Pumpkin Seeker

in All Posts, I Love Pumpkin!

I have been stalking the supermarket for the return of Libby’s pumpkin (it’s seasonal).  But nothing yet!  Labor Day is around the corner! Summer is OVER!  Where is the pumpkin!?

IMG_1390

Organic pumpkin is not the same as the Libby’s brand, unfortunately.

Is pumpkin available where you live yet?  Last December, I bought a case of pumpkin and made it part way through spring on my stash!

Non-pumpkiny afternoon snack:

Melon and cashews!  A summer snack.  🙂

Post-work, the Husband took me to his clinic for an acupuncture treatment.  It was very relaxing.  I also had cupping done on my back because my lower back has been aching with all my fast running.

IMG_1380

He’s officially treating patients now, which is so exciting!

The completed waiting room (I can’t take credit for this; my mother-in-law designed it… she has a good eye!):

After all that Chinese medicine, I was craving some Asian-inspired stir fry for dinner.

Perfect Baked tofu, brown rice, and steamed broccoli with soy sauce.

More House Hunters is on the agenda!  🙂

I wish my bf could give me treatment of some sort. He’s an attorney so I guess I’m all set if I get in trouble…. I’d rather have a back rub.

    • Maria @ Oh Healthy Day September 1, 2010, 12:54 am

Haha. I ditto this. My Fiance is a webspam analyst. He can fight spam on my blog and give SEO advice, but sometimes you just need a good massage instead 😉

  • Evan Thomas August 31, 2010, 9:01 pm

Haven’t checked, but I swear they carry pumpkin year round here. Maybe it’s a New England thing? I mean, clearly we need to have pumpkin, apple cider, and maple syrup available at all times to live up here…

  • Kristen @ That Hoosier Girl August 31, 2010, 9:01 pm

No pumpkin here in the midwest! The Kroger people probably think I’m stalking aisle 3 🙂

I learned my lesson after this past year…stock up in the fall!

  • Kris August 31, 2010, 9:02 pm

I remember there was a pumpkin shortage last year due to drought, so maybe the shortage continues? I looked a few months ago and couldn’t find pumpkin, but have been meaning to look this week. Hope we can find it!

  • Ellen @ Undercover Runner Eats August 31, 2010, 9:02 pm

I’ve been craving and looking for pumpkin for the past few weeks now and I have NOTHING. Literally nothing. I have no preference at this point. No NOTHING.

  • Leanne @ Radiant, Balanced & Fit August 31, 2010, 9:02 pm

I really like the waiting room! Good job mother in law 🙂

  • Estela @ Weekly Bite August 31, 2010, 9:03 pm

His practice looks great! I’m not craving pumpkin just yet… maybe towards the end of September 🙂

  • Heather August 31, 2010, 9:04 pm

we have had a pumpkin shortage here, we havent had any in forever!!!

  • Mary @ Travel Sized Living August 31, 2010, 9:06 pm

The tofu looks awesome, I looked at the recipe and was happy to see so few ingredients! I will have to try it. The waiting room looks great, too- very comfortable and relaxing and good lighting.

  • Sarena (The Non Dairy Queen) August 31, 2010, 9:07 pm

Ugh, I can’t find pumpkin! I didn’t buy any last year because I bought pumpkins from a farm and roasted them (and froze it). I ate it too fast! So, I am really ready to get my hands on some! I will be stocking up too!

  • Mandy A August 31, 2010, 9:09 pm

I have only heard of ONE store here in Nashville that has pumpkin available! I am hoping that changes soon! 🙂 I’d love to have some pumpkin oats this fall!

  • Kelly August 31, 2010, 9:10 pm

Hooray for the husbands business being up and running!

  • Shelley August 31, 2010, 9:11 pm

I think our stores must carry it year round because I bought some a few weeks ago. But they only had one row of it so I’m assuming they just carry a small amount until fall is in full force.

  • hippierunner August 31, 2010, 9:12 pm

Such a simple but satisfying dinner! So lucky you get a treatment, lol!

