Many Occupational Hats

in All Posts

Today, I have worn my:

  • Blogger hat
  • Speaker hat
  • Volunteer hat
  • Author hat
  • Acupuncturist secretary hat

I wear a lot of occupational hats!  In fact, I am still wearing my acupuncturist secretary hat (a fedora?) as I type.  The Husband is seeing a patient so I have to be at the clinic and do paperwork.  The Husband thoroughly enjoys these days because he gets to boss me around. 😛

Oh, I am also in charge of bringing the dinner:

Breaking seriously ever budget rule (I really need to get back on the budget bandwagon and STAT), I grabbed takeaway from the nearby Big Daddy’s Burger Bar.  This amazing restaurant is literally 15 feet from my Husband’s clinic.  It’s hard to say no when you’re starving and still in the office at 7:00 PM.

A wonderful salad!

Chopped Napa cabbage, onions, corn, pecans, feta, and apples.

With a Big Daddy signature black bean burger (it tastes so great because it’s fried and stuffed with sour cream):

And yummy balsamic vinaigrette dressing.

Let’s see… in other hat wearage, I volunteered at Girls on the Run this afternoon (guess that is a sweat-wicking runner’s hat?).  It was loads of fun, as always.  I thought we were going to have a serious day of running, but it turns out today was a "taper” day.  Every few weeks, we throw in a not-too-much-running day to give the girls a mental break.

Today, we played lots of games, ran a mile (they normally run at least two), and ate cupcakes.

Life is grand!

What is your hat?

  • Chelsea @ Strawberry Sweat October 19, 2010, 8:41 pm

It’s so hard to stay on budget when you are busy, and you were certainly busy today (congrats on the book deal!!).

  • grocery goddess jen October 19, 2010, 8:52 pm

I wear a cat-mom hat, mediation hat, coaching hat, cooking hat, girlfriend hat, daughter hat, and napper hat. It’s time to put on that last one, I think.

  • holly @ couchpotatoathlete October 19, 2010, 8:53 pm

I wish my hat involved eating cupcakes!

I wore: wife hat, cook hat, cleaner hat, employee hat, runner hat, and blogger hat.

    • Caitlin October 19, 2010, 9:00 pm

      thank you hunnyyyy!

  • Amy October 19, 2010, 9:00 pm

My main hat is a social worker hat – it’s part detective’s fedora, part coach’s visor, part cheerleader’s hair ribbon, part policeman’s cap. It’s an interesting-looking contraption. 🙂

(Right now I’m wearing my baker’s hat, which is – as you might expect – a toque. Yum)

  • Jamie @ Food in Real Life October 19, 2010, 9:00 pm

I’d like my hat to be fried and stuffed with sour cream please!

    Today I wore my:

    Daughter hat

  • Anna @ Doing Good & Living Well October 19, 2010, 9:03 pm

OMG Cupcakes! I saw a special on babycakes — the vegan cupcake bakery. Now I want to noosh on some vegan cupcakes.

My hats include: Navigator (Hubs gets lost without me), Commuter (hooray daily train rides), and bookstore junky.

  • alison October 19, 2010, 9:06 pm

Hats are great because then you don’t have to fix your hair. I wear the stay at home mom hat, which requires many different hat changes each day. I’m not going to lie, it’s a great hat to wear, however, by the end of the day, I have one major case of hat hair.

    • Caitlin October 20, 2010, 6:31 am

      major lols!

  • Hope October 19, 2010, 9:06 pm

Today I have mainly been wearing my Worker Hat, and my Wife Hat. I’ve been in such a bad mood (for no reason at all!) I did not want to go near my Friend or Family Hats lol

Congrats also on the second book deal, I totally saw that on Twitter! You are awesome!

  • Camille October 19, 2010, 9:10 pm

In the most literal way, I’m not a hat kind of girl minus cold weather hats.
I am a cupcake kind of girl though and that cupcake looks awesome!

  • Heather October 19, 2010, 9:13 pm

wow you did a lot of things today!

I dont have near as many hats haha

  • Heather @ Side of Sneakers October 19, 2010, 9:14 pm

I was all about the volunteer & business hats today. I wish I could pull off the hat look better. 😉

  • Krystina (Organically Me) October 19, 2010, 9:14 pm

Congrats on the new book deal!!!! You’re awesome. 😀

  • Jen October 19, 2010, 9:15 pm

I’m finally wearing my wine drinking hat, after a long day of 9-5 employee hat, maid hat, cook hat, and cat-care hat (which unfortunately involved both scooping the cat box AND cleaning up wet-food vomit this morning…ick, not the best start to the day!) Congratulations on your 2nd book deal – you’re on a roll!

