Home Office

Late to bed, late to rise.

Just really getting things started to today.  I stayed up late writing, and then I got sucked into a vortex of Facebook stalking (why why why am I wasting time checking out profiles of people I knew four years ago and will probably never see again?).   I like the new Facebook design!  Normally, I hate it when they made changes but the new look is cool.

I’m at my ‘desk’ (AKA kitchen bar) and getting the day started, finally.

Hollar if you also work from home in your pajamas!

Breakfast was a repeat:

IMG_6593

In the mix:

  • Greek yogurt
  • Pumpkin
  • Craisins
  • Pecans
  • Raw oats

Gotta put on real-people clothes and pretend like I belong in the real world because I have a meeting with Molly Barker from GOTR.

(Why working from home is both awesome and horrible… as someone who has worked from home in one way or another for 3.5 years, I am assure you that it’s all true.)

Hilarious! I have a PT online job and I feel like the last screen after a few hours into my shift. However, working in my PJs is totally awesome. Thank you for the laugh.

  • Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin December 8, 2010, 9:38 am

Hahaha I love that cartoon! I somehow doubt you’re starting to resemble the third picture though… 😉

  • Morgan @ Life After Bagels December 8, 2010, 9:42 am

BAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA omg I’m dying at that cartoon . . .

and I totally was late to rise today as well

  • Charlie December 8, 2010, 9:43 am

    LOL love the cartoon :D!
I thought the same thing about the new facebook design. I usually hate when they change it (and when I have to discover how the new design works) but now it is a real improvement ;).

  • bakingnbooks December 8, 2010, 9:45 am

    You are inspiring me.

    That is all.

  • Nicole - yuppie yogini December 8, 2010, 9:46 am

If you start looking like that last guy, I think K will divorce you! I like that Maggie sleeps in your lap while you work–you should put her on the payroll.

  • Jen December 8, 2010, 9:50 am

Love that comment. And it is true. SO true. Just yesterday I talked the grocery checkout guy’s ear off b/c I was crazing some human interaction. Psycho…

  • Kjirsten- Balanced Healthy Life December 8, 2010, 9:56 am

I would love to work from home everyday in my PJS! That must be great!

  • Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday December 8, 2010, 9:58 am

    .
    The Oatmeal is hilarious!!
    .

  • Emily December 8, 2010, 9:58 am

Hahah this is my life as a “full-time grad student.” So many days spent at home watching the hours tick by…yes there’s work to do and yes, not having to work helps…but I definitely feel sloth-like at times!! Glad I’m not alone 🙂

  • janae @ hungryrunnergirl December 8, 2010, 9:58 am

Love the cartoon…I can definitely see both sides:) Your breakfast bowls always look so good. P.S. you have the cutest dogs ever.!

    • Caitlin December 8, 2010, 2:31 pm

Maggie and James say thank you 🙂

  • Erika @ FoodFitnessFun December 8, 2010, 10:00 am

Ahhhh, that cartoon is hilarious! 😛

  • Nicole December 8, 2010, 10:01 am

Ah, that comic is too true! I’ve been working from home for the past year or so and my social skills have definitely been failing. I’m going back to school next semester and I’m worried about re-entering the social world!

  • Stacy @ Every Little Thing December 8, 2010, 10:03 am

This is my concern with working at home (though I would love to, haha). Actually going to work puts me on a much better schedule and I found I actually SLEEP much better!

Hope your meeting with Molly is about something exciting!

  • Jenn @ LiveWellFitNow December 8, 2010, 10:03 am

    I love it!!!!

Especially as I sit here in my own snowflake PJ bottoms working from home!!!!!! 🙂

    Social skills, say what???

  • Katie December 8, 2010, 10:05 am

Haha! Can totally relate. I just volunteer from home and am unemployed and my social skills suck now!

I hate the new fb design! But I always hate their changes and then you just get used to it.

  • Tracy @ The Chameleon's Backbone December 8, 2010, 10:06 am

As long as you don’t wear leggings with a short sweater out to a real-world meeting, I think you’ll be okay.

  • Sarena (The Non Dairy Queen) December 8, 2010, 10:09 am

Haha, I am currently still in my pjs too and just finished my pumpkin oats! Oh the life of working at home! We were just talking about leaving the house and talked ourselves out of it. Hopefully we will get the chance tomorrow!