  • Devon August 31, 2010, 9:13 pm

I have been searching high and low for the last few weeks, especially since Angela has started with her pumpkin recipes…ARGH! I am buying an entire case this year!!

  • Kristy @ KristyRuns.com August 31, 2010, 9:15 pm

I am ALL about the pumpkin! I’m waiting until mid-September to really begin my autumn culinary additions though. 😉 THEN it’s pumpkin lattes, pie, and bread. Mmmm Mmmm Mmmmmmm! P.S. I really want to try acupuncture. Anything relaxing + healing = Yes, Please!

  • Wendy August 31, 2010, 9:15 pm

Last year there was a pumpkin shortage – so I expect it might carry over until after pumpkins are harvested this fall. Boo!

  • Shari August 31, 2010, 9:15 pm

Here in Kentucky we have pumpkin year round. I bought some last week at the grocery.

Love the waiting area a the clinic! It looks very calming.

  • Caitlin @ Right Foot Forward August 31, 2010, 9:16 pm

I haven’t seen pumpkin near me yet, but as it is over 90*, I’m not craving it – yet. I did get an email from Starbucks today about their Pumpkin Latte and new Toffee Mocha (or something like that) Latte being available now!

  • Paula August 31, 2010, 9:16 pm

Yup, the pumpkin shortage continues. I haven’t been able to buy it here (FL) in months. I used to give it to my dogs daily, but no such luck anymore. Boo!

  • Lizzy @ LBBakes August 31, 2010, 9:16 pm

Store-brand pumpkin is back on the shelves in upstate NY! But not Libbys!

  • lisasfoods August 31, 2010, 9:16 pm

I usually stick with the organic pumpkin, but I haven’t looked for any canned pumpkin yet. The weather’s been too summery, so we’re eating lots of raw and fresh foods here.

  • diana August 31, 2010, 9:17 pm

omg! i used libby’s pumpkin too. when i kept going back to the market in the beginning of this year, i couldnt understand why there was no more! then i realized because the season was over, duh! you got me hooked on pumpkin oatmeal!

  • Lizzy August 31, 2010, 9:20 pm

i love that you love house hunters as much as i do . i watch every night!

  • Donca August 31, 2010, 9:26 pm

I live in New England also and Libby’s canned pumpking is available all year round here. They are a lot cheaper during the fall but it is sold all year round.I do agree that Libby’s is the best. YUM

  • Annie@stronghealthyfit August 31, 2010, 9:27 pm

I just bought 2 cans of the same organic pumpkin that’s in your picture! I like Libby’s too, I’m not that picky 🙂 I decided that my strategy is going to be to pick up 2-4 cans every week at the store so I have a good supply for the winter months! I’m so addicted to pumpkin overnight oats, and of course I need some to make pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, pumpkin pancakes… basically pumpkin everything 🙂

  • Emily August 31, 2010, 9:27 pm

No way. Summer can’t be over b/c I haven’t eaten nearly enough tomatoes yet! We are getting a CSA and they haven’t had any tomatoes yet, so we haven’t been buying them. (I live in CO, so we’re a little behind here 🙂

  • Gina August 31, 2010, 9:28 pm

Do you have a Whole Foods nearby? The one by me offers canned pumpkin year round!
By they way, I read your Blogging Tips page and finally started a food blog today, I have been wanting to all year! Please stop by! My husband also started a green living blog Called Deviate (deviatenow.blogspot.com).
Thanks for all you do Caitlin!

  • Jessica @ The Process of Healing August 31, 2010, 9:30 pm

    The office is gorgeous!

The organic is definately NOT near as good as Libby’s! I think I still have 1 can left. But I think it will be available soon!

  • Julie @ Wearing Mascara August 31, 2010, 9:32 pm

Gah – I looked for pumpkin at my store recently and it’s not there yet. They said it should be a month (I’m in Lancaster, PA). Anyways, the waiting room looks gorgeous! Your MIL did a great job!

