Seven Sandy Miles

in All Posts

Hi friends!  :)  Thanks for all the advice about triathlon clothingMeg’s suggestion to wear a sports bra and string bikini bottoms under my wetsuit (thus allowing me to put on dry bike shorts in T1 and pull my bathing suit off without flashing anyone) was GENIUS!  :)  I think that’s what I’ll do.

After work, I met up with Kelly and Megan for a lovely trail run at Moss Park.

Megan did 3.0 miles or so with us, and Kelly and I ran 7.0 in total.

We got lost again!  Thank goodness for the navigation feature on the Garmin 305!  I love having an automatic map of the path we’ve traveled – the “return to start” feature is super helpful when you’re in the middle of a forest and have no idea which way to go!

We did 7.0 miles in 1:21, which included a lot of standing, staring, and walking back and forth down the wrong paths to find our way back!  Also a LOT of slogging through the sand.  When we were actually running, Kelly and I maintained a really great pace of 9:30 to 10:30.

Before my run, I had Chobani pineapple and 1/2 cup granola:

And afterwards, I had a PB and jelly whole wheat bagel with a banana.

Edited to add:  I’m currently eating a huge bowl of cereal.  That run jacked up my appetite.

We’re going out to CELEBRATE – the Husband passed his board exam!  We’re going to go bowling, and that means a beer (or two) and curly fries! Wahoo.  🙂

The Hus says thanks for all the well-wishes on his boards (I always read them to him) – only two more to go + graduation, and then he can get his license to practice acupuncture and Oriental medicine!

Off to bowl 100’s! 🙂 🙂 🙂

    Good job Husband!

Practice in the sports bra and string bikini with the wetsuit – strange places can chafe when you change things up. 🙂

  • Lisa (bakebikeblog) February 26, 2010, 7:21 pm

    Great work on the run!
If you stay with traithlons – I strongly recommend buying a tri suit – an all in on suit that you can wear for all three legs – all yu need to change is footwear 🙂

    hey…
just a quick question for tri clothing for you– I think it was from an earlier post and haven’t read those comments on that previous post so this might have been suggested already…
From my experience with tri’s…(ANNND BONUS tri clothing is supeeeerrrrr cheap right now! sale sale sale!)
The best two options for under the wetsuit (I did read your logistics from your post on what to wear/why and why not). Are this…and here is why (from my own experience)

Bike shorts- the chamois in them is too big and will stay wet- which is terrible and will likely chafe anyway….
sooo the solution is to buy a pair of tri shorts (they are cheaper than a tri race suit— which is like a unitard). Tri shorts have a fleece chamois in them, so they are te length of bike shorts but have a moisture wicking super fast drying chamois in them solving both the problem of not having comfort on the bike, being able to run in the shorts and not have a giant bike chamois, annnd fast drying!!!!

As for sports bras…I refuse to run without a sports bra either, so I bought a rather expensive but let me just tell you that this bra holds down the girls like there is no tomorrow!!! It’s the Zoot sports tri top (apparently you just wear this said garment…I however do not..) and I have a tri top from Zoot (actually my fave race shorts are also from zoot….) the tri top I have actually has an extra sports bra in it too, so double whammy there, super fast drying- like 5 minutes onto the bike!- annnd has pockets, and a half zip on the front so you can unzip if it gets too restricting with the sports bra and the tri top.

That’s just from my experience, I did my frist tri without the race top to save money and just got the tri shorts as those were most important for me (I went with a regular yoga top…and it does NOT dry at all!!!). Immediately went out and got a top too…totally worth the money when it comes to race day!

    Hello Caitlin,
Just wondering if the bagel pictured is a “normal” sized bagel, or a mini bagel. It’s hard to tell in the photos. As I’m typing this question, I’m beginning to feel it’s a completely stupid question, but well, there it is. 🙂

    • Caitlin February 27, 2010, 11:19 am

oh its definitely a normal one!