  • Alison (Fueling for Fitness) December 8, 2010, 10:09 am

haha i love that comic! i actually have that up on my desk at work. 😀

  • Jodi December 8, 2010, 10:09 am

That cartoon is hysterical. I needed that chuckle while i’m sitting here in the office NOT writing the meeting agenda I’m supposed to be writing!

  • Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat December 8, 2010, 10:09 am

Hehehe I love your cartoon! Some days I really wish I worked from home, but I fear that if I did, I’d never wear anything in my closet except for my Lulu pants and t-shirts… that is, provided I choose to actually GET dressed! Have a great day! 🙂

  • Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg December 8, 2010, 10:10 am

Lol…it’s true. I love working from home with my online classes, but I also teach classes at an actual university twice a week, and I’m always SO glad to have that person-to-person interaction time.

  • Heather December 8, 2010, 10:10 am

I work from home in my PJ’s! I am right now haha!
I should be working but I am looking at blogs..

  • Melissa December 8, 2010, 10:12 am

My fiance has been working from home for the past 2 years and I ust sent him the link the full set of cartoons. HILARIOUS! And seems to be true based on what he tells me 🙂 I am always shocked when I come home to find him wearing “real” clothes (not basketball shorts/track pants and a t-shirt)!

    • Caitlin December 8, 2010, 2:32 pm

When the hus comes home and I’m wearing anything besides PJs he always tells me how nice i look LOL

  • Liz @ Blog is the New Black December 8, 2010, 10:15 am

I don’t have the ability to work from home, but sometimes I wish I did!

  • Michelle W December 8, 2010, 10:16 am

Haha, exactly how I feel about working from home. I only do so once a week and while I love working in PJs, I am normally so antsy and craving fresh air/human interaction by the end of the day!

  • Tricia December 8, 2010, 10:18 am

Woahhhh! Sooo agree with that cartoon! I’ve worked at home on and off (mostly on!) for the past 5 years. It can drive you a little crazy sometimes!

    • Tricia December 8, 2010, 10:22 am

just saw the rest of the comic strip, HILARIOUS!

  • Kate (What Kate is Cooking) December 8, 2010, 10:20 am

In some ways I would like to work from home, but something tells me I would never get out of my pajamas!

  • Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun December 8, 2010, 10:20 am

That cartoon is hilarious. I work from home but fortunately part of that work is the mom thing, so I’m always getting out with activities related to that still.

  • Nicole December 8, 2010, 10:23 am

LOL, that comic will prolly be me eventually! I have the luxury of working from home, and yes, I am still in my pjs! That doesn’t always happen, but I might as well since I plan to workout during lunch.

  • Paige (Running Around Normal) December 8, 2010, 10:26 am

baahhhaaa that comic is awesome. I have to say, I’m a bit jealous of those who work from home!

  • Kristen December 8, 2010, 10:26 am

One of my work from home rules is that I must get up, shower, and get dressed. This helps me make the transition from “I’m at home” to “I’m at work”

  • Maren December 8, 2010, 10:27 am

hahaha that cartoon rocks! I do part of my work at home, but just temporarily because our office is being added on to and I don’t have an office there right now. So when I go in, I get nothing done because everyone just chats!! So I feel more productive if I get my computer work done at home. So hello from my apartment in Omaha! 🙂

  • Rachel December 8, 2010, 10:28 am

    Hilarious!!

  • Jessica December 8, 2010, 10:28 am

I’ve found that it takes a lot of dicipline to work from home and that setting a schedule really helps me get things done. It’s also so important to take breaks and some fresh air!

  • Aneta December 8, 2010, 10:32 am

    love the cartoon!

  • Sarah @ See Sarah Graduate December 8, 2010, 10:33 am

I was early to rise… but then after an hour decided that I deserved an extra hour of sleep. Gotta love exam week. 😉

  • Camille December 8, 2010, 10:35 am

I like the new FB too!
I don’t understand why everyone is complaining, I think it looks really nice.

  • Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table December 8, 2010, 10:38 am

OMG – cartoon of the year! I work from home part of the time. Completely agree on the love-hate. Sometimes the freedom to run through hte park midday is fantastic… and sometimes I feel like I’m in a hole.

  • Kelly December 8, 2010, 10:41 am

I wish I was still in my pajamas! I’m so happy I have the option to work from home now, my commute is a monster and with winter coming I’m sure I’ll need it.