  • Shanna, like Banana August 31, 2010, 9:35 pm

Libby’s pumpkin does trump the organic but I’ll take what I can get!

  • Jillian@ ReshapeYourLife August 31, 2010, 9:35 pm

I have never had pumpkin, I have just always assumed I didn’t like it.

Acupuncture seems very interesting. I may have to look into that! Too bad Charlotte isn’t closer to Texas!

  • Carly (Swim, Run, Om) August 31, 2010, 9:36 pm

I like the office decor! Very swanky. 🙂

No pumpkin in SoGa, either. I’m DYING down here! Must … make … pumpkin chili … immediately!

  • Janelle August 31, 2010, 9:36 pm

The town just north of us has a cannery that does pumpkin – (perhaps even Libbys?) and we’re still about a month off “pumpkin season” – sorry. Takes some time to grow such goodness!

  • Alyssa August 31, 2010, 9:37 pm

I think they carry canned pumpkin year round? But then again I live in MN. Are you looking at just a normal big grocery store?

  • Wei-Wei August 31, 2010, 9:39 pm

SO many certificates in the Hub’s office! So pro… literally 😉 I don’t use much canned pumpkin, but my mom cooked half a kabocha squash with butter the other day. SO GOOD. I even blogged about it, hehe.

  • Annie (Delicious Wellness) August 31, 2010, 9:39 pm

What’s the difference in taste of the organic pumpkin vs. Libby’s?

    • Caitlin September 1, 2010, 8:57 am

      Organic is watery!

  • Alyssa August 31, 2010, 9:39 pm

This article says Libby’s says it should be on store shelves by the second week of Sept.

    http://www.myjournalcourier.com/news/region-28650-looking-good.html

  • Heather @ Side of Sneakers August 31, 2010, 9:42 pm

No Libby’s spottings for me yet- last year I could only find it in Target, and when I saw it, I bought it all out haha. I did see 3 kinds of pumpkin beer at the grocery store today though 😉

  • myra August 31, 2010, 9:42 pm

All the best for your hubby’s practice , the office looks great.

  • Elizabeth August 31, 2010, 9:44 pm

I haven’t been able to find any pumpkin in months since the crops in central florida were frozen and ruined in March. It’s terrible because I have been dying for pumkin gnocchi for forever now.

  • Jordan August 31, 2010, 9:47 pm

I’ve been on the look out for Libby’s pumpkin too! I can’t wait to put some in my morning oatmeal.

  • Erin @ A Girl and Her Mutt August 31, 2010, 9:48 pm

I’m so glad that his office is open! It looks really lovely and inviting! Congrats to him!

  • elyssa August 31, 2010, 9:48 pm

i really enjoy the 365 brand pumpkin from whole foods, but i hear what youre saying about libbys. so amazing. i recently incorporated pumpkin into my traditional breakfast ‘souffle’. usually i do 1 egg + 1 tbs peanut butter + 1 tbs flax seed. all mixed up in a ramekin and microwaved for 2 min. its my staple. but ohh i started adding a couple spoonfuls of pumpkin. topped with maple syrup and cinnamon. its pumpkin pie for breakfast!!

  • holly @ couchpotatoathlete August 31, 2010, 9:54 pm

I haven’t had pumpkin in so long — each time I want some my grocer is out! And you are so right — Libbys is the best!

Congrats to your hubby (and you!)on his practice opening — that lobby area is beautiful!

  • Halley (Blunder Construction) August 31, 2010, 9:56 pm

I have a rule that I can’t start pumpkin fest until the first day of autumn. After that, it’s ON for the next 8 monthes! My Whole Foods does keep their organic pumpkin pie mix stocked all year round. No sign of Libby yet though. Keeping a keen eye out.

  • Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday August 31, 2010, 9:58 pm

We have pumpkin in the baking aisle all year round next to the pumpkin pie filling. I like ED SMith brand but I’m not sure if they have that in the US

  • Chelsey August 31, 2010, 10:02 pm

I can’t WAIT for pumpkin!!!! I tend to only use it during the fall so I can look forward to it every year.

