Remember the Grilled Banana Sandwich I made a few weeks back?  It was basically two pieces of French toast with grilled banana stuffed in between.

This is even BETTER!

Presenting… the Grilled Strawberry Sandwich

IMG_7530

For the recipe, check out the Grilled Banana Sandwich – I did everything the same, but used strawberries.  I think the key to making this taste fabulous and gooey was cooking the strawberries on the griddle until they started to get a little wet and smushy.

I have died and gone to breakfast heaven.  Amen!

Upcoming Livestrong Foundation / Echelon Gran Fondo Raffles

Similar to the Garmin 305 Raffle I organized last week, I’ll be hosting two more raffles in the next week or so.  Today, I’m auctioning off sweet MBT “anti-shoes” (last night I thought these were cycling shoes in my sleepy stupor, but they aren’t).  MBTs are the anti-shoe because they have a sweet rolled sole, which allows you to walk more comfortably and naturally, thus relieving back, knee, and neck pain.  The MBTs are valued at $200+, and you can pick whatever style you want.  Come back for more information at lunch!

Sometime next week, I’ll be auctioning off a package of Oh She Glows bars and a package of Fitnessista’s macaroons.

I love raffles – I’m the kind of person that buys a lottery ticket every week – so I hope you’ll enjoy donating $5 to charity and getting the chance to win some awesome stuff.

Are you a “lucky” person?  What’s the coolest thing you ever won?  I think the Chevy Girlfriend Getaway is a pretty cool prize, and once I won $40 on a lottery ticket (immediately after crashing my car!)

I’m SO excited to see strawberries on the grocery shelves and not be SUPER expensive! I just picked up the juiciest, sweetest strawberries ever yesterday. Mmm.

That French toast looks awesome!! I actually like fruit or a fruit spread on french toast rather than maple syrup 🙂

  • Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine March 2, 2010, 9:01 am

Oh my gosh, what a great idea! I love grilled PB/nanner sammies…I call them “baninis”. Straninis don’t have the same ring, but I bet they’re just as delicious! The coolest thing I’ve ever won is a probably a Vega giveway- I’m waiting for it to be delivered this week! Have a great day 🙂

    • Emily March 2, 2010, 12:23 pm

      I kind of like Straninis!

  • Allie (Live Laugh Eat) March 2, 2010, 9:01 am

You should try a new fruit in your FT stuffing every week–pears would be my fruit of choice!!

My fam and I buy Mega Millions tix almost every week. And we have convos about what we’d do with the money that can go on for hours and hours.

    • caitlin March 2, 2010, 9:15 am

      oh man, pears sound good!

      • Julie @SavvyEats March 2, 2010, 11:11 am

Pears do sound good! Or apples. Or raspberries. Mmmm

  • Freya @ Brit Chick Runs March 2, 2010, 9:02 am

Oh my gosh – that sandwich looks AMAZING!! I’m so glad I’m about to eat lunch, cos that’s jsut made me hungry 🙂
I’m a really really unlucky person – I just don’t win stuff if it’s down to luck! I can win something if I can work hard at it though 😀 The harder you work, the luckier you get…

  • megan March 2, 2010, 9:03 am

I don’t know if I’ve ever won anything! Maybe a blog giveaway once… but that’s it. I don’t enter a lot of stuff though, so maybe that’s why 🙂

  • Emily @ The Southern Belle Blogs March 2, 2010, 9:04 am

I’m excited about the raffles! That grilled strawberry sandwich looks absolutely mouth watering!

  • Jenn @ Livewellfit March 2, 2010, 9:04 am

You know, I don’t know if I have won much of anything! A few dollars on a lotto ticket but that is it. The fiance just won some raffle where we get free vacations but we have to pay up front for them first (at a discount) so I don’t know if I can call that winning really? 🙂

    • caitlin March 2, 2010, 9:15 am

      haha i call that a scam. 😉

      • Jenn @ Livewellfit March 2, 2010, 9:17 am

I KNOW! That is what I said but the fiance swears that we are saving. The issue: these weren’t planned vacays to begin with! 🙂

  • The Hot and Fit March 2, 2010, 9:05 am

    One ‘word’ = YUM

  • Estela @ Weekly Bite March 2, 2010, 9:06 am

My husband would LOVE this sandwich!!! He puts fresh strawberries and raspberries in his peanut butter and jelly sandwiches 🙂

  • Jessica @ How Sweet March 2, 2010, 9:06 am

That is amazing! It looks absolutely delicious! I have never won anything – until I started blogging and started winning giveaway. 😉

  • Christie @ Honoring Health March 2, 2010, 9:07 am

Oh my, that grilled strawberry sandwich sounds awesome!

