Gold Star for Me

in All Posts

I finally, FINALLY made it back to yoga!  I have been out of yoga commission for three straight weeks.  I was totally doing that “I’ll go tomorrow… no, tomorrow-tomorrow… well, maybe on Monday… or Wednesday” thing.

But I was actually looking forward to hot vinyasa class today because it allowed me to relax.  I’ve lost a lot of my balance and some of the low lunges were kill-ah.  I was still flexible and loose!  I know I need to go to yoga more because it’s such a great complement to long distance running.

Y2Yoga, I shall be back!

Pre-yoga snack of Chobani Greek yogurt, loads of blueberries, raw oatmeal, and salty peanuts.

I continued the summer-foods theme with a big salad.  In the mix, spinach, romaine, carrots, blueberries, cashews, and balsamic dressing.

And sourdough bread, one with black bean hummus and one with buttah.

There is a business meeting going down in my living room right… Web Symphonies (aka Nicole’s boyfriend Isaac) is redesigning the clinic’s website (and thank goodness, because it needs it).

I better go take meeting minutes. 🙂

Good night!

Yoga always feels so great when I do it at home, I just haven’t had the nerve to take a class at a studio. Any tips for a first timer?

    • Heather February 2, 2011, 10:02 pm

Try the yogadownload.com website – there are 20 min free videos you can download (go to the classes section), as well as free pose guides you can download as well! If you can master the free 20 min class, you can buy the longer classes (or find in person classes). I just downloaded my first Dave Farmar 60 min class and loved it!

      • Heather February 2, 2011, 10:06 pm

And I just realized you meant first timer, as in class first timer, not yoga first timer -sorry about that! As far as classes go, just dive right in! The instructor will help you if you aren’t doing a pose right (which is a major plus over doing at home), and honestly no one else in the class is looking at you – they’re too busy looking at themselves in the mirror! 😉

        • Alex @ Healing Beauty February 3, 2011, 9:39 am

Thanks so much Heather! I really appreciate your replies! Have a great day!

        • Caitlin February 3, 2011, 10:18 am

          I agree with Heather 🙂

  • Katy (The Singing Runner) February 2, 2011, 9:22 pm

Haha!!! I love the napkin! I say this every single time I read about someone going to yoga, I need to try it! Haha! 😀

  • the veg meg February 2, 2011, 9:23 pm

    haha that napkin is amazing!!!

  • Holly @ Couch Potato Athlete February 2, 2011, 9:26 pm

    That wiener napkin is hilarious!!!

I am so craving summery type foods — tons of fresh fruit and veg — I am ready for winter to be over!

  • Maddie (Healthy Maddie) February 2, 2011, 9:31 pm

Funny napkin! Yoga is the best 🙂

  • Joelle (The Pancake Girl) February 2, 2011, 9:36 pm

    Bahah I love that napkin.

I need to get back to doing yoga more frequently too- I can never fit it in my work schedule during the week sadly.. I did try a boot camp tonight though- it was awesome!

  • Kristina February 2, 2011, 9:38 pm

Way to go getting back into yoga-now can you get me to too?! I just started running again after swearing it off til after the wedding (for some reason people don’t want me to take the chance of hobbling down the isle)-after a 6 month break from running i’m itching back but in desp need of yoga! Hopefully your daily posts will remind me to get up and go!

  • Camille February 2, 2011, 9:41 pm

Ahh, it’s so tough to get back in to a workout after a break! Good for you for making it!

  • Courtney @ The Granola Chronicles February 2, 2011, 9:42 pm

I’ve been doing yoga through a great iPad app – but I just purchased an unlimited monthly pass through Groupon and am really excited to use it!

    • Kiran February 2, 2011, 9:45 pm

Hey, I’m the same. Been doing yoga via iPad app and just purchased yoga pass via Groupon 😉

  • Kristy @ KristyRuns February 2, 2011, 9:47 pm

Yay for yoga! 🙂 Ummm…nice napkin! There he goes again…

  • Ali @ Ali on the Run February 2, 2011, 10:10 pm

I too find that yoga really complements a heavy running routine. I’ve been trying to go just once a week…so far I haven’t done such a good job at it! Glad I’m not the only one who has a hard time making it there!

  • Beatrix @ Beaglebea February 2, 2011, 10:18 pm

Good job on getting back to the routine..I got back into running todya after like 3 weeks. so easy to just say tomorrow I’ll do it… next thing you know 2 weeks go by.

  • JillToday February 2, 2011, 10:34 pm

I heart hot yoga. With bad knees it’s all I do. Just keep remembering how you feel afterwards and you will want to go daily!