  • Heather (heather's dish) August 31, 2010, 10:06 pm

i love the waiting room! it’s perfect…the colors are great and it seems so relaxing 🙂

i tried to find pumpkin the other day and no dice…maybe next week?!

  • Michal August 31, 2010, 10:10 pm

I had pumpkin on the brain tonight too 🙂 It’s actually going to be in my blog post tomorrow. It’s almost impossible to get canned pumpkin around here except for November – Whole Foods is the exception. I haven’t tried Trader Joe’s though…

  • KatieTX August 31, 2010, 10:13 pm

I am watching House Hunters right now 🙂 They have pumpkin all the time here in Texas, Libby brand!!

  • Carin August 31, 2010, 10:16 pm

I’m confused…. can you explain why you use canned pumpkin (especially Libby’s brand) instead of fresh pumpkin? I’m in New Zealand (originally from the UK) and don’t think I’ve seen it canned here, although it’s available fresh all year round. What do you think I should add/ do to fresh pumpkin to approximate the canned stuff?

    • Naomi September 1, 2010, 1:42 am

Hi Carin, I’m in Australia so it’s sort of the same. I think the canned stuff is sort of more concentrated and just easier to use as you don’t have to cook it and blend it. I have a US Foods store not too far from me so I have bought it there before but I’ve never seen it anywhere else. If you cook and mash / blend it it’ll be the same.

      • Caitlin September 1, 2010, 8:58 am

Yea, it’s just easier – no work involved 🙂

  • Babycakes August 31, 2010, 10:17 pm

We have pumpkin here in Boston (including Libby’s) all year round. I have never ever seen it out of stock. Definitely agree with Evan – it’s a New England thing.

The husband’s treatment room looks fantastic. I would SO love my future huz to be an acupuncturist. I love it and strongly believe in its benefits! 🙂

  • Nicole, RD August 31, 2010, 10:19 pm

I love the waiting room…it’s so relaxing-looking! 🙂 And congrats to him on seeing patients! Wooo!!!

I stock piled Libby’s pumpkin, so I haven’t even looked! I will next time I’m at the store, though!

  • Stacey August 31, 2010, 10:24 pm

Awww 🙂 how nice of ur gunny! The new office looks very good, congrats!!

    • Stacey August 31, 2010, 10:26 pm

Bwhahaha 🙂 I meant ‘hubby’ of course. Is gunny even a word? 😉

      • Rebecca August 31, 2010, 10:43 pm

LOL. “Gunny” in the Navy is short for Gunnery Sergeant. 🙂

  • Jen August 31, 2010, 10:26 pm

Your husband’s office reminds me of my husband’s office with all those diplomas & certificates on the walls! We married smart & talented men! (mine is an Osteopath)

  • Jacqueline August 31, 2010, 10:29 pm

You might want to check Walmart. I live in Cali. and ours carries Libby’s year round.
The office and treatment rooms look so beautiful & relaxing. 🙂

  • Kaitlyn (College Girl Runs) August 31, 2010, 10:41 pm

I haven’t been able to find pumpkin since July when I started looking! The worker at whole foods told me that there was a shortage last year :/ and that I should wait until the fall for it to be restocked! Hopefully it will be soon because I have been wanting to add pumpkin in my oats and greek yogurt 🙂

    The office look great, btw!

  • Rebecca August 31, 2010, 10:43 pm

Mom said the other day that she looked ALL OVER our regular grocery store and couldn’t find pumpkin. Very disappointing. I don’t know if our Wal-Mart carries it year-round or not… We’re hoping our stores are just late in stocking it or something, because we kinda want some pumpkin!

    The office looks super! =)

  • Jean@RoastedRootsPumpkinSpice August 31, 2010, 10:46 pm

Ive been waiting for canned pumpkin too! It’s my favorite and I’m gonna stock up whenever it comes around again.

