My Name is Caitlin…

And I’m a vacation addict.  :(  Is there a 12-step program for people like me? Or is the only cure to continue to fantasize about my next tropical vacation?

IMG_8610

So SAD my warm and sunny Arizona vacation is over.  I nearly cried in the airport – although that could’ve just been exhaustion from not getting home until 1 AM.  But really, I am such a good vacationer and I hate winter.  Is it summer yet?

Trying to get myself back on East Coast time but so far, I’m failing miserably.  Breakfast was eaten by 10 AM.

IMG_8776

But it was a good one!

Puffin cereal (on sale!), banana, and vanilla Greek yogurt.

On a brighter note, my foot feels 100% better (I injured it last Thursday on a long run) and I’m going to attempt to run today.  I need to get back on schedule with Half Marathon training!

See you for lunch!

I feel the same when I get back from vacation too, Caitlin! Go give yourself a nice run and a good book writing day to take your mind off what you miss…..easier said than done 😉

  • Ashley P (The Vegetable Life) January 21, 2011, 11:00 am

  • Julie (A Case of the Runs) January 21, 2011, 11:01 am

Coming back to work from vacation is like Monday x1000.

  • Natalia - a side of simple January 21, 2011, 11:04 am

Puffin cereal on SALE? That sounds like a vacation in itself! 🙂 I’m ready for some sun and warm weather myself.

  • Lizz (leadingthegoodlife) January 21, 2011, 11:08 am

I’ve decided that my dream job is to get paid to vacation. Know of any openings??

  • lauren January 21, 2011, 11:13 am

Is it an addiction to ALWAYS be dreaming of your next vacation, making plans, etc? That’s how my life flows 🙂

Perhaps we can start Vacation-addicts Anonymous

  • Ali @ Ali Runs January 21, 2011, 11:15 am

I spend so much time thinking about my next vacation. Although, I have no vacations in sight (grad school will do that to you). I feel your pain! ps Happy Friday! 😀

  • Joyce @ Flowing to Fifty January 21, 2011, 11:23 am

    Caitlin –

I feel your pain! I, too, hate winter and I’m a Canadian!! Bundle up – that’s the key. 🙂

  • Ann @ Day by Day January 21, 2011, 11:34 am

Vacations are the best! They’re like massages- every time I have one (which is pretty rare), it just makes me want more and more. My Dad thinks I’ve gotten my fill of vacations for a while after a semester and a summer studying in Europe! Unfortunately for me it just means I’ve gotten the traveling bug…

  • monicanelsonfitness January 21, 2011, 11:34 am

so what you do is, plan your next vactation while you are on vactation! I just started that and it is working, realistic, and makes everything so much easier when you know you have a break coming your way. 🙂 I never thought is was possible to have vacations but you must make them a priority and take charege or they never ever happen.

Glad your foot feels better. 😉 have a greak weekend.

  • Kelly January 21, 2011, 11:35 am

I think we are all vacation addicts, haha. Nothing wrong with that.

  • Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday January 21, 2011, 11:36 am

Glad to see your foot is feeling better!

I’m a vaca addict myself. But I don’t restrict my vacations to warm sunny places. I’m heading to Norway in a few weeks for a nice winter getaway!

  • Kelly January 21, 2011, 11:36 am

Aww. I know how you feel. I always get a big huge wash of sadness when vacation time is up. I love traveling and seeing new places (or even re-visiting favorites) and it’s like huge culture shock to return to normal life again. It may take a day or two, but it usually subsides. It should be spring soon!

  • Stacy @ Every Little Thing January 21, 2011, 11:36 am

Ugh leaving the sun is the worst. I miss the feel of it on my shoulders!

  • Gavi @ GaviGetsGoing! January 21, 2011, 11:39 am

Welcome back! I’m so glad your foot is feeling better. Good luck getting back into the swing of things and training for the half marathon–you’re going to rock it! I was just in Phoenix last month and I miss the warmth already…

  • Natalie @ Will Jog For Food January 21, 2011, 11:39 am

So am I! As soon as I got back from our honeymoon in November I was planning another trip. I feel like I need something to look forward to 🙂 Ireland here we come!

  • Kristina @ life as kristina January 21, 2011, 11:40 am

I’m there with ya sista! My fiances company used to send us to crazy places every 3 months-I became a travel brat-and now….we still go away but obvi not that frequent-let me know if there’s a support group, haha!

