Finders, Keepers

I am slowly turning into my mother.  You know, the lady who drives by the trash, spots a bookcase, and feels the practically irresistible urge to throw that bookcase in the trunk because would be practically perfect with a coat of pant.

Yeah.  I am becoming my mom.

Spotted this weathered, dirty double jogging stroller in the trash heap.  The missing tire was in the cargo spot, and I really just think it needs a good scrubbing (the cover comes off completely) and could easily be resold on Craigslist for $50 or so, minimum.  Or I could keep it until BabyHTP #2 arrives…

Like I said. Slowly becoming my mom.

In other grown-up activities…. We spent the afternoon at Home Depot looking at paint swatches for the house we’re under contract for (I refuse to call it ‘our house’ yet).  This was a fun exercise – just hope it wasn’t a waste of time!  We’re going for gray walls (the Silver Drop swatch).  I love gray as a neutral and hate-hate-hate apartment rental beige/yellow.

Hubbers made me a lunch (we had lots of snacks while shopping, too).

Grilled tempeh, cucumbers, mayo, spinach – random combo but it was really delicious.

Off to a friend’s house to watch a movie.  Is the weekend really and truly over?  I don’t want it to be Moanday…

Hahahaha I’m only 24 and I realized a year or two ago that I am so much more like my mother than I ever thought.

  • Alex @ Raw Recovery March 11, 2012, 6:19 pm

Today is the last day of my last spring break ever. Crushing, unreal, and spent working on my thesis. Go figure.

We have “apt beige” right now too and we’re not allowed to change it. :l I can’t wait to be able to pick out my own colors!! Love that shade of grey you guys chose. It’s so soothing/ calming.

  • kelsey t March 11, 2012, 7:02 pm

Saw that stroller and thought for a second that there was a surprise baby #2 in your belly already! But then realized you probably would have known that a LONG time ago 🙂

  • Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed March 11, 2012, 7:02 pm

Haha definitely happens! I’m definitely a close version of my mother. The weekend flew by but it was a good one 😀 Really hope this house works out for you, you so deserve it! Love that purple color, I am such a sucker for purple hehe. We have been thinking about painting soon too, can’t wait to start looking at colors!

  • Debbie March 11, 2012, 7:05 pm

Love the colors but we never had much luck with Behr paint!

  • Steph March 11, 2012, 7:45 pm

Be careful of bedbugs on that thing! I can’t help but think of things like that having bedbugs whenever I pass them by on the street. Sorry, it’s just my paranoid self living in NYC that thinks like that.

    • Lindsay March 12, 2012, 12:21 am

Eek, yeah. I’m a fellow New Yorker, and the first thing I think of whenever I see something sitting outside is bedbugs.

      • CaitlinHTP March 12, 2012, 7:26 am

Hahah I will thoroughly inspect for bed bugs 🙂

  • Alyse March 11, 2012, 8:19 pm

You could always put the baby in one side and Maggie on the other to balance it out. 🙂

  • Sana March 11, 2012, 8:23 pm

    I am totally my mom.

  • Kath March 11, 2012, 8:25 pm

    LOVE gray!!

  • kathleen @ the daily crumb March 11, 2012, 9:09 pm

oh i am becoming my mother in sooo many ways, it is starting to scare me! i can’t believe it’s time for monday morning already…

I’m all for getting things second hand but really, be very careful with items for an infant or a young child. Even with scrubbing you don’t know what may be on such an item and it would be horrible to expose your child or someone elses child to something that could make them ill.

  • Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife March 11, 2012, 10:03 pm

YAHHH under contract!! Praying for ya–hope all goes well 🙂

I love grey as a base/neutral too. Good choice!

  • Shelley March 11, 2012, 10:34 pm

Awesome find! A double jogger is SO much easier to push than regular double strollers, especially when you have an older child who is heavier. You’ll be set when you have another baby!