  • Christine August 31, 2010, 10:48 pm

I looked for canned pumpkin this past weekend and the grocery store manager said there was some shortage but should be out in the stores soon. I was in the mood for pumpkin bread but I’ll have to wait!

  • Samantha August 31, 2010, 10:58 pm

Actually, pumpkin isn’t seasonal in many places, they carry it year round. But last year there was a shortage which cut supplies extremely low. We haven’t had it on island for 8 months and it’s normal here all the time.

    Those cashews look SOOO Good!

  • Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) August 31, 2010, 11:01 pm

I am impressed by all that paper on the wall!!! He is well educated/ trained!!

  • Shelly August 31, 2010, 11:02 pm

No libby’s pumpkin in AL yet. I keep stalking the shelves of every grocery store I go in. I did find some organic pumpkin in a local health food store for over $3 a can :-O

  • Lindsey August 31, 2010, 11:02 pm

My local grocery store has tons of canned pumpkin! 🙂 I want to buy some now and make some yummy pumpkin bars soon. YUM!

  • Lea @ Healthy Coconut August 31, 2010, 11:11 pm

Nice waiting room, it has a very Zen feel. Is that what your mother in law wanted? If it was, the mission accomplished.

There’s a lot of Chinese medicine practice here in Orange County. Some have bamboos or running water in their office. Love it! Almost like a spa.

On to the pumpkin topic, my local Wholefoods carry the organic pumpkin that you showed on the picture. I haven’t had Libby’s brand yet…so I must find this brand. Is it going to be sold at health food stores or any supermarket like Ralph’s, Vons and etc?

    • Caitlin September 1, 2010, 8:58 am

I think she was going for zen and not clinical and cold!

  • Gracie (complicated day) August 31, 2010, 11:12 pm

I’m confused. I live in New Orleans (no pumpkin is here by nature ever under any circumstances) and I can buy it canned year round at any of my grocery stores. I honestly don’t recall ever being unable to buy it in the summer anywhere I lived, and we moved to many states growing up. So I can’t help you on this one. I think maybe you should talk to your grocery store manager; I have asked mine to carry certain products and he was able to comply.

  • Shallin August 31, 2010, 11:20 pm

I actually bought a humongous, whole pumpkin today for my front porch! We were at Amish friends tonight to get ingredients for canning homemade spaghetti sauce, and they had these HUGE pumpkins. They thought no one would want them until the beginning of October, but I had to buy one. It weighs 40 pounds and is gorgeous. I hope you find edible pumpkin soon!

  • April @ Crazy Fabulous Life August 31, 2010, 11:22 pm

I’ve always been interested in cupping. Does it really help?

    • Caitlin September 1, 2010, 8:59 am

Yes! It feel sooo good too.

  • diana @ i can eat, cant i? August 31, 2010, 11:27 pm

i finally did it! my first post!

  • Charlie August 31, 2010, 11:29 pm

I actually went looking for canned pumpkin in the beginning of summer and all I found was pumpkin pie filling! Later I found exactly ONE can of pumpkin at an other grocery store!

  • Chelsea @ Strawberry Sweat August 31, 2010, 11:34 pm

I haven’t spotted any Libbys yet. Hoping to see some soon!

What does cupping feel like? Is it painful?

    • caitlin September 1, 2010, 9:21 am

it feels like someone is giving you a rough massage – i love it.

  • Katherine @ Left Coast Contessa August 31, 2010, 11:39 pm

Love House Hunters! And the other day when you tweeted that that guy was a jerk… you were so right!

  • Susan August 31, 2010, 11:52 pm

I’m curious about your thoughts on BPA in canned foods. I only recently learned that it’s such a problem and I’m starting to re-think my canned goods purchases. Obviously I won’t buy plastic bottles with BPA, so shouldn’t I be avoiding most canned goods now too? Thoughts? http://eatdrinkbetter.com/2009/11/16/bpa-is-in-your-canned-food/

    • caitlin September 1, 2010, 9:23 am

huh, interesting. honestly, i just don’t think im cautious enough to care… my mom probably would!