  • Amanda @ JustAmandaJ January 21, 2011, 11:41 am

I love vacations but I’m so thrown when I get back trying to get into a normal routine again. Its almost more stressful when its over it seems :/

    Good Luck on your run!

  • Megan January 21, 2011, 11:42 am

I too love love love vacations. My dream job would be to be a hotel / resort reviewer so I could get paid to travel to all the most fabulous places and stay at gorgeous hotels. Ahhh yes.

  • Sarena (The Non Dairy Queen) January 21, 2011, 11:43 am

Welcome home Caitlin! I hope you have a great day and enjoy your run!

  • Paige @ Moxie & Marmalade January 21, 2011, 12:10 pm

hahahah I love this: “but I’m such a good vacationer…”

Hang in there! You’ll get back in the swing of things soon

  • Kelly January 21, 2011, 12:17 pm

I am ALSO a vacation addict. My husband calls me Trips [insert maiden last name here] haha. Yesterday I took out more than one Italy book from the library- can I afford a trip to Italy… NO, but I can afford the free books from the library so I can dream about it.

  • Amber K January 21, 2011, 12:18 pm

Glad your foot is feeling better!

  • Leanne (For Health's Sake) January 21, 2011, 12:19 pm

    I really could use a vacation 🙁

Winters are too long, I need a vacay to break it up! My best friend is in the bahamas on her honeymoon right now, im so jealous!

  • Gabby (Quest for Delicious) January 21, 2011, 12:31 pm

I love puffins! They’re almost never on sale though and can never bring myself to pay $5+ for a box hah.

It’s been warm here lately so I can’t really complain about my “winter.” I love vacations and sunny skies too. (:

  • Maren January 21, 2011, 12:32 pm

Good luck! Hope it doesn’t bother you! p.s. It’s so cold here and I need a vacation SO BAD. So I totally hear you! 🙂

  • Camels & Chocolate January 21, 2011, 12:32 pm

Considering I turned my addiction to vacation into a profession (travel writing), I’d say you’re not alone! When you accomplish those 12 steps, let me know…

  • Caitlyn (A Spoonful of Life) January 21, 2011, 12:41 pm

I’m glad your foot is feeling better. I hope your run goes well!

  • Celia January 21, 2011, 12:41 pm

Boo that your vacation is over, but at least your foot is better!!! 🙂

  • Gill (snaxandthecity) January 21, 2011, 12:42 pm

I always feel like that after holidays too! It’s horrible, but then I also like feeling like I am getting home and can ‘plan’ things again. Hope your runs goes well!

  • Alex @ Healing Beauty January 21, 2011, 12:45 pm

Hi I’m Alex and I’m a vacation addict as well. I believe the only cure is to take another tropical vacation and surround yourself with anything that smells like a mango, papaya, or other tropical fruit 🙂

  • Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman January 21, 2011, 12:51 pm

I believe booking your next vacation as soon as possible after the last results in the least amount of post-vacation moping. 🙂

  • Katherine: Unemployed January 21, 2011, 12:54 pm

and everyone repeats… “hello caitlin”… no worries. vacation is necessary and healthy

  • chelsey @ clean eating chelsey January 21, 2011, 12:56 pm

Post Vacation Blues are horrible. I’m sorry you’re sad. 🙁

  • Mary @ Bites and Bliss January 21, 2011, 12:57 pm

There’s absolutely no shame in being a vacation addict! That’s the best kind. 😉

  • Kristy @ KristyRuns January 21, 2011, 12:57 pm

Puffins are the BEST! My brother-in-law has a subscription for Puffins, so he receives 4 boxes every month automatically! 🙂

  • Jess January 21, 2011, 12:57 pm

I am a SERIOUS vacation addict. Once we got back from Italy last January, I immediately started planning our fall trip to London and Paris. I was able to convince my hubby that we had to go to Mexico for Christmas. No here we are with no vacation plans in the works and I hate it! Hopefully we can fit one more in before I’m not allowed to fly for a while.

  • Hope January 21, 2011, 1:01 pm

I would love to go on vacation right now some place warm with no snow! That would be paradise! 🙂

Love puffins!! They are my favorite!!

  • Beth January 21, 2011, 1:04 pm

I’m a vacation addict too. Correction, I live in a family of vacation addicts. Between us we own two Disney timeshares and a beach house!

  • Katy (The Singing Runner) January 21, 2011, 1:18 pm

That’s what I hate about vacations. They are never long enough. 🙁

Glad your foot is feeing better! 😀

  • Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat January 21, 2011, 1:20 pm

If you find a vacation-addicts rehab program, I might need to sign up too! I’d do anything for some sunny weather right now!

