The Perfect Baked Tofu

My go-to tofu recipe.  You cannot go wrong with these easy, sweet, spicy marinade.

DSCN9748

Ingredients (for two portions):

  • 2/3 block extra firm tofu
  • 2 tablespoons EVOO
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1/2 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

Preparation:

  • Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Press excess liquid from tofu.  Wrap several paper towels around tofu, and place tofu in between two plates.  Let stand for 15 minutes.
  • Cut tofu in 1 inch by 1 inch pieces.
  • In a small, microwave-safe bowl, mix EVOO, honey, chili powder, black pepper, and paprika.
  • Microwave marinade for 35 seconds and stir thoroughly.
  • Spray cooking sheet.
  • Coat each piece of tofu in marinade and place on cooking sheet.
  • Sprinkle sesame seeds on top of tofu.
  • Cook at 375 for 30 minutes, turning once.
  • Viola! Enjoy!

I just made and ate this recipe. I’m always looking for different ways to cook tofu cubes. This one was good, very crisp, sweet, maybe a little bit too sweet to my taste, but overall, I enjoyed it with a lot of sauteed veggies. Thank you :) !

Ok, you might already do this but I had to share in case you don’t. I do my tofu very similar to this, but I don’t usually do the marinade (mostly because I’m usually throwing it into some other sauce after). Anyhoo! The bane of my existence is turning every piece of tofu. I have always HATED this step whether on the stove or in the oven. I made this the other day in the oven, and instead of flipping it – I just broiled for the last 5 mins. SAME RESULT. I was happy I could have done a cartwheel. It’s the little things, people. Try it! :)

Is the 1/2 tablespoon of pepper correct? that sounds like a lot of pepper.

I came to this link for VEGAN recipes. Honey is not vegan.

I didn’t say it was a vegan recipe?

Yes, your recipe was included in an article about VEGAN dishes…a mistake perhaps. I’m also curious about the black pepper….is that really the correct amount?

Just wanted to give an alternative to placing the marinade in the microwave – heat it on the stove very slowly at a low temp. The microwave will destroy any enzymes that naturally occur in the honey, etc. Peace out and thanks for the recipe!

Quick, easy and tasty recipe. I made it using black tofu and my son and I had it with brussel sprouts and quinoa. I lessened the spice a tad for my son. I flipped once only and it was perfect!
Thanks for sharing…

AWESOME!!! I will never eat cold, unbaked tofu again as long as I can make this. I tried a teriyaki version but this one is way better!!!!

I found this on Pinterest and LOVE IT! I substituted agave nectar for the honey and it turned out great! Thanks!

I just made this, but altered it a little.

I used light agave syrup instead of honey (to make it vegan — light agave is PERFECT for this!), and because I didn’t have ‘pure’ paprika I used a seasoned salt wit paprika in it (sea salt, paprika, parsley, black pepper). I also “pan baked” it because my oven’s not functional right now…it was DELICIOUS! Thanks for posting!
