Taking the Day Off

in All Posts

I literally have not moved from the couch the entire day.

Are you being lazy today, too?  Or did you make the most of the last day of the holiday weekend?

I went to the book store. I had 50% off and a 30% off coupons. I could not resist. What cookbook to get. OMG, so many cookbooks. I looked and looked and decided on the Mark Bitman Cookbook. OMG… While I was looking another customer had the nerve to take it. I wandered around and around and finally picked up two new cookbook. Now I am reading blogs and then I have to work. Never put off work for four day and wait until the last day. I am exhausted from all my fun the days before.

    • Caitlin November 29, 2010, 11:54 am

I’ve never heard of Mark Bitman!

  • Amber November 28, 2010, 5:48 pm

I’ve been overly productive because I didn’t do anything all weekend. Lots of math homework!

  • Marie-Journey to Body Zen November 28, 2010, 5:51 pm

I got all new ornaments for my Christmas tree. They include sparkly blue, purple, and silver ones! Now, I’m browsing the internet and decorating the tree 🙂

  • Tracy November 28, 2010, 5:52 pm

I did pretty much nothing today and it was glorious! I got really into a book that I think you would love (weird, b/c you don’t know me…but still!) – The Art of Racing in the Rain. Every dog lover will love it!

    • Lili November 29, 2010, 1:43 am

I might check it out – thanks for sharing!

    • Caitlin November 29, 2010, 12:04 pm

Everyone is talking about this book – its definitely the next one I want to read.

  • Lacey @ Lake Life November 28, 2010, 5:52 pm

There’s a good reason Sunday is considered a “day of rest” 🙂

Yesterday I put up my tree and decorations and my BF and I celebrated 6 months together by grilling steaks in 20 degree weather 🙂 Today has been pretty low key and it’s nice.

  • Amanda (Eating Up) November 28, 2010, 5:52 pm

I had to travel today, but other than that, I’ve been lazy (and tired) this whole weekend!

  • chelsey @ clean eating chelsey November 28, 2010, 5:53 pm

I wish I had just sat on the couch all day – I did that last night though. I did NOTHING!! 🙂

Today I went to church, got my nails done, went out to lunch, and went grocery shopping.

  • Madeleine November 28, 2010, 5:54 pm

I LOVE that you’ve been veggin’ out. Sometimes, we just NEED days like that… Especially if it means falling asleep before 10pm- my favorite. I’m hoping to have a day like yours sometime this week but today I had scene rehearsal in the morning and am working later tonight. Ah well, the break will come… eventually. Keep on enjoyin!

  • Sarah @ See Sarah Graduate November 28, 2010, 5:54 pm

Unfortunately I had to be productive. :/ Finals week is coming up and I’ve got 5 papers due in the next 5 days! Yikes! I am proud so say however that I got in a quick 5 mile run to de-stress a bit! 🙂

  • Wei-Wei November 28, 2010, 5:57 pm

Hmmmm. I was travelling yesterday, but today I have to go to school. I just loooooooooove doing that though… except I do it at my desk, with my computer. I think I’m a computer addict.

  • Kelly November 28, 2010, 5:57 pm

I wish! That would have been my activity of choice but Brad insists on working on the new house every weekend. Lucky dog. 😉

  • Errign November 28, 2010, 5:58 pm

I slept in, went out to breakfast (cherry & cranberry stuffed french toast!) and then settled in to finish & revised a 16 page political science paper. ugh. 🙂

  • Laine @ Beets, Butter & Mountaintops November 28, 2010, 6:00 pm

I’ve been alternating hours of rest with hours of activity – walked in the woods this morning, then watched Bones reruns, cleaned, made dinner, ate dinner (fajitas!) and just did a little yoga and will go for a walk soon.

  • Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine November 28, 2010, 6:00 pm

I was very sedentary but rather productive- lots of schoolwork needed to be done! I can’t wait until Christmas break when I can REALLY veg 🙂

  • Sarena (The Non Dairy Queen) November 28, 2010, 6:03 pm

I needed a lazy day today so badly! I hope you enjoyed some time to yourself!

  • Michelle November 28, 2010, 6:04 pm

A little of A a little of B. 🙂 I went for a run and met a friend for coffee. otherwise it’s been all veg all the time!

I love the pictures of your dogs. They make me so happy!