      • Susan September 1, 2010, 2:11 pm

I wasn’t either but then I learned about the effects of BPA on women and fertility, as well as on young girls and their development. It may be an interesting subject to read up on, given the research about how BPA effects us. Although it’s hard feeling like you have to cut out so many foods because of various reasons!

  • Samantha @ Food Edu August 31, 2010, 11:55 pm

I don’t know if you’ve done so already, but I’d love to hear a review/your thoughts on the acupuncture treatments. My friend recently had a bunch done for allergies and swears it is effective. I would love to experience it, but fortunatley I don’t have any medical issues.

    • Caitlin September 1, 2010, 9:28 am

Its good just for relaxation! I should do one general post you’re right.

  • Mary September 1, 2010, 12:05 am

I havent seen pumpkin yet on this side of NC yet either! I want some though! I’m itching to make pumpkin oatmeal pancakes!

  • Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter September 1, 2010, 12:11 am

I am so jealous that you can get those great treatments for free from your loving husband. Seems so amazing 🙂

  • Jaclyn September 1, 2010, 12:33 am

    I don’t think I”ve tried Libby’s brand before, now, I must!

Congrats on his opening of the practice, that’s great! I really wanna try acupuncture someday soon, I think it would be a great muscle/stress reliever. plus different kinds of (eastern) medicine are fascinating!

  • kate September 1, 2010, 1:14 am

i just saw pumpkin on sunday and i considered buying it but i refuse to give up the summer yet!

  • Marina September 1, 2010, 2:54 am

I wish I could have some pumpkin. Can’t wait to make all those yummy things with it.
That waiting room looks really beautiful, and relaxing. Not like those cold white rooms that scare the hell out of you.

  • Freya (Brit Chick Runs) September 1, 2010, 3:03 am

They don’t sell canned pumpkin here 🙁 though I did buy a real pumpkin the other day!

  • Orla September 1, 2010, 3:21 am

I haven’t had canned pumpkin in over a year. The store that carries Libbys in Dublin kept being let down by their stockists in the US. I had 2 cans left last year and my neighbour who is from Florida was having cravings , so I handed over my last can.
I am now having serious pumpkin bread cravings. I am growing my own pumpkins this year and Sontag have 8 on the plant. Might be the solution. Or else I’ll ask my godson in Boston to send me cans for my birthday and Christmas!!!

  • Neen@ Broad bean to Runner Bean September 1, 2010, 4:43 am

we can get libby’s pumpkin here all year round i believe. i’m so jealous of you being able to get acupuncture from yourhubby! i’ll swap you for some year round Libby’s pumpkin!! heh heh!!

  • JL Goes Vegan September 1, 2010, 4:55 am

This time of year I’m always anxiously awaiting the return of Pumpkin Butter to Trader Joe’s. Which reminds me, I’ll have to check the label — this is my first fall as a vegan and I can’t recall if they add anything to it!

  • Emily September 1, 2010, 6:15 am

I’m still searching for pumpkin, too. I definitely agree, organic pumpkin from WH is just NOT the same! Hopefully we get a hold of it soon, or there will be issues 🙂

  • Sana September 1, 2010, 6:23 am

Bahahaha I loled at you craving Asian food after Chinese medicine!

  • Kimberly September 1, 2010, 6:24 am

With the shortage, I haven’t been able to find pumpkin at the stores. I even checked last week. My only source has been the occasional purchase from the organic/green dog shop. Yep. They actually ordered a bunch when they heard about the shortage. It’s just pure pumpkin puree so it’s not like I’m eating dog food. (Still weird, though, I admit.)

  • Courtney September 1, 2010, 6:26 am

Walmart has Libby’s. Someone just needs to mail you some!

  • Christie {Honoring Health} September 1, 2010, 6:32 am

I have been hording three cans since last year and I found those on clearance at Target of all places. I had been searching high and low and when I found them, I literally jumped up and down. My husband thought I had lost my mind.