I wouldn’t say that I am lucky. I typically don’t win things in contests though a long time ago, I did win a trip to Montana.

  • Nicole, RD March 2, 2010, 9:09 am

I feel like I’m lucky when it comes to blog giveaways…I feel like I win a lot of them! 🙂

  • Stacey March 2, 2010, 9:10 am

Hmmm, I can’t really think of the coolest thing I’ve ever won. But that breakfast looks freaking A-MAZING…like something straight out of IHOP lol 😀 YUMMO

  • skinnyrunner March 2, 2010, 9:11 am

i havent won a darn thing! my hubby once won $700 playing poker so i quickly demanded he give me like 75% of it.

  • Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday March 2, 2010, 9:13 am

I love the looks of that sammie

  • Kelly March 2, 2010, 9:15 am

That strawberry sandwich sounds even better than the banana one. I never win anything cool. The one time I won concert tickets from a radio station they were nosebleed seats.

  • Christine March 2, 2010, 9:16 am

I won $50 on a scratch card about 20 years ago…but I still get excited every time I buy a lotto ticket.

That sandwich looks great. I might even be able to get my girls to eat it!

  • rebecca lustig March 2, 2010, 9:18 am

Is it strawberry season yet? AHHH, looks SO good!

Book coming along well?– SO excited.
    Have a wonderful day 🙂

    • caitlin March 2, 2010, 9:19 am

      book is done! 🙂

  • Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg March 2, 2010, 9:19 am

Mmmmm…what a delicious way to start the day! The raffle just keeps getting better and better!

  • Beth March 2, 2010, 9:20 am

That breakfast sandwich looks delicious! I was actually thinking about ways to do a waffle sandwich last night so I might borrow your idea!

And unfortunately I am not a lucky person in general. I won one blog giveaway once that was pretty cool – an Oikos Greek Yogurt gift that had a tote bag and 5 coupons for free yogurt – it was awesome! But, the only thing I’ve ever won 😛

  • Katie@ Two Lives, One Lifestyle March 2, 2010, 9:25 am

I don’t think I’ve ever won anything in a contest, but I’ll keep on trying!

  • Neely March 2, 2010, 9:28 am

When I was 21 I won a trip to the Super Bowl from Jack Daniels signing up for a promo contest in the bar… it was a trip for 2 and I took my Dad and he about freaked out. It was so much fun.

    • caitlin March 2, 2010, 9:35 am

      Neely!! That is awesome!

  • Whitney @ whitinspired.wordpress.com March 2, 2010, 9:28 am

I don’t think I’ve ever won anything either!

  • Morgan @ Healthy Happy Place March 2, 2010, 9:28 am

I’m totally not lucky. I never win anything!

That strawberry sandwich looks amazing! never would have thought to grill strawbs before.

  • jen trinque March 2, 2010, 9:32 am

Hmm, one time I won a free 1/2 hour massage and a night at a local hotel. Otherwise, no, I don’t win things often! Oh, I won a coupon from Kath for a free peanut butter one time, too!

  • Caitlin @ Right Foot Forward March 2, 2010, 9:40 am

When I was in high school, my dad won a mongoose mountain bike. He was really excited, until he realized the raffle was for a women’s bike! Guess who got it?! I guess I didn’t technically win it, but it was a win in my book 😉

  • Sarah @ THE FOODIE DIARIES March 2, 2010, 9:44 am

ooooooh my gaaaah FOOD PORN. i just posted pics of my barney butter, cream cheese and dark choc stuffed french toast–and now i’m the mood for dueling decadent french toast breakfasts…

  • Nutritious Foodie March 2, 2010, 9:44 am

I won $3000 on a scratch ticket that was a birthday gift..

    • caitlin March 2, 2010, 9:46 am

      best present ever!

  • Megan @ Eat.Scrap.Run March 2, 2010, 9:46 am

Two years ago I won a 50 inch flat screen tv for a $10 raffle ticket! And as a kid I won a Bubble Yum skateboard which was pretty cool at the time.

  • Nicole@ making good choices March 2, 2010, 9:46 am

Did you use fresh or frozen strawberries for that? Love that sandwich!

    • caitlin March 2, 2010, 9:49 am

Fresh – they are now in season in FL!