    • Caitlin November 29, 2010, 12:04 pm

James says woof woof (thank you)

  • Laura (Starloz) November 28, 2010, 6:04 pm

    i had a lazy sunday

  • Sarah November 28, 2010, 6:08 pm

LAZY! Well, that’s a partial lie. I was out of the house at 8 a.m. to run some errands before church and then ran a workshop after the service. However – once I got home, I crawled into bed and haven’t gotten up since. I am so glad I’m not traveling today!

  • Laurie November 28, 2010, 6:09 pm

Not sure I’ve left the house other than a doctor’s appt. on Fri. since Wed. But, my daughter and I have both been sick. Lazy, sleeping, pj’s…..overall a VERY nice few days (except for the coughing, sneezing etc.)
    Glad you took a break.

  • Stacy @ Every Little Thing November 28, 2010, 6:11 pm

I was definitely lazier on Friday after we got home from minimal Black Friday shopping. Today, I grocery shopped, blogged, and am making muffins and hard-boiling eggs for the week!

  • Carly November 28, 2010, 6:11 pm

Yesterday was my lazy day. Today I have been in the kitchen all day! I made pizza dough to freeze for later this week, made lasagna for dinner, and now I plan on roasting some potatoes to have for breakfast in the morning. Yum. 🙂 Enjoy your lazy day!

  • Marie November 28, 2010, 6:12 pm

I did nothing. And it was everything I thought it could be. 🙂

  • ashley @ ashley's adventures in alaska November 28, 2010, 6:16 pm

I’m being quite lazy. Between the cold I’m fighting and a late night downtown for dinner and the Nutcracker (!!!!!) I’m taking it easy. I even had someone walk the dogs for me– ridiculously lazy. I’m hoping it pays off and this cold will be gone soon!

  • Georgie @ Georgie Goes Healthy November 28, 2010, 6:19 pm

I wish I could have been lazy – I had to go back to the city, grocery shop, and get myself situated before returning to the real world tomorrow 🙁 Hope you enjoyed yourself!!

  • joanna November 28, 2010, 6:27 pm

for me, the cold weather makes me want to cuddle up and take multiple naps and eat. I must’ve been a bear in a past life. That’s what half of today consisted of. The other half was buying our first Christmas tree 🙂

  • Kali November 28, 2010, 6:32 pm

I took the day off too! I needed a nice long nap after making the most out of the rest of the holiday weekend 🙂

  • Lauren November 28, 2010, 6:39 pm

I had a lazy day too. We stayed in bed most of the morning, then I did homework for a few hours. I tried to go for a run but could only find one of my sneakers – uh oh!

  • Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) November 28, 2010, 6:47 pm

I could use a day of nothingness!! I think I’ll plan one for this upcoming week. It sounds glorious!

Sometimes, it does the body good to just do nothing. 😀

  • Kelli (Marathon Mamma) November 28, 2010, 6:51 pm

I am being sooooo lazy today. Actually I feel like I’ve been a big lump all weekend. Tomorrow is going to be a big back to reality day. Looking forward to it. Loading up on some greens and hoping to get a decent run in.

  • anonymous November 28, 2010, 6:57 pm

I was pretty productive 😀 I put up the tree, saw HP 7 & cleaned. Soooo not looking forward to work!

  • Kristyn November 28, 2010, 7:01 pm

Ahhh lazy is the way to be =) If we didn’t have those days, life wouldn’t be worth living!! hehe. We got christmas stuff done and did our decorating. Most importantly…we made your sweet potato flax balls!!! Oh my gosh they were DELISH! My boyfriend LOVED them. So healthy and delish. Have a great rest of your Sunday!

  • Nica November 28, 2010, 7:11 pm

Totally with you on that account! Sadly I’m ready to go back to work though!

  • Jacquelynn November 28, 2010, 7:25 pm

I’m definitely hibernating today… we have gotten almost 8 inches of snow today!

  • Michele @ Healthy Cultivations November 28, 2010, 7:28 pm

Today was sort of a “start to get back to the routine” kind of day. I took off Thursday, Friday, and Saturday… and it was so needed.

Glad you’re taking a day off too!!

  • monicanelsonfitness November 28, 2010, 7:28 pm

That rules! I did the same thing and wow- I need to do this more often! 🙂

  • Jen November 28, 2010, 7:34 pm

How is it already Sunday night? Time flies. Yep, a lot of sitting. Sitting and thinking about what I should be doing…does that count as something? Oh my…a NY’s Resolution no doubt…

    • Caitlin November 29, 2010, 12:05 pm

hahaha sitting around and thinking about being productive definitely counts a little bit.

