A Running Date

in All Posts

One of my goals for this week is to try to maintain a semi-decent workout schedule.  One week off won’t ruin my cardio endurance, but it will mess with my sanity – I need my sweat time!  It helps center me, gets me away from the computer, and reduces stress.

Thankfully, Jen and I had a running date.  If we didn’t, I really don’t know if I would’ve unglued my butt from my sweet see-through chair.

Our date was grand!  It was fun to catch up with Jen, who just did an Olympic triathlon yesterday.  She was sore, I was pooped, so we ran a 5K in 33:33 (exactly!) and called it a day (we had planned or 4 miles or so).

Sometimes, a friendly, no-stress run is just what a girl needs!

Pre-run snack was toast with jam:

Post-run dinner was prepared by the Husband.  He’s been putting in a lot of extra kitchen time for the family since I’ve been so busy, and I’m so grateful!

An Amy’s burrito (the rice and black bean one), some naan, a samosa, and a spinach salad.

Actually, my original dinner looked like this, and the lack of veggies really wasn’t doing it for me. :)

So I replaced the rice (well, I gave it to the Husband) with a spinach and tomato salad.  Simple swap!  A girl needs her veggies, too!

Now I’m chatting with bestie Sarah on the phone!  She just got a new poochie named Ladybird from the pound… Isn’t Lady the cutest?

Love new doggies! <3

Have a great night.

Lucy is adorable! Thanks to Sarah for rescuing!

  • Paula August 2, 2010, 8:16 pm

Oopys, sorry Lady! I meant Lady! 😉

  • Katie August 2, 2010, 8:17 pm

I think my entire family (boyfriend as well) has become increasingly aware of the need for veggies ever since I started reading food blogs! My boyfriend said he’s so aware of it now, and has changed his meat to veggie ratio.

    And Lucy is soooo cute.

  • Katie August 2, 2010, 8:18 pm

Ooops I just made the same mistake as Paula! I meant Lady.

  • Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg August 2, 2010, 8:18 pm

Yeah, I find that exercise is ESPECIALLY important in weeks that are crazy busy and stressful! It can be tough to find the time to fit it in, but it’s worth it!

  • Cynthia (It All Changes) August 2, 2010, 8:21 pm

Awww doggies with eye patches make me smile.

I totally agree that fitness keeps me sane. November and December are nuts for me work-wise and I have to get to the gym at least 3 times a week. Less than normal but so relaxing.

  • Shannon (The Daily Balance) August 2, 2010, 8:22 pm

ladybird is adorbs! so nice to see that she found a good home 😉

  • Allie (Live Laugh Eat) August 2, 2010, 8:25 pm

I need to exercise more than ever when I am stressed/busy. There is just no other way. How did I ever survive back in the day when I didn’t exercise regularly? No idea 🙂

  • dotsie August 2, 2010, 8:29 pm

Super cute new pooch! I love when people adopt animals…my heart sings 🙂

Good job on the run, too. That’s a sweet clear chair/desk/cool lamp set up!

  • eri August 2, 2010, 8:30 pm

    ladybird! so cute!!!

  • Lauren August 2, 2010, 8:37 pm

I understand exactly! Sometimes, when I am feeling the most stressed, all I need is to just release this built up anxiety with some exercise. There is really no denying it, working out really does amazing things for your body and mind.
Glad you were able to have a nice run with a great friend tonight! Sounds like it was a good night. 🙂 Now go relax friend.

  • Sarena (The Non Dairy Queen) August 2, 2010, 8:37 pm

I have a friend who has a dog like that named Mochi and he is just the best dog I have ever met! A killer tail though! I am with you on a couple of things…must have sweat time and must have veggies! Have a great night!

  • Julz @ freshman5k August 2, 2010, 8:38 pm

Good thing your run didn’t take one second longer 😉

  • Camille August 2, 2010, 8:45 pm

    Such a cute puppy!
By the way, I got Operation Beautiful in the mail today! I was so excited!

  • Lisa (bakebikeblog) August 2, 2010, 9:00 pm

awwww that pup is too cute!!!

  • Karen August 2, 2010, 9:06 pm

Bless your friend’s heart for adopting Ladybird! I volunteer at a local shelter and people always seem to ignore the pit bulls, which makes me so sad–they’re great dogs. I have two middle-aged adopted pitties myself, and they’re just wonderful!

    • Caitlin August 3, 2010, 8:40 am

I love pits too! They are awesome.

Just came across this and it made me think of your crazy dream: http://rwdaily.runnersworld.com/2010/08/can-a-zombie-run-a-marathon.html

Here’s a new motivational line: If a flesh-eating zombie can run a marathon, so can I!

  • Sana August 2, 2010, 9:12 pm

What a great running date!! Sweating makes me feel like my life is going well!!!

  • emptynutjar August 2, 2010, 9:23 pm

You are so amazing Caitlin. An inspiration.

  • Cyndi @ Weightless Life August 2, 2010, 9:25 pm

Exercise definitely goes a long way to keeping me sane. I’m going to start hunting around for someone to go on running dates with. I think it will help to break up my routine, and Lady is adorable.