  • Tonyne @ Unlikely Success Story March 2, 2010, 9:47 am

Lucky? Me? No. No chance in hell. My husband LOVES to gamble and he’s not lucky either. Everytime we go, I just know we are throwing away money. Makes me cringe, but we have fun so we do it anyway and time together is worth it. 🙂

That sandwich looks amazing! I am going to try one of these grilled fruit sandwiches soon! I did my variation of a Cherry Bomb Smoothie this morning…FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC! It’s like drinking a chocolate covered cherry that leaves bits of spinach in my teeth. 🙂

  • Laura@FindingAHealthyBalance....after a 100+ Pound weight loss!!! March 2, 2010, 9:56 am

I won $100 in the lottery once, however that was small potatoes compared to the Grand Prize at the time of $300 million………but it was still cool!

  • Melissa S. March 2, 2010, 10:00 am

I only ever win things in the blog world! i have yet to win anything really exciting like your car ditty! so jealous…

and next time, put PB in that french toast w/ the strawberries…i’ve done it; so good. strawberries and pb should live and breath together!

  • Jess @ Truly.Into.Fitness March 2, 2010, 10:04 am

The coolest thing I ever one was an electronic key board worth $700.00 at my sister’s violin recital:) It was the first prize:) I was quite excited!

  • Sabrina March 2, 2010, 10:06 am

Oh the strawberries are SO good right now. We have them in from Florida.. you must be getting them fresh and local? Lucky ducky!

I once won a bicycle in a soccer team raffle. It was worth $350 and was totally cool, with a hot blue design. I bought a basket and rode it everywhere. I felt like the coolest kid in town hahahaa

  • Shannon March 2, 2010, 10:16 am

ooh, that looks DELICIOUS! I’m usually pretty lucky at random things like Chinese Auctions. And in middle school, my parents got me my own phone line for my birthday (which was THE COOLEST thing to have in those pre-cell phone days!), and to tell me the number they gave me lottery tickets for my new phone number – a “pick 3” and a “pick 4.” The pick 3 won! The numbers were out of order so it wasn’t huge, but I think I got like $100!

  • Heather March 2, 2010, 10:18 am

I usually never win anything, but believe it or not, my hubby got me some scratch off lotto tickets for my birthday last year, and I won $1000 on one! Crazy, huh?!?

  • Matt March 2, 2010, 10:23 am

    Wow that looks HEAVENLY!

  • Beth @ DiningAndDishing March 2, 2010, 10:24 am

Your sammie looks awesome!! I always do a banana-focused breakfast but strawberries would be a great way to switch things up!

  • Amber K @ sparkpeople March 2, 2010, 10:38 am

I won a giveaway on sparkpeople once. It was really awesome because I won a heart rate monitor! I already had one, but it was basically not working anymore.

    That sandwich looks absolutely fantastic!

  • Heather (Heather's Dish) March 2, 2010, 10:44 am

i LOVE raffles and giveaways, although i really never win. it’s just fun to take a chance on it though i guess!

that looks like a heavenly sandwich, something i’d make and split with the husband for dessert for sure!

  • Rachel (suburban yogini) March 2, 2010, 10:45 am

As soon as Strawberries hit the shops here in the UK (around May) I am having me that sandwich.

I won a raffle when I was a little kid. But the prize was a huge cuddly clown. I hate clowns and it made me cry :/

  • Retta @ RunRettaRun March 2, 2010, 10:50 am

I have won a tea basket with different teas and such. I always hold out hope that I’ll win big one of these days haha!!

  • Trainerpack March 2, 2010, 10:54 am

    Excellent idea!

  • Julie March 2, 2010, 11:05 am

Pretty sure I’m one of the unluckiest people! The only thing I’ve ever won is a lacrosse stick in high school (which was very cool) but that’s about it.

  • Lauren @ Eater not a runner March 2, 2010, 11:08 am

Last week I won a Kindle from the Pioneer Woman….so awesome!

  • Carolyn March 2, 2010, 11:09 am

I’m really excited about these raffles! How’d you get it worked out with Paypal or did you come up with another way?

    • caitlin March 2, 2010, 11:10 am

I convinced the Echelon Gran Fondo website to reduce their minimum donation from $25 to $5 – wahoo!

  • Nicci@NiftyEats March 2, 2010, 11:13 am

Aw, your strawberry breakfast looks so yummy. I love bananas but this is even better! I always get excited to see what you’ll be eating for breakfast

  • Amanda March 2, 2010, 11:20 am

You’re making my stomach growl, and I just ate breakfast. Your yummy breakfast is far superior to mine.

