Things I’m Loving

The Kiddos:

FullSizeRender (9)

So, obviously, I am ALWAYS loving my kids.  But this week is particularly great!   I have lots of things to update you on (general cuteness, sleep training, and potty training), but that will go up in a post on Friday.  Stay tuned.

Wearing Colorful Lipstick:

FullSizeRender (10)

BFF Nicole and I always joke that we feel like clueless 11 year olds dressing up with mom’s makeup when we try to wear “real” lipstick (i.e. not lip balm).  On Saturday, while we were at the mall, and she took me into Sephora to get color matched for an ideal lip color.  I was matched with this purple-pink color and I LOVE IT!  It is so fun to wear bright lipstick!  Also, at only $13 a tube, I can totally get behind the splurge.

These Fun Nail Colors:

Another Sephora purchase was this pretty coral color and this awesome nude confetti polish. Perfect for summertime!

Following Crazy Nail Artists on Instagram:

This is totally random, but I’m SO into following nail artists on Instagram.  Gabby is my favorite – she’s a teenager who does the most incredibly creative nails.  Cool, huh?

Speaking of Nails, this Manicure Kit:

nails 2

I was motivated to buy this cute manicure kit for several reasons. First, I love getting my nails done, but it’s harder than ever to coordinate that, so I want to do more home manicures.  Secondly, I could NEVER find our nail clippers.  Now that it’s in a nice little case, I will hopefully be able to keep better track of everything.  Also, using brand new, high-quality clippers makes me realize that nail clippers are definitely something you should replace/upgrade every now and then – they totally wear down!

Kiwi Crate:

I first wrote about this arts and crafts delivery subscription service for a sponsored post (<— 8 Boredom Busting Indoor Toddler Activities). We loved Kiwi Crate so much that I purchased a year subscription for us.  It is SO awesome (here’s another post about it). Last month’s box was on Gardening, and it was the perfect activity for Henry and me to do while Claire took a super long nap.  It’s really nice to have a pre-organized craft activity to do with Henry – it makes it a lot more fun and enjoyable for me, as the parent, to do these types of things with him (no stress!).  We loveeeeeeeeeeee Kiwi Crate!

Boxing:

FullSizeRender (8)

My bootcamp offers boxing on Tuesday and Thursdays, but I’ve never made it because those days are typically reserved for triathlon-focused cardio.  But I got pulled into an evening class yesterday and had a total blast!  And I woke up this morning with soreeee arms.  Boxing is hard.  And cathartic.  I may do it again soon…

On the Subject of Boxing, Chilling Out on Tri Training:

2015-05-20_0803

I’ve declared this week “no training week.” I have an Olympic triathlon in August, and I have a lot of prep work to do for it. But after Sunday’s race, I kind of just want to chill out on the swimming, biking, and running and just do whatever I feel like doing, not working towards mileage goals.  On Monday, I did yoga; on Tuesday, boxing; and today, I did an intense ab-focused boot camp (I did over 400 different types of crunches and twists and 35 burpees – ouch!).

Eggs:

IMG_3360

I have always been an egg fan, but I’m on a huge egg kick lately (thank you, Whole30!).  Like – I’m tearing through cartons on a weekly basis.  Eggs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (just not all on the same day).  Yum.  My favorite is still over easy on roasted potatoes with lots of ghee.

La Croix Cherry Lime and Lemon Flavors:

Best flavors around!  I’m still into Coconut, but Lemon is definitely reigning supreme these days.

Having a Cleaning Service:

IMG_3358

When Claire was born, I made the decision to hire cleaners to come once every two or three weeks… It has been an absolute lifesaver.  The fact of the matter is that I can either spend three hours working or three hours cleaning my house… And I need to work.  It feels like a splurge but I decided to stop feeling guilty for it.  It’s 100% necessary for my sanity.  I found an local, family-owned company that uses all-natural cleaning products, like vinegar and baking soda.  So I feel really great about supporting that business.  And there is nothing as nice as coming home to a clean house… when you didn’t even lift a finger.

What are you loving lately?

I also LOVE eggs, and ate them daily until I had my yearly physical – my cholesterol was sky high. Since cutting back on eggs it is back in a healthy range – I’m sure you are aware wanted to share my experience. Love photos of your kiddos!

    • Caitlin May 20, 2015, 11:13 am

What I’ve read is that the link between dietary cholesterol and cholesterol in your blood is weak for most individuals (although it can be different from person to person, like you).

  • Claire May 20, 2015, 11:21 am

I LOVE the picture of you with the lipstick. You look so beautiful and vibrant. Also, having someone clean your house is amazing. I would much rather do that, than say, buy clothes I don’t need.

