Workout Playlist

in All Posts

Have I mentioned that I’ve been jamming to the best workout playlist lately?

Untitled

All really good tunes to pound the pavement to!  🙂

Unfortunately, my plans for a bike ride was thwarted.  I got sucked into the work vortex, and when I came to, it was pouring!  I don’t mind running in the rain, but the thought of cycling in the rain is just too much.  It seems really unsafe.

I ended up dong 4.0 miles in the pouring rain.  It was quite fun!  I love to splash in the puddles and get soaking wet.

IMG_6907

  • Distance: 4.0 miles
  • Duration 40:03
  • Mile 1: 10:09
  • Mile 2: 10:09
  • Mile 3: 10:12
  • Mile 4: 9:35

My hair ended up getting all wet and knotty.  It was terrible to comb it out! Normally, I wrap it up in a bun, but I forgot an extra hair fubby.

(That photograph behind the door is a flamingo, in case you’re wondering! It looks like a naked butt from this angle.)

Before my run, I had toast with Barney Butter and raspberry jam:

And afterwards, I had a breakfast pita:

IMG_6920

Stuffed in a whole wheat pita was two Morningstar vegetarian sausages, two eggs, and potatoes.  I added ketchup after the picture was taken.  :)  It was a little dry and needed “something something.”

Plus, carrots:

IMG_6922

I personally feel that baby carrots are a scam (they are just regular carrots shaped to be baby sized!), but the Husband likes them and bought them the last time he did the shopping.  :)  I’ll eat them.

Off to get my haircut… Stay tuned – I might do something DRASTIC!

What tunes are you jamming to lately?

Love the playlist!! Lady Gaga is amazing. Seriously. I could run to her entire CD.
The pita sounds so good! I have never tried their sausage before.
I actually think baby carrots are sweeter but it could just be in my head.

  • Jenn @ Livewellfit February 12, 2010, 3:01 pm

Fab playlist. Secretly love Britney 🙂 Love Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas, Limp Bizkit and a little Darude for techno style. 🙂

  • Heather (Heather's Dish) February 12, 2010, 3:03 pm

anything lady gaga or owl city…i LOVE it! i hope you do something amazing and drastic with your hair…can’t wait to see 🙂

  • Freya @ foodfitnessandfreya.wordpress.com February 12, 2010, 3:06 pm

Oooh I’m liking your playlist – Lady Gaga is all over mine at the moment 🙂 and lots of Britney, Rihanna and Cheryl Cole (but only Three Words :p) – have you guys heard of her in the US?
I always find running in the rain so much more satisfying, like I deserve a medal or something after getting soaked!
And major LOLz at the flamingo/butt thing haha!

  • Chloe (Naturally Frugal) February 12, 2010, 3:10 pm

I am LOVING all the sounds from Glee. Most of them are upbeat and really fun, plus they all have amazing voices.

Good call on not biking in the rain – way too slippery and unsafe!

  • Catherine February 12, 2010, 3:11 pm

Hahah it totally des look like a naked butt!! Yay for rain running, unless it’s cold rain, it’s one of my fav times to run because you can splash around and nobody else is on the road (or park in my case). Ooooh haircut huh? I need to get one of those soon as well, can’t wait to see it – please post pics!

  • Jessica @ How Sweet February 12, 2010, 3:11 pm

LOVE the Ke$ha CD! So good for cardio!

  • Julie February 12, 2010, 3:12 pm

So happy I could die by lady gaga, love drug (or your love is my drug? or something else?) by ke$ha, and she’s country by Jason Alden 🙂

  • Christie @ Honoring Health February 12, 2010, 3:13 pm

Can’t wait to see what you do with your hair!!

  • Laura@FindingAHealthyBalance....after a 100+ Pound weight loss!!! February 12, 2010, 3:13 pm

The SAME ones I have for almost “6” months now as my computer that had my iTunes on it died and I have downloaded it on the laptop I am borrowing from my Mom as I am supposed to give it back to her at some point.

