California Dreamin’

in All Posts

All the leaves are brown, and the sky is grey

I went for a walk on a winter’s day

I’d be safe and warm, if I was in L.A.

Woke up this morning with that classic Mamas and Papas jam stuck in my head – why does that happen? It’s not like I recently heard it anywhere.  But at least the song was pretty appropriate, given the fact that all the leaves are dropping, and it’s oh-so-chilly outside

All the better to run through!

(Side note: Lula is STILL looking for a home, if you’re in the Philly area and interested in saving this week’s Shelter Pet.)

Breakfast:

My beloved Panda Puffs cereal, a sliced pear, pumpkin seeds, and coconut milk.  Oh yeah.  Get in my belly!

Something to Listen To

…A new Peter Hollens song!  Amazing.  I wish I was half as talented as he and his friends are (I sing like seagulls being slowly murdered):

Why isn’t he hellua famous yet?!

Something to Do

Do your push-ups!  Are you sticking with the November push-ups challenge?

Oh, Maggie. That picture is just classic.

  • Claire @ Live and Love to Eat November 11, 2011, 9:45 am

I have a Jack Russel and I love watching her run like that – she gets so low to the ground but you can tell she is so happy and feels so free. Beautiful morning for a walk, although it is chilly!

  • katie @ KatieDid November 11, 2011, 9:46 am

Woo increasing those pushups! I love seeing progress so quickly in something like pushups- simple but so effective. I’m listening to that song as I type this- awesome, he;s so talented.

  • Khushboo November 11, 2011, 9:53 am

Coconut milk with cereal- I’m kinda jealous!

  • Amanda November 11, 2011, 9:56 am

What a great picture of Maggie! One of my favorite things is watching my dog run at the park. We live in the city and don’t have a yard, so it’s awesome to watch her face when she knows she’s not on the leash and can just sprint. 🙂

I really, really hope someone steps forward to adopt Lula. That’s breaking my heart.

  • Amara@GirlinaWhirl November 11, 2011, 10:12 am

Hey I just saw you yesterday post. Although I don’t drink coffee (religious thing), even stuff like chocolate I’d watch –not while I was pregnant, but NURSING. Oh my gosh, my babies wouldn’t SLEEP after it got into the milk, and I was so sleep deprived anyway…. something to consider.

  • Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed November 11, 2011, 10:17 am

Now I have Tupac’s California Love stuck in my head lol! Love the pooch pic, it’s definitely fun watching them sprint. I want to adopt Lula… I keep trying to convince my bf, but we just can’t right now, one doggie is enough for my boyfriend’s tiny house and our schedules 🙁

  • Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat November 11, 2011, 10:17 am

Nice job on the push-ups! I didn’t do a ton of consecutive ones yesterday, but I think if I add up all the ones I did in my strength workout, it would have been around 50. Have a great day Caitlin!

  • Carolina John November 11, 2011, 10:26 am

It has to feel nice just to be home again for a little bit! Have a great weekend!

  • LMN November 11, 2011, 10:44 am

i’m not sure why, but the pic of the short little pup running made me laugh (out loud, at that)! too cute. i have a boston who bounces every once in a while while running. 🙂

  • Tiffany November 11, 2011, 10:51 am

Your pictures look so beautiful! I’ve been meaning to give coconut milk a try (I’m currently hooked on unsweetened almond milk). How do you like it? Is it tropical tasting? 🙂

    • CaitlinHTP November 11, 2011, 9:58 pm

It is a little tropical tasting. It’s good!

  • Morgan @ Life After Bagels November 11, 2011, 10:51 am

oh wow I’m impressed with how quickly you moved up to 20 pushups!!!

I did the full 6 week challenge earlier this year and I ended up doing 35 regular style in a row … I was super impressed with myself … I’d like to repeat it again and get to 50

  • Lauren @hugskissesndishes November 11, 2011, 11:10 am

I just ran out of panda puff cereal! What will I do for my snack time??! You’re breakfast looks amazing, I’m jealous 🙂

  • Erica November 11, 2011, 11:27 am

Aww, i love that picture of Maggie running! I also love the Mamas and Papas! I often wake up with random songs stuck in my head!