  • Rachel @ Lou Lou Belle May 20, 2015, 11:22 am

Yeeeees! That Cherry-Lime La Croix feels like an indulgence!!! SO good!

  • Marie May 20, 2015, 11:31 am

Crazy question, did you use anything to get your teeth so pretty white? They look amazing and the lipstick color is great! I’m an avid coffee drinker and am always curious to see what folks use to her whiter teeth! The strips have not really worked for me 🙁

    • Caitlin May 20, 2015, 11:46 am

Nope! I think it’s actually the lipstick making my teeth look white!

  • Sagan May 20, 2015, 11:37 am

I am SO looking forward to having a cleaner one day. There is definitely no shame or guilt in it!

<3 Sephora. I've gotta look into those nail colors! They're lovely.

And Combat is my FAVORITE gym class. Anything to do with punching and kicking for fitness is always fun 😀

  • eliza May 20, 2015, 11:38 am

a cleaning service sounds so amazing!! You deserve it:) no need to feel guilty.

I am loving the fact that my baby boy Charles comes so soon (due date is June 22).. I am the gal that emailed you about some “personal” questions regarding him.

  • chelsea @ TableForOne May 20, 2015, 11:44 am

This week has been a do what you are feeling like week for me as well! I have been to two new yoga classes and have gone on beautiful trail runs this week. It was just what I needed.

  • Lorie May 20, 2015, 11:53 am

That is awesome that they use basic, natural cleaning ingredients! I would love a cleaning service but i would hate that most would be filling my home with toxic chemials and noxious perfumes. That is definitely a great find!!

  • Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed May 20, 2015, 11:54 am

I feel like that’s how you know you really made it… someone else cleaning your house 🙂 That’s awesome! Love the lipstick and those kiddos are adorable1

  • Erin @ Her Heartland Soul May 20, 2015, 11:54 am

That lip color looks great on you! Cleaning services are amazing! I’ve only used one once but Josh and I still talk about how amazing it was!

  • Beks May 20, 2015, 11:55 am

That color really brings out your freckles! Super cute! 🙂

I’m loving my bed. So much to get done this week before we go camping, that I just want to let everyone else handle it, and stay curled up in bed. Sadly, no one else agrees with this plan.

  • Amanda May 20, 2015, 12:02 pm

That lipstick color is great on you!!!

  • Julia @ Lord Still Loves Me May 20, 2015, 12:08 pm

Your kids look so much alike! I don’t look like my brother so I always adore when siblings look similar.

  • Julie May 20, 2015, 12:23 pm

That lipstick looks great on you! You look very pretty in that pic.
I’ve had a cleaning lady for years. Never goin’ back! 😛

  • Katie May 20, 2015, 12:53 pm

LOVE that nude confetti polish! Thinking I’ll pick some up soon!

  • Reenie May 20, 2015, 1:06 pm

I’ve been going to Title Boxing Club and doing the power hour 2 x a week ( I need to go more!) Here’s a you tube video of a workout (not the same club I belong to)

Have you ever heard of NorWex? Amazing products ~ cleaning with just water and their cloths. Sounds weird, I know. Getting chemicals out of your home. My mirrors, glass, chrome, car etc., have never looked better. I love the washcloths ~ they take all my makeup off, even waterproof mascara…. with just the cloth and water. It makes my skin feel so clean and soft. I also love the dry/wet mop. Check it out ~ you will be glad you did. Or google for a Rep in your area to have a party to see how the products work. 🙂

Here’s the Rep I order from.

    • Reenie May 20, 2015, 1:08 pm

Forgot to mention that you look great in the lipstick and mascara…. and in the pic of you sitting on the floor ~ I can really tell a difference in your body after the bootcamp. Great work!! 🙂

  • MeaganS May 20, 2015, 1:24 pm

Kudos to you for getting a cleaning service! I wish I could get one but don’t want to give up my personal trainer 3x/week. Love the lip color! And I’m in the midst of potty training my 3 year old son- so any help would be appreciated!

  • Stacy E May 20, 2015, 1:54 pm

We have had a cleaning service for 3 years now. It is a lifesaver!

We don’t have children, but we both work full time. It is the best 160 dollars I spend all month (to have them come twice). My husband and I spend more quality time together and no time on our hands and knees scrubbing (not fun). All we have to worry about is laundry, dishes, and daily maintenance.

  • Amanda @ Slimplify Life May 20, 2015, 2:01 pm

That nail video just made my life. I need to try that!

    Have a great night!!