  • Jessica @ The Process of Healing March 11, 2012, 11:56 pm

    OMG that sandwich sounds amazing!!!

  • Katie @ Talk Less, Say More March 12, 2012, 12:07 am

I haven’t bought tempeh in awhile and it makes one of my FAVORITE sandwiches with spinach + raspberry or strawberry jam. YUM!

  • Jen March 12, 2012, 1:43 am

Your mother sounds a lot like my husband…heehee. 🙂

  • Erica March 12, 2012, 7:13 am

I love grey as a neutral wall color, we actually just painted our nursery grey. I just wanted to give you a heads up on it though – it’s a tricky color to get right! Make sure you get test pots of paint – they cost $3 but will save you some insanity! We painted our nursery grey (and I was adamant that it had to be neutral – no purple, blue or green undertones). After it was done and dried, I went in there and hated it. I started crying, but thinking it was just my preggo hormones I thought I could live with it. My husband came in to see what the problem was, and he was like, “Wow, it looks lilac, not grey at all.” so we headed back to Home Depot, and bought 3 tester pots of different greys. We finally found one that we LOVE, but it was a long process! Good luck!

    • CaitlinHTP March 12, 2012, 7:26 am

Which color did you end up using? Do you know?

      • Erica March 12, 2012, 5:33 pm

Yes I have to find the pot (my husband put it on the top shelf in the shed, so I can’t reach it!) and I will let you know! Here’s a link to the room so you can see the color, though.

Ok, it was Behr’s Classic Silver (UL260-18)! We tried test pots of Dolphin Fin and Gentle Rain, too. Dolphin Fin was really nice, if you decide to go with that (I feel like a weirdo now because I can see the name on the paint swatch). We just wanted something slightly darker. The Classic Silver wasn’t with the normal paint swatches, it was in a different area and there was only one color on the swatch. We got it made with Behr’s low odor/zero VOC paint in satin finish (that way I could paint too, it really didn’t have any odor!).

          • Caitlin March 12, 2012, 9:23 pm

We like Silver Drop! I wonder if its like Classic Silver? Thanks so much!

Some of my favorite pieces of furniture in our house are those that we found for free (or basically for free!) and repurposed at home. So worth it!

  • Hayley @ Oat Couture March 12, 2012, 7:37 am

Oh god I hear ya! I am realising more and more each year that I am just like my mum! It kills me! Haha!

  • Brittany (Healthy Slice of Life) March 12, 2012, 8:17 am

Gosh, I’m out of the loop, but I’d love more details on the house!
PS- I love gray as a neutral. I sometimes wish I could pay someone to come paint all the rooms in our house, but that’s wayyyy down on the ‘to-fix-up’ list 🙂

  • alli March 12, 2012, 11:39 am

how funny, i have that exact same stroller. i watch a little boy 3x/week who is the same age as my son. we love going for walks/run. i’d say keep it. otherwise you’ll have to fork out a lot more $ for a double when #2 comes!

also, i painted and decorated my sons nursery grey/yellow because i love that color combo, plus i wanted something that could work for a boy/girl in case we have a girl in the future.

    come back weekend. come backkkkkk.
    great colors!

  • Amber K March 12, 2012, 3:01 pm

I am one of those paranoid people when it comes to used stuff. Buying stuff at thrift shops often gives me the heebie jeebies. It is so annoying because I’d love to save money and reuse old products, but I get itchy just thinking about it.

  • Alaina March 12, 2012, 3:49 pm

I am SO my mom. Everyone says we have the same mannerisms and we even sound the same. My dad called the house once and I was visiting and picked up. It took him a good 5 minutes to realize that it wasn’t my mom that he was talking to. Haha.

Love gray! We painted our guest bathroom a pretty gray that reads more blue-gray now that it’s on the walls. In retrospect, I wish I would have taken the time to test paint an inconspicuous spot. Our gust bath has no natural light, so I think that really impacts how it looks. Luckily, I love the gray blue it turned into!