I need a new list BADLY……..I actually know what songs will be coming after the next now on my iPod and that is out of 200 of them! =O

I might have to DL it on my work computer! SHHHHHHHH

Can’t wait to see your new digs! My hubby cut my hair two weeks ago, just a blunt cut but he took off 2+ inches and I love it. Think I will be getting it layered by him in the near future though.

  • Julie February 12, 2010, 3:13 pm

Oh! by the by, I love going drastic with hair! I can’t wait to see what you do!

  • Sarah @ The Foodie Diaries February 12, 2010, 3:13 pm

Ke$ha has been SO clutch. I mostly like her for her dollar sign 😉

    • Caitlin February 12, 2010, 4:35 pm

me too! i wish i had a s in my name. you could be $arah!

  • Lily @ Lily's Health Pad February 12, 2010, 3:14 pm

I just posted my favorite workout songs last night! http://www.lilyshealthpad.com/2010/02/11/lhps-rockin-work-out-playlist/
Some of my choices aren’t for everyone. They’re a bit on the hard rock side.

  • ari February 12, 2010, 3:14 pm

a hair fubby!?!?!? that’s the cutest name i’ve ever heard for them.

  • Allison February 12, 2010, 3:20 pm

lol….hair fubby. Never heard it called that before : )

  • Shannon (The Daily Balance) February 12, 2010, 3:20 pm

epic breakfast sammie! – those potatoes? srcum!!!

  • Jess @ Truly Into Fitness February 12, 2010, 3:21 pm

OOOoOoO Are you getting the strong bangs? They would look SUPER cute on you!
Love all your tracks, I have very similar ones. I add Pendulum to my mix too. Especially “Hold your Colour” LOVE it!

  • Stacey February 12, 2010, 3:23 pm

Whoa! This post has good timing. I’m running a 5k tomorrow and was JUST thinking “I really need to make a new playlist… I’ve been listening to the same thing over and over…” Then I came online to find this! Neeeed to download Ke$ha.

  • Erin (Travel, Eat, Repeat) February 12, 2010, 3:24 pm

I just put out a plea for new workout tunes haha! Lately I’ve been jamming to “My Life Would Suck Without You” and the Black Eyed Peas.

  • Karla February 12, 2010, 3:24 pm

Beyonce gets me going all the time!!

  • Estela @ Weekly Bite February 12, 2010, 3:25 pm

I need to update my playlist! Maybe I’ll do that this weekend!

  • Jerilynne February 12, 2010, 3:26 pm

I hate to admit it.. but you did too, so I will say that I love ‘Blah Blah Blah’ by Ke$ha. As in, can’t stop listening to it-love it!

Also good — the new Jason Derulo song, In My Head and the new Timbaland/JT song, Carry Out!

    • Caitlin February 12, 2010, 4:36 pm

it is SO good. i feel so bad for liking ke$ha but her tunes are great.

  • Anne P February 12, 2010, 3:35 pm

LOL! That TOTALLY does look like a naked butt. It probably should be.

  • Kelly February 12, 2010, 3:35 pm

I swear I run to the weirdest music. Right now on my running playlist there’s Kings of Leon, stuff from Glee, Taylor Swift, Adam Lambert, Kris ALlen… haha so random!

  • Kendel February 12, 2010, 3:36 pm

Thanks for sharing your music list… I was just thinking about downloading some new tunes for a bit of variety.

  • Graze With Me February 12, 2010, 3:38 pm

Haha “fubby”. 🙂 Never heard that term before. I like it.

I have a lot of those same songs on my playlist too.

    I see the butt…

  • Ali @ Food, Fitness, Fashion February 12, 2010, 3:39 pm

I an glad someone likes running in the rain! Not my favorite thing, mostly because rain is cold rain here. Love the playlist!

