Quitversary!

in All Posts

Yes, I’m making it my personal goal to have canned pumpkin in every. single. breakfast this week! 🙂

Today’s simple breakfast featured Pumpkin Peanut Butter.  I really wanted to smear pumpkin on toast, but knew the lack of fat, protein, and calories in general wouldn’t hold me over through the 7 miler I’m about to embark on.

I combined 1 tablespoon PB, 2 tablespoons pumpkin, a drizzle of honey, a little cinnamon, and some crushed almonds to make a very satisfying toast topper.

Pumpkin: it’s what’s for breakfast.  Again.  🙂

Quitversary

Today is the one-year anniversary of quitting my job as an urban planner and transitioning to being a full-time blogger, writer, acupuncture clinic co-owner, speaker, and freelancer.

IMG_2596

A lot has happened to me in the last year (writing a book, launching a clinic, and appearing on The Today Show stand out in my mind as the game-changers), and I honestly cannot believe it’s only been 365 days since I called my boss and uttered the wonderful words, “Hello.  It’s Caitlin.  I wanted to tell you that I’ve been writing a blog secretly for two years, sold a book concept, and am quitting my job… today.”

But you know what really stands out over the last 365 days? YOU.  Thank you for reading my blog, encouraging me to follow my dreams, and giving me money advice when I freak out over paying self-employment taxes.  Thanks for posting Operation Beautiful notes and buying the Operation Beautiful book. Thanks for commenting on Healthy Tipping Point and sharing your own goals and passions, too.  I really love reading every comment that comes through and hearing more about what makes other people tick.  Thank you for writing your own blogs if you have one, too.  I really believe in the awesome power of this e-community and appreciate everyone who contributes in their own way.

I completely recognize that my life would not be the same in one small fraction if it wasn’t for each and every one of you who read HTP everyday.  THANK YOU for changing my life.

IMG_2594

Thank you, thank you.  Here’s to hoping the next 365 days are just as fun.

  • Maura September 22, 2010, 12:55 pm

I can honestly say reading your blog has changed my life. So thank YOU! Without HTP, I don’t know that I ever would have laced up my sneaks, or gotten back into my true passion of writing. You brighten every morning for me…’cause yes, I check HTP before I do any actual real work…but uh, don’t tell my boss 😉 Congrats on a great quitversary!

  • Katie September 22, 2010, 1:00 pm

Hey Caitlin! Great post…Thank you for being so inspirational…you really motivate me (and others obviously) to not settle for just getting by. You really encourage excellence (though not perfection) and to be the best we can be by believing in our own dreams. Have a great Quit-versary. Go out and rock those seven miles..its a great day in Charlotte!

  • Satu September 22, 2010, 1:10 pm

Congrats on your Quitversary, Caitlin! It is a pleasure to read a well written blog. 🙂

I don’t think I’ve reached my own healthy tipping point yet, but here I come..

  • Stephanie September 22, 2010, 1:13 pm

Well I have to tell you that you quitting your job was the best thing that happend to me too! Reading your (and others) healthy lifestyle blog has helped inspire me to continue a healty life style. I lost 35lbs about a year ago and still have serveral more to go, it gets very discouraging. But reading others journeys every day has remotivated me to keep going and being fit for life! Thank you so much and congrats on 1 year of doing what you love!

  • Rachel September 22, 2010, 1:15 pm

Hi! I guess today would be a great day for a “first post!” I have been reading your blog for about 1 month now, and I really really love it. I love the stories you share (yours and readers), the yummy recipes (LOVE PUMPKIN), and all of the tips. I also think that Operation Beautiful is amazing and I am so happy to know about it. Thank you for all you do, and I’m looking forward to reading your future posts!

  • Andrea September 22, 2010, 2:08 pm

Happy Quitversary! Strangely it’s a “versary” for me today too- the one year anniversary of the best decision I’ve ever made: to come home from school and focus on recovery. The past year has been absolutely illuminating! It’s so important to celebrate things like “quitversary”s, thanks for being awesome 🙂

  • JsEverydayFashion September 22, 2010, 2:09 pm

    Caitlin,
Thanks for sharing your story! I loved learning more about how you got where you are today. I started an everyday fashion blog in May that has enjoyed a lot of success so far, I’m working on a book proposal and hope to eventually make blog/fashion-y things my full-time gig. Only… my marketing job of 4 years is coming to an end in a couple weeks (lay-offs). I’m torn between applying for new marketing positions and pursuing the book/blogging activities. Right now I’m fully devoted to pursing both – but do you have any advice for someone who’s Quitversary came a little too soon?
    Best,
    J.