  • Shelley December 8, 2010, 10:41 am

That’s hilarious. I’m so glad I’m not the only one who feels like that working from home! Every time I go out to run an errand I hope I don’t see anyone I know because I usually feel like a big mess.

  • Robyn @ Frugal 'n' Fit! December 8, 2010, 10:43 am

It is my goal in life to work from home. Social skills be damned! 😉

  • Heather @ Side of Sneakers December 8, 2010, 10:43 am

Haha I have that poster in my office. It’s so true I can’t decide whether it’s sad or funny!

  • Kristina @ spabettie December 8, 2010, 10:51 am

    I love that comic…

and YES – ! I work from home IN my pajama! AND with a dachshund on my lap! He is here right now! 😀

  • Rose December 8, 2010, 10:59 am

Love the comic as well. I get SO much more work done at home than the office because I’m surrounded by a group of chatty people. But I start feeling a little homebound after a few days and need the outside world!

  • Tania December 8, 2010, 11:03 am

hahahah!! I love that he’s peeing on the ground in the last one. Beautiful. 🙂 I always think it seems so fun and glamourous to be able to work from home…beats a cubical right? Boo the burlap walls!!

  • Kiran December 8, 2010, 11:09 am

Great crack up for all of us this morning! Bwahahaha!!!

  • gabriella @ embracement December 8, 2010, 11:13 am

After barely sleeping the past few nights, I was late to rise as well. But I feel SO much better. That cartoon cracked me up

  • Joanna@ Drizzle of Sunshine December 8, 2010, 11:14 am

I don’t work at home, but because I’m a teacher I do get summers off. There are days where I’m in PJs all day!! If I don’t have an appointment…. I don’t see the light of day! hahah and that cartoon is the perfect representation of that!

P.S Facebook… so dumb. I can spend HOURS on that thing, looking at pictures, checking everyone’s status every few minutes…sad sad! hahhah

  • Melissa @ Be Not Simply Good December 8, 2010, 11:25 am

Hahahahahaha! Oh no! I’ve been working from home for several years, and I don’t think I’m that bad! Thank goodness I do have to show up at the office about once a week to keep up my social skills, lol.

  • Lindsey December 8, 2010, 11:25 am

I saw that comic yesterday on the Oatmeal and was crying laughing! My husband came in and gave me that confused look like honey you may have lost your mind. And yes facebook stalking is addicting, sometimes I’m looking at pictures of friends of friends, creepy!

  • Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine December 8, 2010, 11:44 am

I don’t work from home, but as a student I spend so much time cooped up in my apartment that I definitely go a little stir-crazy sometimes. I kind of love it though- it’s my dream to work from home when I have kids down the road!

  • Amber K December 8, 2010, 12:10 pm

Hilarious cartoon. Ahh facebook stalking… My favorite thing to do is check out mutual friends. I’m always amazed at who I know that also knows other people. Like people from church who know people I went to high school with or distant relatives. So freaky!

  • Katherine @ Left Coast Contessa December 8, 2010, 12:15 pm

Haha! That cartoon is exactly how I feel about my three week long law school finals. Limited social interaction + staying in the house = awkward party!

  • Jess@atasteofconfidence December 8, 2010, 12:25 pm

I like the new facebook design too, it’s rare for me!

  • Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman December 8, 2010, 12:34 pm

I’m working from home today actually. I find that I’m more productive at home than in the office. My home office is my couch. Fancy? No. Comfortable? Heck yeah.

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin December 8, 2010, 12:42 pm

Haha that’s hilarious! Sometimes I feel that way when I’m cooped up inside studying for exams! 😛

  • Kelly December 8, 2010, 12:47 pm

I have worked from home for 7 years, and while I sometimes wish I had a reason to buy cute “work” clothes, I am just as happy with my co-workers being my dog and my cat. LOL Speaking of which, why-oh-why is Maggie sitting on the bar stool next to you?!?! What a lovely!

  • Sarah December 8, 2010, 12:49 pm

I love that cartoon! But isn’t facebook stalking soooo addictive. On a rational level I know, like you, that it’s a complete an utter waste of time, but it’s just so compelling. 😀

  • chelsey @ clean eating chelsey December 8, 2010, 12:50 pm

AHAHAHA That cartoon is awesome – I love it!