I am excited to see your haircut!

  • Emily Eats and Exercises February 12, 2010, 3:39 pm

Thanks for the playlist – I’m in desperate need of new music to run to. This morning I was bored of my current music so I put my ipod on shuffle, but the music was way way too mellow to run to.
You’re going to be great with the clips by the way, but if not I was going to suggest trying them out on stationary spin bikes at the gym. I think you don’t have a membership right now but if you went for even one day (and pretended to take a test-day) you could just clip in and out for an hour. 🙂

  • Shannon February 12, 2010, 3:44 pm

Ooh ooh, is your haircut inspired by one of the wigs? haha

  • Stina @ Girl Can February 12, 2010, 3:48 pm

Baby carrots are a total scam, but I still buy them. I’d never eat carrots if I had to peel them and cut them up before eating.

    🙂

  • Katie@ Two Lives, One Lifestyle February 12, 2010, 3:50 pm

I actually have a ton of the same songs…along with some techno. I love the quick beats!

  • Bubblej February 12, 2010, 3:55 pm

Hair fubby? Thats so cute! I call them dinkies because that is what I called them when I was little. So much easier then saying hair tie!

  • Kt F @ ThroughTheFinish February 12, 2010, 4:01 pm

Haha that is a cute term for a hair tie… I call them pony holders lol, it’s just what I’ve always known! I need to download some Ke$ha! I’m so behind. Some of my music I’ve been running to for over a year, and I’m SICK of it. Never good! I also love the new Motion City Soundtrack CD…there are some good songs to run to on it!

  • Grace February 12, 2010, 4:05 pm

At home I’ve had Wilco and Band of Horses in heavy rotation. My workout playlist has lots of MGMT.

  • S February 12, 2010, 4:09 pm

Love your playlist, I will probably just add some tracks by Pink to the mix and I have a new playlist to jam to!

  • Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg February 12, 2010, 4:20 pm

Love the playlist!!! And LOVE drastic haircuts! Although I just got my hair chopped off and totally regret it. It’ll grow 🙂

  • Megan @ Healthy Hoggin February 12, 2010, 4:22 pm

Love the playlist! I’ve been listening to Lady Gaga and Jay-Z a lot lately…

Can’t wait to hear about the haircut! I’m thinking of seriously chopping off my hair, but I’m going to give it a little more thought before I do anything drastic! It took me a LONG time to grow it out, so it’s scary!! :/

  • Lindsay Perrone (goodiesgalore) February 12, 2010, 4:38 pm

    You’re a nut!

  • Carrie @ I See Monsters February 12, 2010, 4:49 pm

I just made myself an 80’s hair band power ballad mix. It is INCREDIBLE. Bon Jovi, Poison, Motley Crue, Skid Row, Warrant…awesome sauce.

I actually think regular carrots you have to peel yourself taste better than the babys. The best carrots ever are the ones with the tops still on from the farmer’s market. Yum.

  • Melissa P February 12, 2010, 4:55 pm

I had to laugh a little about your clipping in and out practice. Beware- I have fallen over before while waiting at a light with one foot still clipped in. I guess that I forgot that that foot was clipped in and shifted my weight. Wham, right over I went. That was even more embarassing then just plan falling on my bike while riding. Guess I could use some work on my balance…

  • Stephanie February 12, 2010, 4:56 pm

Hehe…fubby! Cute! I just call it a hair “thing” or rubber band! 🙂

  • Brittney February 12, 2010, 5:11 pm

There have been a few times where I’ve repeated Telephone 5 or 6 times while running. Love it! I keep meaning to look into more of Ke$ha’s music.

  • Melissa S. February 12, 2010, 5:16 pm

omg, your playlist is almost exactly the same as mine! 😀

  • Allison K February 12, 2010, 5:24 pm

also love “hair fubby” I normally just call it a “hair thing” or “hair tie” although in college my friends and I called them “ponies” as in “do you have a pony?” It sounds funny when I write it!

