Back At It

So excited to be home!  So, so, so pumped to be back.

I was excited to sleep in my own bed, drink my own coffee, watch my own TV.  Henry was pumped to play with his own toys.  And the spatulas.  Home is just… nice.

I was REALLY excited to get back to my healthy routine.  In New Orleans, I totally fell off the ‘wagon.’  Too much alcohol, not enough veggies, crap baby sleep (and therefore crap adult sleep), absolutely zero exercise besides city walking.  Fun while it lasted, but honestly… eating right, sleeping well, and moving my body regularly feels so much better.  It’s worth spending the energy on healthy living.  What you get out of it is so much greater than what you put in.

On that note… I spent the morning doing a ton of food prep.  I figured it would be easier to get back on track if we had healthy foods right at our finger tips.  Plus, I’m going away on Friday for the race, and it’s nice for Kristien if he has meals ready to eat when he’s the solo parent.

What do you guys usually make when you do food prep?  I roasted some potatoes, boiled a ton of quinoa, steamed some kale, fried an onion, cut some fruit, and stir-fried tempeh.  It should last us a while!

Lunch included bits of everything.

I’m hoping this gets us back on track and feeling great in just a few meals.  And I swear, if I never see another French fry again, it will be too soon.  And by ‘never,’ I mean next week, but you know what I mean.  Winking smile

Home really is the best place…especially with little ones! Sounds like you’re set up for some good eats this week! Enjoy the rest of your day at home!

It’s always nice to return to routine and get your body back on track. I always really miss working out and eating my usual foods when on vacay, as fun as it is to break routine for a while!

Henry and the spatula!! He kills me. You can’t have the good without the bad! I love the moment when you actually start craving healthy stuff again, it means we’ve taught our bodies something and they’re listening!

Coming home after vacation is always nice. I think it also speaks volumes with how much you like your life when you’re happy to return to it!

Good luck getting back on track- looks like you have everything together that you need to be successful 🙂

I love going on vacation, BUT I LOVE coming home more! There really is no place like home! 🙂

Love the feeling of getting home and back on my routine. I often feel the same way you do — missed having my regular workouts and healthy foods. I like getting away for a little while, but I’m always glad to be home.

I’m going to have to try kitchen items as baby toys!

My go-to food prep dish is a nice big pot of veggie soup – collard greens/cabbage/kale, every veggie I can find, potatoes, tomatoes, beans, chicken or veggie stock. I usually make enough to last for a week so I can take it to work for lunch, and I also freeze about a week’s worth in smaller containers to pull out when I’m feeling in the mood.

“What you get out of it is so much greater than what you put in.” I love this! Such a simple concept that we often forget. I think this just convinced me not to skip my run tonight.

I know exactly how you feel! I love going away, but it throws off my fitness and eating schedule so bad that by the end of a vacation I just crave anything that’s healthy or natural.

When I do food prep, I do tofu, roasted vegetables, and vegetarian chili.

Love me some tempeh! I need to do some food prep in terms of hard boiled eggs. They’re such an easy grab and go snack, plus they’re super tasty!

It’s always nice to be home after vacations (for a few days anyway :-))

I always try to seeing coming home after holidays not as “uh, I fell off th wagon, bad girl, need to get back on track” but as “yay, holidays indulgent days, now I am so motivated to have a fresh start with my healthy habits”. It’s just a mind thing, I guess.

I always prepare the following on Sundays: hardboil eggs, make a batch of rice and/or microwave some sweet potatoes, cut up some veg and make a fruit crumble (perfect to spoon on oatmeal or to have as a dessert). Since I work massive hours, it makes the week so much easier!

When I do food prep I usually roast potatoes, marinade meats and put together casseroles. I pretty much do everything I possibly can do ahead of time without compromising flavor!

I love going on vacation, but I love coming home with memories and getting back to my normal routine.
