouraged.

St. Patrick’s Day in Market Square 2006:

Me and my BFF Sarah…  Yes, my hair is red and it’s short! And we’re really tan for Pittsburgh in March because we had just gotten back from Spring Break in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.  Man, my life RULED back then.

My other BFF Bethany.

Sarah, me, my friend Igor, and Abe Lincoln (not sure what he has to do with St. Patrick’s Day):

Wow — looking at those old pictures made me feel really old and lame.  We went out last year for St. Patrick’s Day to downtown Orlando, but it just wasn’t crazy like Pittsburgh.  Those were the good old days!

Mid-morning snack:  WW shredded cereal.

Lunch: an AMAZING salad!

My salad contained:

  • Spinach
  • Romaine
  • Baked Polenta Crotons
  • Shredded Grilled Chicken
  • Carrots
  • 2 Grilled Pineapples

I love grilled pineapple!

How do you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?  Cabbage soup? An Irish Car Bomb?  Green clothing?  A fake Irish accent? Green beer?

    Looks like a great time!

I always celebrate by going to the annual parade in my town the weekend before, and wearing green today. 🙂

  • Runeatrepeat March 17, 2009, 9:39 am

Well, I def wear green. I also pretend to be Irish for the day 🙂

  • redheadedjournal March 17, 2009, 9:46 am

    Yay redheads! ha ha 🙂

I was thinking this morning about crazy St. Patty’s Days of the past and how mild they are now 🙂

  • Courtney (The Hungry Yogini) March 17, 2009, 9:49 am

Love the St.Patty’s flashback. Looks like a good time.

Everything I am eating today is happening to be green…weird.

    Love your salad. Looks delish!

  • Haleigh March 17, 2009, 9:58 am

Looks like you had a great time during St. Patrick’s Day in Pittsburgh! I usually don’t do much for St. Patrick’s but last year it was the day before my wedding so we all went out to a Irish Pub, now that was a blast! P.S. That salad looks delicious!

  • Jess March 17, 2009, 10:01 am

Those pictures are great! I went to Duquesne and I could practically see Market Square from my apartment. St. Patty’s day really is quite insane!!

  • Hallie March 17, 2009, 10:09 am

It’s funny how all college/booze-filled celebrations looks the same, no matter what the occasion.

St. Patty’s day was never a big deal for me…maybe since I don’t like beer? I am wearing green todaty, but that’s by accident! My guy is Irish and even he isn’t doing anything special today. We ARE old!

  • K March 17, 2009, 10:09 am

    Grilled pineapple is the best!

FUN pictures!! I’ll be celebrating by drinking green beer at a work meeting of all places! Irish car bombs = not good in my book…you shouldn’t drink things that curdle!

  • Run Saraaah March 17, 2009, 10:10 am

Lovely photos! I’ve never done much for St. Paddy’s day – usually just wear green!

  • kara March 17, 2009, 10:13 am

The salad is green! So you’re still hanging in there 😉

  • Brandi March 17, 2009, 10:16 am

i usually wear green, but that’s about it.

I would love to be in Ireland instead of at work, that’s for sure 😉

  • Erin D. March 17, 2009, 10:18 am

I loveeeee St. Patty's Day! I spent it in Dublin last year, which is where I studied abroad. It was SO much fun! This year, it's corned beef & cabbage, Guinness & Jameson, looking at pictures from last year.

  • Danielle March 17, 2009, 10:20 am

How much fun does that look?
I’m pretty lame now, I’m just going to be at home eating some irish soda bread.

I don’t have green on but I’ll switch that up once I get home I have a shirt that says “Everybody loves an Irish girl” but didn’t think it was work attire.

  • jenn March 17, 2009, 10:33 am

I am also super lame. I didn’t remember to wear green but thank goodness my workout pants have a green stripe on them, or the receptionist at the doctor this morning would have pinched me…

  • lauren March 17, 2009, 10:44 am

I am wearing green and have corned beef and cabbage in the crockpot right now!

  • Amanda March 17, 2009, 10:47 am

FUN PICS! I drank all day on Saturday in Philly … I did one car bomb and that was enough of those for me … stuck to regular old beer after that. I think I’m going to lay low tonight, seeing as I’ve already partied enough!

  • Sarah W. March 17, 2009, 12:00 pm

I've spent 2 of recent st. pattys in Galway, Ireland (i'm posting pics later this evening)

but todays a work night so i'm just sitting at home and going for a run.

hubby had to work a TRIPLE today – he woke up at 5am!!!!!! (earlier than me!) the restaurant is normally open for lunch & dinner but today they did breakfast too – complete with bagpipers and riverdancers!

  • livelovelaugheatlearn March 17, 2009, 3:52 pm