Can’t wait to see the hair cut.

I actually only listen to music on my run when i’m on the treadmill. Since I run in the dark, I figure that is already unsafe enough…so I should probably be able to hear!

  • Ryane February 12, 2010, 5:24 pm

Ew, my hair gets matted like that sometimes too. My hair is crazy thick though and won’t stay in a bun and I hate when it “thwacks” my back if I put it in a braid.
Lady Gaga runs my workouts pretty much. But I’m loving the new JT/Timbaland “Carry Out” song and Videophone by Beyonce & of course Gaga.

  • Jenny Eastwood@ JennyLikesToRun, Teenager with a healthy twist on life :) February 12, 2010, 5:29 pm

    The Glee soundtrack!!! 😀

  • Matt February 12, 2010, 5:29 pm

Lol I actually listen to similar music as you 😉

  • Mel @ She Runs Brooklyn February 12, 2010, 5:29 pm

I just wanna say… “fubby”? hahahaha

  • Erin February 12, 2010, 5:30 pm

Oooh, thanks for reminding me to download “Uprising”. Love that song. Although every time it starts I think we’re going to hear Blondie belt out “Call Me” 🙂

I agree with other commenters that baby carrots taste different than regular carrots.

Just remember to keep your hair short enough to go back in a pony tail!

  • Teacherwoman February 12, 2010, 5:34 pm

Looks like a great playlist! Nice job on the run in the rain!

  • Sam (Merit to the Carrot) February 12, 2010, 5:35 pm

Love the Gaga lovin’! Can’t wait to see the new hair 🙂

  • amber February 12, 2010, 5:38 pm

Love videphone! Also united state of pop 2009 by dj earworm is a must when I am working out.

  • tiffnie February 12, 2010, 5:42 pm

Wow, I can’t believe you ran in the rain! That’s hardcore. Of course, how could you not with a rockin’ playlist like that?! A lot of those songs are my favs to run to also (especially all the GaGa jams).

Can’t wait to see your new haircut!

  • Kelly February 12, 2010, 5:45 pm

    LOVE Lady Gaga..she totally rocks!!

  • Angela (The Lady Loves to Eat) February 12, 2010, 5:46 pm

I love running in the rain! I have to do it a lot because it rains about 10 months out of the year in Oregon lol.
Lady Gaga is the best work out music!

  • John February 12, 2010, 5:49 pm

I’m usually listening to music but this week I’ve been listening to Jillian Michaels on podcast. Been learning while walking!

Nice run in the rain. I did that once at 5am and a car went by with a guy yelling at me “are you effin crazy?” Loads of fun in the rain!

  • Danica February 12, 2010, 6:01 pm

Thanks for the workout list ideas – I’ve totally been thinking I need something new lately 😀

I LOVE running in the rain – it makes me forget I am well running 😀

    Have a great weekend!

    Danica

  • Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] February 12, 2010, 6:01 pm

My long thick hair get nasty in the rain too. Can’t wait to see your haircut!

    – Hillary [don’t miss my giveaway!]

  • caronae February 12, 2010, 6:02 pm

I love running in the rain too! I have never heard the term “hair fubby” used before! Cool! I always just say hair tie…
Baby carrots don’t taste as good as regular carrots to me. I get big fresh carrots from the farmer’s market every week, and if I can’t get those I get organic bunches of big ones at WF. I could never go back to the babies now!

  • Lee February 12, 2010, 6:08 pm

    Fubby is a cool word!

Lately, I have been jamming to Alicia Keys’ “Empire State of Mind” but not the version with Jay-Z that’s on the radio. The version that’s just Alicia sounds like a musical to me and I love running to musicals.

  • Amanda (Two Boos Who Eat) February 12, 2010, 6:20 pm

omg can I steal your workout playlist?!! I love all of those songs! looks like an awesome list to workout too. Especially Ke$ha. Who doesn’t want to brush their teeth with a bottle of jack?