  • Gracie (complicated day) January 21, 2011, 1:25 pm

I guess that means it was a good vacation, right?

  • Jaclyn January 21, 2011, 1:52 pm

Aw, I feel you on vacation addiction, me too!
Good luck getting back on schedule, hey, at least it’s Friday?!

And, glad to hear about your foot!!

  • Baking 'n' Books January 21, 2011, 2:01 pm

I cry every day to go on vacation…;) Perfectly normal?

Puffins are insanely addicting and I eat them right out of the box.

  • Amalfi Girl (EatRunHaveFun.blogspot) January 21, 2011, 2:11 pm

PB Puffins are prepared with crack. Or at least I suspect that they are, since they’re addictive…

    • Ellie@fitforthesoul January 21, 2011, 2:18 pm

are you serious they’re that good?! 0_o haha because I’ve been wondering what they taste like and alllwaayyys give it the inquisitive/stinky eye 😛

      • Caitlin January 21, 2011, 3:01 pm

        YES

  • Ellie@fitforthesoul January 21, 2011, 2:16 pm

Aww I’m sure it’ll be like ‘culture shock’ and soon it’ll be over! ^_~v Perhaps, just keeping the mind at ease and taking advantage of every breath that we take could help? Carpe Diem? <3 so glad your foot is good now! yayyyy

  • sarah k. @ the pajama chef January 21, 2011, 2:39 pm

i’m a vacation addict too. it’s a sad, sad reality to come back to real life 🙁 good luck recovering!

  • Rae @ Forays in the Kitchen January 21, 2011, 2:40 pm

I completely agree with you – I heart vacations! Sometimes I wish life were one big vacation. But then again, it’s very nice to come back to routine in food, sleep, and knowing everything you need is at your fingertips at home. (It’s just the “work thing” that makes it tough to come back!)

  • Runeatrepeat January 21, 2011, 2:41 pm

I’m a vacation addict too. I don’t have a job, but keep planning on a vacation to the Cayman islands. I have time, just no money!

  • Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) January 21, 2011, 2:48 pm

So glad you had an awesome trip…so awesome that you just want more 🙂
Before I had a child, I loved nothing more than vacation-hopping. That’s end one vacay, have another one lined up, and already researching the next one. Sometimes big ones, sometimes 2-niters at a bed and breakfast. But god, yes, I know the feeling!

    🙂

  • Ashley January 21, 2011, 2:50 pm

Well if there is a 12 step plan I’m sure the first is admitting it, and you’ve already got that covered 😀 Good luck on your run!

  • Lisa January 21, 2011, 3:01 pm

I need an intervention too. I am a total vacation addict. Even if it’s just going away for the weekend I LOVE it!

  • lisa January 21, 2011, 3:36 pm

I am a teacher and just had my third snow day in 10 days! I have spent all three of these snow days scouring every vacation website for a tropical place to visit in February….gah..get me someplace warm stat!

  • Kara January 21, 2011, 3:43 pm

I’m the opposite…I love getting home! I enjoy vacations, but I really miss being home. I’ve learned to not vacation for more than a week, or else I just get antsy to leave!

  • Jenn January 21, 2011, 4:33 pm

I love vacations too! I’m so over winter…as soon as the holidays are done, I’m ready for spring. 🙂

  • JenRD January 21, 2011, 4:48 pm

I totally share the addiction! Once I am done with one vacation, I want to start planning another. One of my favorite things to do is to flip through travel brochures. I find it relaxing to fantasize about future trips–even though it is only just a fantasy! 🙂

  • Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) January 21, 2011, 5:39 pm

Haha, I am totally an addict too! I get home from a vacation, and instantly start shopping for the next!

  • Katie January 21, 2011, 7:23 pm

Ready for summer too. 3 months and 10 days til warmth in Charlotte. 🙁

  • Allison @ Happy Tales January 21, 2011, 7:34 pm

Aw, I always find it hard to come back from a really short vacation. Usually with the longer ones, I’m ready to get back into my groove of things. But short ones? I’m always wishing for more time!

  • maria @ Chasing the Now January 21, 2011, 8:04 pm

Good luck with running. I’d ease back into it. It might feel better, but it could still have some underlying stuff going on.

  • Kiran January 21, 2011, 9:06 pm

Take care of the foot and feel better soon 🙂

  • Lacey @ Lake Life January 21, 2011, 9:25 pm

The first few days after vacay are the worst. Just start planning the next one, lol!