  • mindy @ just a one girl revolution. November 28, 2010, 7:34 pm

I had another Thanksgiving dinner today, so it was full of more food and family. I feel like I need another day off to recover from the long weekend!

  • Gloria November 28, 2010, 7:35 pm

Being lazy rocks. All I’ve done today is sleep, make cookies, eat cookies, and clean and decorate my house for Christmas. Don’t let that last one fool you… there was much more emphasis on cookies 😉

  • Alexa @ The Girl In Chucks November 28, 2010, 7:38 pm

    Cutie Dog pic! 😀

I ran a 5K race this morning. I had been resigned to the fact I wouldn’t PR, as I’ve been REALLY struggling with running as of late. I even had to take walking breaks. The results just came in and I missed PRing by only 9 seconds. If I just walked a little less, I would’ve surprised myself and had a new record. Boo! :\

BUT…I got to see a bunch of cute little kids dressed up in costumes (race benefited the Firefighter’s Toy Program) and a family dressed up like bubbles. Race was totally worth it just for that! 😉

    • Caitlin November 29, 2010, 12:06 pm

So close though! That sounds like a fun race.

  • Ali @ Ali on the Run November 28, 2010, 7:42 pm

I read your post from the comfort of my own couch, where I’ve been parked all day. Recovery days are crucial to surviving the holidays! Hope you’ve enjoyed it!

  • Alyssa November 28, 2010, 7:45 pm

I am normally go – go – go but my hubby convinced me yesterday to spend the entire day in our apartment and it was the BEST day! It was almost like a challenge to see what we could do and eat without leaving. Sometimes you just need a mental break from the world.

  • rebecca lustig November 28, 2010, 7:49 pm

lazy days are the best way to re-energize and help us move forward!!

  • Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) November 28, 2010, 7:50 pm

I wrote most of a paper today for a grad class, but I have been lazing around a bit too. Tonight I am watching the Grey Cup game (Canada’s Super Bowl) with the hubby on the couch – our provinces team is playing!!

    • Jen November 28, 2010, 9:53 pm

      Go Riders!

  • Kris November 28, 2010, 7:53 pm

Today was put up the tree and have the neighbors over to help decorate it, so it was cleaning, hauling out Christmas decor, putting together appetizers. Now a little time to relax. I’m just waiting for DH to go back to work so I can have the house to myself — maybe a nap tomorrow?!

  • Halley (Blunder Construction) November 28, 2010, 7:55 pm

That was me yesterday, I watched First Kid (featuring Sinbad) on Disney for most of the morning, and then I think watched 4 hours of Seinfeld. OOPS! Feels good though, doesn’t it?

  • Jacalyn November 28, 2010, 7:58 pm

Those kinds of days are absolutely necessary some times. Usually, I am super motivated the next day to get up early and get a run in. Hope you are nice and relaxed and ready to tackle a new week!

  • Lauren November 28, 2010, 7:59 pm

Amen girl!!! Live up those last moments of the Holiday! 🙂

  • Jen November 28, 2010, 8:06 pm

    I’m a grad student writing final papers… I don’t even get to sleep! 🙁

  • Andrea November 28, 2010, 8:07 pm

Although we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving here in Australia, we had a lazy weekend as well. I can’t remember the last time my partner and I just laid back and did next to nothing for an entire day. Until last weekend we were both working every weekend, or had an event or race to attend. Now we’re enjoying the quiet time before all the Christmas festivities really get underway and our guests arrive from Canada! Gotta love a day of rest! 🙂

  • Katy (The Singing Runner) November 28, 2010, 8:14 pm

I took it easy today! I did a craft project and caught up on my blog reading! 🙂

  • Laura November 28, 2010, 8:25 pm

I’ve also spent most of the day on the couch. This is why the name of my blog is, “I’d rather sit on the couch.” Ha!

  • Emilie November 28, 2010, 9:12 pm

I tried doing some yoga but it didn’t take. Mostly I’ve spent the day on the couch with my laptop or knitting needles. I so do not want to go back to work tomorrow!

