Morning!  I feel like such a lazy pants — I kept telling myself I’m going to go for a morning run, and then my alarm clock goes off and I just lay there, debate, hit snooze, and go back to sleep.  I try all my old tricks — thinking about how good it would feel to get my workout out of the way, remembering that it will be dark later… but it just doesn’t work!

I’m going to go ahead and blame Twilight (keeping me up late) and the wedding (stressing me out and causing me to need more sleep).  I’m not sure if that’s fair to do, but whatever.

On a brighter note, I have a 10K race on Sunday that I’m really looking forward to!

AND I really appreciate your enthusiasm regarding The Holistic Doctor Is In!  Keep those orders coming! πŸ˜‰

Breakfast was a simple, yet super yummy bowl of oatmeal.

The key addition was a little cinnamon!

My oatmeal contained:

  • 1/2 cup oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Sprinkle of cinnamon
  • 1 sliced banana
  • Toppings:  sprinkle of brown sugar, sliced almonds, Grape Nuts

Heaven on a spoon!

December Challenge – Making Abs Fun, Day 4

Sorry I’m a little belated on this December Challenge post.  I actually did this ab work last night at the gym using a blow-up workout ball, but a pillow works well, too.

Introducing….. V Sit-ups! I’m sure there’s a more official name, but that’s what I call this KILLER ab workout.  I’m sore, seriously!

  • Lay flat on a yoga mat, with your legs stretch out in front of you and your arms stretch out over head.  Using your ankles, firmly grasp a ball or pillow.
  • Lift your legs while lifting your arms overhead and crunching upwards.  Don’t strain your neck! Try to pretend there’s an apple placed in between your chin and neck.
  • DSCN9988

  • Pass the pillow from your feet to your hands and extend your legs down and your arms back over your head.

  • That’s one reptition.  Next, move the pillow from your arms to your legs in a similar manner.
  • I did 3 sets of 12 reps.  It was a KILLER!

To recap, here’s the December Challenge so far:

Off to work I go! TGIF!

        Happy Friday, Caitlin!!

      • Allie December 12, 2008, 6:51 am

I know how hard it is to get back into the swing of morning workouts! Last winter, I was awesome, every morining out of bed at about 5.15 am. Now I am lucky if I roll out before 6.30 am!

      • Erica December 12, 2008, 6:52 am

You deserve the extra sleep- don’t feel bad! Yayy for the 10k! I’m sure you’ll do great!

      • Meg December 12, 2008, 6:56 am

Good luck on Sunday! Love the ab workout!

      • Meghann December 12, 2008, 7:05 am

hahaha those are priceless. Too bad there isnÒ€ℒt any of me crossing the finish line, right when I was crossing the cameraman was yelling at a girl to get out of his shot so he missed me. For some reaodn the professional photographers always shoot me at a weird angle. I think I look pudgy in this photo. oh well at least my parents got some good ones.

      • Amanda December 12, 2008, 7:06 am

I’m feeling the same way about the morning workouts! I did my half-marathon at the end of November and would get up and run before work at least 2 times a week. Here in PA it is cold and dark at 530am (duh), but I had that motivation!!

In all honesty, I’ve been favoring gym workouts over running outside since my race. I’m going to stop feeling bad about it and just be glad that I’m still exercising.

In other words, don’t be so hard on yourself πŸ™‚

      • Caitlin (see bride run) December 12, 2008, 7:08 am

amanda – i feel the SAME WAY – it’s like, at least im still doing SOMETHING. i think its important to change your workout expectations in accordance to what else is going in your life. if youre really busy or its crappy outside, why torture yourself?

        you have an excellent outlook!!

      • just me December 12, 2008, 7:09 am

i totally agree, that is a killer ab move. i did something similar in my workout yesterday…i hurt today!

and i would take the extra sleep while you can! πŸ˜€

best of luck on sunday at your race! yay!

      • Krista December 12, 2008, 7:14 am

I do those V sit ups on my Wii Fit only they call them “the jack knife”. No matter what you call them, I ALWAYS have sore abs for the next 2 days! Guess that means they work, right?

      • Mica December 12, 2008, 7:16 am

Your ab workout pics seriously look like demonstrations from a fitness magazine. You’re so fit, lady!

        Good luck on your 10K!

      • therunningaddict December 12, 2008, 7:29 am

        Thanks for the demonstration!

      • Rose December 12, 2008, 7:37 am

I’m loving the ab workouts – now if I can motivate myself to do them regularly.

Hope you’re having a good day!

      • K December 12, 2008, 7:44 am

        GOOD LUCK SATURDAY!!!

Try not to stress about the wedding – I’m sure it’ll be like a fairytale πŸ™‚

        Have a great day!

      • ashley (sweetandnatural) December 12, 2008, 7:59 am

        It’s Friday! So less stress?!

      • Erin December 12, 2008, 8:53 am

I’m reading New Moon right now and I find myself saying “Just one more page, I need to know what happens!” I look at my clock and it’s like 2am, wow.

      • chasedaylight December 12, 2008, 9:07 am

I love that ab workout! I’ll have to try it. I forgot to comment yesterday but your new website is so great! I’m going to register today and check out that cinnamon Stevia that you mentioned. Yum!

      • Halie December 12, 2008, 9:08 am

You’ll do great at the 10K even without getting a run in this morning! Plus you’ve got to be kind to those knees! You need the extra sleep!

Great idea to use a pillow with the V-Sit Ups! I would have never thought of that!

So happy to hear that you are happy with the way your dress has turned out! That makes such a difference in the happiness of your wedding day. My mom HATED her wedding dress (my grandma, her MIL, made it and made it really frumpy) but it all worked out because my mom and dad are still happily married after 25 years!

Wasn’t The Office HILARIOUS?? I was laughing out loud the whole time – Meredith being dragged into rehab?!?! Screaming?!?! I can’t get enough of that show!

      • Claire December 12, 2008, 9:11 am

Oh, I forgot about these! I used to do them in my PUMP class (which I can’t attend anymore b/c of school and travel constraints!). Thanks for the reminder. Something new to add to my routine.

      • Oh She Glows December 12, 2008, 9:20 am

I had a really lazy Friday morning too…I took about twice as long to get ready for work as usual. Sometimes it is a nice change of pace πŸ˜€

my race got canceled for tomorrow. NH is in a state of emergency, snow, ice, yuck. i hope your knee feels OK for your race and sitting on the toilet is always the test on how far i am pushing my body

      • Fitnessista December 12, 2008, 9:53 am

oooh that’s one of my favorites! i might be doing it tonight with a pillow in the hotel room because i’m not sure they have a gym πŸ˜€
        have a wonderful day!

      • Marissa December 12, 2008, 9:55 am

        Good luck on the 10k!

      • Elina December 13, 2008, 1:22 pm

        I’ve done this move… it’s definitely a killer!