  • Sonia (the Mexigarian) November 11, 2011, 11:51 am

That picture of Maggie is so cute!! I love seeing dachshunds run, lol. Kind of like basset hounds.

And I have not done a single pushup.

  • Justine November 11, 2011, 12:13 pm

Question fer you-are you going to do week-by-week pregnancy posts like Emily and Jen? Would love to see it!

    • CaitlinHTP November 11, 2011, 9:58 pm

I will but I’m kind of wanting until I get further along. Thanks for your support 🙂 It’s very sweet.

  • Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife November 11, 2011, 12:28 pm

CUte running picture of your dog!!

I am lovin’ on the pushups too! WHeeeee 🙂

  • Angela @ MyPinkyToes November 11, 2011, 12:30 pm

I seriously love that song, and I love a cappella singing! Please tell me you watch The Sing Off? It’s the most awesome a cappella singing ever (along with Peter Hollens!)
I, too, cannot sing worth anything. It is something I really, really, really wish I could do well, but that I know I definitely canNOT. I think you explained my singing skills perfectly when you described birds being slowly murdered. What a sound.

    • CaitlinHTP November 11, 2011, 9:57 pm

I haven’t watched this season 🙁 I Need to get on it!

  • chelsey @ clean eating chelsey November 11, 2011, 12:34 pm

I did 20 pushups (real ones) before I went to bed last night. I felt pretty BA.

  • Katie @ Peace Love and Oats November 11, 2011, 12:38 pm

I just got started on my 100 push ups challenge this week and so far so good!

  • Moni'sMeals November 11, 2011, 12:55 pm

    Awww Lulu(right?), run run!

alright BA! good work on the push-ups!

  • Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers November 11, 2011, 12:57 pm

You’re just moving right along with those pushups!

  • Lauren @ Sassy Molassy November 11, 2011, 1:03 pm

Hey Caitlin, Yes, Peter is so friggin’ talented. He went to the Univ. of Oregon where I went (and now work). Your push up challenge has reminded me to do more push ups so while I’m not trying to get to 100, I am trying to do more than I normally would and prioritizing them EVERY day. Thanks for the inspiration!

  • steph November 11, 2011, 1:15 pm

Oh my gosh! Maggie looks absolutely freaking adorable!!

  • Pam Allen November 11, 2011, 1:19 pm

I’m doing this at work! Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday a bunch of us meet and do our pushups. We’re definitely not following the program since we’ve been doing it for about 3 months now and are in the 3rd or 4th week, but each person just sets the pace they’re comfortable with. We are all doing so well! At the beginning I could only do 10 pushups, and now I’m in the fourth week, first day, second column. Pretty proud of myself!

    • CaitlinHTP November 11, 2011, 9:57 pm

Awesome 🙂 I love the idea of a group doing it together!

  • Amber K November 11, 2011, 1:20 pm

Wow, way to go on the push-ups!

I’m loving the Peter Hollens videos, I’ve been watching (and rewatching) all of the Sing Off clips on YouTube after watching the show. I wish I could sound that good!

  • Tee @ She Writes, Bites, and Window Shops November 11, 2011, 1:47 pm

Great mid-air pic of the pup haha.

  • Ellie@fitforthesoul November 11, 2011, 2:15 pm

awww I’m sure you don’t sound like seagulls being slowly murdered! Haha, though the description did make me laugh 😛 The falling leaves look so nice there. The more, the merrier, so you can CRUNCH them as you run 🙂 (I love crunching leaves)

    • CaitlinHTP November 11, 2011, 9:56 pm

No I really do sound like seagulls being murdered. Seriously. It’s bad.

  • Jen November 11, 2011, 3:14 pm

    20!? Holler! I can do like 5? 😉

  • Kiah November 11, 2011, 7:14 pm

I made it about halfway through this challenge, but fell off the bandwagon when the reps got into the 50s. If you can stick with it, that’s pretty awesome!

  • cookie November 12, 2011, 5:12 pm

I love that dog picture! Looks like so much fun.

  • Peter Hollens November 12, 2011, 11:43 pm

Thanks so much for posting the video 🙂 Means the world to me!! Glad a few of your readers enjoyed it!

  • Mahealani @ Beauty, Brains, and Balance November 14, 2011, 12:16 pm

Hate to say it, but it’s not that warm here in LA!! 😛
