Crunchy Savory Sweet

in All Posts

Does the post title remind you of TLC "Crazy Sexy Cool"?

If you are too young to remember the AWESOMENESS that was TLC in the early 1990’s, I hate you.

🙂

Mid-morning snack was the same as yesterday….

DSCN9994

Z-bar and tea!

And lunch was a crunchy savory sweet sammie…

DSCN9996

My sammie contained turkey deli meat, cheddar cheese, and half of a Gala apple, all broiled until hot and melty.

DSCN9999

With the rest of my apple and some carrots…

DSCN9998

I Heart Pop!

In case you want to hear some more crap-tastic 1990s music….

Barbie Girl!

Whoomp! There it is!

Tub thumpin!

If you really really really want a zig a zig ahhhhh!

What’s your favorite 1990s song?

Haha I remember when all of those songs came out. Does that really make us old? Its weird to think there might be some readers out there who weren’t even born when those songs came out… gasp!

I still love SPice girls from the 90s! I was a HUGE Hanson fan back in the day, they were actually my first concert when I was 13…lol

  • therunningaddict December 12, 2008, 11:18 am

  • chasedaylight December 12, 2008, 11:22 am

Um, that would have to be “Mmm Bop” by Hanson! Ah, I was obsessed! And by the way, my cousins make fun of me to this day for constantly dancing to “Waterfalls”!! 90’s music is the best!

  • ashley (sweetandnatural) December 12, 2008, 11:22 am

I was Baby Spice for Halloween in 8th grade!

  • Halie December 12, 2008, 11:22 am

I’m not too young!!! I fondly remember all these! Well,
“fondly” can be taken sarcastically 🙂

Super fun post! I don’t know what my favorite is!! Too many awesome songs to choose from! I still like The Cardigans “Lovefool” **more of The Office references** 🙂 Remember ACE OF BASE? I remember my friends putting “The Sign” on repeat on the CD player (can you believe THOSE are outdated now??)

  • Caitlin (see bride run) December 12, 2008, 11:24 am

  • Kaye December 12, 2008, 11:49 am

OMG! I LOVE THE SPICE GIRLS!

Last year, and the junior college I transferred out of, they did this lipsynching show where professors dress up like pop stars, but they let me be scary spice!!!
    AND we did Wannabe!
OMG, I am going to find those pictures and post them!!!!

  • Erica December 12, 2008, 11:54 am

Meghann- I loved spice girls too!

    hahhaha Ace of base!

What about the cranberries? Remember Linger?

    GREAT post

  • Andrea of Care to Eat December 12, 2008, 11:54 am

Girl, I was in High School and even Junior High when some of those songs came out! Who feels old now?
Too many 90s songs to list, but maybe Closing Time by Supersonic? If that’s too boring, remember Chumbawamba?

  • Betsy December 12, 2008, 11:58 am

the sign was the best song ever. reminds me of 5th grade when my friends and i would listen to the TAPE constantly.

  • just me December 12, 2008, 11:59 am

ohhh…ace of base was my fav…and yes, Mmm Bop was a fav…i’m ashamed to admit. chumbawumba (sp?) was a big one too…hah!

  • Amanda December 12, 2008, 12:07 pm

    Ahh flashback!!

I really loved the Spice Girls – they were my first concert. I was also a huge NSync nerd. I thought I was going to marry Lance Bass … whoops, no gay-dar whatsoever.

Sooo funny that you used to rollerblade to Waterfalls, Erica! I used to rollerskate to Amy Grant. hahahahah

  • Catherine December 12, 2008, 12:20 pm

Wow I think I actually have most of those songs on my itunes… um yeah mmBop is soo a guilty pleasure. My bro and I always put that on the jukebox in bars and then when it comes on we totally pretend we have no idea who put it on… 🙂 Umm Seal – Kissed by a Rose or Sophie B. Hawkins anyone?? Or some good ol’ Meredith Brooks – I may or may not still rock out to “I’m a Bitch”

  • Chic Runner December 12, 2008, 12:23 pm

You can never go wrong with the Spice Girls. Gosh just thinking about them brings me back to the younger days. 🙂

  • Bridget December 12, 2008, 12:26 pm

I can remember dancing around my room to each of those songs! And I had Ace of Base “The Sign” on cassette tape 🙂

  • carolinebee December 12, 2008, 12:27 pm

THOSE are all awesome 😀 I used to watch MTV every morning while eating b-fast. AH my faves were Missy- supa dupa fly, Tupac- CA love, Cranberries- linger, then graduating to Christina- Genie in a bottle, and backstreet- I want it that way! haha I’m gonna go watch VH1 RIGHT NOW!!

  • Meg December 12, 2008, 12:32 pm

Love all the 90’s music and your sammie!

  • Julie December 12, 2008, 12:36 pm

haha I love tub thumping!! You left out the cheesiest of them all – Hanson MMMMBop. “The sign” is an awesome song!! It reminds me of when Stephanie Tanner had a band…”girl talk”…and they sung this and totally bombed. I love “freak like me” by adina howard and jump by kris kross!

I have xm and listen to the 90s channel all the time!

