It’s 37, but it feels like 31.  Oh, and it’s raining.

Not exactly the ideal weather for a bunch of 8 – 10 year olds to run a 5K in!  That’s OK because I know we’ll have fun regardless.

I’m layered up.

That’s three shirts, plus thermal tights.

Run like the wind, girls! 🙂

Have fun! I think it’s much harder to get motivated in cold, rainy weather, but I actually think it is some of my favorite weather to actually run in. I like staying cooler even while working hard, plus I feel so bad ass!

  • Georgie @ Georgie Goes Healthy December 4, 2010, 7:09 am

I agree that its harder to get motivated, Emily but it does end up being fun a lot of the time! Good luck to all the girls and let us know how it goes!! They must be SO excited!!

Youuu can doooo it! I admire your motivation for outside cold-weather running. Just be thankful it’s not 25 degrees like it is here!

  • Jacalyn December 4, 2010, 8:42 am

Eek! Those would be the days I am happy to live in Houston. Today we have a projected high in the mid 70’s. Have fun today and stay warm!

  • Jessica M December 4, 2010, 8:54 am

    Good luck!

I just ran my first 5k on Thanksgiving. It was SO cold and windy. I think the wind chill was something like -18 F! The wind was nuts. It was memorable for sure. My goal was to finish! And I did!

    • Caitlin December 4, 2010, 12:45 pm

Congrats on your epic first 5k!

Layering does wonders! I hope you managed to stay warm (but not too warm!) It’s always tricky finding that perfect temperature. 😀

  • Katy (The Singing Runner) December 4, 2010, 9:24 am

    Brrr! That’s cold!

Despite the cold, the 5k should be fun! Good luck to you and the girls!

  • Allie @ Healthy Balance, Healthy Life December 4, 2010, 9:36 am

Rain is no fun (at least for me) to run in but you and the girls will have a blast regardless. You’re a role model to them–they’ll just be excited to be with you!

  • Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun December 4, 2010, 9:39 am

Just think of it this way…they will feel even MORE empowered to have run their 5K in those conditions. Have fun!

  • Amy B (Second City Randomness) December 4, 2010, 9:41 am

Have fun! Although this is why I’m done with my racing season- I really am not a fan of the cold weather/layering issues.

  • Balanced Healthy Life December 4, 2010, 10:03 am

Have a great and fun time at the 5k! I hope you and all the girls do awesome and stay warm! : )

  • Alison December 4, 2010, 11:31 am

We had our Girls on the Run Reindeer Romp this morning in Northern Virgnia. It was COLD. Last year, it snowed, which I’m happy to have missed. This morning is was clear but mighty crisp. Our noses were red and our fingers were frozen, but fun was had by all.

  • Natalia - a side of simple December 4, 2010, 11:49 am

Congratulations to all the girls, just for participating! Stay warm 😉

  • Amber K December 4, 2010, 12:07 pm

That’s more motivation than I have, for sure! This is where I would probably try to bribe a gym to let us all in. Being a good role model isn’t easy! 🙂

  • Carol December 4, 2010, 12:56 pm

Hehehehe…I love it when you “South” living people complain about the cold! It’s presently -12C (or 10F) here with a windchill that makes it feel like 5F! And today is our Santa Shuffle, a 5K. Not running it myself but it’s always a go every year, regardless of the weather. I think your temps sound perfect to run in (it’s about +2C) as I overheat so much. Hope everyone had fun (which I’m sure they did) and that they’ve all got the running bug now.

Tell them “Cold Canada” is cheering them on!