  • Amanda February 12, 2010, 6:24 pm

I have alot of those same songs on my playlist also. Can’t wait to see your hair!

  • Dani February 12, 2010, 6:31 pm

Jason DeRulo “In my head”, yeah once you listen to that bad boy of a song, it definitely won’t leave your head. Just like “Whatcha say”.

  • chandra h February 12, 2010, 7:29 pm

I’ve been OBSESSED with owl city for about a month 😛 🙂

hope your hair turns out well! i’m sure it will!

  • Andrea (canyoustayfordinner.com) February 12, 2010, 7:38 pm

Great playlist! I’m going to download a few of those!
Can’t wait to see your hair! Take a risk!

  • Gracie @ Girl Meets Health February 12, 2010, 7:52 pm

I am OBSESSED with Blah Blah Blah by Ke$ha. SO good!!

  • Tay February 12, 2010, 8:10 pm

LOL that picture does look like a butt!! hahaha.
Also I think it’s funny you call it a “hair hubby”. I always have conversations about this with people, because I call it a “holder” but other people call it a “hair tie” or “rubberband”. Interesting how we’re all brought up calling it different things!

  • meg c. February 12, 2010, 8:13 pm

i have a ton of those same songs on my playlist! i especially love 3, and telephone.

  • Heather February 12, 2010, 8:54 pm

My hair gets like that in the rain too yuck!
haha that picture does look like a naked butt!
    love your playlist!

  • Whitney @ whitinspired.wordpress.com February 12, 2010, 10:48 pm

I’m obsessed with Ke$ha as running music. Backstabber is also a good one and Take it Off. Let’s face it. I have 3-4 of her songs on my playlist.

  • Katie Davis @ Pop Culture Cuisine February 12, 2010, 11:20 pm

I am sorry I am adding my response so late, I have been working for a florist before V-Day and we have been swamped!!!! So I get to read a day’s worth of blogs at night 🙂 Anywho all I wanted to say is that we have almost the exact same taste in music artists, I love working out to all those songs!

    • Caitlin February 13, 2010, 10:44 am

you are a brave woman to work at a florist before valentine’s day!

  • Amber K @ sparkpeople February 12, 2010, 11:23 pm

I LOVE your playlist! All of those songs really get me pumped.

  • Sarah February 13, 2010, 2:14 am

My favorite spin instructor will often play Meant to Live on a standing climb…SO good! And inspiring!

  • Jesse February 13, 2010, 11:17 am

Don’t you love running in the rain sometimes?? I feel like I work twice as hard and like its an adventure haha

I’ve been listening to Monster and Teeth by Lady Gaga a lot. They are awesome…

  • Wendy February 13, 2010, 12:27 pm

Thanks for sharing your playlist, I was just thinking this morning that I need some new songs. 🙂

My hair is short now, but before I got it chopped off (donated to Locks of Love!), I used to tie it with three bands down the ponytail (does that make sense?) so it wouldn’t fly around and get knotty. I ran my first half marathon in the rain, and I think it took half the hour-long drive home to get it untangled!

  • Meaghan February 13, 2010, 12:44 pm

Hello Caitlin, I just discovered your blog a fews days ago and I am hooked. It is truly very inspirational. I find myself waking up and going to sleep with your blog 🙂 I am a 20 year old college student that just recently created a blog myself because I have been so inspired by other bloggers. I am curious to know when you did your first half-marathon. I run about 5 miles 3 times and week now and my goal one day is to run a marathon but would like to do a half marathon first. How long did it take you to train for a half? Well keep up the great blogging.

    • Caitlin February 13, 2010, 12:46 pm

i did my first half about two years after i started to run but i couldve probably trained for one in 6 months from the beginning. it was a lot of fun!

  • Alison@finnyfinds February 13, 2010, 11:41 pm