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin November 28, 2010, 9:13 pm

Haha that sounds like a perfect way to spend a Sunday! I ran a few errands and did grocery shopping, but I’ve spent the past few hours relaxing too! 😀

  • Heather November 28, 2010, 9:16 pm

Football Sunday! And now heading back home to be lazy for my last night of the long weekend. 🙂

  • Mary @ Bites and Bliss November 28, 2010, 9:32 pm

I haven’t had the chance to be lazy today!! It’s been traveling, traveling, traveling. Although..I did spend 4 hours sitting in a car, does that count?

  • Michele November 28, 2010, 9:35 pm

Made it a great/busy day! Headed to the office for 2 1/2 hours; drove 2 hours to meet my parents (1 hour each way) & picked up our youngest daughter, headed home and finished a required design project, fixed a fabulous dinner, picked youngest daughter up from basketball practice – just winding the day down now by watching the Colts!

Hope you’ve enjoyed your relaxing day!!

  • Sana November 28, 2010, 9:37 pm

I hope you enjoyed your day!

  • Natalia - a side of simple November 28, 2010, 9:49 pm

I had too much work to do to get ready for school tomorrow to be lazy, but it was great to spend a few more hours with the family. The 3 hour trip turned 5 1/2 hour trip back to school due to traffic has me laying on my bed now, though!

  • Rose November 28, 2010, 10:07 pm

After several days of madness, I stayed put today and it was oh so nice.

  • Maryea @ Happy Healthy Mama November 28, 2010, 10:23 pm

Ah, lazy days can be nice. My day was lazy, but not by choice. 9 hours in the car driving home from the holiday weekend. UGH.

  • Maddie (Healthy Maddie) November 28, 2010, 10:48 pm

Lazy days are always nice. Today was busy though. I had to get everything done before the week started.

  • Viansa November 28, 2010, 11:02 pm

Not such a lazy day for me… was more of a productive day. But I’m all for lazy days!!

Seriously, your dogs are so freakin’ adorable!!

  • Ashley November 28, 2010, 11:15 pm

I’ve totally lazed about! I took the dog on a walk & went to a yoga class, but other than that I’ve barely moved! It’s been nice not having to run a bunch of errands!

  • Kiran November 28, 2010, 11:57 pm

Chilled out with hubs today, a glass of wine and making plans for Christmas. Perhaps a road trip to New York? I cant wait! Enjoy your day off, everyone deserves it 🙂

  • Lisa November 29, 2010, 12:38 am

Taking it easy is why the holiday weekend exists! I participated in the Seattle 1/2 marathon this morning but then didn’t budge from the couch (except to take a shower) until, oh, now! Enjoy the relaxation!!!

    • Caitlin November 29, 2010, 12:06 pm

      Congrats on your half marathon!

  • Christine November 29, 2010, 12:54 am

I spent the day grading papers and lesson planning. I appreciate how unapologetic your post is, though. I hate the stigma that is attached to “not doing anything,” especially for motivated women in their 20/30. We’re entitled to an occasional break, darn it!

  • Liz November 29, 2010, 9:06 am

That describes my Saturday exactly. So then Sunday I had to be productive to get errands/cleaning/cooking/exercise done.
Hope you had a great relaxing day!

  • Sarah November 29, 2010, 9:56 am

Amen to lazy days! I love ’em. Not enough of ’em, in my opinion. Hope you really enjoyed yourself and got lots of cuddles from your gorgeous fur babies.

  • Camille November 29, 2010, 10:03 am

Nice 🙂 Everyone needs a lazy day every now and then!

  • Jamie @ Food in Real Life November 29, 2010, 10:07 am

I was SO lazy yesterday. Loved it!

  • Sara November 29, 2010, 10:30 am

SO LAZY. luckily i got up to go to yoga and dinner, but man. it’s really nice to see that other people were doing the same!

  • Susan November 29, 2010, 10:34 am

I was on semi-enforced laziness. Managed to pull something in my groin on Saturday’s long run. Pain. Not fun. So Sunday was trying to move minimally, and ice it up.

  • Amber K November 29, 2010, 11:05 am

Sundays are my meal prep day, so I was in the kitchen, chopping, dicing, and cooking stuff to eat for the week! Sundays are always busy anyway because I go to the first service at church and I volunteer in the child care during the second one. So the rest of Sundays don’t really start until about 1:30!

  • Tricia @ Saving room for dessert November 29, 2010, 12:44 pm

I am so glad to be back to work (even if I don’t really love my job) just so I can sit down for a while! I cooked and cooked and did laundry and cleaned and decorated. I am worn out! I am so glad to be back to a normal schedule – for a little while! Have a great week.