This year, I am going too raid the store and by what I need as soon as I find it so I don’t have to worry about it anymore!

    Crazy, right?

    Well, you know the deal.

  • Katie Carso September 1, 2010, 7:13 am

Oh I have been buying the canned organic pumpkin because Im too impatient to wait!!! I cant wait to find libbys!!!!!

Your husbands office looks so nice!!!!! I am so happy for him!!!! Your mother in law did a great job with the waiting area!!

  • Lauren at KeepItSweet September 1, 2010, 7:21 am

I bought a huge stash of pumpkin last year and haven’t seen much yet… wonder if the shortage is finally kicking in.

  • Casey September 1, 2010, 7:44 am

At my grocery store, there has been a sign up about the pumpkin shortage since last winter, and they haven’t had one can yet! However, there is another smaller grocery store in town that always has canned pumpkin on the shelves. Not sure why that is.

  • eatmovelove September 1, 2010, 7:50 am

I have pumpkin stocked up. Not Libby’s though…and I’m not sure if it’s in the stores always – it’s in the baking aisle for me…which I tend to frequent 😉

  • Diana (Mymarblerye) September 1, 2010, 7:53 am

I’ve been searching out pumpkin too and can’t find it. So disappointing. I love my pumpkin flavor and will need it for fall.

I recently started acupuncture treatments for my allergies. I haven’t been doing it long enough to know if it is working, but I am excited to give it a chance.

Heheh I love that you related Asian medicine to Asian food:)
    It’s all coming together!!!

Believe it or not, Libby’s is available year-round where I live – in northern Vermont.

  • Amanda September 1, 2010, 8:08 am

I actually grew my own pumpkins this year. I have about 15 of them. I can’t wait to can them (in chunks, puree is unsafe) and use them all winter long!

    • Hannah Hawley September 1, 2010, 8:44 am

You could always freeze the puree! That is what I do.

  • Hannah Hawley September 1, 2010, 8:44 am

I too live in Vermont and Libby’s pumpkin, not just the pie filling, is available year round.
If you send me your address I would be happy to send you a few cans!

awww you so sweet! it’s ok – i don’t want anyone to spend the postage on me 🙂 it will be in stores soon!

      • Hannah Hawley September 1, 2010, 10:04 am

If you change your mind, or its not out soon enough for you, let me know.
Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later!

The pumpkin stays here all throughout the year. And I actually have a can in my pantry right now! What’s funny is that I never really think about it because I know I can have some any time I want!

  • Rebecca September 1, 2010, 11:03 am

Haha…thats pretty funny, I like the organic pumpkin! I have the same one in your picutre. I just keep buying them and buying them at the store so I noticed yesterday I have 3 cans in my pantry. I like the libby’s too but I felt like the organic one tasted more like fresh pumpkin which I roasted for the first time last year and was a HUGE hit with my family. I can get pumpkin all year round at my HEB (organic or Libby’s) but I still see September as the start of pumpkin season! Mmmm, pumpkin spice lattes…..

I feed my animals a raw diet, & pumpkin is an important component of it. Last yr I had to practically buy out the store. It’s only available seasonally here, too (NY) — we moved here from TX, where it was always available yr round, so that was very surprising to me.

I’ve been on the lookout too, almost out

just gotta say… perfect baked tofu = PERFECT.. I have been on a franks red hot sauce+tofu kick lately but decided to give your recipe a whirl.. having it today in a wrap with spinach, sprouts, avocado and laughing cow cheese…YUM! Thanks for the recipe!

oh and i am so glad you liked it!

  • Charise September 1, 2010, 1:45 pm

Funny you should mention the pumpkin hunt – I am planning on starting mine tonight! It’s September, I’m allowed to switch to my fall-cravings foods even if it is 93 degrees out, right?!?

  • Lacey @ Lake Life September 1, 2010, 2:03 pm

Well technically there’s 3 weeks left of summer but here in NY they sell Libby’s all year long!
