I Did Not Throw Up on Meredith Vieira!

It’s 11:00AM and it’s already the most amazing day of my life!

IMG_9726

I was on The Today Show this morning promoting my book, which is now in stores!  It was truly an incredible, crazy, awesome experience.  And I wasn’t even that nervous!

It’s time we STOP focusing on the scale, and STOP obsessing over the mirror.  Beauty is balance, beauty is health, beauty is kindness.   The healthy living blog community really helped me understand the greatness inside each of us – we have such a capacity for love and kindness.  You are beautiful!

The clip:

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

My morning started off really early!  BFF Lauren stayed in my hotel last night, and we both woke up around 5:20 AM.  I had ordered room service so I had something healthy to munch on.  The portions were huge – I had eggs, toast, and fruit, but split the entire thing with Lauren without a problem.  My breakfast:

I was so happy that Lauren was there this morning!  She is very calm and rational, and it rubbed off on me!

IMG_9718

At 7 AM, Lauren and I said goodbye, and I walked downstairs to meet Publicist Lindsay in the lobby.  She whisked me in a car, and we drove over to Rockefeller Center.

It was a mad house!

IMG_9728

And guess who else was there?  Several other healthy living bloggers came to support me with the cutest signs!  They were on TV, too!  You girls RULE.

Once I arrived in the Green Room, I talked to Publicist Lindsay and Publicist Adenike a little bit, went over the interview with a producer, and then I was taken to hair and makeup.

untitled

Fun fact:  the man who did my hair once did Jennifer Aniston’s hair for a movie!

Ran into some mommy bloggers who were visiting the Today Show for the BlogHer conference!

IMG_9722

Upon re-entering the Green Room, I saw Victoria Stillwell in the corner (she has a reality show called “It’s Me or the Dog” about dog training).  I resisted every urge to scream and jump up and down!  I was more excited to meet her than anyone else – I LOVE HER SHOW.  I also resisted the urge to tell her how crazy my dogs are and ask her to come to my house.

IMG_9724

I also spotted the Pioneer Woman and said hi!

And then… it was time to go!

Honestly, I wish I could say I fully lived in the moment, but the minute those cameras turned to me and I heard, “We’re here with Caitlin Boyle…”  everything went kind of black.  I did the total interview on autopilot.   It was a BLUR and over SO FAST even though it was nearly 5 minutes long!  I tried to emphasize all my points, resist the strong desire to play with my hair, and SMILE!  I thought about all my friends and family supporting me and definitely felt all the positive vibes from the blog world!

I felt so relieved when it was done!  My publicists were happy, and I felt like doing major fist pumps in the middle of the studio.

IMG_9723

Whew!!

Came home and excitingly checked the blogs and Twitter.  The outpouring of support has been unreal, and I am SO thankful.  I TOTALLY realize none of this would be possible without our awesome blogger + reader community and am eternally grateful.

Munched on some leftover fruit, made some calls, and now I’m trying to recompose myself for more press.

In case you’re interested:

  • I’ll be on the Sirius Radio show “Broadminded” from 3 to 3:30.
  • I’m also on the Sirius show “Cocktails with Patrick” from 3:30 to 4.
  • And last, but not least, I’m going to be on “Good Day Philadelphia” at 10:45 PM <— gonna be a long day!

Gotta go too lunch.  :) Thanks again for everything!  I’m glad I can share this wild ride with you!

There are so many women who saw your interview this morning and were touched by what you said…like I’ve told you before, you will NEVER KNOW how many lives you have touched by writing Operation Beautiful! That is awesome!!

I believe God is using you to spread a powerful message, that He created us B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L! So proud of you, girl :-) Good luck with the rest of your busy day!!

Caitlin,
You are so inspirational. I’ve been reading your blogs for the past year and they have helped motivate me to be a better me! I decided today to end my own “fat talk” once and for all….even though it’s going to be hard because I’ve been “fat talking” since I learned how to talk. I grew up listening to my dad call my mom fat (she’s a size 6) all the time. He has called me “chunky”, “ugly” and “big” too (I’m a size 4). You inspire me to ignore him, move on, and take control. Thank you so much!

Watching this today was extremely emotional for me. I have always been overweight, I even got up to 186 at one point. Considering I’m 5’4, that’s far from healthy. I was constantly criticized by my Mom for my weight. Never outright calling my fat, but as you put it “fat talk”. “Are you going to eat all that?” “You know that’s really fattening.” “You JUST ate!”

I lost over forty pounds in less than a year. And over the past few months I’ve perhaps gained three or four pounds. A few weeks ago I put on some jeans and was looking at myself in the mirror. My Mom said “Looking at your butt?” I thought she was going to comment on how I looked good. But she added “Thinking those jeans are a little tight and you should drop a few pounds?” My heart sunk. I’ve lost forty pounds and although I’m far from perfect, I was happy with myself.

When I confronted her later about it, she thought she was helping me. Drawing my attention to a problem. I’m glad that your website and new book are there to help those like me, who can’t get positive body image from their mothers.

Thank you.

The Today show is such a part of American life that for some people they will be even more impressed with this than having written a book(ah the zany power of tv! ;)

I rarely comment, but I’ve been reading since fairly early on in See Bride Run. What you’re doing is amazing on so many levels. You are a legit author (!!), and fairly famous already at that! That is your dream, and you made it happen. That is flat-out awesome. And if you had written a book about your life only, or recipes, or something along those lines, this would be a huge accomplishment.

But what really speaks to me is that your book is something that will make a difference to so many girls and women. You’re talking about something that is really important, that truly affects peoples’ quality of life, and improving it for them. I think fat talk is something ~99% of women experience to some degree, and its such a shame, but its not that often addressed. When Meredith asked you “what is fat talk?” I saw a look in her eyes like she knows exactly what it is (maybe reading too much into it, but how could a woman on TV not?). We as a society expect women to look a certain way or else almost be less of a woman, and not enough people voice how unfair and wrong that is.

Sorry if this is rambling. I just think that you are truly making the world a better place, and that is amazing. Heartfelt congratulations on your success.

After reading food blogs (including yours), I’m finally leaving my first comment! I was so excited to see you on the Today Show this morning and quickly went to Borders right after to pick up a copy of your book. I almost half of it in Borders Cafe after I bought it and I’m already deeply touched. I had to keep fighting back tears the whole time! I’ve been struggling with my body image since I was 3!! Way too young! I developed an eating disorder in high school and even after I returned to regular eating habits, I’ve been struggling with fat talk. Your book really hits home for me and I can only hope I can improve with my body image and to stop fat talk for good! You have been a true inspiration and I thank you for this book! I want to buy it for everyone I know!

Just watched the clip for the first time, you were amazing! Your posts are making a habit of making me well up!!! I am glad you’re having such a good time in NYC! I am expecting my copy of OB to be delivered today- I am so looking forward to it! Wow, I would not have been able to contain the screams if I had met Victoria Stillwell; she’s fantastic! If I ever were to meet Cesar Millan, I’d probably faint, haha.Enjoy your time in NY and have a safe trip home :-)

Caitlin, you did an amazing job on the Today show! (Being in Australia, of course I didn’t get to see it on TV – but so glad you posted the clip!) You looked beautiful, and got the Operation Beautiful message out there in a clear and intelligent way – you go girl! :)
