Rebel 101

in All Posts

I was SO excited to take a photography course tonight.  This class was all about the Canon Rebel (I have the XS), and it was really helpful.  I think the biggest lesson I took away from the class was not to be afraid to play with the setting on the camera.  ItÒ€ℒs not going to break if you change the ISO! πŸ™‚

It was taught by one of the owners of the local camera shop.  For $35, I got a 3-hour crash-course in basic photography and what all the buttons on my camera mean.

I learned a lot, and IÒ€ℒll be sure to do a full recap of the class sometime next week!

One of the neatest things about the class was the variety of people there!  There were girls younger than me, older men, middle-aged women Γ’β‚¬β€œ a great mix.  I guess everyone likes to take pretty pictures!  The course definitely made me extremely excited to play with Rebella more.  I wish I had more people to take photographs of (instead of the dogs).  The Husband is SHY!

After class let out, I dashed to the nearby Whole Foods in an attempt to raid the hot bar before it was closed down.

I ALMOST got there in time!

I did manage to put together a semi-decent meals on the trays that were still available.  I had Chickpea Marsala (spicy!) with brown rice and mixed veggies.  I ate about half of this:

I practiced good carb loading this afternoon, donÒ€ℒt worry!  I had an apple:

A Clif Bar:

Granola and almond milk:

And several more servings (probably 2) of Cheddar Popcorn.  TOTAL MINDLESS EATING.  It was delicious though.  :)  CanÒ€ℒt go wrong with cheesy popcorn.

Well, kids Γ’β‚¬β€œ IÒ€ℒm off!  Sorry for the short and sweet post.  I need to pull together my race gear and prep for my Half Marathon!  Plus, IÒ€ℒve got to be awake at 4:45 AM Γ’β‚¬β€œ ugh.

HAVE A TRULY WONDERFUL FRIDAY!

See you with a race recap!

because my long runs have gotten so long, i have started to eat extra the day before and the day of now. there is no way i can eat back 1500 EXTRA calories in one day (but i sure as hell try to)

Hunni hates having his picture taken. He always makes goofy faces. In fact most of our wedding pics are crazy because he have a weird look on his face. But Peanut and Leo love pics πŸ™‚

Caitlin, do you see my green face? It’s neon green, because I am full of camera ENVY!!! your pictures look AMAZING, and I totally understand why you NEEDED to get that…at the Foodbuzz Fest, my little point-and-shoot camera seemed so…puny compared to the big-ass DSLRs of the other bloggers!

    Oh, and good luck tomorrow!!

    • caitlin November 14, 2009, 1:06 pm

oh man i feel camera envy pains. although some P&S take really good pics!

  • Jen (Running With Cake) November 14, 2009, 1:15 am

That’s awesome that you took a photog class! I’ve been wanting to do that as well. I’m not sure if they have classes for standard point and shoot digitals – like the Canon S90.

Really glad you got something out of it Caitlin! I got my Rebel almost 2 years ago and I’m still learning lots. I think Photography is one of those things where the sky’s the limit!! Certainly is in terms of how much money you can spend! πŸ™‚

Best of luck with your races!

Happy running today!!! I’ve got one tomorrow in FLL. πŸ™‚ I love half marathons! It’s actually the raceversary of my first race. In English- last year I ran this race as my first race ever. I ran it because it was the 3 monthversary since I quit smoking. This year it will be my 15 monthversary. πŸ™‚

    • caitlin November 14, 2009, 1:09 pm

congrats on running AND quitting smoking. that is a huge accomplishment and you should definitely celebrate!

  • Karla November 14, 2009, 7:39 am

At least you have dogs to take pictures of! I was fostering a dog and for some reason she was terrified of the camera! I wanted to take pictures of her but she would freak out and start shaking whenever I pointed the camera at her. Weird, right? You pictures are looking great!

    • caitlin November 14, 2009, 1:09 pm

awww thats kind of sad! my aunt’s dog does the same thing.

  • Stacey November 14, 2009, 7:39 am

  • Jenny November 14, 2009, 11:19 am

I have been really wanting to take a photography class since I got an SLR and don’t know how to use it πŸ˜‰ how did you find out about this class that you took??

    • caitlin November 14, 2009, 1:10 pm

the local camera shop had an advertisement about it – do you have an arts college in your area? check that, too.

      • Jenny November 15, 2009, 10:18 am

well I live in new york so sometimes it feels like there are too many options..is that possible? And I just want something simple πŸ™‚ but i live next to FIT so maybe they have something – I’ll look into it!

  • Tania @ Moment Anew November 14, 2009, 11:55 am

Wow, that is so inspiring! Pace yourself. Breathe. Believe in yourself! Your race will be a success no matter what. All the best!

good luck at your run!! and have a blast too!!

  • Nicole November 14, 2009, 1:03 pm

Caitlin–I’m anxiously awaiting you race recap knowing full well you rocked it. I love your idea of negative splits and writing everything down so you don’t forget where you need to be. You rock. I still have a lot to learn about proper pacing too so I can’t wait to see how this worked out for you!!

    • caitlin November 14, 2009, 1:10 pm

oh man i really appreciate your support! this comment is now highly ironic. πŸ™‚

  • Lisa November 14, 2009, 2:59 pm