  • Lily's Health Pad December 8, 2010, 12:55 pm

Sometimes I feel like blogging makes me even more of a recluse. Too much computer time makes me feel like a social idiot! Plus, talking about my food is not really social norm.

  • Lauren December 8, 2010, 12:57 pm

Facebook stalking is so easy to get sucked into…but then I feel weird checking out people who I talked to maybe twice in high school.

  • Jill Will Run December 8, 2010, 1:00 pm

THANK YOU for the cartoon… so true. I’ve been telecommuting for 5 years now and I’m really starting to reconsider that because of that same general idea illustrated there.

  • Annette December 8, 2010, 1:12 pm

Some of my work is at home, and I can already feel with that cartoon.haha. I hardly believe that is you, though, Caitlin!

  • Alina @ Duty Free Foodie December 8, 2010, 1:12 pm

That cartoon is hilarious! I work from home one day a week and it’s my favorite day, but I am not sure I’d want to do it full-time. Even though I am so sick of waking up at Ass O’clock, as The Oatmeal so perfectly points out.

  • Jessica @ The Process of Healing December 8, 2010, 1:14 pm

    Haha LOVE that comic!
And i’m not quite sure how I feel about the FB change just yet. It’s growing on me.

  • Natalia@TheHealthScript December 8, 2010, 1:22 pm

I completely agree with you on Facebook stalking! I do it and then hate myself for it since 1.) it’s creepy and 2.) it’s a waste of my life!

  • Amanda December 8, 2010, 2:09 pm

That comic is AWESOME!!!! Oh the facebook vortex, I’ve been its unwitting victim so many times.

  • mm December 8, 2010, 2:40 pm

I work from home! I usually stay in my pajamas until lunch, and then change and workout. Except today – I had a lunch meeting with my boss (via Skype) so I couldn’t work out. I was still in my PJs though! I threw a fleece on over my PJ tank top so she couldn’t tell. haha 🙂

  • Wei-Wei December 8, 2010, 4:27 pm

LOL I’ve seen that one from the Oatmeal! Tooooo funny. Also: I actually like the new Facebook, too 😉

  • Ashley @ Thefitacademic December 8, 2010, 5:27 pm

hahaha, that cartoon cracked me up! Hilarious! I work from home sometimes (but most of the time I’m in the office). I like the “luxury” of getting to wear PJ’s, but sometimes there are too many distractions (e.g., doing dishes, doing laundry, general cleaning, dog being bothersome, etc.). It can be hard!

  • dynamics December 8, 2010, 5:43 pm

The biggest problem I have working at home is friends and family think I do not work and that at a minutes notice I can do anything!! Second problem is remembering to put on a bra before going out!

  • Marissa December 8, 2010, 7:22 pm

Caitlin, if ya ever need an idea for a post…I would love a post/comments on types of jobs people do from home. I’d like to get some ideas for myself because that is definitely a dream of mine–to work from home, especially when it’s time for babies!!

    • Caitlin December 8, 2010, 9:04 pm

      That’s a good idea!

  • Lee December 8, 2010, 7:44 pm

I think everyone who has a facebook page does his or her fair amount of stalking. I know I do!

I don’t think I would like to work from home. I need interaction with other people. Plus, I don’t think I would be disciplined enough to get stuff done.

  • Holly B December 8, 2010, 7:51 pm

anyone point out the irony in that last sentence of yours? 😛 Not sure if the typo was intentional or not, but it’s pretty funny

    • Caitlin December 8, 2010, 9:03 pm

hahaha i have lost all my social skills!!

  • Marika December 9, 2010, 2:56 am

Hahaha… my fiance works from home too and he LOVES that Oatmeal cartoon!

  • Lacey @ Lake Life December 9, 2010, 6:38 pm

Haha! I hope to work from home some day when my hospital finally implements the Electronic Health Record. Until then I’ll be stumbling out to my car every morning in 10 degree weather with my to-go cup of coffee 🙁

  • maria @ Chasing the Now December 9, 2010, 10:41 pm

I totally understand that. I don’t really “work” from home, but I do self-study and blog-only working a few hours part time each week. So true.

  • Nikki @ Balance and Moderation December 10, 2010, 10:41 am

Funny cartoon! Totally true! I work from home – love it! I worked from my bed in my pj’s yesterday. I have to go into the office every once in a while to stay in touch with my peaps though.
