Effing KNEE!!!

in All Posts

I worked with my leg propped up and my knee iced all day long….

(See the wine and champagne for the rehearsal dinner in the background?)

Sometimes my knee hurt so badly, I just straight iced it, no towel!

UGH. My stupid Chondromalacia is flaring up in my left knee… the really bad knee. I felt stabbing pain in the last 1.0 mile of my 5.0-mile run.  Now, I’m wearing my knee sleeve on the couch and popping aspirin.   I have no idea why it’s suddenly acting up.

No running for me tomorrow!

Snack was Grape Nuts and yogurt and blackberries.

Plus another serving (oh, Grape Nuts… I am addicted to you).

And… I had a very strange "dinner." I guess it was more breakfast-for-dinner!  Kashi Waffles, sliced banana, and PB

All drizzled in maple syrup.

With a side salad (I felt the need to eat a vegetable with dinner!)…

And a couple of pickles. 🙂 TOLD YOU it was a weird dinner. 🙂

I had a wonderful day today, did you?  I had an amazing Christmas miracle happen to me today.  Wish I could tell you guys what happened, but it has to be a secret. :)  Let’s just say a acquaintance did something very, very sweet for me, and it made my day! 🙂

Have a good night!

That does not look like fun, sorry. I have no experience with injuries (knock on wood) but maybe your recent speed work contributed to that?

  • carolinebee December 18, 2008, 7:27 pm

sorry about your knee! It sounds like you are following your own good advice and resting and taking care of it! Maybe some of that champagne will help too..i’m just sayin..

Glad you had a good day and got a little Christmas miracle! I enjoyed my relaxing, random day. First official day of winter vacation for me…and I’m loving having nothing to do and NOT being stressed. Oh, and I bought the first Twilight book tonight, so I may need to start that before I head to bed! 🙂

Hi Caitlin – daily lurker but first comment. I’m sure you have thought of this but I think you need to invest in some new shoes. Worn out shoes is a cause of runner’s knee and you have put way too many miles on those shoes with all your running. I know new shoes are not cheap but they are worth it to keep you healthy and running. Good luck!!

  • seeleelive (for the love of peanut butter) December 19, 2008, 4:44 am

all these bloggers have been posting up SECRETS-i cant find to know!

  • Caitlin (see bride run) December 19, 2008, 5:55 am

erin – maybe!! because i think sunday’s race probably counts as speedwork and then i did it again on monday, and usually i only do speedwork 1 x a week. so that might be the culprit.

sarah – you’re right… it is definitely time for new shoes. ;(

  • Mica December 19, 2008, 5:57 am

Ooh, sorry about your knee! In HS anatomy, we learned that the knee is called “the beauty and the beast” because it’s both wondrously and hideously complex as body parts go. Yikes.

    Hope you’re feeling better!

  • Carolina John December 19, 2008, 6:55 am

I feel your knee pain, literally. i’ve been fighting the left knee and left shin pain all week. it’s not fun.

  • Karen December 19, 2008, 7:20 am

I used to have knee problems too when I ran. What worked for me was the icing and stretching, plus I got SuperFeet orthodics. (You just take out the original insoles that came with your shoes and replace them with the SuperFeet.)

The additional support made a huuuuge difference!