  • Ashley March 2, 2010, 11:21 am

So jealous that strawberries are already in season in Florida. But I will be a resident in 24 days! Woo!

  • Foy Update - Cook. Garden. Write. Repeat. March 2, 2010, 11:23 am

I don’t put my name in for giveaways and raffles, so no suprise, I don’t win. I do however love to shop at Thrift stores. And everyonce in a while I feel like I win. Last month I found a pair of Vera Wang shoes, new in their box, in my size for $3.89.

  • Jacquie March 2, 2010, 11:31 am

I feel like I’ve been lucky in life for the most part, but I’ve never won anything. Actually I take that back… when I was younger I used to win $5 here and there on lottery tickets, but my parents got that money.

  • Ashley March 2, 2010, 11:42 am

oooh that looks amazing. you and your stuffed french toast combos. I love it!

  • Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] March 2, 2010, 11:47 am

ooo…Glo Bars – yummm! I’ve yet to try them.

  • Ellen March 2, 2010, 11:51 am

Holy yumminess! I have never been a “find a $20 bill on the sidewalk” kind of person. EVER. One thing I feel lucky about though? My health. It’s truly a blessing to have gone this far in my life without any major health problems.

  • Lauren March 2, 2010, 11:51 am

That French toast made me so hungry! Great idea. I want to try one with spiced apples!

  • Emily Eats and Exercises March 2, 2010, 11:57 am

I have a huge aversion to gambling of any kind – it just stresses me out. I’ve never bought a lottery ticket or anything like that so obviously I’ve never won.
I’d still like to be picked for a blog giveaway though. 🙂

  • Alison March 2, 2010, 12:16 pm

WOW Caitlin this looks so delicious! Cannot wait to try it!

  • Ali @ Food, Fitness, Fashion March 2, 2010, 12:20 pm

That breakfast looks amazing! I am not usually lucky. But, the coolest thing I have ever won was a ticket to HLS!!! I won it on Tina’s blog 🙂 YAY!!! I also won a tour of Boston Beer Works and free pitchers and apps for myself and 10 friends, that was so cool!

  • Evan Thomas March 2, 2010, 12:25 pm

The best thing I ever won was a ticket into a swanky Boston dinner event. But my dad won a jeep! Still drives it, too, after 5 years

  • Lex @ sweettoothlex March 2, 2010, 12:34 pm

    oh

And that grilled strawberry sandwich.. OMG. Must. Try.

  • eatingRD March 2, 2010, 12:47 pm

That looks tasty! I think I would have to throw a bit of peanut butter or nutella in there 🙂 mmm I don’t think I’m a crazy lucky person, but I did win a year’s supply of pistachios not too long ago! lol

  • Quisha March 2, 2010, 12:57 pm

yummy! i’m definitely going to try that sammie 🙂

  • Kalli@fitandfortysomething March 2, 2010, 1:06 pm

Gosh I don’t think I have ever won anything exciting! Little things make me happy like I when I won our school raffle for an extra prep period for the week…..Hee hee I am happy about that!

  • Michelle March 2, 2010, 3:21 pm

OH lordy i can only imagine how amazing a grilled strawberry sandwich would be…it looks and sounds totally amazing!

  • Keri March 2, 2010, 3:49 pm

Yes! When I was a freshman in high school I won a radio contest that landed me a gig on the TV show Clueless (yes tv show not movie haha) for an episode. That was pretty cool for a high school freshman 🙂

  • Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) March 2, 2010, 7:20 pm

Nope, I am not very lucky. My dad though … he has a horse shoe up his a**.

  • Jes March 2, 2010, 8:02 pm

While it was technically my boyfriend, Chris, who won the prize, I still consider myself a winner… this past summer he won a trip to LONDON to see the Epsom Derby. It was FABULOUS! I even saw the Queen in her car when they drove by at the Derby. It was my first time in Europe, and I cannot wait to go back! (There are tons of pictures on my blog, if you’re interested.) Oh, and they paid for all the dress attire, so I won a Betsy Johnson dress as well! Woo-hoo!

  • Sarah March 2, 2010, 8:07 pm

    Mmm that sandwich looks incredible!

  • Kristilyn (My 29th Year) March 3, 2010, 10:52 am

That sandwich looks so good! I might have to make a spin of that on the weekend. 🙂

I have always been so unlucky – I never win anything! I remember a friend of mine was so broke – she had no money for diapers for her kid even – and she spent, like, $2 on a scratch ticket that day and won $1000. I wish that could happen to me!