    • Caitlin September 22, 2010, 3:34 pm

i would say… apply to jobs and work on your blogs. book/blogging stuff takes a lot of time, which takes up a lot of money. it’s best to do both until one can sustain you!

  • Kylie @ A Hungry Spoon September 22, 2010, 2:12 pm

Congratulations! Thank you for sharing so much of yourself and inspiring food bloggers everywhere 🙂 It’s a day worth celebrating!

I’ve been a loyal reader of HTP for a while. Thanks for everyday wonderful posts, they are so inspiring. Reading ur blog is one of my favorite things each day.

  • Julia @ British Bride September 22, 2010, 5:27 pm

    Big up yourself!!

I have your story in mind all the time, as I would love to be a full time blogger. I am currently working HARD on a secret blog project and will let you know when I launch. You basically have all my dreams checked off…book, freelance etc! I will look forward to the day I can make that call…that thought keeps me going when things suck at work..maybe I will be in your position in another say, 2 or 3 years!

  • Jillian@ ReshapeYour Life September 22, 2010, 6:10 pm

It’s been a big year for you!! I’m so glad you choose to share your journey with us… You inspire me and motivate me to keep running and make healthier choices. Thank YOU! 🙂

  • Jaime Runs September 22, 2010, 7:09 pm

Congrats! I had my Quitversary on June 26th. It came and went and I didn’t even realize. I certainly haven’t done anything like you’ve accomplished, but I paid off all my credit card debt, both cars and saved a down payment for a house (all from QUITTING my job… weird how that happened…)

Anyway, so happy that you are still at it and getting more successful each day. I know how scary it is to take that big step!

  • Mary (What's Cookin' with Mary) September 22, 2010, 7:39 pm

Thank you for writing it !!

  • Lauren @ Team Giles September 22, 2010, 11:34 pm

I may not always comment (I’m terrible at not commenting, sorry!) but I faithfully read your blog daily. You were the first “Healthy Living” blog I ever read back in the “See Bride Run” days and YOU inspired me to transition my wedding blog into a healthy living blog. So THANK YOU for being a huge inspiration. Since I’ve been a healthy living blogger I’ve lost 33 lbs and counting, ran a half-marathon and the second is set for October 17th. I love this e-community and appreciate YOU more than you may know. 🙂

    • Caitlin September 23, 2010, 9:33 am

I didn’t know you’d lose all that weight since you started to blog – wow! congrats 🙂

      • Lauren @ Team Giles September 24, 2010, 4:04 pm

yeah some of it has been slow going, but finally I’m starting to shed the unhealthy weight I’ve had on me for a while. I couldn’t be happier! Blogging has definitely helped keep me motivated. 🙂

  • Bridget September 23, 2010, 8:02 am

I’ve been away, but wanted to say congratulations!

  • Maura September 23, 2010, 8:35 am

Congrats Caitlin! You were the first blog I started reading and even inspired me to start my own!!

  • Ashley September 23, 2010, 10:50 am

That’s amazing – congrats! It’s great to look back at the life-changing moments from our past. One of mine has been to start a personal quest for health and fitness, inspired in part by you!

  • Erin September 23, 2010, 11:48 am

Thank you, Caitlin!! I’ve learned so much from you and am grateful for your awesome, empowering blog. Your fitness achievements are a source of inspiration and were one of the reasons I raced in two sprint-tris this past summer. 🙂

  • Stacy @Student of Healthy Living September 23, 2010, 12:14 pm

Yay congrats!! Thank you for sharing your story. I look forward to having my own quitaversary in oh about 2.5 years. It seems so far away some days, but reading your blog and others helps me to remain hopeful and optimistic. I am grateful for the blogosphere and how many amazing women like yourself inspire me everyday. Not only have you inspired me to reach fitness and health goals, but life goals as well. I will reach my goal of one day working a job where I look forward to going to work. I will reach my goal of working in an environment where I am appreciated for my work. I will reach my goal of viewing my job as a career and not just a job to earn money. Thank you so much for helping me to change my life for the better 🙂

  • Angela (Oh She Glows) September 24, 2010, 11:12 am

Oh its been too long without my HTP!
Congrats on 1 year of your quitiversary!!!

  • Tiffany (Stuffed With Fluff) September 26, 2010, 10:42 pm

Congrats again on your quitversary! Your story is actually really inspirational for me. I’m really miserable in my current position, and while I haven’t quite figured out what I truly want to do, I’m still researching other options for the time being.I just have to believe that everything will fall into place when it’s meant to.