  • Keelie (Sweat Equals Success) May 20, 2015, 2:09 pm

Dude- I FEEL you on the lipstick. I was just having that conversation with myself the other day. I see women rocking insanely awesome lipstick on the subway and I’m like “YAS” and then I put it on and I’m like “NAH.”

I think I might sneak over to Sephora to get color matched this week. Great idea!

  • Jennifer M May 20, 2015, 2:16 pm

Quick question about your cleaning service… do you leave when they clean or are you at home? I want to hire someone but I think it would be weird either way. And your kids are way too cute!

    • Caitlin May 21, 2015, 6:32 am

I have them come here when I’m here. If I didn’t have dogs I would probably schedule it when I was gone, but I worry about the dogs bothering them or getting out.

  • Amy @ Happy Healthy RD May 20, 2015, 2:31 pm

My fridge looks just like yours! Stocked with La Croix. 🙂 My fave new flavor is Apricot but I want to try the Cherry Lime next.

  • Ashley May 20, 2015, 2:39 pm

Oh man, my cleaning lady is hands down the best money I spend!

  • Tanya May 20, 2015, 2:54 pm

Ok, first…love the lip color. I need to get color-matched because I love lipstick but am not sure if I wear it correctly. Also, just finished up the Whole 30 and I actually really enjoyed it and felt great. I’m going to try to keep it up. But I’m curious if you are doing it vegetarian. Since pregnant with Eleanor I have started eating meat and just don’t know how I would survive on Whole 30 without meat. However, I focused on good sources and actually really enjoyed eating meat again and even cooking it for the first time ever! Ok, and last…this is getting long…but I also am in love with Coconut La Croix! But just switched to lemon. Now that I’m done with the Whole 30 and can enjoy a cocktail again I’m picked up the lemon flavor to mix with Sweet Tea Vodka…haven’t done it yet but hoping for an amazing drink!

    • Caitlin May 21, 2015, 6:31 am

They have a vegetarian version where you can eat tofu. If you google vegetarian whole 30 you will see the shopping list!

  • Erin @ The Grass Skirt May 20, 2015, 3:00 pm

I just got back from Target because I needed to restock my fridge with LaCroix. We’ve been going through it like…water. 🙂 Love the lipstick on you!

  • Natalie @ The Ravenous Mommy May 20, 2015, 4:34 pm

Totally agree with cleaning service!! When we moved to a larger home (and I had my son who was 7 mos old then), it was a must for my sanity! I would have to spend most of his nap time cleaning… no thank you.

  • Rachel Starr May 20, 2015, 8:43 pm

Sooo, not a “health” related question per se, but um…have you tried that cherry lime La Croix mixed with vodka? I’m always looking for mixers that aren’t too sweet, but offer some flavor. Can anyone else weigh in on this? lol

And for the record, if I could afford to have our housekeepers come every week, I would! It’s worth every damn penny to have someone else clean your house when you’ve got littles!

    • Caitlin May 21, 2015, 6:30 am

I have not but I think the Husband did it the other night and liked it 🙂

    • Gretchen May 21, 2015, 8:55 am

Flavored vodka + plain sparkling water is great! Or sparkling water + vodka + fresh lime or lemon…or a greyhound/salty dog with sparkling water to dilute the grapefruit juice…mmm.

  • Jenn@Mark My Miles! May 21, 2015, 10:58 am

We have been doing the same since having our second child. It has been a lifesaver having a cleaning service come in once every 3 weeks.

  • Molly May 21, 2015, 11:37 am

Who makes your baby gate? My 7 month old is starting to move and we need to start thinking about baby proofing…this gate doesn’t look as hideous as others I’ve seen

  • Vanessa May 21, 2015, 3:46 pm

Hi Caitlin! I’m in Charlotte as well and looking for a cleaning service. Do you mind sharing who you use? Thanks!

  • Neha May 21, 2015, 10:18 pm

Love cleaning service! Working full time, having a super busy husband and a 10 month old, spending time cleaning the house over the weekend felt like I was betraying quality time with them. Now the house gets cleaned during the weekday and weekends are fun family time again!

So I wanted to ask you this from your previous posts too, when did you start subscribing to Kiwi Crate? Their website says starting for kids at 3 years of age. I have an 18 month old and would love this service but don’t know if it will be too advanced for her. I am so bad at coming up with good activities even with Pinterest and all and I feel like this kind of subscription would be worth it.

    Thanks for your fun posts!!

    • Caitlin May 22, 2015, 7:59 am

Too advanced for sure. Henry started at 2.5 years. I think she would enjoy some of it but I’d hold off another year.