  • Liz @ Tip Top Shape February 2, 2011, 10:37 pm

this is random-but I love that napkin!!! haha

  • Ashley February 2, 2011, 10:43 pm

I love the napkin. It suits you. 🙂

  • Maria @ Oh Healthy Day February 2, 2011, 11:10 pm

The hardest part about starting up a class/workout/run routine again is just attending the first class. Now that you’re over that hump, it will hopefully be easier here on out 🙂

  • mary February 2, 2011, 11:13 pm

did you know there is a worldwide facebook event for OB? It’s kind of similar to the “one day without shoes” for TOMS I just found it and here the link. Its’ attendance is pretty large already

  • Stephanie@Thorns Have Roses February 3, 2011, 12:31 am

Love cashews on salad. 🙂 That napkin is funny. 🙂

  • Allison @ Happy Tales February 3, 2011, 1:04 am

Good for you for bringing yoga back into your life! I have set a goal for myself tomorrow (which is actually today, i suck at going to bed early now, gah!) and that goal is do do one of those 20min at-home yogadownloads!!! I WILL do it! I will!

  • Lauren @ Hungry Dancer February 3, 2011, 3:12 am

    Love that yogurt bowl!! YUM!!

  • Lisa Fine - lisasfoods February 3, 2011, 3:48 am

Glad to hear you’re back on a yoga kick. I go through phases too, and really want to get back into it again. I’m going to try some of Dave Farmar’s podcasts, and get back into taking a class every month or so. It makes me sad when I lose my flexibility after working so hard to improve it.

  • Gill (snaxandthecity) February 3, 2011, 4:39 am

nice! it always feels good to come back to yoga, doesnt it?

  • Lauren February 3, 2011, 6:46 am

Yoga always is missed whenever I take a break from it. I often overlook how much I really do miss it though.

  • Erika @ FoodFitnessFun February 3, 2011, 7:02 am

Glad you’re liking yoga so much. I’ve never gone to a class but I’ve done it by myself in my house. I always feel so energized after it! 😀

  • Eliz@The Sweet Life February 3, 2011, 7:35 am

How is balancing the family & business going? I imagine it will involve a continual search for balance.

    • Caitlin February 3, 2011, 10:20 am

Its going… I’m trying to draw clearer lines.

  • Jen @ keepitsimplefoods February 3, 2011, 8:02 am

Good for you! I need to get back to yoga, stat!

  • Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table February 3, 2011, 8:42 am

LOL @ that napkin! awesome. whoever though of that line (the napkins, cards… coozies) is a genius.

  • Kacy February 3, 2011, 8:52 am

I always feel the same way after not going to yoga for awhile. Right now I can’t afford to go to a studio and I miss it so much!

  • Widad February 3, 2011, 9:04 am

your husband looks ecstatic in the last shot

    • Caitlin February 3, 2011, 10:23 am

I think he’s over 15 hour workdays too.

  • Danielle February 3, 2011, 9:09 am

I love finding reasons to be proud of myself. Seriously. It’s what keeps me going back to yoga time and time again. Sometimes it’s for landing a pose and others just for going in the first place 🙂 glad you had a great class!

  • Samantha @ Health, Happiness & Skinny Jeans February 3, 2011, 9:15 am

I completely agree that yoga is a great compliment to running. I love that I feel stronger as a result of taking it but in different ways.

  • Kathie @ Frugal Fit and Fabulous February 3, 2011, 9:17 am

horrah for going back to yoga! I have been telling myself that very same thing for the last three weeks also. I need to get back into yoga also -for the same reason.

  • Melissa @ Be Not Simply Good February 3, 2011, 10:00 am

That salad looks good. I love cashews in a salad.

  • Lindsey T. February 3, 2011, 10:14 am

Is girls on the run local or is it nationwide? How did you go about becoming a coach?

  • Ashley February 3, 2011, 11:34 am

Yay for yoga! Way to go!

  • Sarah February 3, 2011, 12:55 pm

I have been out of the yoga groove for a little while now, too. Good for you getting back into it! I need to get to a class myself.

  • Lisa February 3, 2011, 3:32 pm

I know I’m living in a really informal culture (suits and ties are rarely worn in the office place) but I feel so bad for your husband – even though it’s a business meeting, he’s in his living room, with friends and family! Doesn’t he even want to loosen his tie? This stuck out for me in one of your previous blogs as well when you were talking about having business meetings at home. I’m hoping it’s just one of those “moments in time” and that four seconds later he jumped up to change into a sweatshirt.

    • Caitlin February 3, 2011, 3:36 pm

Funnily enough my husband wears a tie and shirt almost everyday until he changes to go to bed. His father does the same thing. I think it’s a doctor/British thing.

  • Alyssa February 3, 2011, 10:51 pm

Caitlin, I read your blog on my google reader, and want to thank you so much for this post because I too had fallen into a no-yoga rut and this helped me get out of it! 🙂

    • Caitlin February 3, 2011, 11:01 pm

Lets pledge together to go twice a wewk!

      • Alyssa February 3, 2011, 11:12 pm