  • Rachel October 19, 2010, 9:16 pm

Congrats on the 2nd book deal! Looking forward to hearing more.

The veggie burger and cupcake hats sound delightful – lol. For me, I was in a potato hat kind of mood tonight and had lots of oven fries!

  • Teresa @ Teresa Tastes & Travels October 19, 2010, 9:19 pm

  • Cyndi @ Weightless Life October 19, 2010, 9:31 pm

The hat I wear the most is the one of student, which I like to think of as a newspaper boy cap. But I also wear the teach cap, which is probably like a cowboy hat.

  • Maureen October 19, 2010, 9:36 pm

Congrats on the book! Can’t wait to hear all about it.

Today, as always, I’ve worn a lot of hats: mom, wife, project planner at my job, graduate student & cook.

    Uh what’s NOT my hat?

  • Alayna @ Thyme Bombe October 19, 2010, 10:12 pm

WAHOO!!! Congrats on the new phase in your life.

  • Stacey October 19, 2010, 10:13 pm

  • Anna S @ History Running Girl October 19, 2010, 10:13 pm

  • Carrie H October 19, 2010, 11:20 pm

My favorite hat today was my “supportive sister” hat. My sister (also my BFF) recently joined the Peace Corps and moved to Kenya. I miss her SO much, and I haven’t been able to talk to her much. She called me this morning homesick and with some doubts (who wouldn’t have doubts?!?!??!!) and I got to tell her how beautiful, smart, strong, wonderful, amazing and capable she is. Yay for sisters!

    • Caitlin October 20, 2010, 6:33 am

Wow – your sister is pretty awesome!!! She’s going to have such a positive impact with Peace Corps.

  • Katherine @ Left Coast Contessa October 19, 2010, 11:24 pm

today I wore my “law student” hat- which I like to imagine is something funny and ridiculous. I also wore my “law student job interviewing” hat- which is a fancy hat that matches my fancy suit (which ironically, as a public interest lawyer, I will rarely wear). It was a good day!

  • Lisa October 19, 2010, 11:25 pm

I wish I could talk about my hat! It’s not really something I can discuss on my blog though. So I will say I am a fit person and a good girlfriend. 😉

  • Vicky @ eat live spin October 19, 2010, 11:27 pm

Love the side by side picture of you and the hubby! Today I wore my “dog walker” hat… I took my puppies everywhere I went today!

  • maria @ Chasing the Now October 19, 2010, 11:43 pm

I have a teacher hat, a wife hat, a cooking hat, and a blogger hat right now. I’m hoping to have a personal trainer hat in the future! 🙂

  • Diana @ frontyardfoodie October 20, 2010, 12:08 am

Sometimes it’s super bonus to be a jack of all trades! At least, so long as you enjoy it. You’re inspiring!

  • Avery October 20, 2010, 12:32 am

Ohhh the hats! Student, Employee, Roommate, Events Team Member and Apartment Maid hats are some of my most common 🙂 I much prefer the runner, foodie and friend hats though. Much more enjoyable.

  • Lorin October 20, 2010, 1:31 am

Hey, I just want to let you know that someone on Facebook is having an Operation Beautiful day tommorow at 11 nationwide. I thought you would like to know :] It’s an “event” on Facebook if you are curious.

    • Caitlin October 20, 2010, 6:35 am

Oh so fun! How do I find the event?

      • Lorin October 20, 2010, 7:59 pm

Go to Facebook.com and then search Operation Beautiful and it should come up. I just realized though, that you have to be a member of facebook in order to search for something.

  • Courtney (Pancakes & Postcards) October 20, 2010, 2:39 am

  • Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) October 20, 2010, 6:12 am

You have many, many hats! That’s awesome.

Lately I’ve been wearing one sole hat, which I’m kind of not liking. I love variety, so it’s nice having at least 2 or 3 hats to switch between. 😉

So impressed by you and your husband! You are both so accomplished at such a young age.

  • Becca October 20, 2010, 7:46 am

At the moment, it’s a sleepy hat! People think we’re crazy getting up in the night to take the puppy out, but we’re crate training and we just don’t want to get her into bad habits.

I have a pivot table training session in an hour, so will have to put my Excel buff hat on!

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin October 20, 2010, 7:56 am

Hahaha! You should totally wear that fedora at the office, for real. 🙂

I don’t have too many roles right now and therefore don’t need too many hats. I’ve got the programmer hat and the girlfriend hat. For the past month I’ve had a blogger hat. (Can’t believe it’s been a month already!) Today I’m also wearing the “conscientious employee” hat because it’s my boss’s birthday, and we’ve been planning a sneaky surprise for like a week.