  • TinaGirl December 12, 2008, 12:37 pm

OMG I’m feelin’ old now! HOW great it is to go back to those days! well in some ways. Don’t want those akward teenage moments back at all but the fun? Hell ya bring it on.

  • Julie December 12, 2008, 12:38 pm

Ah I thought of more! IMO nothing beats 90s Mariah Carey…all her early 90s stuff rocks. I love the fantasy remix w/ ODB. “Me ‘n Mariah go back like babies ‘n pacifiers”

  • VeggieGirl December 12, 2008, 12:45 pm

    I LOVED ALL THOSE SONGS!!!

I was a huge fan of TLC’s “No Scrubs” 😉

  • tfh December 12, 2008, 12:55 pm

I have to admit, more songs than I want to admit that have been mentioned here today are on my Ipod playlist. Yep. Add to that Boyz II Men, Paula Abdul, Amy Grant, Better Than Ezra…you know what makes me feel really old? When I go into a store and see the sign that says what year you have to have been born in to buy cigarettes. I’m always like, eek, babies can smoke!

  • jenngirl December 12, 2008, 1:00 pm

haha I love 90’s music! I loved the Spice Girls and Hanson…good times 🙂

  • Justine December 12, 2008, 1:06 pm

  • Lindsay December 12, 2008, 1:21 pm

Oh man Caitlin you just made my day. 🙂
i was just barely born in the 90’s but i love spice girls, and does Hansen count???

  • bitesoflife December 12, 2008, 1:22 pm

VH1 had a show of the greatest songs of the 90’s and boy thought I was nuts because I remembered the lyrics to most of those songs! But who am I kidding, I still so listen to them! Nothing like some Matchbox 20, Savage Garden, NSYNC or Spice Girls to make a bad day better!

  • haya December 12, 2008, 1:23 pm

    what an awesome post!!

i still secretly enjoy the spice girls. it’s great workout music.
eiffel 65 “blue” was another old favorite. must hunt that one down

  • Caitlin December 12, 2008, 1:36 pm

ohhhh TLC and the Spice Girls. Everyone must own all of their cds! (I know I do) 🙂

  • Rose December 12, 2008, 1:51 pm

    Oh.my.word.

This post REALLY took me back a few years. Oh, TLC. Remember the part in waterfalls where they rap? I was so impressed I had it memorized…and still do.

  • Katie December 12, 2008, 2:14 pm

Savage Garden!!! I love truly madly deeply!! My BFF and I used to know all the lyrics and I wanted it to be my first dance song. Too bad hubby shot it down:)

“I’ll be your dream, I’ll be your wish, I’ll be your fantasy…”

  • Quinn December 12, 2008, 3:00 pm

Love that you’re bringing it back to the 90s! God there was so much bad music it was good. Counting Crows, Mariah Carey’s “Dreamlover,” and who doesn’t remember Coolio’s “Gangsters Paradise?” Then was the move from rap to grunge in which I fully embraced all that was Green Day.

  • Kristie Lynn December 12, 2008, 3:07 pm

I wouldn’t say Tub Thumpin’ was my favorite song, but man do I love when it comes on the radio now. But I did love me some Spice Girls… I took Jazz classes when I was in elementary school (5th grade) and we definitely did a performance to “Wannabe” and BSB’s “Everybody”. I thought I was the coolest, I’ll be honest 🙂

  • strongandhealthy December 12, 2008, 3:12 pm

I loved TLC!!! Also, the Cranberries, Ace of Base, and the Spice Girls!!

    Yummy lunch!

  • Courthey (Eat The Whole Thing) December 12, 2008, 5:48 pm

All I have to say is…Don’t Go Chasing Waterfalls.

Oh, and what a yummy lunch!

  • Victoria December 12, 2008, 6:49 pm

Hilarious!! I was a huge Hanson and Spice Girls fan. I love apples and cheese together – great sandwich!

  • talieworld December 12, 2008, 7:58 pm

I remember all of those songs, and I was in elementary school!

I remember jamming out to the first Backstreet Boys CD, and the Spice Girls was my first concert!!!

  • Mica December 12, 2008, 8:49 pm

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS. I was JUST talking about “2 Become 1” today and how I just realized it advocates safe sex.

…I was too young in the 90’s to get that, aha.

  • Erin of Care to Eat December 12, 2008, 9:01 pm

Oh Caitlin, I feel really old. I can’t believe Barbie Girl was in the ’90s.
I totally adored,”We like the cars, the cars that go boom…”

  • Nikole December 13, 2008, 7:55 am

Great topic. I remember the first concert I went to without a grown up was Paula Abdul and Color Me Bad…remember them…I wanna Sex you up. It was so naughty 🙂 I think that must have been in 91 or 92. I bet there are kids now who didn’t know Paula Abdul was more than just a judge on American Idol. Straight up!

  • Deb December 13, 2008, 1:55 pm

You have great taste in 90s pop! When I just played “Whoomp there it is” my feet automatically started to move and my cat got scared off my lap! 😀

Your worst dinner ever may very well be your worst nutritionally, but YUM there is almost nothing yummier than movie theater popcorn and a diet coke!