  • Marie August 2, 2010, 9:26 pm

Aww Lady! What a cute pup! I love Amy’s burritos, yum. I like the idea of a running date, I wish I could meet people in my area who run! I’m too shy. Agreed on needing to sweat when busy/stressed… definitely helps keep me sane. I always feel like a better person after a run.

    • Caitlin August 3, 2010, 8:41 am

Don’t be shy! 🙂 Most bloggers/runners are friendly!

  • Rachael August 2, 2010, 10:05 pm

    Such a beautiful dog – I love the eye-patch!
I hear you on taking a week off/sanity issue – it’s been much harder to work in sweat time while I’m on the road, but since we’re touring and working for two more months, I’m committed to making it happen. God bless trial gym memberships and all-the-yoga-you-can-take-in-a-week studio deals!

  • Holly @ couchpotatoathlete August 2, 2010, 10:25 pm

Yes, a girl needs her veggies! So nice of your hubby to make dinner once in a while. I know I appreciate it when J cooks for us.

Lady has such a sweet face!

  • Renee @ Actively Ordinary August 2, 2010, 10:32 pm

I definitely like running with buddy as opposed to running alone. How do you feel about doing your next marathon solo?
    Congrats on Operation Beautiful!

    • Caitlin August 3, 2010, 8:43 am

I’m excited to run alone! I want to see what I can do solo!

  • Megan (Braise The Roof) August 2, 2010, 10:40 pm

Aw, what a cute dog- and I’m not even really a dog person! 🙂

  • Heather (Heather's Dish) August 2, 2010, 10:59 pm

pound puppies are the best! ladybird is beautiful 🙂

  • stephanie@Avocado Nation August 2, 2010, 11:02 pm

Ladybird is so cute!!! I had a pit bull in college and she was the sweetest. Love them.

  • Wei-Wei August 2, 2010, 11:16 pm

Hmm, I can’t see the photo of Ladybird? Maybe it’s just me, because everyone else seems to be able to. I wish I could get to the point where exercise became an escape rather than a chore. 🙂

Love that she got a pitbull mix! Are you goof to be going a an official book tour? When will you be able to release the dates and locations?

    • Caitlin August 3, 2010, 8:43 am

I don’t think I’m doing a tour yet… that depends on if the book is successful enough to warrant it. 🙂 Here’s to hoping!

  • Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter August 2, 2010, 11:32 pm

    Awww Lucy is gorgeous!

  • healthy ashley August 3, 2010, 12:21 am

Reading your blog makes me miss you even more! 🙁

  • Megan @ Healthy Hoggin August 3, 2010, 12:26 am

I love making running dates! It pretty much guarantees I get my booty out the door, and makes time fly by!

I think it’s great you’re keeping up with your workouts this week– it really helps manage stress! Everyone thought I was crazy for going on a run the morning of my wedding day, but it totally made my day better!

  • Run Sarah August 3, 2010, 12:34 am

I love your guys side by side desks! Right now, only I have a desk, but I think a similar table would work in the position so both my hubs and I could sit down. Where did you get it from?

    • Caitlin August 3, 2010, 8:44 am

      Ikea! It’s great.

  • Hayley August 3, 2010, 12:53 am

The girl who once struggled to include more veggies in her diet is now swapping out rice for salad. Look at you! 🙂

  • Chelsea (Chelsea's Chew and Run Fun) August 3, 2010, 1:03 am

I heart samosas, they’re easily one of my top 10 favorite foods. I hear ya’ on the need to get some sweat time in, if I don’t get some sort of high-intensity work-out in at least every other day I start to feel like a bag of pudding. Cardio just helps me in every capacity of life- mentally, emotionally, and physically.

  • kelsey@snackingsquirrel.com August 3, 2010, 1:07 am

Lady is gorogeous! look at that FACE <3 CUTENESS

Your dinner looks great, and Lady is cute! 🙂

  • Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) August 3, 2010, 7:03 am

Aww…Ladybird is adorable! Do you know what kind of dog she is? I feel like I see english bulldog and pitbull, all at the same time. What a sweetie. 😀

Glad you had such a great run! Sometimes those low-key days with another runner, is what make me love running so much. 😀

  • Kaci August 3, 2010, 8:25 am

YUM! Today’s the day!! CONGRATS FRIEND! =) XOXO

  • Crystal August 3, 2010, 8:33 am

    First- Ladybird is too cute!
It’s great that you have a running buddy- I’m looking for some!!! I’m just getting started running again- and I’m thinking about doing this 1/2 marathon in October.. The problem is I only run about 3 miles at a time.. so I’m going to have to work on that!

  • katherine August 3, 2010, 8:33 am

Running dates are the best! I’ve had more than my fair share of runs that would have been skipped if it hadn’t been for my running buddy!

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin August 3, 2010, 8:53 am

Sometimes I plan on doing a hardcore workout, but once I get doing it, I realize I’m just not feeling it and that’s okay. Even if you didn’t get to do 4 miles, 5K is still awesome! 😀

  • Anya @ Fitness & Sunshine August 3, 2010, 11:26 am

Ladybird is suuuch a cute name! 🙂
I made a schedule for this week just now and plan on STICKIN’ to it! I can do it. 🙂

  • Amber K August 3, 2010, 12:14 pm

Aww that is a cute puppy!

  • Maureen @ Notes on a Visual Life August 3, 2010, 1:02 pm
